Ramelle Cross Darnall

HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Ramelle Cross Darnall, 89, died on Sunday, October 13 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Bill Goodpasture officiating. Interment icon will follow at Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Darnall was born January 9, 1913 in Westport to the late Daniel Forrest and Mary Steele Cross. She was a retired schoolteacher for the Huntingdon Special School District and a member of Huntingdon Church of Christ. Her husband, Wallace William Darnall, who passed away on October 1, 1972, three brothers, Landrum Cross, Harold Norman Cross and Edward Cross and one sister, Virginia Cross all preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Marrison of Huntingdon and Mary Belle Pitts of Knoxville; one brother, Alton Cross of Westport; two sisters, Margaret Cloud of Nashville and Rose Helen McKnight of Berea, Kentucky; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Walter Ditmore Ethridge
1952-2002
McKENZIE - Services for Walter Ditmore Ethridge, 50, were at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13 at Gallimore Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Simmons officiating. Burial was in the Tumbling Creek cemetery.
Mr. Ethridge died on Thursday, October 10 at Henry County Medical Center.
He was born April 3, 1952 in Newbern to the late Walter and Queen Ester Miller Ethridge.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Farmer Ethridge; two daughters, Melinda Taylor of New Caney, Texas and Amanda Ethridge of McKenzie; one stepdaughter, Vicki Mileski of Gleason; two sons, Stanley Ethridge and Steven Ethridge, both of Newbern; two stepsons, Richard Smith of Springville and Clint Smith of McKenzie; a brother, Dwayne Ethridge of Cottage Grove and a half-brother, Murray McFarland of Paris and 11 grandchildren.

Robert Stanley Cole
1928-2002
BRUCETON - Services for Robert Stanley Cole, 73, were held on Thursday, October 10 at Bruceton Funeral Home with the Rev. Arzell Douglas officiating. Burial was in Prospect cemetery in Hollow Rock.
Mr. Cole, a retired boiler room operator for DuPont, died on Tuesday, October 8 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was born in Benton County on October 15, 1928 to the late William Rice Cole and Cora Ethel Park Cole. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Camden, a former alderman for the Town of Bruceton, a Korean Conflict veteran and a member of the Hollow Rock VFW Post #4349.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Taylor Cole; two daughters, Janet Higdon of Old Hickory and Susan Cole of Bruceton; a son, Robert Cole of Bruceton; three sisters, Mildred Berry of Camden, Agness Kee of Erin, and Lillian Luther of Camden; a brother, O'Neal Cole of Bruceton and four grandchildren, Bruce, Bradley, Chris and Jessie.

Bonnie Kay Foster
1941-2002
McKENZIE - Services for Bonnie Kay Foster, 60, were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 13 at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie with Bro. Fred Morris officiating. Burial was in Enon cemetery.
Mrs. Foster died on Friday, October 11 at Methodist Hospital in McKenzie.
She was born November 29, 1941. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Her father Robert Crocker preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Foster; her mother, Gladys Penney of McKenzie Crocker; two daughters, Tiesia Dowland of Trezevant and Tammy Foster of McKenzie; one brother, Ray Crocker of McKenzie and one grandchild.

Susie Dove George
1905-2002
AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA: Funeral services for Mrs. Susie Dove George were held on Monday, October 14, at 3:00 p.m. at George Funeral Homes in Aiken, South Carolina with Mark Hudson officiating. Interment icon was in Sunset Memory Gardens in Graniteville, South Carolina. Mrs. George, 97, died on Friday evening, October 11 at her residence.
Born in Graves County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Franklin Dove and the late Alice Mungle Dove, she retired from a shirt factory in Huntingdon where she worked in the sewing room and was also a former union representative. Mrs. George came to Aiken 25 years ago from Huntingdon and was a member of the Aiken Church of Christ and Pairs and Spares.
Survivors include a daughter, Julia Cobb Herndon of Aiken; a stepdaughter, Virginia Stevens of New Orleans, Louisiana; a sister, Patsy Dove Pierce of Jackson; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two great-great-grandchildren.
The oldest of nine children, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters Henry Cavender, Lexie Dove, Holley Dove, Junior Dove and Thennie Cavender.

Brooxie Ann Burke Connell
1917-2003
McKENZIE - Services for Brooxie Ann Burke Connell, 85, were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 17 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Edwards officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery in McKenzie.
Mrs. Connell, a homemaker, died on Friday, February 14 at Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon.
She was born March 30, 1917 in McKenzie to the late Della Barton Burke and Pratt Burke. She was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ. Her husband, Ralph Connell, a brother, William Burke and a grandson, John Beecham also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Beecham of Naperville, Illinois; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leon Marshall Kirksey
1914-2003
HUNTINGDON - Leon Marshall Kirksey, 88, died peacefully at his Huntingdon home on Wednesday, February 19. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite Holladay Kirksey and four children, Gerald Kirksey of Nashville, Jimmie Kirksey of Charleston, West Virginia, Melinda Bowers of Knoxville and Sandra Allen of Memphis; one sister, Marie Washburn of McKenzie, and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Kirksey was born on May 15, 1914 in Carroll County to the late John Marshall and Viola Moore Kirksey. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Luther Kirksey and John Elbert Kirksey and two sisters, Maxine Cary and Nell Pate.
Mr. Kirksey had a long career in the construction industry and supervised the construction of many commercial and industrial projects in West Tennessee. He was a past District Governor of Ruritan National and a member of Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.
A celebration of the life of Leon Kirksey was held at Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21 with burial in New Hope cemetery. Reverend Lynn Stapleton and Reverend Kenneth Massey officiated. Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte 'Charlie' Marie Murphy Drinkard
1959-2003
BRUCETON - Mrs. Charlotte 'Charlie' Marie Murphy Drinkard, 43, died on Thursday, February 20 at her home. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, February 23 in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Columbus and Brother Scott Carter officiating. Interment icon followed at Hebron cemetery.
Mrs. Drinkard was born on February 28, 1959 in Carroll County to the late Wesley and Bobbie Jean Brasfield Murphy. She was a homemaker and attended the New Crossroads Baptist Church and the First Pentecostal Church. She graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1978.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Malcolm Wayne Drinkard, her mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Malcolm Drinkard, and two stepsisters, Sue Potts and Brooxie Davis, both of Huntingdon.

Mary P. Hendrix
1927-2003
LEXINGTON - Mrs. Mary P. Hendrix, 75, died on Thursday, February 20 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Paul Merwin officiating. Interment icon followed in the McAuley cemetery.
Mrs. Hendrix was born on December 25, 1927 in Carroll County to the late William Clayborn and Corene Worrells Johnson. She was a retired employee of Publix Shirt Corp. and a member of the First Baptist Church. Her husband, Lee Hendrix, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie Hendrix of Paris; two daughters, Joy Anderson of Lexington and Jennifer Espey of Huntingdon; one sister, Ruth Anderson of McKenzie, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Harold Dwayne Stevens
1936-2003
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Harold Dwayne Stevens, 66, died on Thursday, February 20 at his home. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darren Larkins officiating. Interment icon followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stevens was born on September 12. 1936 in Virginia. He was a retired salvage repairman for Ford Motor Company. His father, Hollis Stevens, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Sue Stevens, his mother, Rachel Stevens of Virginia; one daughter, Tamara Woodby of Whitehouse; one son, Phillip Stevens of Huntingdon; one brother, Henry Stevens of Indiana; six sisters, Kathleen French of Illinois, Dorothy Taylor, Sylvia Wolfe, Shirley Phillips, Blanche Chaffin, and Glenda Cromer, all of Virginia; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Ruby Marie Hintz
1934-2003
BRIDGEVIEW, ILLINOIS: Mrs. Ruby Marie Hintz, 68, died Friday, February 14 at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oaklawn, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, February 19 at 12:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Roger Ellis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hintz was born November 23, 1934 in Holladay. She was a machine operator for the Monsanto Company. Her father, Marvin Mitchell and one brother, Orville Mitchell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Hintz, her mother, Flora Mitchell of Buena Vista; one daughter, Deborah Gattone of Chicago, Illinois; three sons, Roger Ellis of Buena Vista, Edward Hintz of Colorado and Scott Hintz of Bridgeview, Illinois; five sisters, Neida Allen of Bruceton, Gladys Clark of McKenzie, Cathy Blazer of New Johnsonville, Ritha Williams and Flo Hargrove, both of Buena Vista; one brother, O'Neal Mitchell of Buena Vista; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Chase Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Vida R. McWherter
1912-2003
DRESDEN - Vida Rockett McWherter, 91, died on Tuesday, February 20 at Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden. Services were at 1:00 p.m., Sunday at Blooming Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Palmersville, where she was a member, with Herman Clarke officiating. Burial was in the Blooming Grove cemetery.
Born on February 14, 1912 in Dresden, she was a daughter of the late Will and Nedora Prince McGowan.
A homemaker, she was married to Johnnie Rockett, who died May 20, 1988. She later married Wilbert McWherter, who died May 19, 2000.
She leaves 110 living relatives. They include five daughters, Martha Carroll, Lill Parrott, Carolyn Moubray, Doris Powers and Norma Redden, all of Dresden; one son, Jerrell Rockett of Dresden; two sisters, Odie B. Garner and Georgie Campbell, both of Paris; twenty-five grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
A son, William Rockett; one sister, Opal McGowan and a brother, James Willie McGowan, all preceded her in death.

Thomas L. Matlock, Sr.
1928-2003
CAMDEN - Funeral services for Thomas L. Matlock, Sr., 73, formerly of McKenzie were held Monday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakdale Chapel in Camden with Bro. Bennie Akers officiating. Burial was in Eastview cemetery.
Mr. Matlock passed away Friday, February 14 at St. Thomas Hospital. He was born on May 26, 1928 in McKenzie to the late Vollie and Ollie Matlock. He was retired from maintenance.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Matlock of Camden; two daughters, Donna Spence and Sandra Blalock, both of Camden; two sons, Thomas L. Matlock, Jr. of Eva and Richard W. Matlock of Camden; two brothers, John William Matlock of Moncks Corner, SC and Clifford Matlock of McKenzie; two sisters, Mina Lou Golden of Mississippi and Stella Lois Matlock of Memphis, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
