BELLE FOURCHE — Muriel Morris, 85, Belle Fourche, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include four sons, Dan Morris, Tom Morris and David Morris, all of Lead, and Pete Morris, Parker, Colo.; two daughters, Sally Garcia, Spearfish, and Linda McKay, Belle Fourche; and one brother, Milton Hanson, Tucson, Ariz.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home of Spearfish.
Sarah ‘Alice' Paul Enger Biermann
PHILIP — Sarah Paul Enger Biermann, 80, Philip and formerly of Midla9328nd, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Bob Enger, Midland; one daughter, Marilyn Uhrig, Philip; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Edward Paul Jr., Wiggins, Colo.; and three sisters, Mary Rgnstad and Delores Olson, both of Madison, and Dorothy DeAngelo, Sargents, Colo.
Arrangements are pending with Rush Funeral Home of Philip.
Floyd LeRoy Rathman
STURGIS — Floyd LeRoy Rathman, 84, Sturgis, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois Rathman, Sturgis.
His wife, Olga Mae Houska Rathman, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Sturgis.
Visitation will continue for one hour before services, which will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, with the Rev. H.B. Cleveland officiating.
Burial, with military honors by Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard, will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Geraldine M. ‘Gerry' Koan
SIOUX FALLS — Geraldine M. "Gerry" Koan, 72, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, June 23, at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls.
Geraldine Peterson, daughter of Clarence and Marie (Brannan) Peterson, was born October 25, 1929, in Clark, SD. She grew up there and attended Logan School in Clark County.
She married
Kenneth Larson in Clark on May 28, 1947. They lived in Clark until moving to Spearfish in 1955. She served her hairstyling apprenticeship at Martha's Beauty Shop in Spearfish.
She married
Russell Koan in Newcastle, WY, on Aug. 15, 1964. She later owned and operated Gerry's Beauty Land in Spearfish. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1970. She continued with Gerry's Beauty Land in Sioux Falls and also did hairstyling at the Good Samaritan Village Salon. She loved her job and the personal and professional relationships she shared with her customers and residents of the Village over the years.
She attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church. She enjoyed music, dancing, sewing, bowling and camping. She was a very loving person, famous for her kisses and hugs. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with family.
Survivors include her children, Kay Schmidt, Bellvue, NE, Karyl (Richard) Divich, Rapid City, Kevin (Deb) Larson, Rapid City, Karen (Blake) Johnson, Kathy (Lowell) Wilkenson, Karla (Dwight) Kuyper, Konnie (Robert) Boe and Kerry Larson, all of Sioux Falls; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Peterson, Clark; her stepfather, Ralph Peters, Clark; and a sister-in-law, Judy Smith, Brookings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, on Jan. 28, 1995; her parents; and a brother, Darrell.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Association and the Alzheimer's Association.
Robert ‘Rob' Joel Ruff
ENUMCLAW, Wash. — Robert "Rob" Joel Ruff, 39, Enumclaw, Wash., died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Wash.
Visitation will be at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Friday, June 28, 2002, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, one hour prior to the services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, with Rev. Debra Geelsdottir officiating. Burial will follow at the Vale cemetery.
Rob was born September 27, 1962, at Sturgis, S.D., to Robert R. and Carolyn Faye (Edwards) Ruff. He grew up in the Vale area and graduated from Newell High School in 1980 as salutatorian and was a state track champion. Rob was awarded the Outstanding Athlete Award in 1980. He graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1984 with a computer science degree. He lettered in track all four years.
Rob moved to Washington in 1985, where he worked the past 17 years as a software engineer for Boeing. He has lived in Enumclaw for the past 11 years. Rob was married
to Marlene E. Moore at Bellingham, Wash., on May 27, 2000.
Rob was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, the Boeing parachute club, and the Boeing basketball team. Rob loved the outdoors, his yard, garden and pets. He enjoyed many sporting activities, with track and field being his favorite.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Moore, Enumclaw, Wash.; his parents, Bob and Carolyn Ruff, Vale; his paternal grandmother and her husband, Lillie and Vernon Holst, Spearfish; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Rob was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Dave Ruff, and his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Helen Edwards.
Memorials have been established to Hope Lutheran Church and to the Newell High School Track Department.
Delores S. Eisenbraun
GILLETTE, Wyo. — Delores S. Eisenbraun, 70, Gillette and formerly of Wall, S.D., died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Gegelman, Gillette, and JoAnn Hoffman, Wright, Wyo.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Hamann, Wall.
Two husbands, Otto J. Eisenbraun and Fredrick A. Wolf, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and for one hour before services Wednesday, June 26, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Ray Greenseth officiating.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
A memorial has been established.
Peter Helper Jr.
PINE RIDGE — Peter Helper Jr., 58, Pine Ridge, died Friday, June 21, 2002, in Rapid City.
Survivors include his father, Peter Helper Sr., Oglala; three daughters, Shana Helper, Oglala, and Angel Helper and Jessica Helper, both of Porcupine; two sons, Jay Helper, Oglala, and Vincent Helper, Santa Rosa, Calif.; four sisters, Darlene Helper and Helen Helper, both of Oglala, and Corrine Janis and Geraldine Garnier, both of Pine Ridge; one brother, Vaughn Helper, Oglala; and seven grandchildren.
A two-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. today in Loneman School gym in Oglala.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the school gym, with the Rev. Asa Wilson officiating. Wilmer Mesteth will officiate over traditional services.
Burial will be at Makasan Presbyterian cemetery in Oglala.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Donald E. Christensen
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Donald E. Christensen, 75, Cheyenne and formerly of Newcastle, died Friday, June 21, 2002, in Cheyenne.
Survivors include two daughters, Danette Nolder, Cheyenne, and Geralyn Koski, Wheatland; two sisters, Marlys Hagseth and Judy Stover; one brother, Milford Sedig; and three grandchildren.
His wife, Madeline Purcelli Christensen, preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A rosary service will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Worden Chapel in Newcastle.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. Bruce Clapham officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Newcastle.

Emil Lloyd Anderson
RAPID CITY — Emil Lloyd Anderson, 76, of Rapid City, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Lloyd was born May 14, 1926, near Redfield, S.D., to Emil Sr. and Mabel (Ziese) Anderson. He served in the Army in Manila, Philippines, with the 49th and 89th General Hospitals. Lloyd and Evelyn Wessel grew up, met and were married
November 26, 1948, in Mobridge, S.D., and attended the Mobridge Church of God. Lloyd attended Northwest Bible School in Lemmon, S.D., and Lee College in Tennessee for a brief time. Lloyd farmed until 1956, then worked for Milwaukee Railroad, and moved to Rapid City in 1956. He worked at various jobs including hauling trailer houses, serviceman for MDU, TV repairman, and finally as a civil service worker at Ellsworth AFB for the last 20 years before retiring in 1994. He also sold insurance part-time and owned rental properties. They owned Black Hills Gifts in Hill City for over 22 years.
Lloyd and Evelyn were charter members of the Canyon Lake Church of God. He was also a member of The Gideons International for over 10 years.
One of Lloyd's joys and areas of giftedness was in building projects in the Church of God throughout South Dakota.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Anderson of Rapid City; two daughters, Penny and Sam Saylor of Bismarck, N.D., and Becky Anderson of Aberdeen; one son, Tim and Pam Anderson of Hot Springs; one sister, Lorraine Hagen of Glenham, S.D.; and three grandsons, Brian and Becky Saylor, Barry Saylor, and Matthew Anderson.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Kirk Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Canyon Lake Church of God, with Pastor Robert James officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. at Black Hills National cemetery, with military honors by Sturgis Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established.

Howard H. Homan
NEWCASTLE, Wyo. — Howard H. Homan, 89, died peacefully in his sleep, with his wife, Trudy, by his side, on June 23, 2002, at Weston County Manor in Newcastle, Wyoming.
His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5018 Hwy. 16, Newcastle, WY, on Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. Bruce Frye will be officiating. Immediately following the services, all his friends are invited to gather at the Michael's Senior Center for refreshments.
Howard was born April 8, 1913, in Zoarville, Ohio, son of James H. Homan and Clara Belle Dine. In 1933 he married
Grace Lahr. They lived for many years in the northeastern part of Ohio, where Howard worked and then retired from the railroad after 36 years of service.
On Dec. 13, 1980, he married
Irmtrud Frank (Trudy) in Carson City, Nevada. They moved to Newcastle in July of 1981. Howard always enjoyed working. While residing in Newcastle, he worked for the City of Newcastle for 17-1/2 years.
Howard and Trudy enjoyed traveling together to various places such as Japan, Germany, and all over the United States.
Howard had many friends and he found great joy in entertaining them. Howard will always be remembered by those who loved him for his generosity and his great BIG smile.
He actively served as one of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years until his death. Since Howard never had any children of his own, he enjoyed taking young ones from his congregation on occasion, on special outings to Rapid City with all the trimmings.
In later years, when his health began to fail, he liked watching old Wild West movies.
He is survived by his wife Trudy; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Murphy, Newcastle, and Cordelia Fehl of Germany; one sister, Marian Meissner, Strasburg, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was a loving and loyal husband and will be greatly missed by his wife and all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, four sisters and two brothers.
