Frances Marian "Peggy" Thompson

July 30, 1908 - October 22, 2008

Service was held:

Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.

Frances M. "Peggy" (Engle) Thompson, 100, longtime Sturgis area resident, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Visitation will be Monday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6 to 7:00 p.m. and will resume Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the First Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.
Peggy was born July 30, 1908, in Francisville, IN, to Robert R. and Margaret Malinda (McKinley) Engle. The family moved to the Black Hills around 1919 when her father remarried after the death of her mother. She resided at Piedmont, SD. Peggy worked for the Dr. Walsh family in Rapid City all through high school for room and board. They loved her so much that they helped her get her teaching degree. She taught in Arizona and California.
She married Clayton Thompson in Cheyenne, WY, on July 8, 1946. They made their home on the family ranch on Alkali Divide in western South Dakota until Clayton's death on September 7, 1971. After selling the ranch, Peggy made her home in Sturgis. She entered Sturgis Regional Senior Care in 2003.
Peggy was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She baked the communion bread for the church. She was a choir teacher for the First Presbyterian Church youth and the Sturgis Senior Center for many years. Peggy was a member of the Idle Hour Club, Daughters of the Nile, and Order of Eastern Star. She loved working with children of all ages. She helped the Meade County 4-H youth train for singing and performing skits and took many youth to the SD State Fair.
Peggy is survived by nephew, Donald (Nancy) Engle, Westlake, OH; nephew, Edward Thompson, Sturgis; niece, Nancy Harlan, Arlington, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, the Reggie Gingras family, Piedmont, Gwen Stensland, Spearfish, Jan Backes, Black Hawk, Gail (Duane) Sudman, Northfield, MN, and Audrey (Jim) Schroeder, Patricia (Jerry) Casteel, Linda (Dwayne) Burge, Sturgis, and Loretta (Jim) Mason, all of Sturgis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Thompson; her parents, Robert and Linny Engle; her brothers, Raymond and James Engle; one sister, Doris Engle Tully; and her cousin and sister-in-law, Lois Engle Thompson.
Memorials have been established to the Sturgis Public Library and to Meade County 4-H.

Adele E. Fischer

September 24, 1949 - October 20, 2008

Friday, October 24, 2008, at 10:00 a.m.

Adele E. Fischer, 59, Rapid City, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care following a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rapid City with Father Bill Zandri officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Adele was born September 24, 1949, in Manchester, England, to Allan and Beatrice (Matthews) Reinholtz. She lived in Manchester for 3 years while her father was stationed in the military and then the family moved to Sturgis where Adele was raised and received her education.
She married Jerry Fischer in Sturgis on November 29, 1974. They moved to Rapid City where they raised their family.
Adele ran an in-home day care. She later worked for Custom Packaging in Rapid City.
Adele was a member of St. Theresa of Little Flower. She enjoyed camping in the Black Hills. Adele also enjoyed horses and raising flowers, especially roses.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Fischer, Rapid City; two sons, Todd (Justine) Fischer, Rapid City, and Jerome "JT" Fischer (Amanda Blakeman), Rapid City; one daughter, Lacey Fischer (Drew Harris), Rapid City; one sister, Diane (Johnny) Jacobson, Dover, NJ; and two grandchildren, Thristine LaPointe and Winter LaPointe-Fischer.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial has been established.

Mary C. Heidrich

July 2, 1930 - October 17, 2008

Service was held:

Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

Mary C. Heidrich, 78, Nisland, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center.
Rosary and wake services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at the St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell.
A memorial mass follows at 10:30 a.m. at the Church with Fr. Arni Kari officiating. Inurnment follows at the Hope Cemetery near Newell.
Memorials have been established to the St. Mary's Church and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
Mary was born July 2, 1930 at Zeeland, ND, to Conrad and Josephine (Burgad) Schumacher. She graduated from High School in North Dakota and moved to South Dakota in 1951.
Mary married Jack Heidrich at St. Mary's Church in Newell on September 9, 1952.
The couple worked on a farm south of Nisland until 1964 when they moved to the town of Nisland.
Mary had a big garden enjoyed her flowers. She raised a big family and enjoyed sewing and baking for them.
Survivors include her husband Jack Heidrich, Nisland; sons, Edward and Vicky Heidrich, Park City, MT, Gregory Heidrich, Ft. Smith, MT, Francis Heidrich, Dean Heidrich and LeRoy Heidrich, all of Belle Fourche; daughter Susan and Robert Schnaible, Belle Fourche; one sister Elsie Barth, Bismarck, ND; 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 step brothers, 4 brothers and two sisters.

Irene V. Kral

November 30, 1921 - October 15, 2008

Service was held:

Monday, October 20, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.

Irene V. Kral, 87, Sturgis, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at David M. Dorsett Health Care in Spearfish. Following her wishes, her body has been cremated.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery. Family and friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery.
Irene was born November 30, 1921, at Fort Smith, AR, to Fred and Elizabeth Cole.
She married Leonard Kral in San Antonio, TX.
Survivors include her daughter, Tandy (Spencer) Paladino, Sturgis; her son, Dave (Sue) Ford, Brighton, CO; her step-son, Steve Kral, Fort Collins, CO; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Jenny, Jon-Michael, and J'ana.
She was preceded in death by her husband and nine brothers and sisters.

Joyce L. Bentz

February 5, 1930 - October 15, 2008

Service was held:

Monday, October 20, 2008, at 10:30 a.m.

Joyce Bentz, 78, Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at her residence.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 8:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 20, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche with Pastor Jeff Otterman officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Joyce was born February 5, 1930, in Newell, SD, to Sam and Alice Michelson. She graduated from Newell High School in 1948. Joyce attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls and received a two year teaching certificate.
She married Laurence Bentz in Newell on September 9, 1950. They farmed in the Newell and Nisland area until the early 60's. They became the owners and operators of Bentz Equipment in Belle Fourche in the 1960's.
Joyce was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. She was active as organist and in various other ministries.
Survivors include five daughters, Debra (Stephen) Foster, Indian Head, MD, Laurene (Matt) Strickland, Spearfish, SD, Susan (Larry) Lyman, Ottawa, KS, Gail Bentz, North Beach, MD, and Jennifer (Tom) Verhulst, Dike, IA; eleven grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence in 1992; one son, David in 1967; and one brother, Marion Michelson.
A memorial has been established.

Donna Evelyn Kruse

April 2, 1932 - October 13, 2008

Service was held:

Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.

Donna Evelyn Kruse, 76, Rapid City, died Monday, October 13, 2008, at the Rapid City Hospice House. Following her wishes, her body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.
Donna was born April 2, 1932, in Deadwood, SD, to Andrew Jackson and Muriel N. (Lints) Webb. She grew up in Deadwood and attended school in Deadwood. She married Henry F. "Stub" Kruse, Jr., in Deadwood on March 6, 1948. They lived in Central City where they raised their four children. They moved to Rapid City in 1964 where Donna has lived since.
Stub was a truck driver and Donna was his "co-pilot." Donna was very proud that she had been in each of the 48 continental states. She enjoyed gardening and especially loved flowers and roses. She enjoyed being with her special dog, "Boy."
Survivors include her husband, Henry F. Kruse, Jr., Fort Meade; two sons, Danny Joe (Kathy) Kruse, Elk Hart, IN, and Edward (Annette) Kruse, Rapid City; two daughters, Susan (Steve) Baker, Rapid City, and Sandy (Henry) Krause, Box Elder; seven grandchildren, Tina, Stephanie, Sheila, Amanda, Ed Jr., Brandy, and Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Jackson, Joshua, Shawn, Mandy, Samantha, Briana, Silus, and Julie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
A memorial has been established to the Rapid City Hospice House.

Chester Eugene Stuen

May 4, 1924 - October 12, 2008

Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 1:30 p.m.

Chester Eugene Stuen, 84, Sturgis, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at his residence.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A family service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Rev. Michael Fox officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Chet was born May 4, 1924, in Irene, SD, to Emanuel and Anna (Lee) Stuen. He grew up in Mission Hill, SD, where he lived on a farm and attended country school. Chet served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946. Following his honorable discharge, Chet returned to South Dakota. He married Marie Alma Stensaas in Volin, SD, on February 9, 1947. The couple farmed in eastern South Dakota until 1953 when they moved to Sturgis. Chester worked at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center from 1954 until 1976 in Nursing Service. After retiring, Chester enjoyed camping, fishing and being a Grandpa to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed repairing lawnmowers. He loved playing cards with friends.
Chester was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW. He and Marie served as custodians at Grace Lutheran Church for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Stuen, Sturgis; one son, Ronald Stuen, Black Hawk, SD; two daughters, Ila Kenoyer and Carolyn Park, both of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Glenn Stuen, Yankton, SD, and Larry Stuen, Simi, CA; four sisters, Anna Schindel, Yankton, SD, Ruth White, Joplin, MO, Alice Christensen, Mesa, AZ, and Eunice Bride, Arcadia, CA; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Norman and Donald Stuen.
Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Lois LaVerne Engel

June 21, 1923 - October 10, 2008

Service was held:

Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

Lois LaVerne Engel, 85, Rapid City, died Friday, October 10, 2008 at the West Hills Village Health Care Center in Rapid City.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Sean Carney officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Lois was born June 21, 1923, to George and Vera (Schnee) Lambert on her parents' homestead north of Hammond, Mt.
She graduated from Carter County High School and attended college in Billings. She graduated from Black Hills State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught school for 38 years.
Lois enjoyed crafts, china painting and making porcelain dolls, quilting, crocheting and sewing.
She married Lee F. Engel in 1947. He died in 1969.
Lois was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and United Church of Christ Congregational.
Survivors include one brother Norman Lambert, Broadus, MT; one sister Phillis Seaman, Spearfish, SD; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, brothers, Everette Lambert, Bill Lambert, and Laurence D. Lambert.
