Billy Wayne Rice

HOLLOW ROCK - Services for Billy Wayne Rice, 62, were conducted Thursday, May 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fait Baptist Church in Hollow Rock with Bro. Steve Davis and Bro. Donnie Craig officiating. Interment
was in the Prospect cemetery.
Mr. Rice died Tuesday, May 3, at his home.
He was born August 28, 1942, in Huntingdon. He was a retired yardmaster for CSX Railroad Company, a lifelong farmer and served on the Board of Directors of Carroll County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Prospect Baptist Church. He graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1960 and was elected All Conference Center his junior and senior years and All West Tennessee second team his senior year. He was preceded in death by his father, James Buron "Casey" Rice, and his stepfather, Lester Reed.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married
July 28, 1963, Lillian Cooper Rice; his mother, Louise Reed of Huntingdon; one daughter, Alicia Sills of Jackson; one son, Brent Rice (Carol) of Huntingdon; one brother, Ronnie (Nancy) Rice of Huntingdon; and six grandchildren: Emily Sills, Don Guinn, Andrew Sills, Ryan Guinn, Brad Sills and Peyton Sills.
Harbert Smith

HUNTINGDON - Services for Harbert Smith, 95, were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 9 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Martin Klamm and Brother Billy Ringold officiating.
Mr. Smith died Saturday, May 7, at Huntingdon Health & Rehab.
He was born September 4, 1909, to the late Robert "Bob" and Hattie Gardner Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Smith; one son, Billy Harbert Smith; and one grandson, Billy Mitchell. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Clarksburg Church of Christ.
Survivors include six daughters: Madlyn Bolen of Wildersville, Ella Rae Coleman, Jan Cozart and Gail Akins, all of McKenzie, and Ellen Wooley and Judy Parish, both of Huntingdon; two sons, Merel Smith and Phillip Smith, both of Huntingdon; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Lottie E. Parish

McKENZIE - Services for Lottie E. Parish, 85, will be Thursday, May 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Avenue Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Roberts officiating. Interment
will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at McKenzie Funeral Home Wednesday night from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service.
Mrs. Parish, a homemaker, died Monday, May 9, at McKenzie Healthcare Center. She was born October 16, 1919, in Westport, to the late James T. Haywood and Alice Kirksey Haywood. She was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ. She was the widow of Elmer G. Parish.
Survivors include two sons, Billy (Sandra) Parish of Memphis and Bobby (Brenda) Parish of Trezevant; three daughters, Ann (Bobby) Dinkins of McKenzie and Alice (Don) Cook of McKenzie and Patti (Denver) Smith of McAlister, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Fred C. Carnell
1917-2005
TREZEVANT - Services for Fred C. Carnell, 86, will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant with the Rev. Mike Ridgley and Bro. Malcolm Norton officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest cemetery in McKenzie. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until services.
Mr. Carnell, former co-owner of Carnell Grocery and retired mechanic from the Milan Arsenal, died Monday, May 9, at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
He was born September 29, 1917, in Harden, Kentucky, to the late Dr. F.C. Carnell and Laura Matthew Carnell. He was a member of Trezevant Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Taylor Carnell; a son Charles (Joan) Carnell of Collierville; two daughters, Emily (Mitch) Garmany of McLemoresville, and Vicki (Gary) Mitchell of Corinth, Mississippi; a nephew, Steve Bray of Mobile, Alabama; a niece, Nancy Johnson of Paducah, Kentucky; six grandchildren: Gina (David) Scott, Lisa Carnell, Greg Garmany, Sally (Mark) Arnold, Amanda Mitchell and Jake Mitchell; and five great-grandchildren: April Carnell, Matt Carnell, Christy Scott, Kelly Scott and Alex Arnold.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lela Johnston and Lily Bray.
Thomas Little Harder

TREZEVANT - Services for Thomas Little Harder, 72, were at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Malcolm Norton officiating. Burial was in Trezevant cemetery.
Mr. Harder died Saturday, July 20 at Life Care Center in Bruceton.
He was born September 15, 1929 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Elsie Pauline Argo and Thomas Bailey Harder. He was a member of First Baptist Church in California, an air force veteran and worked for the U.S. Postal service for 17 years.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline Harder; two daughters, Robin C. Davis and Kathy Wafford, both of Madera, California; three sons, Thomas T. Harder of Fresno, California, Jerry A. Harder of Selma, California and Chris A. Davis of Bandera, Texas; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Lisa Ann Turner

CAMDEN - Lisa Ann Turner, 41, died Sunday, April 23, at Camden General Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home with L. C. Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Point cemetery.
She was born December 30, 1964, in Camden, to Joe Dale Smith and the late Betty Ann Weatherly Turner. She was a homemaker and attended Westside General Baptist Church.
She is survived by her step-mother, Carol Smith of Martin and two daughters, Mandy Turner and Sherri Turner, of Bruceton; one sister, Julie Whittaker; one brother, Joe D. Smith, both of Martin; one grandchild; three nieces; and one nephew.
Beverly Stewart Burns

McLEMORESVILLE - Beverly Stewart Burns, 67, died Tuesday, April 18, at her residence. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 20, at Bodkin Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Barger officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Burns, a former employee of Inter Automotive, was a member of Cool Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Burns; her parents, Lawson Edward and Louise Butler Stewart; and a brother, Ronald Edward Stewart.
Survivors include one son, Brandon Stuart Johns (Marsha) of Huntingdon; three daughters, Teresa Ann (Steve) McConnell and Sherry Regina (Lacy) Cockrill, both of Huntingdon, and Rhonda Kathryn (Mark) Massey of Rockwood, Tennessee; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Webb

HOLLOW ROCK - Mrs. Mary Webb, age 77, of Hollow Rock died Wednesday, April 19, at Life Care in Bruceton. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 25, at Bruceton Funeral Home.
She was born March 13, 1929, in McKenzie, to the late Horace Preston Daily and Georgia Evelyn Smith Daily. She was the first nurse hired at Life Care in Bruceton. Survivors include: a son, Danny Brian Webb of Hollow Rock; and a brother, Carl Preston Daily of Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Andrew "Andy" Webb.
Walter Verdell Russell

SPRINGVILLE - Walter Verdell Russell, age 86, of Springville, formerly of Jackson, died Saturday, April 22, at his residence. Services were held Monday, April 24, in the chapel at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Corey Meggs officiating. Burial followed in Mount Olivet cemetery, McKenzie with full military honors.
Mr. Russell was born March 10, 1920, in Carroll County, to Lapha Franklin Russell and Claris Mucie Russell, both deceased. A Christian and member of Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Paris, he retired from Malone & Hyde after 40 years as dispatcher. He was a World War II Army veteran, 8th Division, 121st Infantry, 2nd Battalion Company C ( The" Grey Bonnet" Regiment) from 1941-1945. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, was in multiple battles including the Battle of Bulge.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ethel E. Owens Russell. He is survived by: two children, one son, Larry Russell and one daughter, Diane McDowell and husband, Bob, all of Springville; four grandchildren- Dean Russell and wife, Carrie of Friendship, Denise Jackson and husband, Thames of Nashville, Shanna Howell and husband, Brian of Enville and Chad Black and wife, Angie of Paris; four great-grandchildren- Brittany Russell of Camden, Nolan and Lee Russell of Friendship and Connor Jackson of Nashville; four sisters- Margie Pate, Sylvia Cox and Betty Anderson, all of McKenzie and Regina Taylor of Nashville. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Traynor Russell, J.C. Russell and Lloyd Russell, all in infancy; Virgil Dempsey Russell and Bobby Joe Russell of Springville; and three sisters, Gayron Sue Russell, in infancy and Leola Taylor and Marie Simpson of McKenzie. McKENZIE - Murrell Featherstone Penick, age 93, of McKenzie died April 21, 2006 at McKenzie Health Care Center. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 23 at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie. Brother Harrell Nation offered the eulogy. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, McKenzie.
She was born December 13, 1912 in Como, Tennessee to J.D. Featherstone and Lena Stoker Featherstone, both deceased. She was a retired dress shop owner and a member of First United Methodist Church, McKenzie. She is survived by one sister, Ann F. Harris of Hendersonville, Tenn. Preceding her in death were: her parents, J.D. and Lena Stoker Featherstone; step-mother, Otis Taylor Featherstone; a brother, Graden Featherstone; and a sister, Lozette F. Burrow.
Stephen Crocker

McKENZIE - Stephen Kelly Crocker, age 35, of Sugar Tree, formerly of McLemoresville, died April 19, at Decatur County Hospital in Parsons. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22, at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant. Brother Kevin Gallimore offered the eulogy. Burial followed in Trezevant cemetery.
He was born June 9, 1970, in Milan, to Randall and Joyce Kelly Crocker of McLemoresville. He was a 1988 graduate of West Carroll High School and attended UT-Martin. He was a member of McLemoresville Baptist Church Survivors include: his parents, Randall and Joyce Crocker; grandparents, Troy and Mildred Kelly of McLemoresville; a brother, David Michael (Cheryl) Crocker of Paducah; two nephews, Brady Crocker and Cullen Crocker. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Fred Crocker and Christie Butler.
Thelma Kee Cox

McKENZIE - Thelma Kee Cox, age 98, of McKenzie, died April 18, at McKenzie Healthcare Center. Funeral services were Friday, April 21, at McKenzie Church of Christ. Burial followed in Carroll Memorial Gardens, McKenzie. Brummitt Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cox was born January 14, 1908, in Carroll County. She was a retired school teacher and member of McKenzie Church of Christ. She attended West Tennessee State Teacher's College (later known as Memphis State), where she received a four-year teaching certificate and she eventually earned her bachelor's degree from Bethel College in 1950. She began her teaching career in 1926 at a country school called Argo. She married
Otis Cox in 1930 and they lived in Clarksburg before moving to McKenzie in 1937. She resumed her teaching career in McKenzie, where she taught for 26 years before retiring.
She lived in McKenzie until 2001 when she moved to Hickory Woods Retirement Center in Murray, Kentucky. Just last October, she moved back to McKenzie and was residing at McKenzie Health Care Center at the time her death. She was an accomplished pianist and avid reader. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Cox, a retired school agriculture teacher, principal, and county school superintendent; one daughter, JoAn Cox Mieure; two brothers, Ben Kee, Jr, and Ray Kee and one grandson, William Barry Mieure.
She is survived by one son, William (Bill) Cox and wife Eve of Columbus, Ohio; four granddaughters, Nancy Mieure of Hazel, Kentucky; Susan Wallace of Bolingbrook, Illinois; Jan Mieure of Aurora, Illinois and Penny Budinsky and husband Chris of Cordova; one grandson, Jim Cox and wife, Treacy of Columbus, Ohio; ten great-grandchildren; Logan and Eric Wallace; Jason, Sean, Jessica, Rebecca, Rachel, and Joseph Budinsky; and Maria and Jamie Cox; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Anita Newport Huffman

PADUCAH, KENTUCKY - Anita Newport Huffman, 92, died Friday, April 14, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 18, at Mt. Olivet cemetery, McKenzie. Rev. Dennis Trull officiated the service. Brummitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Huffman, a homemaker, was born in Memphis on February 20, 1914, to the late W.E. Newport and Ida Lee Roberts. She lived most of her life in Paducah, Kentucky and was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Paducah. She was a 38 year volunteer with the Western Baptist Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Newport of Memphis; a nephew William Lamar Newport and wife Sara of Brentwood; a great niece Stephanie A.N. Karafilis, husband Mike and daughter Isabella of Los Angeles, California; and a great nephew, John-Paul Lamar Newport, M.D. of Lexington, Kentucky; two nieces, three great-nieces, four nephews, and a host of loving friends.
