Joseph Calabro
LEAD - Christian Wake and Rosary Service for Joseph Calabro, 67, of Lead, and formerly of New York, will be 4 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead. The Rev. William Zandri will officiate. Joseph died on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Fulton, N.Y.
Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Fulton, New York.
Joseph was born September 21, 1934, in Fulton, N.Y., to Anthony and Kathryn (Curcuruto) Calabro. He graduated from Fulton High School in 1952.
Following school he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1956. He moved to the Black Hills in 1995 to be near his brother. Joseph was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fulton, N.Y., and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Rapid City, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his brothers, Greg Calabro of Lead and Henry Calabro of Fulton, N.Y.; an aunt, Carmella Nucifora of Fulton, N.Y.; two nieces, Mary Kay Bullard of Deadwood and Angela Rose Calabro of Greely, Colorado; a nephew, Henry John Calabro Jr. of Fulton, N.Y.; and numerous cousins. His parents preceded Joseph in death.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.
Debra Kay Fierro
SPEARFISH - Debra Kay Fierro, 47, Spearfish, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Lookout Memorial in Spearfish
Debbie was born February 2, 1955, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Richard and Constance (Shull) Olsen. She grew up in Deadwood and graduated from Deadwood/Lead High School in 1973. She worked for Twin City Fruit Co., where she met John Fierro. They were married
September 17, 1988, and moved to Spearfish in 1989. Debbie was the office manager for Fischer Sand and Gravel, where she worked until the time of her death. Her husband, John, is employed by Lueders Foods.
Debbie was an avid golfer and enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling. She especially enjoyed her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, John of Spearfish; her mother, Connie Olsen of Deadwood, S.D.; four sons, Rob (Debbie) Fierro, Sedona, Ariz., Rick (Nicole) Fierro, Aurora, Colo., Jay (Amy) Fierro, Pierre, S.D., and Jeff (Lyndsay) Fierro of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter, Lori (Shad) Storm, Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, Steve (Mindy) Olsen, Ridgecrest, Calif., and Jim (Gina) Olsen, Chandler, Ariz.; and four sisters, Gwen (Doug) Truitt, Colorado Springs, Colo., Pat (Abe) Schopen, Nemo, S.D., Janet (Dan) Cheever, Eden Prairie, Minn., and Susan (Boyd) Erickson of Chandler, Ariz. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephen, Serena, Rhen, Bailey Mae, John III, Noah, Jack, Cale, Berkley and Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Michael David.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish, with Rev. Dan Kent officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 6, 2002, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery, Spearfish, S.D. A memorial has been established to the John T. Vucurevich Rapid City Cancer Center, Rapid City, S.D.
Karen Catron Streets
HELENA, Mont. - Karen Catron Streets passed away at her home May 30, 2002, surrounded by her family in Helena, MT.
She was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Belle Fourche, S.D., to Esther and John Catron. She grew up on a ranch in Camp Crook, S.D. She earned a BA in biology at Carroll College in 1963. She worked as a medical technologist in the genetics lab at Shodair Hospital for over 30 years.
She married
Burl Streets in 1970. They owned and operated the Broadwater Market from 1971 to 1975.
Karen enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing, landscaping, and for the last five years, enjoyed nothing more than riding around Montana on her Harley-Davidson in search of the best burger and beer in the North.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Burl Streets of Helena; daughter and son-in-law Britt Streets and Bill Ballinger of Missoula, daughter and son-in-law Casey and Mike Harmon of Richland, N.C., daughter and son-in-law Clarice Streets and Shaun Coleman of Hamilton; grandsons Jacob Ballinger and Junior Harmon, and granddaughter Lily Coleman.
Karen is also survived by brother and sister-in-law Keith and Jan Catron of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters-in-law Delores Catron of Rapid City, S.D., Wanda Miller of Hamilton and Pauline Hooper of Helena; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Jean Wilson of Butte; aunt Julia Jensen of Helena and special friend and caregiver Toni Rickman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother and father and brother, Dennis Catron.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Shodair Hospital Genetics Department in lieu of flowers.
A funeral service will be held at the Helena Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, June 5th, at 2 p.m. Father Jim Connor will officiate.
Hilda Eliza Sophia Bruce
RAPID CITY - Hilda Eliza Sophia Bruce, 90, Rapid City, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at a local nursing home.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Garner, Rapid City, and Ilene Barnes, Walla Walla, Wash.
Private family services will be at a later date in Idaho.
Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Earl Hasbrouck
BRISTOL - Donald Earl Hasbrouck, 52, Bristol, died January 15, 2002.
Survivors include three daughters, Amanda Hasbrouck and Michelle Hansen, both of Loveland, Colo., and Rachel Hasbrouck, Lakewood, Colo.; two sons, Thomas Hasbrouck, Webster, and Terry Hasbrouck; two brothers, Larry Hasbrouck of Shipshewana, Ind., and John Hasbrouck, Indiana; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at Kirk Chapel of Light in Rapid City, with the Rev. Brent Woodard officiating.
Burial, with military honors by Sturgis Honor Guard, will follow at 3 p.m. at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Lois Joy Longden
DEADWOOD -— Lois Joy Longden, 70, of Deadwood, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Lois was born July 17, 1931, at Mitchell, S.D., to Clyde and Alice (Irvin) Cross. After her mother's death she was raised at Faith Home, an orphanage in Mitchell. She married
Glen Kenneth Longden on May 19, 1950, at Luverne, Minnesota. They lived at Newell, Whitewood, and then moved to Deadwood in 1956, where they have resided since. She prided herself as a homemaker, raising their eight children. She also worked for a time at the Friendship Home in Deadwood. She enjoyed bingo, rummage sales and her porcelain dolls.
She is survived by her husband, Glen K. Longden of Deadwood; eight children, Gordie Longden and wife Carol of Rapid City, Bob Longden and wife Jackie of Gillette, Wyo., Deon Longden of Deadwood, Glenda Longden and significant other Dennis Klien of Belle Fourche, Monte Longden of Deadwood, Charlene Compton and husband Lewis of Custer, Gregory Longden of Deadwood, and Melody Longden and significant other Donald Velasguez of Moab, Utah; one brother, Clyde Cross of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Pearl Mills of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amy Smith of Watertown; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 3 grandchildren.
Graveside services are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, with Dr. David Miller officiating.
A memorial has been established.

Kathryn L. Fitzgerald
BEATRICE, Neb. — Kathryn L. Fitzgerald, 87, Beatrice, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Beatrice Community Hospital.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Ida Mumford, Beatrice; and three nieces, Shirley Turner, Judy Behr and Cindy Essam, all of Beatrice.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hugh Schwaab, and her second husband, Henry Fitzgerald.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Beatrice, with the Rev. Mark Seiker officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
A memorial has been established to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in care of Fox Funeral Home in Beatrice.
Betty J. Chew
RAPID CITY — Betty Janice Chew, 79, Rapid City, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born October 25, 1922, in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbert and Lulu (Harmon) Chew. After graduating from high school, she worked for a newspaper in Newton, Iowa, until she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1958. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines from 1958 to 1984. In 1988 she moved to Rapid City and has lived here since.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Marjorie Chew, Rapid City; a niece, Susan Thomas, Rapid City; a great-nephew, Jason Thomas, Rapid City; and a nephew, James Chew, Corona, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
No local services are planned and burial will be in Leon, Iowa.
Local arrangements are with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Clyde F. Peters
SOAP LAKE, Wash. — Clyde F. Peters, 80, Soap Lake and formerly of South Dakota, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at McKay Memorial Nursing Home in Soap Lake.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1946.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Larry Archambeau
PIERRE — Larry Archambeau, 64, Pierre, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Living Waters Fellowship in Pierre.
Wilma Nowell
CUSTER — Wilma Nowell, 86, Custer, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include one son, Norm Nowell, Capistrano Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Girdler, Boca Raton, Fla., and Naomi Whalen, Rapid City; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Nowell.
Arrangements are pending with McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Custer.
John E. Nelson
STURGIS — John E. Nelson, 85, Sturgis, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his son and his wife, Edward J. and Gina M. Nelson of Rapid City; two sisters, Ethel Reichert of Sturgis, Edna Mills of Deadwood; and one brother, Fred Nelson of Sturgis; five grandchildren, Brittany and Andrea Nelson of Rapid City and Jeffry, Jonathon and Andrew Jr. McNew of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and one son-in-law, Andy McNew of Cheyenne.
John was born on Alkali Divide, 26 miles east of Sturgis, on January 2, 1917, to Edward and Anna (Johnson) Nelson. He attended rural school on Alkali and was married
to Mary A. Guegel at Sturgis, S.D., on September 8, 1951. He ranched and farmed at the home place until he moved to Sturgis.
John was a member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association.
His wife, Mary, and one daughter Linda preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank McKeehan officiating and burial at the Bear Butte cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Building Fund.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Leon Tague
BELLE FOURCHE — Leon Tague, 79, Belle Fourche, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Oct. 7, 1943, to March 7, 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Tague, Belle Fourche; four children, Dwight Tague, Terry, Mont., Dana Tague, Larisa, Greece, Karen Harris, Black Hawk, and Sheila Speidel, Cedar Hill, Mo.; three sisters, Verda Turner, Walsh, Colo., Vela Callahan, Springfield, Colo., and Virginia Eskew, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour before services at the church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, at First Congregational/United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating. Burial will be at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the Belle Fourche Area Community Center.
