Alec Leo Shaver
Funeral services for Mr. Alec Leo Shaver, 79, were 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. Roy West officiating. Interment
followed in Union cemetery.
Mr. Shaver of Dickson was born in Dickson County May 4, 1925. He died Thursday, July 22, 2004 at his residence.
He was a retired security officer with Gaylord Entertainment. He was co-owner of Piccadilly Restaurant in Dickson. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a country music enthusiast. He retired from the state of Tennessee in the maintenance department and was later employed by Gaylord Entertainment as a Ryman Auditorium security officer.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Shaver-Long and husband, Mark Long of Dickson; stepdaughter, Martha Williams of Centerville; stepsons, Donald DeVandry and wife, Freida of Dickson and Gene “Perky” DeVandry and wife, Becky of Talladega, Ala.; niece, Sharon Maples of Dickson; nephew, Jim Shaver of Dickson; sister-in-law, Mildred Shaver of Dickson; and granddaughter, Allison Elise Long.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alec and Maggie Burgess Shaver.
Memorials can be made to the Dickson County Public Library or Charlotte Elementary School.
Patricia Corlew
Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia Ann “Pat” Corlew, 71, will be held Friday, July 23, 2004 at 11 a.m. from Charlotte-Fagan United Methodist Church, with Rev. Melisa Derseweh officiating. Interment
will follow in Dickson Union cemetery. Service is under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.
Mrs. Corlew was born in Dickson County and was the daughter of the late Lewis Walker and Thelma Lee Sugg Roth. She died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was archivist for Dickson County and a member of Charlotte-Fagan United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis Hodges of Cumberland Furnace and Belinda Donaldson of Charlotte; sister, Martha Runions of New Johnsonville; brother, Billy Roth of Decatur, Ala.; grandchildren, Seth Shafer of Austin, Texas, Phillip Hodges of Dickson and Elizabeth Hodges of Knoxville.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Carl Parks Corlew; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Davis.
Memorials may be made to the Charlotte-Fagan United Methodist Church.
Her remains will lie in state at the Charlotte-Fagan United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. Friday until time of service.
Christy Jo Dedman
Funeral services for Miss Christy Jo Dedman, 34, are 3 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Brother Bill McDonald officiating. Interment
will follow in Memory Gardens in Hickman County.
Miss Dedman, a patrol officer with the Metro Police Department, died July 19, 2004 in Nashville. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Austin Peay State University and was working on her master’s degree at Middle Tennessee State University.
Survivors include her parents, Jesse James and Vera Tidwell Dedman of Bon Aqua; brother, Curtis Dedman of Nashville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Louise Gentry
Graveside services for Louise A. Gentry, 91, were 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Gentry cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Taylor Funeral Home.
Ms. Gentry, born in the Eastside community in Dickson County to Oscar Clarence (O.C.) and Cilla Shelton Gentry, died July 19, 2004 at National Health Care Center in Dickson. She was a machine operator with the former Red Kap Garment Company in Dickson. She was a member of Burns Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sisters, Pearl Gentry Johnson, Eddie Gentry Willey and Dorothy Gentry Thomas, all of White Bluff; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and one great-great nephew.
Louis “Glen” Hensler
A funeral mass for Mr. Louis “Glen” Hensler, 72, was 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004 from St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Dickson with Father Stephen Gideon officiating. His remains were cremated. Arrangements were handled by Taylor Funeral Home.
Mr. Hensler, born in Hamilton, Ohio, died July 19, 2004 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was a retired motel manager. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Dickson.
Survivors include sons, Derick Hensler of Pensacola, Fla., and John Patrick Hensler of Lyles; daughter, Deborah (Dee) Hymel of Morgan City, La.; mother, Hilda Hensler of Hamilton, Ohio; and grandchildren, David Hymel, Amanda Hensler and Erin Hymel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose L. Miller; and father, John N. Hensler.
William Martin Spicer
Funeral services for Mr. William Martin Spicer, 89, were 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson with Dr. B. Carter Elmore officiating. Interment
followed in Dickson Union cemetery.
Mr. Spicer, born in Dickson County to George Washington and Mable Martin Spicer, died July 19, 2004 in Dickson County Nursing Home. He was a retired welder. He was a member of Pomona Baptist Church and the VFW.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Zell Rogers Spicer of Dickson; sisters, Nancy Martin of McEwen and Aline Kerr of White Bluff; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Bernard Spicer in 1949.
Mabel Dotson

Mrs. Dotson of Dickson died Sunday, July 18, 2004 in Waverly. Mrs. Dotson worked as a cook at Kuhns 5 & 10 Store for many years.
Survivors include her son, Donald Parchman and wife, Sybil of Dickson; stepson, Herschel Dotson and wife, Norma of White Bluff; daughters, Evelyn Street and husband, Leon of Dickson and Geneva Sensing and husband, Howard of Burns; stepdaughter, Opal Street and husband, Neil of Dickson; brother, Holland Choate of Dickson; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great grandchildren.
Shelly Renee Hand

Mrs. Hand of Dickson was born Dec. 26, 1963 in Dickson. She died July 18, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Hand Jr. of Dickson; sons, Andrew and Joshua Hand, both of Dickson; daughter, Tabitha Hand of Dickson; mother, Frances E. Wilson of Dickson; brothers, Gary Wilson and wife, Judy of Dickson and Edmond Wilson and wife, Vicky of White Bluff; and sister, Joyce Walton of White Bluff.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Wilson.
Charlie Milan

Mr. Milan, assistant director of human resources for Clarksville/Montgomery County schools, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. He was born May 29, 1950 in Christian County, Ky. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, NAACP, Nation Urban League and the Civitan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Reddon Milan of Dickson; son, Christopher Thomas Milan of Clarksville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Edmonds Milan.
Charlie Howard Rayburn

Mr. Rayburn of Cunningham was born March 15, 1923 in Dickson County. He died July 16, 2004 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. He was retired from Schrader Automotive. He was a member of Soules Chapel Methodist Church for 52 years and served as a trustee of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Davis Rayburn of Cunningham; daughters, Wanda Moseley and husband, Jackie of Cumberland Furnace and Darlene Green and husband, Bruce of Cunningham; brother, Johnny Rayburn of Denton, N.C.; sister, Judy Light of Waverly; grandchildren, Chris Green and wife, Cherie, Asheley Moseley and Kim Moseley Martin and husband, Bobby; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Britany Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mandy Cunningham Rayburn; five brothers; and two sisters.
Carleton Winkle

Mr. Winkle of White Bluff was born in Allentown, Pa., May 8, 1919. He died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center. He was a retired transportation worker and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1941-1944.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Artie Lavane F. Winkle of White Bluff; stepsons, Ernest Forrest and wife, Darlene of White Bluff, Eddie Forrest and wife, Debbie of White Bluff and Sam Porterfield of New Orleans, La.; daughters, Judy Winkle of New Orleans, La., and Tracie Meadows and husband, Hiram of North Carolina; sister, Doris Lobach of Allentown, Pa.; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, a brother and a sister.
Dossie Berryman

Mr. Berryman of Dickson was born Dec. 24, 1938 in Dickson. He died Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center.
Survivors include his brother, Thomas W. Berryman of Charlotte; and sisters, Evelyn B. Lyda of Old Hickory and Barbara B. Burgess of Hermitage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Annie Armstrong Berryman.
