Joseph Phillip Carter
McKENZIE - Services for Joseph Phillip Carter, 81, were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14 at First Baptist Church in McKenzie with Bros. Dennis Trull, Orrin Dangeau and John Adams officiating. Burial was in Poplar Grove cemetery in Springville.
Mr. Carter, a retired rural postal carrier, died Sunday, January 12 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
He was born July 1920 in Henry County to the late Mary Cronin Carter and James Phillip Carter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, VFW, WWII Army Veteran DAV, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge Caledonia Lodge #96.
A son, Jerry Phillip Carter, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lela Provo Carter; two daughters, Karen Kail of Memphis and Sherry Robinson of Lavinia; and three grandchildren, Will Robinson III, Emily Robinson and Carter Robinson.
Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred Garrett
McKENZIE - Services for Mildred Garrett, 74, were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Nation officiating. Burial was in Carroll Memorial Gardens, McKenzie.
Mrs. Garrett, a retired assistant librarian at McKenzie High School, died Monday night, January 7 at her residence.
She was born October 21, 1927 in McKenzie to the late Willie Boyd Allison and Jessie Allison. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jerianne Hatfield of Leitchfield, Kentucky; three sons Keith Garrett of McKenzie and Ed Garrett and Dennis Garrett, both of Memphis; four sisters, Joann Allison of Davenport, Louisiana, Carol Sue French of Bruceton, and Doris Wooters and Pat Wright, both of Huntingdon; three brothers, Bill Allison of Muscatine, Iowa, Bobby Allison of Jackson and Mike Allison of Huntingdon and four grandchildren.

James Otis Cawthon
BRUCETON - Services for James Otis Cawthon, 88, were at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 14 at Bruceton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Prospect cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Cawthon, a retired cattle buyer and road supervisor, died Saturday, January 12.
He was born July 22, 1913 in Hollow Rock to the late Otis Tyler "O.T." and Ivy Cleaver Cawthon. He was a former Carroll County Commissioner and a World War II navy veteran.
A son, Gary Lynn Cawthon and a brother, Harold Cawthon, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Spencer of Paris and Carol Bethshears of Bruceton, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Effie Dale Wheat
McKENZIE - Mrs. Effie Dale Wheat, 92, died Tuesday, January 8 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Conquest officiating. Interment icon followed in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mrs. Wheat was born March 14, 1909 in Humphreys County to the late George and Mary Akers Howell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church. Her husband, Lee Wheat, who died in 1976 and three sons, James Wheat, Joe Wheat and Buddy Wheat also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Lois Hampton and Louise Crider of Huntingdon, Jessie Cude of McKenzie and Janie Blaylock of Trezevant; two sons, Mack Wheat of McKenzie and Wayne Wheat of the Philippines; one sister, Pearl Hooper of Lobleville; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Dan Edward Brummitt
MEMPHIS - Dan Edward Brummitt, 59, postal service clerk, died Wednesday, January 9 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 11 at Roller Family Funeral Home with burial in Memory Hill Gardens. The Gleason native was a member of Sycamore View Church of Christ.
Mr. Brummitt, husband of Rose Brummitt, also leaves a daughter, Dana Ainsworth of Bartlett; two sisters, Kay Brummitt and Glenda Holland, both of Memphis; two brothers, Don Brummitt of Heber Springs, Arkansas and Dale Brummitt of Gleason; and two grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, the American Cancer Society or Agape Child and Family Services.

Josie Rochelle Essary
TREZEVANT - Funeral services for Mrs. Josie Rochelle Essary, 91, were held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 12 at the Brummitt Funeral Home, Trezevant, with burial following in Trezevant cemetery.
Mrs. Essary, a retired school teacher, died from heart failure on Thursday night, January 10 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie. She was a graduate of Bethel College and a member of Trezevant Church of Christ. She taught in the Trezevant School System for 33 years.
Her husbands, Giles Rochelle and Gale Essary and a sister Claudine Ross preceded her in death.
She was born September 11, 1910 in Trezevant to the late Pearl Singleton and M. E. Singleton.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Holmes Johnson of Memphis, a stepdaughter, Christine Mays of Atwood; a son, Jim Rochelle of Knoxville; a stepson, Gordon Essary of Jackson; a sister, Jessie Dickson of Fruit Heights, Utah; a brother, Fletcher Singleton of Enterprise, Mississippi; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Linda Carol Clarida
HUNTINGDON - Funeral services for Linda Carol Clarida, 36, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 11 at Shelton Funeral Home with burial in Oakwood cemetery in Dyer. Mrs. Clarida, a homemaker, died Tuesday, January 8 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Survivors include three daughters, Stacy Clarida, Jessica Clarida, and Dessire Faulkner, all of Huntingdon; a son, Kenneth Hurst of Huntingdon, her mother, Patsy Ray of Bridgeview, Illinois; her father, Evert C. Hurst of Sevierville; a sister, Joane Hurst of Bridgeview, Illinois; and two brothers, Bob Hurst of Darien, Illinois and John Hurst of Blue Island, Illinois.

Odell Fesmire
HURON: Funeral services for Mr. Odell Fesmire, 82,were at 3:30, Wednesday, January 9 at Pafford Funeral Home Chapel with Burial in Henderson County Memory Gardens in Lexington.
Mr. Fesmire, a retired employee of Martha White Foods in Jackson, died Tuesday, January 8 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Pope Fesmire; two stepdaughters, Teresa Bailey and Jessie Fay Overman, both of Lexington; a son, Larry Fesmire of Jackson; a stepson, David Pope of Lexington; four sisters, Elsie Franklin, Lucille Hamilton, Pearline Hamilton and Lorain Owens, all of Lexington; three brothers, Austin Fesmire of Atwood, Leotho Fesmire of Trezevant, and Odean Fesmire of Lexington; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Shelby Jean Rhodes and a brother, Hurl Fesmire, preceded him in death.

Sarah Estelle Smith
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Sarah Estelle Smith, 91, died Monday, January 7 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, January 10 at the Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Lynn Stapleton and Elder Kenneth Massey officiating. Interment icon followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born January 2, 1911 to the late Jim "James" and Artie Missy Hampton Holladay in Carroll County. She was a homemaker and a member of Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband, John Edd Smith, preceded her in death on December 18, 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Ray Smith and wife Wilma and Troy Smith and wife Virginia, both of Huntingdon; five grandchildren, Jan Kizer of Huntingdon, Brent Smith of Camden, Laurie Horton of Jackson, Eddie Smith of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Patrick Smith of Huntingdon; seven grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Novie Marie Mann
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Novie Marie Mann, 92, died Tuesday, January 8 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 11 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment icon followed at Sellers Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Mann was born December 23, 1909 in Carroll County to the late Caleb and Sarah Simpson Roark. She was a retired employee for Publix Shirt Corp. and a member of the Huntingdon Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband Newt Mann, Sr. and one son, James Marvin Mann.
Survivors include one son, Newt Mann, Jr. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two sisters, Corine Carnal and Addie Scott, both of Huntingdon; one brother, Audrain Roark of Nashville; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Helen Williams McGinnis
HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Helen Williams McGinnis, 83, died Thursday, January 10 at the Oak Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 12 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mickey Carpenter officiating. Interment icon followed at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. McGinnis was born November 12, 1918 in Carroll County to the late Nathan and Ora Black Williams. She was a retired secretary for the Bank of Huntingdon and a member of the First Methodist Church in Huntingdon.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Roy McGinnis; one daughter, Carol Ann Fisher of St. Petersburg, Florida and one brother, Howard Williams of Huntingdon.

J. T. "Bill Horn
HUNTINGDON - Mr. J. T. "Bill" Horn, 74, died Sunday, January 13 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, January 15 at New Hope cemetery in Yuma with Brother J. D. Abbott officiating.
Mr. Horn was born December 5, 1927 in Carroll County to the late Buford and Lillie Segraves Horn. He was a farmer.
Survivors include five sisters, Marie Merrick of Cedar Grove, Christine Jennings of Dallas, Georgia, Dorothy Ellis of Clarksburg, Maxine Cary and Lillie Kirby, both of Huntingdon and one brother, Tom Horn of Huntingdon.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Charles Wesley Brinkley
McKENZIE - Services for Charles Wesley Brinkley, 91, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 16 at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Prince officiating. Burial will be in Everett's Chapel cemetery.
Rev. Brinkley, a retired Methodist minister for the Memphis Annual Conference, died Sunday, January 13 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
He was born December 6, 1910 in Plant City, Florida to the late Minnie Morse Brinkley and John Wesley Brinkley. He attended Community Grove United Methodist Church.
Rev. Brinkley left no survivors.

Lela Rosa Wilbanks
McKENZIE - Services for Lela Rosa Wilbanks, 94, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Campbell officiating. Burial was in Union Academy cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Wilbanks, a homemaker, died Sunday, January 13 at Huntingdon Health and Rehab Center.
She was born January 20, 1907 in Gibson county to the late Addie Leigh Woods Oliver and Lewis Oliver. She was a member of Union Academy Baptist Church
Survivors include two daughters, Katie Hill of McKenzie and Helen Newbill of Trezevant; a son, Otis C. Crocker of McKenzie; a sister, Kathlean Sellars of Milan; a brother, Clarence Oliver of Milan; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and twenty-seven great great-grandchildren.
Two husbands, Albert J. Crocker and Bud Wilbanks; two daughters, Lillie Pear Newbill and Brace Wallace and a son, Arthur Crocker, preceded her in death.

Wilbert Howard
TREZEVANT - Services for Wilbert Howard, 76, will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17 at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Ararat cemetery in Trezevant.
Mr. Howard, a retired truck driver, died Saturday, January 12 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Milton Howard; three daughters, Wilma Westbrooks of Columbia, Maryland, and Teresa Harrison and Dorothy Thomas, both of Jackson; four sons, Dwayne Paul Howard and Larry Milton, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Wilbert Lawrence Howard of Greenfield and John Stanley Howard of Trezevant; and a sister, Lou Ellen Adkisson.
Rawls Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
