Velma E. Carr
Funeral services for Mrs. Velma E. Carr, 79, of Anderson, IN, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in Bowmer cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Carr, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home in Indiana.

Born February 18, 1921, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Nova Clark Bowmer. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Carr; and a son, Ronnie Carr.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws, Gaile and Wilber Durant, Livingston, and Carolyn (Dukes) and Charles Korthuis, Anderson, IN; a daughter-in-law, Diana Carr, Anderson, IN; a sister, Darlene Delk, Jamestown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Douglas and Wilma Bowmer, Pendleton, IN, and Bob and Fonsie Bowmer, Livingston; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Fred Carr, Livingston, Thurman Carr, LaGrange, IN, Hilary and Burnes Carr, Dayton, OH, and Lelar Stout, Aiken, SC; six grandchildren, Darris Dukes, Michael Dukes, Melody Dukes, Tammy Hart, Julie Cook, and Robert Carr; and six great-grandchildren.

Carol Dean Choate
Funeral services for Mrs. Carol Dean Choate, 57, of Algood, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Rev. Myron Greer officiating. Burial was in Smyrna cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Choate, a care giver for children and elderly, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Born September 7, 1942, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Van Buren and Sara Ethel (Nelson) Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Choate.

She was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Roger Hood, Cookeville, and Donna Fox, Cookeville; two brothers, Jackie Brown, Clay County, and Jerry Brown, Byrdstown; two sisters, Jeanie Davis, Clay County, and Sherry Brown, Livingston; two grandsons, Michael Todd Connelly and Sladen Hood; and a granddaughter, Sydney Hood.

Pallbearers were Roger Hood, Bernie Cooke, and Gary Lynn Threet.

Albert Riddle Bilbrey
Funeral services for Mr. Albert Riddle Bilbrey 73, of Cookeville, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Rickman-Hall Funeral Home. Burial was in Shipley cemetery in Putnam County with Rickman-Hall Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Bilbrey died Sunday, Nov. 3 at his home. He worked in the sheet metal business for many years.

Born April 14, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Gaither and Elvia (Gaw) Bilbrey.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Bilbrey, Cookeville; two step-sons, Ronnie Alcorn and Glenn Alcorn, both of Cookeville; a step-daughter, Cindy Flatt, Cookeville; a sister-in-law, Jewell Bilbrey; a niece, Carolyn Bilbrey; and a nephew, Ricky Bilbrey.

Pallbearers were Roger Rittenberry, Mike Rittenberry, Jay Rittenberry, and Ronnie Alcorn.

Charlie Edward Carr
Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Edward Carr, 90, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday Nov. 9, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Duke officiating. Burial was in Ruth Chapel cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Carr died Wednesday, Nov. 6 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was a sawmill worker, a member of Holly Springs Church of Christ, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Born February 2, 1912, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Deli (Carmack) Carr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Branson) Carr; and a son, Charlie Edward Carr Jr.

Survivors include four sons, Marvin Carr, Double Springs, AL, Bobby Carr, Hilham, Jimmy Johnson, Oak Ridge, and Andy Byrd, Kingsport; seven daughters, Debbie Bilbrey and Teresa Penticuff, both of Livingston, Linda Jackson, Rickman, Charlene Case, Hendersonville, Darlene Carr, Algood, May Arrington, Huntsville, AL, and Amy Byrd, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Ann Malone, Goodlettsville, and Lela Ogletree, Livingston; 22 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Halfacre, James "Pug" Lee, Carl Smith, Dewey Ogletree, Curtis Hayes, and Randy Gaw.

Nola Marie Collins
Funeral services for Mrs. Nola Marie Collins, 82, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Memorial Baptist Church in Livingston with Rev. Bob Stoner and Rev. Lester Flatt officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Collins died Monday, Nov. 4 at Overton County Nursing Home. She was a housewife and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Born July 25, 1920, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mae Ledbetter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edd Collins.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Collins, Old Hickory, and Darrell Collins, Murfreesboro; a brother, Roy Ledbetter, Livingston; two sisters, Delma Brown and Zella Carr, both of Livingston; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Bob Montgomery, Richard Thyne, Larry Ledbetter, Chris Collins, Scott Collins, and Bryan Collins. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Qualls, William Carmack, Donald Ledbetter, Glen Carr, Keith Carr, and Danny Ledbetter.

Jimmie D. Cooper
Private memorial services for Mr. Jimmie D. Cooper, 63, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Cooper died Friday, Nov. 1 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a millwright in the auto industry.

Born December 13, 1938, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Charlie and Pauline (Garrett) Cooper.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Cooper, Almont, MI, and Danny Cooper, Madison Heights, MI; a brother, Charles Cooper, Westland, MI; three sisters, Wilma Hooten, St. Clair Shores, MI, and Margaret Nell Kupkowske and Charlotte Hoover, both of Allons; and four grandchildren. The family chose cremation.

Jim Crabtree
Funeral services for Mr. Jim Crabtree, 90, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating. Burial was in Fredonia cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Crabtree died Monday, Nov. 4 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He worked with the State of Tennessee Highway Department and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Baptist faith.

Born August 5, 1912, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Maggie Crabtree. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hester Crabtree.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Anna Mae Savage, Livingston, and Helen Coffee, Mt. Juliet; and several cousins.

Colleen (Neal) Culver
Funeral services for Mrs. Colleen (Neal) Culver, 72, of Lebanon, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Burial was in Miller cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Culver died Friday, Nov. 8 at University Medical Center. She worked for Texas Boot Company.

Born March 9, 1930, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Della (Allred) Neal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Neal and Carl Douglas Neal.

Survivors include her husband, H.C. Sevier, Lebanon; two sons, Glenn Gilpatrick, Jamestown, KY, and Bobby Gilpatrick, Albany, KY; a daughter, Anna Murphy, Lebanon; six brothers, Lois Neal and Terry Neal, both of Livingston, John Neal and Willie Neal, both of Lebanon, Billy Neal, Springfield, and William Human, Moss; three sisters, Judy Boles and Mary Ann Lawson, both of Livingston, and Betty Ware, Cookeville; five grandchildren, Steven Gilpatrick, Gary Gilpatrick, Derick Gilpatrick, Devon Gilpatrick, and Dana Davis; and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Frankie Neal, Chris Neal, Tom Neal, Jamie Neal, Michael Neal, Junior Gilpatrick, and Ricky Neal.

Waymon Junior Garrett
Masonic services for Mr. Waymon Junior Garrett, 62, of Livingston, were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Story cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Garrett died Saturday, Nov. 9 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a meter reader for Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Byrdstown and attended Christian Community Church. Other memberships include Livingston Lodge 259, Eastern Star, Al Menah Temple, York and Scottish Rite, and Shriners.

Born January 6, 1940, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Waymon and Janie (Mullins) Garrett.

Survivors include a son, Robert Garrett, Rickman; a daughter, Pam Ray, Rickman; five brothers, Gerald Garrett and James Garrett, both of Byrdstown, Lynn Garrett and Jerry Garrett, both of Livingston, and Charles Garrett, Corbin, KY; and four grandchildren, Nikki, Colby, Skylar, and Ashley.

Martha Lee (Flemming) Hooks
Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Lee (Flemming) Hooks, 96, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Dewey Masters officiating. Burial was in Crawford cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hooks died Saturday, Nov. 2 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker.

Born September 3, 1906, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Jane (Thompson) Flemming. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hooks; and two sons, Robert George Hooks and Johnnie Ben Hooks. Survivors include two sons, B.C. Hooks and Willie J. Hooks, both of Livingston; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Lee Nelson, Kenny Clark, Eugene Hooks, Johnny Hooks, Anthony Nelson, and Jimmy Jay Dickerson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Michael Hooks, Eric Hooks, and Johnny Ray Nelson.

Nora Jouett
Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Jouett, 93, of the Barnes Ridge Community in Monroe, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in Hatcher Hall cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jouett died Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a factory worker, a housewife, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Born February 4, 1909, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late T.P. and Mattie Wilborn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Jouett; and a son, Frank Jouett.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. William Ray Jouett, Little Rock, AR, and Noel T. Jouett, Monroe; a sister, Mary Sells, Ohio; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Willie Thomas Matheney
Funeral services for Mr. Willie Thomas Matheney 83, of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Nolen Cantrell officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Thomas died Saturday, Nov. 2 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer.

Born June 21, 1919, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Short) Matheney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie (Raines) Matheney; a daughter, Deborah Allred; several brothers and sisters; and a grandchild.

Survivors include five daughters, Betty Greenwood and Wanda Thompson, both of Livingston, Barbara Copeland, Hilham, Brenda Carter, Gallatin, and Linda Hassler, Crossville; five sons, Royce Matheney, Cookeville, Eugene Matheney, Clarkrange, Buddy Matheney, Livingston, Larry Matheney, Rickman, and Michael Matheney, Crawford, two sisters, Cora Thompson, Rickman, and Ethelene Haney, Cookeville; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Danny Stover, Chris Copeland, Jamie Vaughn, Ernie Maynard, Justin Holman, and Larry Abbott.

William Curtis Matheny
Funeral services for Mr. William Curtis Matheny, 70, of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, from the chapel of Brown Funeral Home in Byrdstown with Bro. Ricky Cross and Bro. Charles Gibbs officiating. Burial was in Smyrna cemetery with Brown Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Matheny died Sunday, Nov. 3 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a service station attendant.

Born August 18, 1932, in Pickett County, he was the son of the late Walter and Dolly (Taylor) Matheny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Warren Matheny and Maurice Matheny; and a sister, Mitza May Matheny.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae (Flowers) Matheny, Byrdstown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Dianna Matheny and Donnie and Becky Matheny, all of Byrdstown; a brother, Harris Matheny, Byrdstown; three grandchildren, William Matheny, Pyretta Matheny, and Jennifer Flowers and her husband Wendel; and nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were William Matheny, Wendel Flowers, John Wayne Ford, Terry Ford, Billy Winningham, and Doug Winningham. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Freeman Winningham and Jim Beaty.
