LEXINGTON - Jesse Ray Ross, 78, died Monday, January 2, in Nashville. Services were conducted Thursday, January 5, at First Baptist Church in Lexington with Dr. Hoyt Wilson, Dr. Mike Adams, and Bro. Richard Savage officiating. Burial followed in Lexington cemetery. Pafford Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ross was born July 16, 1927, in Huntingdon, to the late Cauley and Effie Kelley Ross. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a retired transportation manager for H.I.S. in Bruceton, a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington, and a former Lions Club member and Mason in Bruceton.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Guy, Raymond, and Carl Ross; and two sisters, Charlene Tucker and Marilyn Ross.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Marie Ross of Lexington; his daughter, Judy (Gary) Wilkinson of Lexington; a brother, Billy F. (Nelle) Ross of Nashville; two sisters, Bonnie Sue (Clayton) Davis of Shelimar, Florida, and Retha Edwards of Nashville; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Mamie Jo Pate
1933-2006
McKENZIE - Mamie Jo Pate, 72, died Monday, January 2, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Services were conducted Thursday, January 5, at Fairview Baptist Church. Interment
followed in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Bro. Tim Coleman officiated. McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pate was born May 8, 1933, in Atwood, to the late Clarence and Lizzie Hopper Dunlap. She was a minister's wife and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. James "Jimmy" Pate and her daughter, Demetra Ann Pate.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Pate of Springville and Danny Joe (Brenda) Pate of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; one sister, Carol Walker of Rutherford; four grandchildren; one special brother-in-law, Bobby Pate of McKenzie; and special sister-in-law, Helen Vick of Dyersburg.
Ruth Thedford Goodman
Ruth Thedford Goodman died Thursday, December 29, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 1, at Shelton Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Goodman, the daughter of the late William A. and Rena Gregory Thedford, was a retired employee of Gibson Electric Membership Corporation. She was a former McKenzie resident and remained a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McKenzie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Goodman, and her sister, Louise Thedford Ward.
Survivors include one son, Edward Lynn Goodman of Jackson; a brother, Robert Denney Thedford of McKenzie; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Johnnie Clayton Compton
1946-2003
MEMPHIS - Mr. Johnnie Clayton Compton, 57, died on Wednesday, December 17 at the Methodist South Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 20 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Huntingdon with Brother Fred Ward officiating. Interment
followed in the Chapel Hill cemetery.
Mr. Compton was born September 28, 1946 in Gibson County to the late James Milburn and Frances Swearingen Compton. He was a locomotive engineer for Canadian National Railroad, a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi, served in the United States Marines and was a Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 34 year, Pam Brewer Compton; a daughter, Kellie Elizabeth Compton and two sons, John Clinton Compton and William Corey Compton, all of Memphis; two sisters, Susan Compton-Crawford of New Castle, Pennsylvania and Kristie French of Huntingdon.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Ella Vonnell Davis

HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Ellis Vonnell Davis, 92, died on Wednesday, December 17 at the Life Care Center in Bruceton. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Wayne Holmes officiating. Interment
followed in the Davis Chapel cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was born July 24, 1911 in Carroll County to the late Sherman and Louetta Jamison Brandon. She was a homemaker and a member of the Davis Chapel United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Davis, who passed away on July 28, 2001 and two grandsons, Kent Davis and John Davis.
She is survived by three sons, Clayton Davis of Shalimar, Florida, Rayburn Davis of Huntingdon and Kenneth Davis, Jr. of Huntingdon; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Earl W. Hughes
1928-2003
McKENZIE - Services for Earl W. Hughes, 75, were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20 at Webb High School with the Rev. James Stewart officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Trinity Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hughes died on Monday, December 15 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.
He was born February 16, 1928 in McKenzie to the late Roger W. Hughes and Maudella Haynes Hughes. He was a member of the Johnson Temple C.M.E. Church. He was a graduate of Webb High School and an U.S. Army veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Williams of Memphis; a stepdaughter, Janice Hughton of Ealls Church, Virginia and a brother, Doc Hughes of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Floyd Nash

HUNTINGDON - Mrs. Floyd Nash, 103, passed away on Monday, December 15 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, December 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America with Rev. Albert Jarrett officiating. Interment
followed in the Humbles cemetery.
Mrs. Nash was born February 17, 1900 in Carroll County to the late Colie Williamson and Mattie Carter Utley. She was a housekeeper, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America. She was also preceded in death by her husband, R.D. Nash, who died in 1979; one daughter, Lillie M. Nash and one son, John D. Nash.
Survivors include two daughters, June Cozart of Huntingdon and Irene Fason of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sons, Otis Nash of Huntingdon, Robert Nash and James Nash of Dayton, Ohio; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-nine great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great-grandchildren.
Bonnie Mayreen Neighbors

Mrs. Neighbors, a retired Martin Manufacturing Co. employee died on Saturday, December 6 at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1905 in Gleason to the late Clerie and Rosa Page Maynard. She was a member of the Gleason Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Hearn of Lansing, Illinois; two sisters, Mamie Sue Shaw and Dell Taylor, both of Gleason; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dee Neighbors and two daughters, Louise Thomas and Pauline Parks.
Thomas Edgar Nelson

HUNTINGDON - Mr. Thomas Edgar Nelson, 84, died on Tuesday, December 16 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, December 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Carter officiating. Interment
followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Nelson was born June 3, 1919 in Pitt County, North Carolina to the late Ira Elbert and Sarah Fanie Whitehurst Nelson. He was a retired employee of the West Tennessee Public Utility District, a member of the New Crossroads Baptist Church and a retired Master Sergeant with 20 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Nelson, who passed away in 1990.
He is survived by brother, Ray Nelson of Stokes, North Carolina.
Nola Mae Price

McKENZIE - Services for Nola Mae Price, 88, will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 24 at Brummitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest cemetery in Christmasville.
Mrs. Price, a retired teacher and homemaker, died on Saturday, December 20 at McKenzie Health Care Center.
She was born September 11, 1915 in Redford, Missouri to the late Cora Loness and Henry Frank Helvey. She was a member of the Waverly Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, LeRoy Price and Bill Price, both of Globe, Arizona; a daughter, JoAnn Ownby of McKenzie; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Otto Price.
Oneita Price

Mrs. Price was born September 12, 1923 in Obion County to the late Ernest and Mary Tittsworth Warford. She was a retired schoolteacher for the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Special School District. She was preceded in death by a brother, Owen William Warford.
She is survived by a brother, T.A. Warford of Kentucky.

Larue Lowrance Robinson

Mrs. Robinson, retired owner/manager of Robinson Insurance Agency, died Sunday, December 14, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home in Maryville.
She was born September 1, 1911 to the late Clyde H. and Ocia Lindsey Lowrance. She was a member of the Bruceton First Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher there for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha Zabetakis of Sanford, Connecticut; a son, Hal Robinson of Maryville; two sisters, Peggy Lindaman of Nashville and Celene Butler of Jackson; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wade Robinson.
