RAPID CITY – Beverly J. Cress, 75, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Golden Living Center-Black Hills.
Survivors include four daughters: Joan Chick of Burns Flat, OK, Peggy Wallenstein of Black Hawk, Linda Johns of Piedmont, and Janie Shannon of Sacramento, CA; one son: Stephen Johnson of Galt, CA; eight grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, June 6 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Her funeral will be 12:00 pm noon, Friday, June 7 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating.
Burial will be held at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
Joyce Dozier
(August 22, 1934 - April 5, 2015)
Joyce Dozier, 80 of Pierre, died Sunday, April 5 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Wednesday, April 8 at Isburg Funeral Chapel. Services will be 10:00am, Thursday, April 9 at New Life Assembly of God with burial at Scotty Philip cemetery
Joyce Janet Dozier was born August 22, 1934 at Spirit Lake, IA, daughter of Leland I. and Ethelyn A. Reed.
She attended grade schools in Iowa, Oklahoma, and South Dakota and graduated from the Gann Valley, SD High School in 1952.
In 1955, she graduated from the Presentation School of Nursing, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Mitchell, SD. Her first nursing duty was with the Public Health Service at the Yankton Indian Hospital, Wagner, SD.
In 1957, she was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, taking her Basic and Flight Nurse training at Ganter AB, AL. Thereafter, she served as an Air Force Nurse at Scott AFB, IL, Wiesbaden Air Station, Germany, and 401st Tactical Hospital-England AFB-Alex Andria, Louisiana.
While in Germany, she met and later married
her husband, Captain Wayne M. Dozier, in Basil, Switzerland on December 19, 1961.
In September 1962, she was promoted to Captain. Soon thereafter, she and her husband were reassigned to England AFB, LA. She resigned her Air Force Commission in July 1963 prior to the birth of their son, Warren, on November 29, 1963. Joyce retired from the Air Force as Captain Joyce Dozier with her husband Lt. Colonel Wayne Dozier.
In following years, she and her family lived in Virginia, Arizona, and North Carolina before moving to Pierre, SD in September 1973.
She was employed as a charge nurse at the Rivercrest Manor Nursing Home in Pierre, SD from August 1978 until she retired in January 1985. After her retirement she cared for her husband, volunteered/assisted with her grandchildren especially 4-H and was an active member of the American Legion.
She is survived by her son Warren Dozier of Pierre; two grandchildren: Lonnie (Sarah) Dozier of Pierre and Lacey (Chris) Boxley of Pierre; four great-grandchildren: Caleb Boxley, Lexi Boxley, Treyton Boxley, Taya Dozier and one on the way in July and her beloved dog Cinder.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents and brother.
Clarence 'Fred' Quandt
BOX ELDER - The Lord received the spirit of Clarence "Fred" Quandt, 69, of Box Elder, into his presence on Tuesday, September 25, 2001, as the result of a construction accident in Box Elder.
He was born on January 7, 1932, in Guelph, N.D., the son of Christian P. and Edith D. (Washner) Quandt.
Fred loved life to its fullest. He was a man of few words, had a heart of unselfish giving, and a mind filled with only the best for those around him. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he never wavered from his support, dreams, or aspirations. Fred was kind, understanding, and encouraging. He always viewed life from the bright side, and this guided his thoughts and was evident in his deeds.
As retirement was nearing, it was finally time to fulfill his dreams of ranching and later of developing the Prairie View Estates, his most prized endeavor. Fred enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, skiing and playing cards, and always looked for new challenges.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Lore Quandt, Box Elder; two sons, Douglas Quandt and his wife, Rhonda, Newport, Wash., and David Quandt and his wife, Dixie, Round Mountain, Nev.; two daughters, Sherie Brost and her husband, Mark, Box Elder, and Lore Schmidt and her husband, Bruce, Huntersville, N.C.; three brothers, Paul, Walter and Roy; one sister, Louise Bell; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home, with Rev. Rodney Strobel officiating.
Burial will be in the Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City.
A memorial has been established to the charity of the giver's choice.
Terril H. Brophy
LAUREL, Mont. - Terril H. Brophy, 69, of Laurel, passed away Monday, October 15, 2001, at Deaconess Billings Clinic. Terril was born June 25, 1932, in Hill City, S.D., a son of Francis and Lois Brophy of Hermosa, S.D.
He served in the armed forces from 1953 to 1956. A rancher at heart, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He joined the Masons while in Hermosa. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He and his wife, Shirley, lived in Hermosa until 1973 and moved to Iowa, then to Montana in 1978. They were married
in 1957 and had four children. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and two nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Laurel; one daughter, Sandy (Steve) Leichner of Billings; three sons, Clifford (Renae) Brophy of Columbus, Mont., Ken Brophy of Leon, Iowa, and Steve (Kim) Brophy of Laurel, Mont.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, at Smith Funeral Chapel, Laurel, Montana.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Hermosa United Church of Christ. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Highland Park cemetery.
Mike Fisher
BISON - Mike Fisher, 90, Bison-Faith area, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Fisher; one son, Michael Fisher, Faith; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Faith Area Memorial Chapel in Faith, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Bison.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Arnold Kari, the Rev. Dennis Riss, and the Rev. Brian Fawcett officiating. Burial will follow at the Bison cemetery.
Frederick "Francie" Giannonatti
LUDLOW -- Frederick "Francie" Giannonatti, 67, Ludlow, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at the Southwest Health Care Center at Bowman, N.D.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Giannonatti, Ludlow; one son, Lane Giannonatti, Ludlow; one daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Dale Turbiville, Buffalo; his mother, Ann Giannonatti, Ludlow; one sister, Myrna Giannonatti, Ludlow; one sister-in-law, Fern Giannonatti, Ludlow; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Krebsbach Funeral Service of Bowman is in charge of the arrangements.
Nevalyn Gilbert
RAPID CITY -- Nevalyn Maria Gilbert, 16, Rapid City, died Monday December 24, 2001 in Rapid City.
She is survived by her father Allan Gilbert, Rapid City, three sisters, Tonya Moran and Michelle Curley both of Pine Ridge, Michelle Conners, Rapid City, four brothers, Allan Gilbert, Jr., Sioux Falls; Clifford Gilbert, Aaron Conners and Dennis Gilbert, Jr., all of Rapid City and her grandmother, Mildred Gilbert, Rapid City.
Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Nancy Haivala
MESA, Ariz. - Nancy Haivala, 54, Mesa, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, in Mesa.
Survivors her husband, Jim Haivala, Mesa; one daughter, Kristi Haivala, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; five sisters, Peggy Brown, Conover, N.C., Shirley Lessnau, Tucson, Mary Shepherd, Apopka, Fla., Phyllis Lail, Claremont, N.C., and Brenda Fulcher, Hickory, N.C.; and one brother, Bob Sigmon, Richmond, Va.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa.
Juliet Jump
NEWELL -- Juliet Jump, 86, Newell passed away at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center in Belle Fourche on Tuesday, December 25, 2001.
She is survived by her sons, Roger Jump San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Kenneth Jump, Sioux Falls; and one daughter, Marion Jump, Newell.
Arrangements are pending with the Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Sturgis.
Helen F. Morganti
LEAD -- Helen F. Morganti, 88, lifelong resident of Lead, died Tuesday, Dec. 25 at the Sturgis Nursing Home.
Survivors include close friends, Phyllis Lang of Lead, Esther & Reed Richards of Centennial Valley, and Sonny and Alice McNall of Lead. Morganti considered all the graduates of Lead High School that she taught her grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial for Morganti will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead with the Rev. William Zandri officiating.
Christian Wake and Rosary Service will be 9 a.m. Saturday, at St. Pat's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time at St. Pat's. Burial will be in the Holy Cross cemetery of Lead.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead.
Helga Ofstad
HOT SPRINGS -- Helga E. Ofstad, 83, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, December 23, at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.
Survivors include: one son: Carl Ofstad of Hot Springs; three daughters, Lois Mael of Sturgis; Bonnie McGill of Rock Valley, Iowa; Margie Thornburn of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Kenny Field of Hot Springs and Gene Field of Hazel; two sisters, Inger Kvinge of Lake Preston and Esther Gerlock of Brookings; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27 at Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs with Sharon Shaw officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis.
Arrangements are with Rooks-McColley Funeral Chapel in Hot Springs.
Edith Beaird Thorpe
RAPID CITY -- Edith Beaird Thorpe, 93, Rapid City, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at a local nursing home.
She is survived by two daughters, Nadine Canfield and Ida Holst, both of Rapid City, five granddaughters; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Glen L. Westberg
WHITEWOOD -- Glen L. Westberg, 84, Whitewood, well-known rancher and businessman, died of an extended illness on Christmas Day at his residence near Whitewood.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Whitewood with the Rev. David Baer officiating.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 27, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. A veteran of World War II, Westberg will be interred at the Black Hills National cemetery.
He was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Cambridge, Minn., to John August and Imogene Erma (Poore) Westberg. He was raised in Summit, S.D., and had been a resident of Whitewood for nearly 50 years. Glen married
Mildred Wullum at New Hampton, Iowa, on June 12, 1937. He was owner and manager of the Whitewood Post & Pole Co., from 1956 to 1978, and purchased Livestock Energy Systems, Inc., in 1978. In 1988, he retired and established Oak Leaf Ranch in Whitewood Valley where he raised registered quarter horses and Angus cattle.
Glen is a former president of the Western South Dakota Traffic Bureau and served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Timer Purchasers Association. He was active in Keep South Dakota Green, Western South Dakota Grain & Feed Dealers Association, South Dakota Stockgrowers Association and the Catalyst Club. He had been a member of the Western South Dakota Buckaroos since 1969, the Custer Trail Riders, Northern Hills Community Development, and the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mildred, and five children: Jerry and Brigitte Westberg, Oregon City, Oregon; Tony and Alona Westberg, Whitewood; Karen Rossow, Sturgis; Kathy Hickley, Arvada, Colo.; and Jeff and Julie Westberg, Whitewood. Glen also is survived by 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Woodrow Westberg, and his sisters, Evelyn Vititoe and Gene Hundley.
A memorial has been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
George Wilson
HIGHMORE - George Wilson, 92, Highmore and formerly of Winner, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at the Highmore Healthcare Center.
Survivors include one stepson, Doug Kloppel, Spearfish; one stepdaughter, Marilee Anton, Pierre; and one brother, Homer Wilson or North Dakota.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in Pierre.
