Funeral services for Mrs. Edwina Upton, 75, of Celina, were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2000, from the Celina Church of Christ with Bro. Bill Threet officiating. Burial was in the Fitzgerald cemetery with Upton Funeral Home of Celina in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs.Upton, a funeral director, died November 5, 2000, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born March 4, 1925, in Celina, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Cecil 'Teet' Smith and Mary Velma Goodpasture. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Butler Upton.
She was a member of the Celina Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jim Briggs, Celina; a brother, Carl Smith, Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Mike Briggs, Cookeville, and John Briggs, U.S. Navy, Japan; and a great granddaughter, Meggie Jane Briggs, Red Boiling Springs.
Pallbearers were Claude E. Hamilton, John Clark Donaldson, Ryan Staggs, Joe Spivey, and Rush Rich.
Fred B. Sells
Funeral services for Mr. Fred B. Sells, 76, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2000, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Marlon Winningham and Bro. Glen Goggins officiating. Burial was in the Sells cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Sells died November 1, 2000, at the Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma.
Born August 31, 1924, in Overton County, he was the son of the late R.M. and Willette (Bowers) Sells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Holman; and a brother, Leo Ray Sells.
He was a member of the Flatt Creek Church of Christ, a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the American Legion. He also lived and worked in Dayton, OH, and Xenia, OH for 16 years.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Sells, Independence Community; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny A. and Wanda Sells, Manchester; a daughter, Judy C. Hennessee, McMinnville; a brother, Jim Sells, Livingston; and three grandchildren, Joshua Sells and Jonathan Sells, both of Manchester, and Demetria Hennessee, McMinnville.
Glenda Ferrell Montgomery
Funeral services for Mrs. Glenda Ferrell Montgomery, 63, of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, November 8, 2000, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home of Cookeville with Bro. Denton Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in the Smyrna cemetery with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Montgomery, a homemaker, was born October 5, 1937, in Clay County, and was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Olyene (Tinsley) Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Martin and Harold Martin.
She was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas W. Montgomery Jr., Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Duke Denny, Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. "Butch" III and Peggie Montgomery, Cookeville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and J.R. Lewis, Barbara and Joe Norrod, Phyllis and Charles Rector, all of Cookeville, and Sandy and Ron Johnson, Livingston; four grandchildren, Lacy Arnold, Ryan Waldon, Kayla Montgomery, and Brooklyn Montgomery; a great grandchild, Calen Arnold; and several nieces and nephews.
John Hubert Little

Mr. Little, an attorney, died November 4, 2000, in Baton Rouge, LA. Born October 14, 1933, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Varney and Anna Ruth (Linder) Little. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Cam Mantle Davis.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Little, Livingston; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Curt Eilander, Rickman; three stepchildren, John and Cindy Mantle, Nashville; Jeane Scott, Baltimore, MD, and Janette Lanzon, Nashville; grandchildren, Vicki Jean Davis, Noelle Davis, Lacy Ann Robbins, Holly Jean Robbins, and other grandchildren.
Anderson Lester Cox

Dollie Blaylock

She was a member of the Hanging Limb Baptist Church and Monterey Order of Eastern Star Chapter #502.
Born January 6, 1915, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late William Guthrie and Dovie Phillips Sisco. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Gyen Brown and Shirley Oliverio; a son, Carl Robbins; a brother, Marvin Sisco; and two granddaughters, Sharon Reeves and Stacey Oliverio.
Survivors include her husband, Andy Blaylock, Monterey; a grandson, Danny Norrod, Cookeville; a granddaughter, Kristie Oliverio, Denver, CO; two great grandchildren, Lacey and Russell; and a brother, Denton Sisco, Monterey.
Esther Pauline Meadows

Mrs. Meadows, a housewife, died Friday, August 13, 1999, at Cumberland River North Hospital in Celina.
Born March 10, 1915, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late A.B. 'Bud' and Mary (Dailey) Spears. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Meadows; a daughter, Billie Craft; an infant son, Jimmy; an infant sister, Elise; a sister, Orpha Nievens; and a brother, Cecil Spears. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbi Hurst, Allons; three sisters, Estline Nievens, Celina, Martha Hawkins, Madison, and Beulah Riley, Indiana; three brothers, Lester Spears, Celina, A.B. Spears, Allons, and Dumas Spears, Cookeville; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Craft, Toby Craft, Yogi Craft, Matt Davis, Carl Davis, and Gordy Treece.
Mike Duke Westmoreland

Mr. Westmoreland, an employee of Federal Mogul Car Parts, died Friday, August 13, 1999, at Cumberland River Hospital.
Born November 18, 1973, in Livingston, he was the son of Bobby Duke Westmoreland, of Sparta, and Betty Faye Scott McLerran, of Celina.He was preceded in death by grandparents, Duke Westmoreland and Will and Dovie Scott.
Survivors in addition to his parents include a daughter, Emily Allison Westmoreland, Cookeville; a grandmother, Christine Westmoreland, Celina; a step mother, Bonnie Westmoreland, Sparta; four step brothers, Charlie Westmoreland, Hillsboro, Johnnie W. Westmoreland, Cookeville, Johnny Scott, Celina, and Terry McLerran, Kentucky; three step sisters, Janet L. Westmoreland, Tompkinsville, KY, Stephanie Westmoreland, Celina, and Tresa McLerran, Kentucky; and a special friend, Cathy Cox, Sparta.
Leonard Allen
Funeral services for Mr. Leonard Allen, 82, of Gainesboro, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2001, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. H.S. Brown officiating. Burial was in the Allen's Chapel cemetery with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Allen died Monday, January 29, 2001, at Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
He was a retired farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Born October 12, 1918, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Ossie C. and Hattie (Haney) Allen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ila (Masters) Allen; two brothers, M.J. Allen and Estel C. Allen; and a sister, Dimple Coffman.
Survivors include two brothers, Clifton "Doc" Allen and Clearence Allen, both of Hilham; two sisters, Lassie Pryor, Gainesboro, and Wiltha Coffman, Hilham; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty Sue Weilson
Funeral services for Miss Betty Sue Wilson, 61, of Monterey, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, February 7, 2001, from the Algood chapel of Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home with Rev. Miss Wilson died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She worked many years as an inspector for the former Ely and Walker Company in Monterey and Freewill Baptist Home for Children in Greenville and was a member of the Monterey First Freewill Baptist Church.
Born January 31, 1940, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Roe and Tishie V. (Adkins) Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Aubrey Wilson, and a sister, Nora Harris.
Survivors include two sisters, Lela Officer and Myma Harris, both of Monterey; two brothers, Ray Wilson, Monterey, and Aulcie Wilson, Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Claude J. Warden
Funeral services for Mr. Claude J. Warden, 75, of Cookeville, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2001, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Gainesboro with Bro. Mr. Warden died Monday, January 29, 2001, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Born June 5, 1925, in Tennessee, he was the son of the late John Eddie and Addie Mable (Thompson) Warden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Estella (Goolsby) Warden.
Survivors include two sons, Tim Warden and Roger Warden, both of Cookeville; two daughters, Linda Cash, Cookeville, and Diane Herron, Sparta; four sisters, Odell Crabtree, Livingston, Cora Gust, Illinois, Olene Brymer, Mighigan, and Robbie Loftis, Cookeville; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Bobbie Jean Robertson
Funeral services for Mrs. Bobbie Jean Robertson, 56, of Livingston, were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2001, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Little officiating. Mrs. Robertson died Wednesday, January 31, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housekeeper.
Born January 2, 1945, in Deer Lodge, she was the daughter of the late Liza Batrice Jones.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Robertson, Cookeville; two sisters, Brenda Clark, Shelbyville, and Dimple Jones, Lebanon; a nephew, Roy Clark Jr., Columbia; a niece, Rhonda Moore, Shelbyville; two great nephews; and two great nieces.
James William Murphy
Funeral services for Mr. James William Murphy, 85, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2001, at Collegeside Church of Christ in Cookeville with Bro. Kelly Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Algood cemetery with full military honors conducted by Veterans Honor Guard consisting of American Legion Post 135, VFW Post 6277, and VVA Chapter 741. Hooper and Huddleston Funeral Home of Cookeville was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Murphy died Friday, February 2, 2001, at Masters Health Care Center in Algood.
He was an Assistant Postmaster, retiring from Cookeville in 1975, and a naval officer during World War II, serving one year in the Atlantic and two years in the Pacific. He was wounded at Iwo Jima and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a charter member of Collegeside Church of Christ where he served as elder for 26 years. He was a member of Cookeville-Putnam County Library Board and American Legion Post 135 and was active in the Red Cross and local genealogy. Born April 17, 1915, in Hilham, he was the son of the late Walter and Sarah Etta (Langford) Murphy.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Swallows) Murphy, Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Robert Breeding, Morristown; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Alice Murphy, Trophy Club, TX; a sister, Mildred (Murphy) Bilbrey, Lebanon; and five grandchildren, Libby Breeding, Erin (Murphy) Hensley, Jonathan Murphy, Patrick Murphy, and Sean Murphy.
Pallbearers were Ross Compton, F.B. Toline, John Wall, Jim Hicks, Davis Watts, and Bernard Keys. Serving as honorary pallbearers were past and present elders and deacons of Collegeside Church of Christ, Dr. Don Grisham, Sam and Roy Gibbons, Jo Ed Hunter, Bill Masters, James Kuykendall, Freddy Maxwell, Robert Paul Judd, Verble Carrington, Virgil Benson, and any other former postal employees from 1933 to 1975.
