JEAN CLAY
Jean Clay, age 94, of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, died Friday, September 23, 2011 in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Mrs. Clay was born in Marshall County and was a homemaker. She was a daughter of the late Patrick and Ethel Derryberry Aldridge. Mrs. Clay was a life long member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Gordon Clay who died in 1961.
Mrs. Clay is survived by a daughter, Joy (Joe) West, Tipton, Georgia; two sons, Carl (Brenda) Clay, Goodlettsville, TN, Bobby (Patsy) Clay, Mt. Juliet, TN; sister Lois Puckett, Pulaski, TN; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cedar Grove cemetery.

LORENE O'DELL
Lorene O’Dell, age 95, of Eagleville, TN died Monday, September 19, 2011. She was born September, 7 1916 in the Link Community in Bedford County and was the daughter of the late George Frank and Leila Myrtle Williams Brown. Mrs. O’Dell is also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. O’Dell; sisters Polly Buckner, Clarabelle Weaver and Ida Brown; and brother Houston Brown.
Mrs. O’Dell is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Diane (Gregory R.) Greer of Hancock, MI. and Patti (Jimmy) Smotherman of Eagleville, TN; grandchildren and spouses, Kendra Smotherman-Davis and Craig Davis of Eagleville, Katie (Joey) Taylor of Eagleville, Karyl (Mike) Paul of Eagleville, Gerald Greer of Brighton, MI and Michael Greer of Minneapolis, MN; a great-grandson, Lane Taylor of Eagleville; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia (Hershel) Jackson of Eagleville; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, James O. (Bess) Brown of Murfreesboro and Homer (Greta) Brown of Rockvale.
Mrs. O’Dell was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. She was a 1934 high school graduate of Unionville Community School and a 1939 college graduate from Middle Tennessee University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English. She worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge, during World War II, where she was a machine operator and an FBI agent. Mrs. O’Dell was a retired school teacher from the Western School District in Parma, Michigan. She was a 2nd grade school teacher at Parma Elementary and taught 20 years, from 1958 to 1978. Mrs. O’Dell enjoyed quilting and reading. The O’Dell family wishes to express their undying gratitude to the wonderful care the employees of Adams Place gave to Mrs. Lorene during her six and a half year stay.

VIRGINIA ALINE MULLEN TURNER
Virginia Aline Mullen Turner, Age 85, passed away on September 3, 2011. Born June 13th, 1926, to parents Percy and Levy Mullen in Nashville, TN, she lived most of her life there until moving to Eagleville, TN in 1979 and residing the last two years at Rutland Place in Mt. Juliet, TN. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Norman Douglas Turner. She is survived by sons Steven (Paula), Mark (Deneen), and David, grandchildren Benjamin, Andrew, Campbell, Belle, and Mitchell Turner. Virginia dedicated her life to serving her Lord and her family. She taught children's Sunday School for many years and was always involved in her church. She also volunteered at Southern Hills Hospital for twenty years. She is a member of First Baptist Church, Mt. Juliet, and active in the McClendon SS class and Senior Adult Ministry. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. with a memorial service to immediately follow at First Baptist Church, Mt. Juliet, TN located at 735 N. Mt Juliet Road, Mt Juliet, TN 37122(615-754-2525). A private burial service with family and extended family will be held on Wednesday, September 7. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church, Mt. Juliet, "Journey of Grace Capital Campaign, " a children's ministry building fund. Alma Leathers Hill, of Rockvale, died August 28, 2011 at home. She was a native of Rutherford County and daughter of the late John Bell and Mary Dyer Leathers.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Hill, Jr. and a son, Kenneth Wayne Hill.
Mrs. Hill was a member of Windrow Methodist Church and a graduate of Eagleville High School.

Barbara Ann Ferguson, 70 of Rockvale, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born in Nashville, TN to the late Hubert and Birtie Lyle. Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Pete, Hubert, LJ and Henry Lyle. Mary Frances Eley Reid, age 86, of the Rover community of Bedford County, died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Bethany Health Care Center in Nashville following an extended illness. A native of Bedford County, Mrs. Reid was a daughter of the late Clayton and Maggie Smotherman Carlton. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her former husbands, Cecil Eley and William A. Reid.
She is survived by daughters, Lynda (Floyd) Chunn of Lewisburg and Rita (Edwin) Ralston of Nashville; a sister Jean (Sonny) Glasscock; brothers, Earl (Lavada Carlton and John (Cordy) Carlton; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three stepchildren; and two step grandchildren.

Pauline Howard, age 90, of College Grove, died Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2006 in Franklin after an extended illness. Mrs. Howard was a native of Obion County and was a daughter of the late Otto W. and Ollie Frances Davis Cole. She was a homemaker and a member of the College Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Anderson Howard who died in 1973.
She is survived by daughters, Frances L. Brooks, Nashville, Edna Pearl Roberts, Farmington Community of Marshall County, Roma Jean Perry, Nashville, Alma Louise Sneed, College Grove; son, Robert Matthew Howard, Petersburg, TN; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren.

Charles E. Lovvorn, age 68, of the Unionville-Deason Road area and a native of Christiana, died Sunday, December 17, 2006, at MTMC. He was preceded in death by his father, Coston Lovvorn, who died in 1991. Mr. Lovvorn was a member of the Blankenship United Methodist Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Christiana High School, served as a paratrooper in the US Army and was a retired instructor at the Department of Corrections Training Academy.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Harris Lovvorn; mother Geneva Rowland Lovvorn of Murfreesboro; sons Randy, Dana and Dwayne Lovvorn, all of Murfreesboro, and Bart Lovvorn of Petersburg; daughter Cherri Lovvorn of Murfreesboro; brother Carlos Lovvorn of Christiana; sisters Marie Gannon of Crossville and Wanda Gatewood and Diane Morgan, both of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Donald Brown Hargrove, age 76 of Nashville, died Saturday December 16, 2006. A native of Allisona, he was the son of the late Ivie Herbert and Ruby Kathleen Brown Hargrove. Mr. Hargrove was a US Navy veteran, a retired mechanic with Purity Dairies, and a member of Eagleville Baptist Church.
He is survived by son, James Herbert Hargrove of Smyrna; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Joe Gipson of Smyrna, Kaye and Jimmy Simpson of Smyrna, Brenda Wray of Murfreesboro; sister, Margaret Eady of Mt. Juliet; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

Joe Jordan Jr., age 82, of Shelbyville died Friday, December 15, 2006, at Bedford County Medical Center. He was born June 12, 1924, in Rutherford County, to the late Joe and Alice Jordan Sr. He was a farmer and worked with Durango Boot in Chapel Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Johnson.
He is survived by daughters Bernice Hampton of Shelbyville, Barbara Jordan of Unionville and Sarah Burns of Nashville; sons Walter and Jerry Jordan, both of Unionville; sisters Maggie Frazier, Josephine Greer and Facie L. Puckett, all of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gary Edward Childers, age 51, of Unionville, died Monday, December 4, 2006 in Nashville. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Childers and by a sister, Cheryl Robin Cormeney.

Juanita Shaffer Carlton, age 68, of Eagleville, TN, died Friday, December 8, 2006 in Murfreesboro, TN. A native of Nashville, TN, Mrs. Carlton was the daughter of the late Herman Howard and Mary Louise Bibb Shaffer and was a member of the Rockvale Church of God. Mrs. Carlton was very active in her community having conceived and implemented the idea to have a Bicentennial Celebration in 1976 in Eagleville to begin fundraising for housing for the public library. Her other accomplishments include; Secretary for The National Association for Family and Community Education, 1991-1993; a member of FCE since 1970; served as treasurer of Tennessee FCE, 1985-1986; President of Tennessee FCE, 1995-1996; recipient of the Heart of FCE Award in 1999; President of Tennessee FCE, 1995-1996 and Treasurer, 1985-1986; represented the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service at the Land Grant University National Leadership Conference; in 1998 was appointed to the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service Advisory Council and the U.T. Volunteerism Priority Team; received Epsilon Sigma Phi recognition as a State Friend of Extension; recipient of the Rutherford County Community Service Award in 2002; and received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Survived by her husband of 50 years, Joe Frank Carlton Sr. of Eagleville; sons, Joe Frank (Cindy) Carlton Jr. and Richard Anthony (Barbara) Carlton Sr. of Eagleville; brothers, John Paul Shaffer of Hermitage and Leslie Harding Shaffer of Pegram; grandchildren, Kristy (Stephen), Andy, Tiffany, Kyle, Tami (Donnie), Brittany, Emily and Lucas; great grandchildren, Damian, Paxtin, Taylor, Hunter and Keith.
