W. Edsel Dotson
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI: Services for W. Edsel Dotson, 74, formerly of McKenzie, were at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 16 at the Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Burial was in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. He died at his home on Tuesday, May 14.
Mr. Dotson was born on March 28, 1928, the son of Shelly Odis and Callie Ann Dotson. He was a native of McKenzie and long-time resident of Jackson, Mississippi. Following graduation from Delta State Teachers College, He moved to Selmer where he began 35 years of service with South Central Bell and worked with Eagle Scouts, receiving the Order of the Arrow. Mr. Dotson was a faithful member, deacon, and teacher at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He also served on the Board of Directors of Friends of Alcoholics in Flora, Mississippi.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Frances, daughters Susan Dotson Anthony of Raymonds, MS, Shelley Dotson Hall of Eclectic, Alabama and Lesley Lea Dotson of Cordova and two grandchildren.
Mary Allen Hunt
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Mary Allen Hunt died Wednesday, May 22 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 24 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lynn Stapleton and Brother David Clubb officiating. Interment
followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hunt was born in Yuma to the late Arco and Cornelia Walker Moody. She was a retired supervisor for Publix Shirt Corp. and a member of Yuma Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma Bonicelli of Huntingdon and several nieces and nephews.
Otis Dewey Powell
Mr. Otis Dewey Powell, 80, passed away on May 21 at his home after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 24 at the Huntingdon Church of Christ with Brother E.C. Meadows, Brother Don Reidhimer and Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment
followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Powell was born May 26, 1921 to the late Lezlie O. Powell and Otis Marie Cruse Powell. He was a retired self-owned Retail Monument dealer. He was a long-time member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. Two sisters, Reba Pintur and Darrell King, both of McKenzie, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Powell; two daughters, Gwen Morris and Debbie Stinson; one son, Charles Powell, all of Huntingdon; one stepson, Cecil W. Goodwin of Paso Robles, California; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Norden of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Dessie Norden of Huntingdon, Martha Chance of Jackson and Ruby Griffin of Pinson; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Henrietta A. Johnson
CLINTON, MISSOURI: Henrietta A. Johnson, 81, died Friday, May 24 at Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28 at Northeast Baptist Church. Interment
followed in Englewood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Baptist Church Building Fund or the Alzheimers Association.
She was born January 11, 1921 in McKenzie, the daughter of Albert and Willie Penny Newton. She married
Merle Johnson on October 3, 1949, was a homemaker and a member of the Northeast Baptist Church.
Her parents, one son, David Johnson, a brother, James A. Newton and a sister, Onola Mullins preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Merle Johnson; three daughters, Etta Merle Heizman of Lancaster, Ohio; Dixie Escalante of Urich, Missouri and Ruth Johnson of Clinton, Missouri; one son, Ronald Johnson of Beardstown, Illinois; three brothers, Alfred Newton, William Newton and Bobby Joe Newton, all of McKenzie; and eleven grandchildren.
Frances Lee Hood Brewer
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Frances Lee Hood Brewer, 67, died Tuesday, May 21 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, May 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rufus Chandler and Bro. Randall Woods officiating. Interment
followed in the Hampton cemetery.
Mrs. Brewer was born September 8, 1934 in Carroll County to the late James Wylie and Annie Mae (Kirk) Hood. She was a homemaker and a member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Ray Lavoin (Humco) Brewer; one son, David Ray Brewer, both of Huntingdon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jacob Berry
TREZEVANT - Services for Mr. Jacob Berry, 72, were on Saturday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Bond Funeral Home with burial in the Mt. Ararat cemetery.
Mr. Berry died Wednesday, May 22 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Kate Rachel Hall
McKENZIE - Kate Rachel Hall, 93, died Sunday, May 26 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at First Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Trull and Clayton Owen officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Menchise, Jim Powell, David Mitchell, Robert Jackson, L.J. Hall and Gary Baker. Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Baker, Jon Baker, Dean Burlison and Oscar Owen.
Mrs. Hall, the daughter of the late Charles Preston Cooper and Armenta Elizabth Brinkley Cooper, was born March 14, 1909 in Buena Vista. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband, Robert Molton Hall, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Webb (Bill) of Russellville, KY; one son, Jack C. Hall (Judy) of McKenzie; a sister, Bessie Baker of Martin; four grandchildren, Marsha Hall Powell, Kavonne Webb Mitchell, Julie Webb Jackson and Amy Hall; eight great-grandchildren, Mitchell Hall, Emily Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Daniel Jackson, Madeline Mitchell, Wilson Powell, Erin Jackson and Jaclyn Powell.

Aaron Thomas Taylor
McKENZIE - Services for Aaron Thomas Taylor, 85, were at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 26 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Rev. Vance Rushing officiating. Burial was in Shiloh cemetery.
Mr. Taylor, a retired farmer and factory worker, died Sunday, March 24 at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie.
He was born July 22, 1916 in Carroll County to the late Ora Cecilia Reese Taylor and Thomas Claude Taylor.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Taylor of McKenzie; two grandchildren, Buford Taylor of Paris and Lori Taylor of McKenzie; and two great-grandchildren, Lilli Taylor and Chase Clayton of Paris.
His wife, Mary Maxine Nelson Taylor also preceded him in death.
Elizabeth Smith
GLEASON - Services for Elizabeth Smith, 89, a homemaker were on Monday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home with Bro. Joe White officiating. Burial was in Hopewell cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Friday, March 22 at Methodist Volunteer Hospital.
She was born March 11, 1913 in Gleason to the late Robert W. and Sally Florence Drewry Curry. She was the widow of Tillmon Smith.
Survivors include a daughter, Celia Dinning; a son, Danny Smith, both of Gleason; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Claude W. Adams
Bloomsfield Hts., Michigan: Memorial services will be held for Claude W. Adams on Monday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie. Bro. Robert Hull will officiate the services. Mr. Adams, retired from General Motors, died January 19, 2000 at his home.
He was born February 16, 1918 in McKenzie to the late Mary Walpole Adams and Claude Winston Adams. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, ATO, T&N and the Club General Motors. He served four years with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Anne K. Adams; a daughter, Mary Annett Adams Horan; a son, Jay Winston Adams; and two grandchildren.
A son, Claude King Adams also preceded him in death.
There will be visitation prior to the memorial services.
Margaret Jane Higdon
McKENZIE - Services for Margaret Jane "Mama Jane" Higdon, 85, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27 at McKenzie Church of Christ with Bro. Jim Roberts and Bro. Kenneth Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Higdon, retired employee of Brown Shoe Company, died Monday morning, March 25 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born November 17, 1916 in Clarksburg to the late Sudie Hood Scott and Luther Scott. She was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ.
Survivors include seven daughters, Velta Flippin, Shelba McCaslin, Linda Reed, Lodie Hudson, Jodie Baker, and Sherry Epperson, all of McKenzie and Sue Patton of Valrico, Florida; three sons, Donald Higdon of McKenzie, Terry Higdon of Camden and Richard Wall of Sommerville; a sister, Frances Nell Forrest of Huntingdon; two brothers, Charlie Scott and Cecil Scott, both of Trezevant; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Her husband, James Elton Higdon; four brothers, Onnie Scott, Virgil Scott, Clayton Scott and Walter D. Scott, and a sister, Gracie Frazee, also preceded her in death.
James Freeman Turner
HOLLOW ROCK - Mr. James Freeman Turner, 81, died Friday morning, March 22 at his home. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 23 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Whitworth officiating. Interment
followed at New Hope cemetery near Vale.
Mr. Turner was born January 22, 1921 in Dyer County to the late Lee and Katie Hudson Turner. He was a retired employee of Midland Brake and a member of the New Hope Methodist Church. Three brothers, Harold Turner, R. C. Turner and Aubrey Turner and a sister, Annie Mae Grissom preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alletha Turner; one son, Freelon Turner of Lexington; two daughters, Joyce Barnhart of Hollow Rock and Janie McDaniel of Martin; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Ada Herbert Johnson Cockroft
COLUMBIA, MARYLAND: Ada Herbert Johnson Cockroft, 82, died March 9 at her home. The funeral service was held on March 13 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Highland, Maryland with burial at Pohick Episcopal Church in Lorton, Virginia.
Mrs. Cockroft was born in Lexington, Mississippi and graduated from Lexington High School. She attended All Saints College in Vicksburg and graduated from the University of Mississippi. She was a member of Chi Omega fraternity.
She worked at the Pentagon during World War II and taught school in Oxford, Mississippi. She lived in Jackson, Mississippi, Memphis and McKenzie.
While living in McKenzie, Mrs. Cockroft was a member of the Mentor Club, the Morning Glory Garden Club and a volunteer at the hospital. She was a very active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Paris. Throughout her life she was very active in the Episcopal Church and served as president of various community groups.
Mrs. Cockroft lived her last years in Columbia. She is survived by her husband, Robert Cockroft; two daughters, Alice Oates of Columbia and Carolyn Cockroft of Woodbridge, Virginia; one granddaughter and a sister, Mrs. Richard Aiken of Jackson, Mississippi.
Memorials may be made at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Pohick Episcopal Church and Johns Hopkins Hospice.
Clifford Lee Hampton
HOLLOW ROCK - Mr. Clifford Lee Hampton, 80, died Friday, March 22 at his home. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 24 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Elder James Stewart and Brother Terry McDaniel officiating. Interment
followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hampton was born March 8, 1922 to the late Wiley and Esteadie Thomas Hampton in Westport. He was a retired employee of Henry I. Siegel and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. A son, Howard Hampton and an infant son preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Juanita Smothers Hampton of Hollow Rock; one daughter, Karen Lifsey of Huntingdon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Henry Thomas McNeal
GLEASON - Services for Mr. Henry Thomas McNeal, 80, will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 27 at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville, Georgia with burial in Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. McNeal died Saturday, March 23 at McKenzie Methodist Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1921 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Lucius Preston and Ruth Fleming McNeal.
Survivors include two daughters, Trish Price of Gleason and Nancy Brown of Hampton, South Carolina; three sons, Royce McNeal of Watkinsville, Georgia, Randall McNeal of Houston, Texas and Reggie McNeal of Columbia, South Carolina; a brother, Junior McNeal of Gainesville, Georgia; a sister, Lydia Taylor of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
