RINGGOLD — Margaret Imogene “Jean” Pierce, 73, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Purrington officiating.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
Douglas Shoemaker
DALTON — Douglas McArthur Shoemaker, 65, passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2007.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday from Community Fellowship Church with the Rev. Jimmy Ingram officiating.
Interment will be in Hopewell Church cemetery.
Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Home, Dalton.
Raymond Rector
BRIDGEPORT — Raymond “Dick” Rector, 72, passed away at his home Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2007.
Dick served in the U.S. Army and retired after 28 years with Sears. He and his wife ran the downtown Bridgeport Minute Market for six years and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He enjoyed conversation with friends and family and working in his workshop.
Mr. Rector was preceded in death by his parents, James Samuel and Ethel McBee Rector, and brothers, David and James E. Rector.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn McCarver Rector; children, Donna (Russell) Lee, of Bridgeport, Carol (Jay) Totton, of Kimball, Tenn., and Barry Rector, of Bridgeport; grandchildren and spouses, Jessica Lee (Paul) Hutchings, Robert (Stacey) Lee, Jonathan Haskew, Blake Totton and Cody Rector; great-grandchild, Kate Lee; sisters, Louise Payne, of Tiftonia, Shirley Hibbs and Faye Calhoun, both of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; brothers, Roy Rector, of Spring City, Tenn., Douglas Rector, of Soddy-Daisy, and Calvin Rector, of Powells Crossroads; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
The funeral will be Thursday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. CDT at the funeral home chapel.
Interment with military honors will be at St. Bonnie Venture cemetery in Bridgeport.
Visitation is today from 5 to 9 CDT at Rudder Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Mary Martin
MISSION, Texas — Mary Margaret Shepherd Martin died at her home Monday, Oct. 22, 2007.
She was born on Nov. 17, 1921, in Chattanooga to Margaret Donelson Shepherd and Percy B. Shepherd.
Mary graduated from Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, La., where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
She married
Dr. J.C. Martin on Feb. 15, 1945, and they moved to Mission in 1948, where he established a medical practice and they raised their family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 1984. Mary was a gifted pianist and astute businesswoman. She spent many happy years at their home away from home at South Padre Island, and loved to fish and watch the wildlife, especially her white pelicans. Mary was a member of the Mission Junior Service League, volunteered as a Brownie Scout Leader, and was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Mission.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Medardo De Leon Jr., of Mission, and her son, Stephen Martin, of Austin, Texas. Mary also is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Alana De Leon, and her fiancé, Brandon Lott, both of Los Angeles, Calif. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, sister - in - law sisterin-law, Mary Ellen (Ray) Martin French, of Baytown, Texas; nieces, JoAnne (Leroy) Taylor, of Houston, and Mary Ann (Ernie) Horter, of Fort Worth; a nephew, Jimmy and Denis French, of Houston; and a grandniece, Kelsey Horter, of Fort Worth.
A very special thank you goes to Dr. Charles Austin for his kindness and support during her illness.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 1102 Ash, Mission, on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Don Owens officiating.
There will be a private family burial at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Agape Christian School or Gladys Porter Zoo.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.

James Anderson Jr., 56, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Patricia Baker
Patricia Lee Baker, 52, of Chattanooga, departed this life Sunday, May 13, 2007, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her father, Hurbert Kilgore; stepfather, John M. Hyde Jr.; brother, Robert Hyde; and mother, Betty Doss Kilgore Hyde.
She worked and was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe.
A special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for all there wonderful care and support.
Survivors include her spouse, Lester Lee Baker; children, Joseph Lee Baker and Jennifer Haswell, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Darlene Hurt, of Rock Spring, Ga., and Sherry Daniels, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Trevor, Payton and Addison; niece, Ericia Daniels; and nephew, Jonathan Hurt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, in the chapel with the Rev. David Sampson officiating.
Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.
Family will receive friends after 2 p.m. today and all day Wednesday.

LaGrande Bettis
LaGrande A. Bettis, 91, widow of Willis B. Bettis, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007.
The youngest of eight children and last surviving child of the late Renona and Ned Charles Agnew. She was born July 21, 1915, in Greensboro, Ala.
In her teens she moved to Chattanooga to live with a sister, the late Ollie Keith, to attend Howard School. She graduated and then married
Willis B. Bettis. She obtained her college and post graduate degrees from Tennessee State University.
Mrs. Bettis taught English and literature at Riverside High School and Chattanooga High School. She also taught at James A. Henry and Orchard Knob Elementary Schools.
After a successful career of teaching, she was the president of Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers Association for two terms. She also served a number of years as a communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
In 1996 she joined Orchard Knob Baptist Church and participated in Sunday school as a substitute teacher and became one of the mothers of the church. Mrs. Bettis was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Mrs. Bettis is survived by one daughter, Geraldine L. Bettis, and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at noon Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Orchard Knob Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold K. Lester officiating.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Orchard Knob Baptist Church Family Life Center.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at Orchard Knob Baptist Church.

Thomas Denmark
Thomas C. Denmark, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday morning, May 14, 2007, in a local nursing home.
He was retired as terminal manager from Citgo Oil Co. with 35 years of service.
Mr. Denmark was born in Crandall, Miss., the son of the late Thomas J. and Lila McRee Denmark. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the Army Combat Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Billie Jean Stokes Denmark, and a son, Michael Denmark. He had been a member of Brainerd Baptist Church since he came to Chattanooga in 1960.
Survivors include his son, Larry (Pat) Denmark; granddaughter, Tamara (Jeff) Lamont; two great grandsons, Joshua Lamont and Shane Lamont, all of Charlotte, N.C.; and one niece, Tommy McCarra, of La Place, La.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Interment will be private for the family at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
