Winston Brooks

Winston Phillips Brooks, 67, died Wednesday, June 16 at the Huntsville Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Frankfort, Kentucky he was the son of the late Elgan Howard and Jennie Ellison Brooks. As a child attending Robert E. Lee School, he was one of the first victims of polio in Lincoln County leaving him with a limp for the rest of his life.
He graduated from Columbia Military Academy, Vanderbilt University and received a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee at Memphis.
Winston returned to Fayetteville and became an owner and pharmacist at the family owned Standard Drug Co. He worked in the Lincoln County Hospital Pharmacy and had been with Carter’s Drug for 25 years.
A member of the First Baptist Church he has had the distinction of serving as a deacon for 39 years. He was also a Master Mason. He held several offices and was a Knight Templar in the York Rite. Winston was a life member of the Andrew Jackson Lodge #68 and led the lodge by doing the Master’s part in the second degree.
Winston was committed to helping find a cure for cancer through funds raised by the Fabulous Fifties production each year. He was involved in all aspects from writing scripts, building sets and performing. Additionally, he was a member of the Carriage House Players enjoying all aspects of local theater.
Winston loved Fayetteville and Lincoln County and was happiest helping those he served. His experience as a dedicated and skilled pharmacist made him an icon in his field.
He was survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Moorehead Brooks, two sons Ben of Fayetteville, Lt. Col. Phil of Ft. Hood, Texas and wife Lori, one daughter Wendy Lawless of Murfreesboro and husband Scott, grandchildren Brooke and Rebecca Lawless, Amelia and Wes Brooks, sister-in-laws Mary Alice Brooks and Joy Brooks Parker and numerous nieces and nephews. After the death of brothers, Mason Paul and Elgan, he became the father figure for their children. He was preceded in death by special friend, Sammy Muse, and survived by his wife Wilma and God daughter Lynn Chappin.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 19th from 4-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be at Fayetteville First Baptist Church Sunday June 20th at 2PM with Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Brenda Gail Moorehead

Memorial services for Mrs. Brenda Gail Moorehead, age 55, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 1 PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. James Barnes officiating. Mrs. Moorehead passed away Saturday morning at her residence.
A daughter of the late William Raymond Taylor, Sr. and Christine Turk Taylor who survives, she was a native of Magnolia, Arkansas, and a member of Christian Fellowship Church.
In Addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Billy Moorehead of Fayetteville, children Samantha Lindsey and Brian Moorehead both of Fayetteville, grandchildren Caleb Moorehead and River Gillum, both of Fayetteville, sisters Vicky Ann Shell of Estill Springs, Yvonne Russell of Fayetteville, June Campbell of Petersburg, Daisy Warren of Shelbyville, Linda Bonakdar of Houston, Texas, and Debra Taylor of North Carolina, and brothers Larry Taylor of Fort Walton, Florida and Ritchie Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Raymond Taylor, Jr.

Thomas Ulysses "Tom" Riggins

Funeral services for Mr. Tom Riggins, age 74, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday evening at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Kirk Smith officiating. Burial will occur at 1 PM Wednesday at Oakwood cemetery in Milan, TN. Mr. Riggins passed away Saturday evening at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN.
A native of Weakley County, TN, he was a son of the late Paul D. and Casie Pentecost Riggins. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in Oxford, MS and was a veteran of the US Army. He was an elder of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a member of Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Riggins was a past president of Fifth District Drug Association of Tennessee in 1965, a Shriner, and past president of Fayetteville Golf and Country Club. He moved to Fayetteville in 1964 and opened Riggins City Drugs. In later years, he was a pharmacist with CVS Pharmacies.
Survivors include his wife Sue Galloway Riggins of Fayetteville, son Dr. Matthew Paul Riggins and wife Sara of Piney Flats, TN, daughter Pamela Sue Riggins Callahan and husband Kevin of Memphis, brother Russell R. Riggins, three grandchildren Daniel Thomas and Katie Elaine Callahan both of Memphis, and Ian James Riggins of Piney Flats, TN. He is preceded in death by sister Elizabeth Nan Riggins.
Visitation with the family will be from 4-7 PM Tuesday evening at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Intensive Care Unit at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN.
The family of Mr. Riggins would like to send a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the ICU at Baptist Hospital.
Mayme Ruth Swinford Colbert

Graveside funeral services for Mayme Ruth Swinford Colbert, age 87, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM at Kirkland cemetery with Jeff Swinford officiating.
Mrs. Colbert was a native of Lincoln County was a daughter of the late Willie and Ola Clark Swinford and retired as a sales clerk from Kuhn’s Department Store.
Survivors include two sisters: Wilma Monks and husband Maurice and Mardell Moffett, and sister-in-law Jean Swinford all of Fayetteville, three nieces, three nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Colbert was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Earl Colbert and one brother Edward Swinford.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at the Higgins Funeral Home.
Stacy (Sullivan) Clark

Funeral services for Mrs. Stacy (Sullivan) Clark, age 75, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 2PM Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Fowler and Bro. Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln cemetery beside her husband Wilton Clark. Mrs. Clark passed away Friday morning in Huntsville Hospital.
She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late Emmitt and Mary Lou Howell Sullivan. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors include two sons Dennis (Jo Ann) Clark, and Dwayne (Anita) Clark both of Fayetteville, sisters Bobbie Clark of Fayetteville, Ruby (Alton) Woodard of Petersburg and Leona Barnard of Detroit, MI, brother Charles Sullivan of Fayetteville, three grandchildren and one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters Ruth Durham, Jewell Graves and Lucille Crabtree.

Melvin D. Goode, Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin D. Goode, Sr., age 69, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 1 PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Malcolm Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia cemetery beside his wife Janice Goode who died in 1993. Mr. Goode passed away Saturday evening, October 18, 2008, in Holly Pond, Alabama.
A native of Lincoln County, he was a son of the late James Nelson and Stacie Swinford Goode, formerly employed in car sales, and a member of Berea Baptist Church in Athens, AL.
Survivors include 2 daughters Lana Goode Byrd of Holly Pond, AL and Dana Goode Shields of Athens, AL, step- son Patrick Lawrence of Athens, AL, 2 sons Melvin Goode, Jr. of Fayetteville and Gregory Goode of Athens, AL, brother Paul Goode of Fayetteville and sister Brenda Goode of Fayetteville, 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Opal Lee Polly Parks
Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Lee Polly Parks, age 88, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 1 PM Thursday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Hamilton and Bro. Don Stevens. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband J.W. Parks. Mrs. Parks passed away Saturday morning, November 1, 2008 at her daughter Sammie Kay Pigg's residence.
A daughter of the late Sam and Bessie Adams Polly, she was a native of Nacado Cias, TX, formerly employed with Serbin, and a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Harrel Parks of Hattiesburg, MS, Larry Dennis Parks of Atlanta, GA, Donnie Parks of Fayetteville
and Gary Parks of Flintville, and daughters Peggy Chick Schrimcher of Fayetteville, Yvonne Shelton of Douglasville, GA, Rachel Taylor of Fayetteville, Janice Cothren of Holly Pond, AL, and Sammie Kay Pigg of Fayetteville, a granddaughter Tanya Lee Pigg who helped take care of her Nannie and 16 Grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons Tony and Randall Parks.

Daniel J. Deweese

Funeral services for Mr. Daniel J. Deweese, age 80 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Tuesday at 2 PM in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Sister Vivian Nicholson. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery beside his wife Tynie Whitaker Deweese.
A native of Madison Co., AL he was the son of the late Elisha and Beatrice Allen Deweese. He was a farmer, retired from Amana and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters Lois Sawyers of Fayetteville and Sarah Wright of Fayetteville, three sons Larry Pease of Fayetteville, Pat (Tracy) Deweese of Fayetteville, and John Deweese of Fayetteville, one sister Georgi Browning of New Market, AL, one brother James Deweese of Beebee, AR, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Lorine Maynard and sister Litha Deweese.

Ann Carol Bouldin
Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Carol Bouldin, age 65, of Smyrna, TN will be conducted at 7 PM Monday evening at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Dye officiating. Burial will occur Tuesday morning at 10 AM at Stewarts cemetery. Mrs. Bouldin passed away Saturday morning, November 29, 2008, at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
A daughter of the late Elzie and Louise Thompson Brooks, she was a native of Lincoln County, formerly employed with Lincoln County Bank, and a member of Leanna Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband Don Bouldin of Smyrna, TN son Todd Bouldin of Los Angeles, CA, sister Linda Jean and husband Stan of Kelso, TN, nephews Steven Jean and wife Julie of Kelso, TN, Brad Jean and wife Shena of Kelso, TN, and Ley Jean and wife Melissa of Fayetteville, TN, great-nephews Chandler, Logan, Neyland, and Carson Jean, great-niece Ashlyn Jean all of Kelso, TN, and a host of friends and family.

Irene Delia (Price) Stevenson

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Delia (Price) Stevenson, age 87, of Fayetteville will be conducted Saturday morning at 11AM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Jones and Pastor Tommy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln cemetery beside her husband Carl Stevenson. Mrs. Stevenson passed away Wednesday night at Lincoln Skill Care Center.
She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late William Thomas and Laura Norris Price. Mrs. Stevenson was a homemaker and former nurse at the Lincoln County Hospital. She was also a seamstress with Jonathan Logan and Serbin Fashions and a former assembler with Space Craft International. She was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and had formerly been a member of Stateline and Lincoln United Methodist Churches. She was a children’s Sunday School Teacher at the Lincoln Methodist Church for 40 years, taught Bible School, worked in Christmas Programs, formed and directed a children’s choir, and was active in all church functions. Irene was one of the Charter Members of the Lincoln Home Demonstration club (later re-chartered as the Pea Ridge Homemakers Club), served as the President for many years and later as the Treasurer. She worked many tireless hours on club projects and activities and it was one of her greatest joys.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Thompson of Elkton, TN, Eloise (Ronnie) Hudgins of Fayetteville and Reba (Jimmy) Seals of Fayetteville, six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-8pm at Higgins Funeral Home.
