Herschell Buford Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Herschell Buford Johnson, 81, of Cookeville, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville with Bro. Ralph Jackson and Bro. Joel Hillis officiating. Burial will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Whitson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Johnson died Sunday, Jan. 27 at his home. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and a farmer. He was a member of the Tennessee Farmers Bureau, served terms as Director of Putnam County Co-op Board, and ASCS Committee. He worked for Tennessee Department of Agriculture as state livestock inspector for three years and was employed with Peoples Stockyard for 15 years. He attended Antioch Church of Christ.
Born August 21, 1920, in Cookeville, he was the son of the late Herschell Jo and Nannie Pearl (Johnson) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie May (Myers) Johnson; and two brothers, William Herman Johnson and George Thurman Johnson.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Ron and Sandy Johnson, Livingston, and William Johnson and Loyd "Buddy" Johnson, both of Cookeville; two sisters, Emogene Bullock, Cookeville, and Betty Sue Bradley, Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Kelly Johnson, Beau Johnson, and Lyndsey Johnson; two great grandchildren, Hillary Martin and Hallie Martin; and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Pallbearers were Kenny Johnson, Johnny Johnson, George Johnson, Squeaky Myers, Jack Barton III, and Russell Bradley. Serving as honorary pallbearers were J.C. Medley, Winnell Jackson, Pill Hill, Joe Gooch, Dave Johnson, Hugh Myers, and Waymon Isom.
Mildred Agnes Heard
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Agnes Heard, 75, of Rickman, were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Deason officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Heard died Friday, Jan. 25 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a garment factory worker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Cookeville for 28 years.
Born June 15, 1926, in Whitley County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Estell (Powers) Peace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Heard; a brother, James Peace; and several half brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, William Kennard Heard, Rickman; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Araina Heard, Rickman; two brothers, Namon Peace, Dayton, OH, and Charles Peace, Williamsburg, KY; two sisters, Lillian Sharp, Dayton, OH, and Virgie Mae Peace, Williamsburg; and five grandchildren.
Maudie Hancock
Funeral services for Mrs. Maudie Hancock, 92, of Monroe, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Stringer officiating. Burial was in Hancock cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Hancock died Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housewife and a member of McDonaldÕs Chapel United Methodist Church.
Born December 11, 1909, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Mary E. (Belk) Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Aaron Hancock; two sisters, Ollie McDonald and Clora Keesling; four brothers, Hubert Young, Gilbert Young, Delbert Young, and Tilbert Young; and a great grandson, Jacob Hancock.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Kathy Hancock and Billy and Betty Jo Hancock, all of Monroe; three grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Jason and Emily Hancock, Brandy Hancock, and Cindy Hancock; and two great grandchildren, Jaylan Hancock and Ashley Hancock. Pallbearers were Wayne Hancock, Gary Young, Perry Young, Doug Wright, Jimmy Allred, and Robert Imes.
Cleopatria "Pate" Copeland
Funeral services for Mrs. Cleopatria 'Pate' Copeland, 83, of Alpine, were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Barnhart and Rev. Mrs. Copeland died Monday, Jan. 21 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a general merchandise store owner along with her husband, and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Born July 14, 1918, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Baley Fred Sr. and Arminda Louvinia (Smith) Allred. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Gentry Copeland; two sisters, Lee Hargis and Sally Brown; and two brothers, Lowell "Bud" Allred and Jonathan Allred.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Wayne Copeland, Alpine; three daughters, Peggy Wood, Judy Buford, and Carol Ashburn, all of Livingston; a brother, Dr. B.F. Allred, Jamestown; three sisters, Nawausa Hargis and Jimmie Bullock, both of Livingston, and Danise Vaughn, Alpine; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark Copeland, Jeff Copeland, John Copeland, Chris Copeland, Derek Copeland, Steven Buford, Tim Buford, Greg Buford, David Ashburn, and Neil Ashburn.
Randall Shane Cooper

Mr. Cooper died Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a cable contractor and a member of Cornerstone Community Church.
Born September 9, 1975, in Overton County, he was the son of Virgil Granville Jr. of Livingston and Sandy King Cooper Tubb of Gordonsville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil Granville and Billie Ruth Cooper; a step father, Tony Tubb; a brother, Jimmy Lynn Cooper; and an uncle, Joe Cooper.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Jamie Cooper, Alpine; a son, Eric Shane Cooper, Alpine; a step- mother, Donna Cooper, Livingston; a grandmother, Lerla King, Gordonsville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Debbie Wright; a sister-in-law, Tonya Wright; and a niece, Callie Wright.

Born November 15, 1907, in Celina, she was the daughter of the late William Napier and Lovie Reecer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Scott; and a son, Burnice Scott.
She was affiliated with the Emmanuel Church of God.

Myra Sue Bull Spivey

Mrs. Spivey, a factory employee, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at her home in the Burristown Community of Jackson County.
Born March 16, 1959, in Gainesboro, she was the daughter of Nell Flynn Bull of Gainesboro and the late Arthur Bull.
She attended the Burristown Assembly of God in Jackson County.

Natalie Hope Green

Born April 7, 1957, in Newhall, CA, she was the daughter of the late Selvin and Mavis Kate (Chitwood) Spivey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Green.
She was a member of the New Hope Church of Christ.

Born November 5, 1912, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late John and Molly (West) Cobble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Pennock Ward; seven brothers, Willie Cobble, Howard Cobble, J.B. Cobble, Roy Cobble, Claude Cobble, Carver Cobble, and Ras Cobble; and six sisters, Maggie Cobble, Lizza Cobble, Dona Cobble, Dimple Cobble, Mae Cobble, and Dora Cobble.
She was affiliated with the Algood Church of God.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick Robert and Geri Ward, Sturts Draft, VA, and James Edward and Laura Ward, Algood; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Master Wilson, son of Michael and Amy Wilson of Algood, was stillborn Sunday, September 24, 2000 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Born September 10, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Clora (Vaughn) McCowan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Kirby and Noble Melton; and three brothers, Thurston McCowan, Holly McCowan, and James McCowan.
She was a member of the Algood First Freewill Baptist Church and worked as a dietician in the Putnam County School System.
Survivors include her husband, R.G. Wilson, Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Stroud, Columbus, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Jean Wilson, Crossville; a sister, Cliva Phipps, Monterey; two brothers, Homer McCowan and A.C. McCowan, both of Monterey; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Born April 18, 1925, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse H. and Ola T. (Wright) Sherfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Samuel Bohanan; a siser, Anna Holmes; and a brother, Johnny Sherfield.
Survivors include a son, Paul Samuel Bohanan Jr. of Tennessee; a brother, James L. Sherfield of Elgin, SC; two sisters, Dean Wright of Granite, OK, and Bertie Sherfield of Livingston; and several nieces and nephews.
