LEAD — Eda T. Ross, 96, Spearfish, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Tender Care Assisted Living in Spearfish.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Ross Jr., Lead, and Theodore Ross, Fort Collins, Colo.; and eight grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.
Lenora ‘Jane' Karsten
STURGIS — Lenora "Jane" Karsten, 76, Sturgis, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Sturgis Community Long Term Care Center.
Survivors include one son, Jim Karsten, Sturgis; her mother, Jessie Foxley, Platte; one brother, Arlan Foxley, Santa Maria, Calif.; and three sisters, Alice DeHaan and Eleanor Kayser, both of Platte, and Mina Majerus, New Ulm, Minn.
Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today, and one hour before services at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Weidell officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
John A. Seifert Jr.
EDMOND, Okla. — John A. Seifert Jr., 55, Edmond, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Oklahoma City, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Deane, Edmond; one daughter, Mary Seifert, Lawton, Okla.; his mother, Ella Seifert, Belle Fourche; one brother, Tim Seifert, Belle Fourche; and two sisters, Mona Wilcock, Lakewood, Colo., and Jeanette Schneider, Santa Maria, Calif.
Services were held Tuesday, July 23, at First United Methodist Church. Burial was at Ft. Sill National cemetery, with full military honors.
Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond was in charge of arrangements.

GARY WENTZ passed away Saturday, July 20, 2002 at his home in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters Linda and Julie, son Scott, grandchildren Trent, Jory, Jordin, Trevor and Tyler, brothers Lee, Ken, and Bob, sister Lyllis and a host of friends and relatives.
Services will be held at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont, SD on Friday, August 2, 2002 at 1 p.m., and he will be interred in the Black Hills National cemetery at 3 p.m. the same day.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in the family's name — 37336 South Desert Star Drive, Tucson, AZ 85739.
Janet L. Craven
PHILIP — Janet L. Craven, 54, Philip, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Craven, Rapid City; two daughters, Michelle Brenner, Nowlin, and Sheila Kahl, Piedmont; her parents, Arnold and Virginia Wolden, Philip; her father, M.C. Johnson, Philip; four brothers, Michael Johnson, McHenry, Ill., Gene Wolden, Billings, Mont., Roger Wolden, Crystal Lake, Ill., and Terry Wolden, Rapid City; one sister, Linda Wolden, Rapid City; and six grandchildren.

Louis O. McGaa
LAKE NORDEN — Louis O. McGaa, 85, died Thursday, July 25, at Beverly Care Center, Lake Norden, SD.
Louis was born September 22, 1916 at Cuny Table to Albert and Anna (Davidson) McGaa. During his early years, Louis lived in South Dakota at Davidson Flatts near the town of Canata, and later north of Manderson at Stirk's Table. He attended school at Holy Rosary Mission, the Pierre Indian School and the country school at Cain Creek near Kyle. He lived in South Dakota at Davidson Flatts near the town of Canata, and later north of Manderson at Stirk's Table.
Louis married
Hester Louise Cuny on November 24, 1938, at Sacred Heart Church in Pine Ridge, SD. Hester was the daughter of Charles and Mabel Cuny. They were married
for forty-nine years at the time of Hester's death in 1988. He worked as a telephone lineman on the Reservation and later made a living as an airplane and auto mechanic. He taught for two years at the Denver Automotive Institute. In his later, years he became skilled at repairing office machines and computers.
During his lifetime, he pursued many interests. He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar, the piano and the harmonica. Boxing, water skiing, bowling and horseshoes were sports in which he excelled. He had a profound interest in astronomy, electronics and radio communications. For several years, he operated a Ham radio station out of his home in Sturgis. His call sign was KCOWC and now SK is added to indicate ‘Silent Key.'
He is survived by three sons, Gene McGaa, Grenville, SD, Charles McGaa, Pine Ridge, SD, and Greg McGaa, Sulphur, LA; Five daughters, Louella Vifquain, Nemo, SD, Anna Gerving, Denver, CO, Roebota Rhodes, Byers, CO, Marcia McGaa, Pine Ridge, SD and Mary Nelson, Rosholt, SD.
One sister, Jessie Clifford, Martin, SD; 26 Grandchildren and 66 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hester Cuny McGaa, and dear son-in-law, Chuck Farruggia.
A one-night wake service will begin Monday, July 29, 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pine Ridge, SD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 30, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pine Ridge with the Rev. Steve Sanford, S.J. as celebrant. A lunch will follow Mass.
Concluding services will be 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery at Cuny Table, SD.
Sioux Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Irma Harter
HOT SPRINGS — Irma Harter, 91, of Hot Springs, SD, died July 25, 2002 at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2002, at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002, also at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs with Rev. Dan Barcus officiating.
Irma was born on September 2, 1910, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to LeRoy and Julia (Bennett) Lewis. She grew up around Scottsbluff, Banner County, Nebraska. Irma worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company for a short time. On January 25, 1929, she married
Edwin "Chet" Harter in Monterey, California. To this union two children, Ed and Audrey, were born. They moved to Wheatland, Wyoming where they resided until 1954, when they moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota. They had a bee-keeping business in which Irma had a part. After Chet's death in December 1978, Irma continued to live in Hot Springs and later moved into the Evans Apartments where she lived for many years.
Irma was a member of the Rebekah's Lodge for many years, the Church of Christ Christian and the Hot Springs Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed her family and visiting with friends.
Survivors include: one son Ed and his wife Floretta Harter of Hot Springs; 6 grandchildren: Joyce and Roger Lee of Mesa, AZ; Brad and Kay Dawson of Phoenix, AZ; Starla and Lou Ditzler of Cheyenne, WY; Jim and April Harter of Rapid City, SD; Charlie and Ruth Harter of Hot Springs; and Larry Harter of Hot Springs; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Audrey Dawson, her husband Chet in December of 1978 and her parents.
A memorial has been established in Irma's memory to benefit the Hot Springs Friendship Bus.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Christine Harp
MOBRIDGE — Christine Harp, 93, Mobridge, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Albert, Rapid City, George, Loves Park, Ill., and Irvin, Maple Valley, Wash.; three daughters, Ann Besler, Boulder City, Nev., Josephine Hanson, Glenham, and Irene Kerbel, Rapid City; two half-brothers, Arnie Larson and Englof Larson, both of Pollock; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, at Kesling Funeral Home, and one hour before services at the church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural Glenham, with the Rev. Bryce Fellbaum officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour before services.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Community Evangelical Free Church in Philip, with the Rev. Gary Wahl officiating. Burial will be at Masonic cemetery.

Judith Ann Meland Waddell
RIDGEVIEW — Judith Ann Meland Waddell, 61, Ridgeview, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Don, Ridgeview; one son, Arnie, Murdo; three daughters, Brenda Iwan, Scotland, Carstin Alan, Whitewood, and Darilee Romey, Black Hawk; her mother, Edith Meland, Dupree; two brothers, Bob Waddell, Bonesteel, and Bill Waddell, Black Hawk; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Dupree Community Center in Dupree, with the Rev. Larry Martin officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Merle Durnil Titus
RAPID CITY — Merle Durnil Titus, 97, Rapid City, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.
Survivors include one son, Richard Durnil, Box Elder; five stepchildren, Roy Titus, Ray Titus and Lotus Titus, all of Rapid City, Bonnie Titus, Yuma, Ariz., and Lucille Titus, Rapid City; one brother, Everett Ellerton, Highmore; and
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. CST Thursday, Aug. 1, at Highmore cemetery in Highmore, with the Rev. Roger Day officiating.

One-night wake services will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at H.V. Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the cultural center, with the Rev. Ted Knife officiating. Burial will be at Lantry cemetery.
