Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Bell Martin, 80, of Woodbridge, Va., formerly of Dickson County, were Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home in Woodbridge, Va. with Rev. David Moshier officiating. Graveside services and interment
followed at 1 p.m. in Knoxville, Tenn. at Woodlawn cemetery. Funeral information was provided courtesy of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson.
Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. W. A. (Verble Ferguson) Bell. A native of Dickson County, she was a member of the Prince William County Senior Citizens Center and a member of the Mount Carmel Methodist Church in Clarksville, Tenn. She was the widow of the late Clinton O. Martin. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. W. A. Bell Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Albright and her husband, Stephen, of Woodbridge; her son, John Martin and his wife, Phyllis, of Strafford; and her grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew and Jennifer Martin, and Samantha, Jacalyn and Christopher Albright.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Potomac Hospital Foundation.
Sibyel Eugene Balazy
Funeral services for Mrs. Sibyel Balazy, 81, were 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn. Brother James L. Carrington officiated.
Interment followed in Fielder cemetery.
Mrs. Balazy, a native of Humphreys County, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 in National Health Care Center in Dickson, Tenn. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, Jimmie Wayne Fielder of Dickson, Tenn., Jackie Richard Fielder of Dickson, Tenn.; daughter Norma Jean Ducker of Dickson, Tenn.; brothers, Edward Wills of Charlotte, Tenn., Homer Wills, Hubert Wills and Donald Wills, all of Dickson, Tenn.; sisters, Wilma Cavender of Madison Heights, Mich., Evelyn McElhiney of Bruceton, Tenn., Annie Jean Ferebee of Dickson, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, Dillard and Alice Gray Wills, her son, Ronald Fielder, a brother, Fate Wills, and a sister, Lula Mai Gibbs, preceded her in death.
Leona D. Clifford
Funeral services for Mrs. Leona D. Clifford, 80, were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn.
Chaplain J. B. Smith officiated. Interment
was in Middle Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Pegram, Tenn.
Mrs. Clifford, a native of Maine, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 in Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tenn. She was a nurse’s aid. She was a United States Coast Guard veteran. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include daughters, Leanne Eaton of Dickson, Tenn., Sheree Connors of West Springfield, Mass.; sons, Dale Cosgrove of Westfield, Mass., Bill Cosgrove of Springfield, Mass., John Cosgrove of Agawam, Mass., Jim Cosgrove of Lake Placid, Fla.; sister, Priscilla Acheson of Lake Placid, Fla., 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald Clifford, and her mother, Beulah Johnson, preceded her in death.
Floyd Duke
Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Duke, 89, of Huntsville, Ala., formerly of Dickson, Tenn., were 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn.
Brother Clarence Deloach officiated. Interment
followed in Ebenezer cemetery in Humphreys County, Tenn.
Mr. Duke, a native of Dickson County, Tenn., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 in Lincoln Medical Center in Huntsville, Ala. He was chief of graphics engineering and modeling with NASA and a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include daughters, Delores Sharp of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Janelle Hayes of Falkville, Ala.; sons, Daniel H. Duke of Mobile, Ala. and James F. Duke of Huntsville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His wife, Martha Duke, and his parents, John Floyd and Isabelle Daniel Duke, preceded him in death.
Sue Elizabeth Mayes
Funeral services for Mrs. Sue Elizabeth Mayes, 76, of Franklin, Ky., were 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Greenlawn cemetery. Mrs. Mayes died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Britthaven Nursing Facility in Bowling Green, Ky.
A native of Dickson, Tenn., she was a sales clerk and a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church. She was the daughter of the late William Rocky and the late Clara Maude Locke Rocky. She was the wife of the late Clarence Vaughn Mayes Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Glenda Sue Myers and husband, James R., of Bowling Green, Ky., and Debbie Hoodenpyle and husband, Greg, of Madisonville, Ky.; grandsons, Jeremy and Russell Myers and Alex Hoodenpyle.
Flossie Bell Sanders Sweat
Funeral service for Mrs. Flossie Bell Sanders Sweat, 81, are noon Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tenn.
Reverend James Satterfield III and Rev. Tommy Horner will officiate. Interment
follows in East Dickson cemetery.

Mrs. Sweat, a native of Montgomery County, Tenn., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 in National Health Care Center in Dickson, Tenn. She was a cook and domestic worker. She was a member of Greater Faith Church in Dickson, Tenn.
Survivors include son, Cleveland Sanders of Dickson, Tenn.; stepsons, Clyde Sanders of Nashville, Tenn., and Walter Reed Sanders of California; step-daughter, Mary (Herbert) Wright of Dickson, Tenn.; brother, Eli Jackson of Dickson, Tenn.; sisters, Irene Springer and Althea Turner both of Dickson, Tenn.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her son, Jimmie Lee Sanders, her husbands, Jimmie Reed Sanders and Robert Lee Sweat, and her parents, Israel and Alice May Bell Holmes Jackson, a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation with the family is Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 from 11 a.m. until noon at Taylor Funeral Home.
Edward Joseph Fifth
Funeral services for Mr. Edward Joseph Fifth, 74, of Dickson, were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at McDonald Funeral Home, in Centerville, Tenn. Father Gideon officiated.
Mr. Fifth died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at National Health Care in Dickson. A native of Passaic, N.J., he was the son of the late Joseph George Fifth and Mary Komsa. His wife, Augusta Fifth, and a son, John Fifth, also preceded him in death. He was a machinist in manufacturing for Wheaton Plastics.
Survivors include sons, Edward Fifth of Toms River, N.J., Joe Fifth of Hamilton, N.J., Steve Fifth of Dickson, Tenn., Mike Fifth of Gibson, Pa., Jim Fifth of Elwood, N.J., David Fifth of Dickson, and Kenneth Fifth of Waverly, Tenn.; daughters, Kathy Pappas of Mays Landing, N.J., Linda Chappel of Dickson, Tenn., Christine Anthony of White Bluff, Tenn.; 30 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Curtis Wayne Garrett
Funeral services for Mr. Curtis Wayne Garrett, 58, of Charlotte, Tenn., are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home in Alexander City, Ala. Burial follows in Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Jackson’s Gap of Tallapoosa County, Ala.

Mr. Garrett died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. A native of Tallapoosa County, Ala., he was a construction worker with Alexander Metals in Nashville, Tenn. and attended the Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Ruby Lee Garrett of Charlotte; mother, Cloie Fay Lacy and her husband, H.V. Lacy, of Alexander City, Ala.; sister, Dorothy Garrett Werthan of Annett, Ala.; half-sister, Sybil Garrett of Montgomery, Ala.
Mr. Carney B. Nicks
Funeral services for Mr. Carney B. Nicks, 88, of Dickson, Tenn., were conducted Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Walnut Street Church of Christ with Bro. Clarence DeLoach, Bro. E. Winston Burton and Bro. Steve Baggett officiating.
Place of rest was at Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Those desiring, memorials may be made to the Walnut Street Church of Christ Building Fund or the charity of your choice. Arrangements handled by Taylor Funeral Home.
Mr. Nicks, one of the seven organizers and an original director of the Bank of Dickson, and served as President of the Bank of Dickson from 1958 until 1994 and was presently Chairman of the Board of Directors and Trust officer for the bank, died Saturday Nov. 15 in Baptist Hospital after a brief illness. A native of White Oak Flat Community of Dickson County he was the son of the late Buckner Clay and Katherine Lyle Nicks. His brother, Mr. James H. Hicks, preceded him in death. He graduated from Dickson High School in 1933 where he excelled in football and was President of his senior class. He attended David Lipscomb College for two years and graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1940. While working his way through college he taught school in the Dickson County School System at Old Oakmont School. Mr. Nicks served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and as a forward observer made landings in North Africa and Sicily, invaded Normandy on D-Day and participated in the war in the Pacific by landing on Okinawa. He was decorated with the Silver Star for his participation in the invasion of North Africa and was awarded the Bronze Star for his efforts in the invasion of Normandy. He was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Upon returning home from the service he was elected to two terms as Dickson County Court Clerk from 1946 until 1954. He was a long time member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ. He served on the Board of Directors of Goodlark Hospital, past President of the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce, served as secretary to the Dickson Industrial Trust. He was former Commander of the Lucien Berry American Legion Post #115, and served as a member of the Dickson Electric Power Board for over 26 years serving as Chairman from 1971 until his retirement in 1988.
Survivors include: wife of 57 years, Jane Reeves Nicks of Dickson, Tenn., sons, Tommy Nicks and his wife, Judy Ann of Dickson, Tenn., and William L. Nicks of Nashville, Tenn., four grandchildren, Patrick Reeves Nicks and his wife Amanda, Katherine Ann (Katy) Nicks, Courtney E. Nicks and William Reeves Nicks, great granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane (Ellie) Nicks, brothers, Mr. Robert L. (Bob) Nicks of Dickson, Tenn., and MR. Lyle M. Nicks of Bowling Green, Ky.
Elbert Leonard Ollis

followed in Hutton cemetery in White Bluff, Tenn.
Mr. Ollis, a native of East Tennessee, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 in Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was a member of Craggie Hope United Methodist Church. He was a farmer.
Survivors include step-grandson Lee Bell of Craggie Hope, Tenn. and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Betty Woods Ollis, and his parents, Robert Lee and Jeffie Large Ollis, preceded him in death.
Evelyn Pedigo
