Sara Bruce Fuqua
Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Bruce Fuqua, 76, were 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn. Brother Randy Hagler officiated. Burial followed in Fuqua cemetery.
Mrs. Fuqua died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center, in Dickson. A native of Hickman County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Louella Adcock Bruce. Her husband, Johnny Fuqua, a brother, Charles Bruce, and a sister, Mary Edna Bleving, also preceded her in death. She was a retired dietary worker with the former Green Valley Nursing Home and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include son, John Fuqua, of Paso Robles, Calif.; two daughters, Carolyn Sullivan and her husband, Glen, Vicki Burgess and her husband, Jerry, all of Dickson; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jerry Pokorny
Memorial service for Mr. Jerry Pokorny, 90, was 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn. His remains were cremated. Private interment
of his remains will be in the family cemetery.
Mr. Pokorny, a native of Chicago, Ill., son of the late Frank and Marie Lukee Pokorny, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 in Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tenn. He was a retired wireman/foreman with Western Electric.
Survivors include wife, Evelyn Mikulecky Fiala Pokorny of Dickson, Tenn.; son, Thomas Alan Fiala and his wife, Elizabeth, of Dickson, Tenn.; brother, George Pokorny of West Allis, Wis.; grandson, David Fiala of Dickson.
Mildred Coleman Shunk
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Coleman Shunk, 87, are Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Dickson, Tenn. Reverend Roy West and Rev. Phil Ross will officiate. Burial follows in McEwen cemetery.
Mrs. Shunk died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Western Wake Hospital, in Cary, N.C. A native of Humphreys County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. John Edgar Coleman and Eva Estelle Gunn Coleman. Her husband, V. Clare Shunk, brothers, John E. Coleman, Frank Coleman and Donald Coleman, and a sister, Helen M. Dillard, also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son, Howard Leroy Crist and his wife, Pat, of Apex, N.C.; daughter, Sharon Kay Avinger and her husband, Rev. Thomas Avinger, of Deland, Fla.; brother, Fred M. Coleman, of McEwen, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth May Hill, also of McEwen, Shirley Ann Williams, of McEwen; five grandchildren, Howard Crist Jr., Evan Crist, Catherine Crist, Angel Lemay and April Mitchell Caisse; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles L. Tankersley
Funeral services for Mr. Charles L. Tankersley, 89, of Seymore, Ind., are 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 at Dickson Funeral Home. Burial follows in Hudgins cemetery.
Mr. Tankersley died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 in Seymore, Ind. A native of Crab Orchard, Ky., he was retired from the Reliance Electric Co., in Seymore. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the countries of India, China and Burma.
Survivors include sons, John W. Tankersley, and his wife, Reda, of Freetown, Ind., Morris E. Tankersley, of Seymore, David L. Tankersley, of El Paso, Texas., Jerry P. Tankersley, of Lexington, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Gotchie Jim Tummins
Funeral services for Mr. Gotchie Jim Tummins, 67, of Dickson, Tenn., were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at Spann Funeral Home in Dickson. Reverend John Gibbs and Rev. Jim Chatham officiated. Burial followed in Fews Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Tummins died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson. His grandson, Landon Tummins, a sister, Sue Tummins Jones and a nephew, Kevin Ray Jones, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife, Jo Ann Tummin, of Dickson; son, Johnny Tummins of Dickson; daughter, Ramona T. Pearl Turner
Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Turner, 80, of Lyles, Tenn., were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at McDonald Funeral Home in Centerville, Tenn. Burial followed in Memory Gardens cemetery in Centerville.
Mrs. Turner died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. A resident of Lyles, she was the daughter of the late Willie Oscar Brown and Eva Lena Allen. Her husband, William Dorris Turner, also preceded her in death. She was a business owner of Turner’s Grocery and a member of the Clearview Church of Christ.
Survivors include daughter, Carolyn Smith and her husband, Lonnie, of Manchester, Tenn.; brother, Henry Brown of Dickson, Tenn.; sisters, Beulah Brown, Bernice Johnson, both of Waverly, Tenn.; grandsons, Scott Smith and his wife, Brenda, of Lyles, Lonnie Smith III and his wife, Sandy, of Speedwell, Tenn.; granddaughter, Lynne Tritapoe and her husband, Jeff, of Lewisburg, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Will, Jessica, Alexis, Fleet, Olivia, Logan, Grace, Anna and Dallin; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Schuyler Joseph Charles Ford Benefield

William Howard Lankford

Mr. Lankford, a native of Dickson County, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 in St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. He was a retired inspector with Ford Glass and a deacon of First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Masonic Lodge #468.
Survivors include wife, Geneva Burgess Lankford of Dickson; daughter, Faye Coles and her husband, William Swaney, of Nashville; grandson, John William Coles II and his wife, Stephanie Campbell; great-grandchildren, Breadley Tanner Coles and Caroline Grace Coles, both of Brentwood, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odlie and Ruby Choate Lankford. Those desiring, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Frank Douglas Martin Sr.

follows in Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Mr. Martin, a native of Franklin, Tenn. and a retired supervisor with Nashville Wire, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 in Horizon Medical Center in Dickson.
He was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of Jehovah Witness Church.
Survivors include wife, Brenda Harris Martin of Dickson, Tenn.; sons, Frank Douglas Martin, Jr., of Spring Texas, Michael Reed Martin of Kirkwood, Penn., Noah Lawrence Martin of Fairview, Tenn., and Nathan Daniel Martin of Dickson, Tenn.; daughter LeAnn Martin Mock of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Doris Christine Martin Edwards of Pinewood, Tenn., Judy Martin Huling of Ochlockonee, Fla., Brenda Kay Martin Green of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Claudia Skelton
Funeral services for Mrs. Claudia Skelton, 72, of Fariview, Tenn., are 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at Old Path Baptist Church in Fairview. Pastor Thomas Sullivan will officiate.
Interment follows in New Hope cemetery. Arrangements were by Dickson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Skelton died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at Williamson Medical Center. A native of Davidson County, she was homemaker.

Ross Hudgins of Fairview, Randy Hudgins of Tallmadge, Ohio and Thomas Hudgins of Fairview; daughters, Linda Storey of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Earlaine Kelly of Nashville and Sandra Civils of Brentwood, Tenn.; sister, Mary Hale of Fairview; step-sons, Tommy Skelton and Greg Skelton, both of Fairview; step-daughters, Barbara McDonald and Carole Hadley, both of Fairview; 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Hattie May Hatfield Jones, and a sister, Gee Gee Holt of Wilmington, Del.
Dell Elizabeth Fuqua
Funeral services for Mrs. Dell Elizabeth Fuqua, 86, were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at Dickson Funeral Home with Bro. Warren Medley officiating.
Interment was in Fuqua cemetery on Coon Creek Road.
Mrs. Fuqua was born in Dickson County, Tenn., on Feb. 21, 1917. She was a homemaker. She died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at Horizon Medical Center.
Survivors include daughter Terry (Billy) Wynn of Dickson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tommie (Amoreena) Wynn, Travis Wynn, and Trina Pinnix, all of Dickson, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Bryce Pinnix, Destiny, Dylan and Mason Wynn, all of Dickson, Tenn.
Her husband, Edwin Fuqua, and her parents, John Henry and Etta Hassell, brothers, Mitchel and Carlton Hassell, preceded her in death.
Samuel Clay Nicks

was in Dickson Union cemetery.
Mr. Nicks, a 1942 Dickson High School graduate and owner of Nicks Hardware for 66 years, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 in Horizon Hospital.
He attended David Lipscomb College two years and graduated from Abliene Christian College in 1946 with a B.S. degree in business. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include wife, Earlene Turner Nicks of Dickson, Tenn.; son, Samuel Turner Nicks, also of Dickson, Tenn.; daughter, Margo Nicks Ashby and her husband, Tim Ashby, of Madisonville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Evan Ashby, Anthony Albert and Myrtice Fussell Nicks and a sister, Reba Nicks.
