Funeral services for Mr. Benny (Ben) Larry Garrett, 58, of McMinnville, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001, from the chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville with Larry Neal officiating. Burial was in the Wilson Chapel cemetery with High Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Garrett died Friday, February 16, 2001, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.
He was a self-employed electronics technician.
Born January 31, 1943, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Benny Osborn Garrett and Linnie Louise Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat" Ann Garrett, McMinnville; two sons, Roger Larry Garrett, Woodbury, and Kenneth Dwight Garrett, Murfreesboro; a daughter, Andrea Bloodworth, McMinnville; two brothers, William Earl Garrett, Centertown, and Lolan Ray Garrett, Livingston; three sisters, Nina Alfred, Texas, Faye Vasquez and Shirley Branch, both of Oklahoma; an aunt, Edith Polson, Cookeville; ten grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Therman Lee Wilson
Funeral services for Mr. Therman Lee Wilson, 65, of Rickman, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2001, from Netherland Church of Christ in Rickman with Bro. Harold Reeder and Bro. Donald Bowman officiating. Burial was in the Netherland cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Wilson died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a self-employed woodcutter for home heating and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Born July 8, 1935, in Overton County, he was the son of the late George Fleming and Rebecca Jane (Ray) Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Wilson, Livingston; three daughters, Connie Wilson, Hilham, Anna Wilson, Cookeville, and Patricia Wilson, Livingston; a sister, Lou Conner, Algood; and two grandchildren, Samuel Wilson and Jessica Carter.
Judy Myrtle Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Judy Myrtle Smith, 92, of Rickman, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2001, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Monday officiating. Burial was in the Campground cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Smith died January 16, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital.
She was a retired assistant postmistress and a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Rickman.
Born September 25, 1908, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Leona (Stout) Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell Smith; a brother, Professor Marlin C. Hill; a sister, Gewell Ola Pennington; a son-in-law, Horace Dial; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy (Buford) Smith.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Barbara Smith and Frank and Wanda Smith, all of Cookeville; a daughter and son-in-law, Nell and Walter Daily, Rickman; grandchildren, Mike and Patricia Spicer, McMinnville, Jimmy and Becky Bilbrey, Rickman, and Edward and Kathy Smith, Nashville; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Billy Junior Boles
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Junior Boles, 49, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Aron Dillon officiating. Burial was in Camp Ground cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Boles died Monday, July 29 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a carpenter, a member of the Church of Christ, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
Born June 4, 1953, in Overton County, he was the son of James Boles and the late Zora B. (Martin) Boles.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Sue Boles, Livingston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kellie and Michael Hayes, Livingston, and Billie Sue and Al Wilson, Cookeville; five sisters, Emogene Smith and Rita K. Riley, both of Monroe, Imogene Robbins and Lou Veachel Vaughn, both of Livingston, and Judy Garrett, Cookeville; and three grandchildren, Dylan Hayes, Suzanna Hayes, and William Thomas Wilson.
Pallbearers were Steve Vaughn, Darrell Smith, Robbie Robbins, Anthony Robbins, Scottie Robbins, and Adam Robbins.
Albert Carlos Poston
Funeral services for Mr. Albert Carlos Poston, 77, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Greenwood and Bro. James Hunter officiating. Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Speck Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Poston died Friday, Aug. 2 at his home. He was a timber cutter, a member of Holly Springs Church of Christ, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Born January 23, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Lee and Virgie (Matthews) Poston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Poston, Hershel Poston, Jim Poston, and Haggard Poston; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Poston, Livingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Janet Poston, Alpine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Bobby Turner and JoAnn and Jim Turner, all of Livingston; a brother, Arnold Lee Poston, Chicago, IL; five sisters, Veachel Young, Rickman, Marie Qualls, Algood, Betty Stone, Nashville, Lettie Merle Phillips, Kentucky, and Ann Brady, Illinois; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Anthony Turner, Pat Norris, Michael Poston, Jason Poston, Josh Turner, and Jacob Turner. Serving as honorary pallbearer was Austin Poston.
Barbara Reed
Order of Eastern Star funeral rites for Mrs. Barbara Reed, 54, of the Mineral Springs Community near Monterey, were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey. Funeral services for Mrs. Reed were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 from Mineral Springs First Baptist Church with Rev. Talmadge Welch and Rev. Kevin Phillips officiating. Burial was in Speck cemetery in the Three Forks Community with Goff Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Reed died Thursday, Aug. 1 at her home. She was a charter member of Mineral Springs First Baptist Church, where she was pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Green Pond Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 482, where she was past Worthy Matron. She was active with the Green Pond Rainbow Girls and worked many years as a bank teller at Bank of Putnam County and First Tennessee Bank.
Born January 26, 1948, in Monterey, she was the daughter of Lucille (McCowan) Phipps of the Mineral Springs Community and the late William Edgar Phipps.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Travis Reed, Mineral Springs Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Kim Delape, Mineral Springs Community; a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Becky Reed, Sparta; a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Theresa Phipps, Monterey; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Collin, Joshua, and Matthew.
Glen A. Staggs
Funeral services for Mr. Glen A. Staggs, 70, of Allons, were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home with Bro. Carl Hubbard, Bro. Mr. Staggs died Monday, July 29 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician and plumber, affiliated with the Church of Christ, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Born February 21, 1932, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Archie D. Staggs and Vesta (Sullivan) Staggs Strode. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Valorie G. Staggs; two sisters, Louise Strode and Elise Staggs; and his mother-in-law, Bithie Conner.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva O. (Conner) Staggs, Allons; two daughters, Vivian Staggs, Livingston, and Vickie Allred, Monroe; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael A. and Etter Mae Staggs, Allons, and Mark and Edie Staggs, Livingston; his step-father, James N. Strode, Michigan; his father-in-law, Johnny Conner, Monroe; a brother, James A. Strode, Michigan; four grandsons, Daniel Staggs, Dylan Staggs, Brian Staggs, and Brandon Staggs; and six nieces. Cecil Douglas Wolfe
Funeral services for Mr. Cecil Douglas Wolfe, 73, of Dunlap, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002, from the chapel of Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home of Dunlap with Rev. Mr. Wolfe died Wednesday, July 31 at Pikeville Hospital. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as custodian of Sequatchie County High School for more than 15 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Pope) Wolfe, and a son, Michael Wolfe.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Jimmy Segers and Sheila and Curt Segers, all of Crossville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Regina Wolfe, Dunlap, and Bill and Joyce Wolfe and Gary Wolfe, all of Pikeville; a sister, Jessie Smith, Livingston; four grandchildren, Robin Wolfe, Rebecca Wolfe, Jimmy Lee Segers, and Brittany Segers; and several nieces and nephews.
Avo Scott Funeral
services for Mrs. Avo Scott, 93, of Celina, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2001, from the chapel of Upton Funeral Home in Celina with Rev. Ken Miller officiating. Burial was in the Fitzgerald cemetery in Celina with Upton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Scott died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina. She was a self-employed babysitter and a member of the Celina Church of Christ.
Born June 10, 1907, in Livingston, she was the daughter of the late James Porter Ledbetter and Mary Etta (Hammons) Ledbetter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Curtis Scott.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George C. and Lois Scott, Lexington, KY, and Jack and Eva Nell Scott, Nashville; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Ruth and John Crawford, Buhl, ID, Betty Lyons, Burley, ID, Ollie Vittorio, Hollywood, FL, Joyce and Ed Witham, Hampton, VA, and Mary Etta and Don Sherrell, Celina; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Bethel Ledbetter

Mr. Ledbetter died Saturday, February 10, 2001, at Danto Marvin Health Center. He worked in the tool and die industry and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Born January 1, 1926, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Bradley and Bessie (Garrett) Ledbetter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Ledbetter; a sister Betty Ledbetter; and two brothers, Clifford Ledbetter and Lavy Ledbetter.
Survivors include three sons, Rocky Ledbetter, Roger Ledbetter, and Steven Ledbetter, all of Warren, MI; two daughters, Charlotte Potes, Canton, MI, and Regina Reddick, Warren, MI; two sisters, Jewel Bagby and Joyce Wakefield, both of Livingston; three brothers, Bradley Ledbetter, Carl Ledbetter, and J.B. Ledbetter, all of Livingston; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Eliza Johnson

Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, February 18, 2001, at the Intergrated Health Services in Donelson, TN. She was retired from the Monterey Hospital where she served as a dietician and homemaker and was a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.
Born June 26, 1904, in Davidson, TN, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lou Ella (Edwards) Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Johnson, and a son, Ralph Johnson.
Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Riddle, Mt. Juliet; three sons, James Johnson, Battle Creek, MI, Hugh Johnson, Dayton, OH, and Bob Johnson, Algood; a sister, Mattie Wilson, Anderson, IN; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hunter died Monday, February 12, 2001, at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker.
Born March 14, 1907, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late John and Lou (Deck) Halsell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Hunter. Survivors include a nephew, John Warner Halsell, Livingston; other nephews and nieces; a sister-in-law Dean Halsell, Livingston; six cousins, Orpha Halsell, Avis Windle, Geneva Langford, and Ora Oakley, all of Livingston, Dortha Neal and Daisy Fleming, both of Rickman; and her special family, Jeff and June Neal, Elaina Morgan, and Mattie Taylor, all of the Bethlehem Community.

Born August 22, 1918, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Benton MacMillan "Mack" and Lucinda (Young) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Otto Gutohrlein.
