Jonnie Elizabeth Whitworth Russell, age 94, of Unionville, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Bedford County Nursing Home in Shelbyville. Mrs. Russell was the widow of the late Houston E. Russell, and the daughter of the late William Edward Whitworth and Kittie Smotherman Whitworth.
Mrs. Russell, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, was an elementary school teacher in Bedford County for 48 years with 37 of those years at Community School in Unionville.
Before her illness Mrs. Russell was a volunteer at both Bedford County Hospital and Bedford County Nursing Home, was active in the Bedford County Retired Teachers Association, was an avid rook player, and served as treasurer of Zion’s Hill United Methodist Church in Unionville.
She is survived by a son, Allen D. Crowell, of Winchester; grandson, Coby Russell Crowell and wife Becky of Unionville; and great grandson, Coby (C. J.) Russell Crowell, Jr. of Unionville.

Matthew Ryan (Matt) Malone, age 33, died Thursday evening, February 26, 2009 in a single-vehicle accident in rural Lincoln County.
Mr. Malone was a beloved member of the Fayetteville-Lincoln County community and touched the lives of many through his involvement with local agricultural and civic organizations, as well as his church.
A licensed general contractor, he was a member of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. He was a devout Christian, a loving father, husband, brother and son.
He was a board member and past president of the Lincoln County Livestock Association, an avid cattleman, horseman, hunter and a guide for Kids Hunting for a Cure.
Mr. Malone was a native of Lincoln County and the son of John Robert (Bob) and Jean Hood Malone, who survive.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Eagleville native, Dawn Mosley Malone, of Fayetteville; daughter, Aubrey Mattison Malone, and son, John Dylan Malone, both of Fayetteville; grandparents, Geneva Malone, Floy Hood Hines and Pete Hines, all of Fayetteville; sister, Jade Butcher of Fayetteville; mother-in-law, Martha Mosley of Eagleville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James M Malone and Carl Russell Hood.

Robert E. Parrish, age 79, of Eagleville, died on Monday, February 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie L. Parrish, and father, Henry Miller Parrish Sr. He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews. He was a retired Metro Police Sgt. with 25 years of service, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Liberty Lodge #77 AF&M, and a member of the Al Menah Shrine.

Sally Boyd, age 82, of Rockvale, our precious Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
She was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1926. After marrying Samuel Hayes Boyd, they traveled and lived in many states while Sam was in the military before deciding to reside in Rockvale.
Miss Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Boyd, daughter Betsy E. Boyd, and son-in-law Mike Anderson.
She is survived by daughter, Suzy Anderson and son, George Boyd (Rita). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Beth Anderson Leonard (Andy), Dustin Anderson (Jennifer), Joshua Anderson and Gretchen Boyd Thompson (Lucas). She was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Lizzy Thompson, Meah Thompson, Mikey Leonard, and Lane Anderson.
She was considered a very creative person. In her early days, she studied Fashion Design. She also performed and played the Koto, a Japanese instrument. Her main love was her family and living for the Lord. She was well known for her giving and loving spirit. She was well loved as a devoted member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (Rockvale) for many, many years.

Johnny Johnson, age 74, of Murfreesboro, died Monday, February 23, 2009. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late, Andy and Jennie Bell George Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Maynard Johnson, and children, Robin (James) Morgan of Christiana, John (Shanna) Johnson of Kittrell; grandchildren, Heather Zimmerman and Jessica Morgan of Christiana, Ashley Lane of Texas, Elijah and Isaac Johnson of Kittrell; sisters, Fairy Compton and Lorene Whittemore of Murfreesboro.
Mr. Johnson served 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corp. During his time with the Marines he served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. After the Marine Corp. he worked for Rutherford County Co-op and the Rutherford County Highway Department, and for Ryder Truck Rental for 10 years. He was a member of Rockvale Church of Christ.

William Henry McDaniel, age 88, of Eagleville, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Mr. McDaniel was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County and elder of the Jackson Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was longtime dairy farmer, owner of a truck for the Rutherford County Creamery, and buyer for Cedar Lane Company
Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his parents, James M. McDaniel and Mary B. Hudson McDaniel; five brothers, Macie Lee McDaniel, George W. McDaniel, Albert Hayes McDaniel, Ervin McDaniel and Johnnie L. McDaniel; and two sisters, Sally McDaniel and Susie McDaniel Rowland. He is survived by his wife, Earlene Barrett McDaniel; two sons, William R. McDaniel and Steve B. McDaniel, both of Eagleville; two daughters, Shirley Loyce McDaniel and Gloria Kay (James) Morton, all of Eagleville; and grandchild John Andrew Morton.

Cornelia Stanford Lowe, age 95, of Franklin, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and received her Master s plus three years of additional education from Peabody College. She was a retired teacher with over 30 years of service teaching in Rutherford County, Houston County and David Lipscomb School. She was a faithful member of Southern Hills Church of Christ and a devoted Sunday School teacher for many years. She was preceded in death by husband, Sewell H. Lowe; brother, N.J. Stanford; and sister, Louise Skidmore. She is survived by daughter, Dr. Marilyn Lowe of Denison, IA; son, Everett Hampton (Dr. Fay Gannon) Lowe of Brentwood; sister, Geneva Laws of Fayetteville; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Martha Beth Duzak, age 49, of Rockvale, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Rutherford County and a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles McClaran and one brother, Mike McClaran. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Marie Duzak of Baltimore, MD; her mother, Hazel Overby; one brother, Charles McClaran of Christiana; and two sisters, Connie Wiseley of Manassas, VA and Susan McClaran of Rockvale.

Bill Griffy, age 74, of Chapel Hill, died Tuesday morning, February 10, 2009 at his home where he was surrounded by his family and a host of friends. Mr. Griffy was a native of Williamson County and was a son of the late Leslie Ray and Mary Alice Sullivan Griffy. He served in the United States Air Force during the Koren conflict. Mr. Griffy was retired from the Williamson County Board of Education after 20 years as school bus garage manager and was a member of the Holts Corner Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sister, Hettie Hargrove and Betty Leverette and by a son-in-law, Steve Lawrence.
Mr. Griffy is survived by his wife, Barbara Finley Griffy of Chapel Hill; three daughters, Sheila Griffy of Franklin, Sherry (Ricky) Batten of Chapel Hill, Shanna (Mike) McCoy of Chapel Hill; brother, Sewell Griffy of Unionville; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

June C. Byous, 84 of Rockvale passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Heritage Medical Center. Mrs. Byous was an Eastern member for 50 plus years in Texas and was a member of Rockvale Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Byous was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Anna Collins; husband, John D. Byous; brother, Bill Ladas. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Alice and Jim Fernie of Texas and Jan and Mark Watson of Rockvale; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Nick Ladas of Sacramento, CA; several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Manier, age 79, of the Rover community of Bedford County died Saturday, February 7, 2009 following an extended illness. A native of Chicago, IL, Mrs. Manier was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian Wardrip Senkevech. She was a homemaker and a member of Rover Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Manier and a brother, Tommy Senkevech.
Survivors include her husband, Earl L. Manier of the Rover community; 3 sons, Tommy (Becky) Dean of Mobile, AL; Earl Reed (Sandy) Manier, Sr. of the Rover community, Wade Manier of the Rover community; a sister, Betty Baldwin of Lucerne, CA; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Manier of the Rover community; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Wanda Hoover, 73, of Cookville, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at her home. She was born March 14, 1935 in Putnam County to the late George Neal and Auda Lee Wilmoth Ford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" Franklin Hoover and a sister, Janice Neal. Mrs. Hoover is survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim and Janet Fort of Mt. Sterling, KY and John M. Ford of Cookeville.

Melvin Douglas, 70, a longtime native of Rutherford County, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Boulevard Terrace Nursing Home. He was born in Christiana to the late Leonard Horace Douglas Sr and Lydia Lorene Robinson Douglas. He was a framing contractor and attended the Church of Christ.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, JoAnn Wade; brothers, Richard Douglas and James Douglas; sisters, Mary Ellen Smotherman, Clara Smotherman and Linda Travis. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Wade of Rockvale and Jenny (Justin) Helmick of Murfreesboro; sons, Steve Warrick of Christiana and Chris (Tracy) Warrick of Christiana; seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Chester Douglas, Mack (Hazel) Douglas, Leonard "Jr" (Kathleen) Douglas, Willie Douglas and Bobby (Louise) Douglas, all of Christiana; sisters, Joan (Calvin) Faulk of Bell Buckle, Frieda (Jesse) Haney of Christiana and Betty Batey of Murfreesboro; son in law, William Goodall Wade of Murfreesboro; several nieces and nephews.
