Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Swallows, 74, of Brotherton Community, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey with Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. Burial was in Whittaker cemetery with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Swallows died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a carpenter and of the Freewill Baptist Faith.
Born April 1, 1927, in Monterey, he was the son of the late Joseph Jefferson and Jenetta Estella (England) Swallows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frankie Ruth Swallows; and a brother, Ralph Swallows.
Survivors include his wife, Bunola (Conley) Swallows, Brotherton Community; a son, Tim Swallows, Cookeville; three stepchildren, Tom Wood, Jamestown, and Dan Wood and Paul Wood, both of Brotherton Community; two sisters, Lou Ella Keller, Monroe Falls, OH, and Mary Frances Foister, Louisville, KY; and two brothers, Cordell Swallows, Lenoir, NC, and Tom Swallows, Monterey.
Mary Gene Stephens
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Gene Stephens, 77, of Livingston, were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Dee Ledford and Rev. Robert Ziehmer officiating. Burial was in the Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Stephens died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church, Livingston.
Born February 14, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Lloyd and Osha Ima (Owens) Speck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Stephens; and an infant daughter, Carol Stephens.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Doris Stephens, Livingston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Dian and Raymond White, Cookeville, and Rita and Sonny Upton, Goodlettsville; a sister, Maxine Clark, Columbia; six grand children; and six great grandchildren.
Douglas Sells
Funeral services for Mr. Douglas Sells, 62, of Lavergne, TN, were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Sells died Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home. He was a retired press operator at Teledine, a Catholic, and in the Citizens Band Club in Lavergne.
Born January 4, 1939, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Billy Booze and Elma (Taylor) Sells.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Sells, Lavergne; two sons, Marty Cade, Murfreesboro, and Craig Rouse, Lebanon; three daughters, Melissa Sells, Madison, Penny Sells, Akron, OH, and Penny Rouse, Lebanon; three brothers, Billy Sells, Akron, and Johnny Sells and Kenneth Sells, both of Livingston; four sisters, Emogene Ledbetter, Livingston, Dean Holman, Rickman, Ruth Taylor, Cookeville, and Irene Reeder, Monroe; and three grandchildren, Rosie Rouse, Lebanon, Kaila Sells-Harris, Madison, and Caleb Slusser, Akron.
Carl S. Moody
Funeral services for Mr. Carl S. Moody, 69, of Muncie, IN, were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, from the chapel of Parson Mortuary with Rev. Dennis Hammons officiating. Burial was in the Tomlinson cemetery, near Muncie, with Parson Mortuary in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Moody died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at his home. He attended school in Byrdstown, served in the Army of the United States with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict, was retired from Dayton Walthers Foundry, where for 15 years he worked as a Journeyman Electrician, a member of the Blue Lodge No. 496, Byrdstown, TN, member of the Scottish Rite and Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Murpah Shrine Club of Muncie, an honorary member of the Grand Spinners Square Dance Club, and a member of the Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, Muncie.
Born September 20, 1931, in Moodyville, TN, he was the son of the late Edd and Orpha (Storie) Moody. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mavis Hooper, Bowling Green, KY.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Moody, Muncie; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Nancy Moody, Yorktown, IN; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dave Newlin; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Curry Peterson, and Pauline and Cook Parrigin, all of Bowling Green, Mildred and Jack Winningham, Byrdstown, and Faye and Bill Davis, Livingston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Marie Moody, Daleville, IN, and Eston and Melba Moody, Moline, IL; and four grandchildren, Melissa Moody, Michelle Moody, both of Yorktown, and Mackenzie Newlin and Grant Newlin, both of Muncie.
Edna Jewell Henson

Mrs. Henson died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at her home. She was a disabled beautician and a member of the Livingston Church of God, attended the Hilham Church of God.
Born May 19, 1942, in Lafollette, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Susan (Ellison) Riggs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Carroll, and Lorene Riggs; a brother, R.L. Riggs; paternal grandparents, Alvis and Sallie Riggs; and maternal grandparents, Berry and Alice Ellison.
Survivors include her husband, Verlin Henson, Livingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark Scott and Diane Henson, Livingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Marlynn and Jack Willis, Livingston; three sisters, Georgia Nelson, Kansas City, MO, and Juanita Dial and Pauline Meadows, both of Lafollette; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Alieen Riggs, Toledo, OH; a mother-in-law, Menerva Henson, Lafollette; a sister-in-law, Shirley Miller, Lafollette; brothers-in-law, Truman Meadows and Louie Miller both of Lafollette; four grandchildren, Chasity Dawn Hall, Jacob Trey Henson, Joshua Lindsay Lee, and Lakrisha Lynn Willis; one great grandchild, Brayden Jace Hall; and a grandson-in-law, Donnie Hall.

James Allen Ford
Funeral services for Mr. James Allen Ford, 49, better known as "Bugs", of Byrdstown, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, from the chapel of Crestlawn Funeral Home in Byrdstown, with Rick Cross officiating. Crestlawn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ford died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was factory worker. Born November 25, 1951, in Pickett County, he was the son of Cordie (Garrett) Ford and the late Marshall Ford. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Christeen Masiongale.
Survivors in addition to his mother, include three brothers, Ben Ford and Shirley Ford, both of Byrdstown, and Kenneth Dale Ford, Mesa, AZ; five sisters, Mae Harmon, Pall Mall, Kay Abbott, Betty Beaty, Margaret Ford, and Elizabeth Hill, all of Byrdstown; and a special friend, Shannon Goad, Allons.
Alice Dimple Beasley

Mrs. Beasley died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a shirt factory worker and a member of the Oak Dale Baptist Church.
Born March 6, 1915, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Davis and Nancy Ellen (Copeland) Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Floyd Beasley; three brothers, Orvill Brown, Carver Brown, and Homer Brown; two sisters, Beulah Jones and Lois Wright; and a grandchild, Wade Allen Davis.
Survivors include six sons, Jackie Beasley, Anderson, IN, Cecil Ray Beasley, Jerry David Beasley, Neal Beasley, and Ricky Beasley, all of Rickman, and Larry Beasley, Byrdstown; two daughters, Janice Young, Alpine, and Katherine Brown, Livingston; a brother, Ray Brown, Nashville; three sisters, Cordie Norrod, Monroe, Lucille Hibbert, Michigan, and Dean Fredrick, Florida; 18 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.
Roger Elmo Daniels
Funeral services for Mr. Roger Elmo Daniels, 65, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina, with Minister Terry McCloud officiating. Burial was in the Turkeytown cemetery in Hilham with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Daniels died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a drywall contractor.
Born January 11, 1936, in Celina, he was the son of the late Joe Bob and Inis (Adams) Daniels.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Daniels, Livingston; four sons, Danny Joe Daniels, Kevin Daniels, and Roger Elmo Daniels, all of Indianapolis, IN, and Bobby Seibers, Sparta; six daughters, Jackie Bear, Indianapolis, Glenda Bouldin, Janice Brattain, Ruth Carter, Wanda Howard, and Tammy Taylor, all of Sparta; six brothers, Bill Daniels, Indianapolis, Eddie Hubert Daniels, Milly Joe Daniels, Paul Daniels, and Wayne Daniels, all of Celina, and Willie Daniels, Livingston; four sisters, Eva Long and Betty Riddle, both of Burkesville, KY, and Bonnie Sue McLerran and Louise Raines, both of Celina; 16 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Homer Eugene Daniel
Funeral services for Mr. Homer Eugene Daniel, 63, of Livingston formerly of Monroe, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Ledbetter officiating. Burial was in the Nelson cemetery with Livingston Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Daniel died Monday, August 6, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a factory worker, member of the Free Communion Church of Christ, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Born October 15, 1937, in Overton County, he was the son of the late George and Lucy (Paul) Daniel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Daniel.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Elaine (Pigg) Daniel, Monroe; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jason Daniel, Monroe, and Jacob and Hollie Daniel, Monroe; four sisters, Bernice Freeman and Betty Shewmake, both of Monroe, Hassie Pearson, Memphis, and Cassie Jewell Dennis, Norton, OH; one granddaughter, Jodi Daniel, Monroe; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Carl Christian
Funeral services for Mr. Carl Christian, 92, of Detroit, MI, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Holly Springs cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Christian died Thursday, August 9, 2001, at his home. He left Overton County in 1936 to live in Central Florida. In 1942, he moved his family to Detroit, where he worked for the Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1971.
Born February 22, 1909, in Allons, he was the son of the late Ed and Elvie (Ogletree) Christian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marietta (Bilbrey) Christian; and siblings, Carl Christian, Rawdon Christian, Fannie Fisk, Eugune Christian, Paul Christian, Cass Christian, George Christian, Maggie Rose Christian, and Wales Christian.
Survivors include a daughter, AnnaLouise McCurdy, Destin, FL; a son, George Charles Christian, Rochester, MI; three sisters-in-law, Jessie (Gunnels) Christian, Lona (Swift) Christian, and Jolene (Sells) Christian; four grandchildren, Benjamin Carl Christian and Tiffany Christian, both of the Detroit area, William Christian McCurdy, Seattle, WA, and Melanie Louise McCurdy-DeVinney, Manhattan, New York City, NY; four nephews; and four nieces.
James C. "Jim" Byrd
Funeral services for Mr. James C. "Jim" Byrd of Livingston were conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at Bordivine Funeral Home in Etowah. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Greenhill cemetery in Etowah with Bordivine Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Byrd passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001, after an extended illness. He was a 1951 graduate of Georgia Tech with a degree in engineering. He was also a naval officer in the Korean War. His career in life insurance earned him a prestigious honor as a member of New York Life's Million Dollar Round Table. Mr. Byrd retired and moved to Tennessee in 1993 to be near his children and grandchildren. He was active in church and various civic organizations. He was born in 1929 in Macon, GA.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Landreth) Byrd; two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Katheryn Byrd and Spencer and Ruth Byrd; two daughters and one son-in-law, Penelope Wingo and Cindy and Jeff Nickol; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Eunetta Bowman

Mrs. Bowman died Thursday, August 9, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a housewife and a member of the Brotherton Freewill Baptist Church.
Born October 2, 1927, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Myrtle (Newberry) Nelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J.T. Nelson and Elmer Nelson.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Bowman, Cookeville; two sons, Gary Willard Bowman and Larry Dale Bowman, both of Cookeville; a daughter, Frances Diane Morgan, Cookeville; two sisters, Daisy Hickey, Michigan, and Beulah Bilbrey, Cookeville; four brothers, Milo Nelson, Demon Nelson, Z.L. Nelson, and Kenneth Nelson, all of Cookeville; and three grandchildren, Jeremy Merle Morgan and Casey Francis Morgan, both of Cookeville, and Olivia Tennile Byrd, Lebanon.

Wilson Tone "Tony" Tubb
Funeral services for Mr. Wilson Tone "Tony" Tubb, 48, of New Middleton, were conducted Sunday, August 19, 2001, from the chapel of New Middleton Baptist Church, with Bro. Mark Stinnett officiating. Burial was in the Smith County Memorial Gardens in Carthage, with Bass Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Tubb died Wednesday, August 15, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. He was an employee of Horizon Concrete Company of Lebanon since 1988. He was an avid musician and had played with several musicians and bands for the last 30 years in Smith and the surrounding counties. He was also a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church.
Born January 27, 1953, in Lebanon, he was the son of Frances Gregory Tubb and the late Billy Tone Tubb.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Sandy Tubb, New Middleton; a stepson, Shane Cooper, Livingston; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Mike Allen, Gordonsville; a brother, Robert Ward 'Rebel' Wilder, Colorado Springs, CO; a stepgrandson, Eric Cooper, Livingston; two nephews, Tyler Allen, Gordonsville, and Dana Wilder, Springfield, OR; a niece, Delana Fisher, Springfield, OR; a god child, Christina Phillips, Grant; and a special friend, Chris Loonsfoot, New Middleton.
