RAPID CITY - Max M. Grove, 82, Rapid City, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Ardelle Grove, Rapid City; two sons, Stephen Grove, Aurora, Colo., and Marshall Grove, Yakima, Wash.; one daughter, Stephanie Dean, Fargo, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Esther Eide Tech
BELLE FOURCHE - Esther Eide Tech, 76, Belle Fourche, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Kiewel's Guardian Angel Home in Belle Fourche.
Survivors include her husband, Eldon Tech, Belle Fourche; three sons, Arnie Eide, Whitehall, Mont., Elmer Eide, Lincoln, Neb., and Russell Eide, Great Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Ann Stewart, Vermillion, and Sue Kimball, Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Tillery, Wessington Springs, and Lawrence Tillery, Rapid City; and three sisters, Francis Baldwin, Rosebud, Mont., and Jeanne Nichols and Edna May Cox, both of Wessington Springs.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche and for one hour before services Thursday, Dec. 20, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Buck Malone officiating.
Burial will be at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Helen Ethel Latimer
SPEARFISH - Helen Ethel Latimer, 90, Spearfish, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish.
Survivors include one son, Stanley Latimer, Pound Ridge, N.Y.; one daughter, Randy Sue Latimer, St. Paul, Minn.; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Carlsen & Aldinger Funeral Home in Spearfish, with a 1 p.m. family-led service before going to the cemetery.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the interment service center at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis.
Carl V. Henrickson
RAPID CITY - Carl V. Henrickson, 84, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Survivors include his wife, LaVonne Henrickson, Rapid City; three daughters, Linda Agather, Kalispell, Mont., and Shannon Parham and Beth Sartorius, both of Rapid City; one brother, Jack Henrickson, Anchorage, Alaska; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Nancy Kay Boyles
RAPID CITY - Nancy Kay Boyles, 57, Rapid City, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Heather Robnik and Kaylee Kruse, both of Rapid City; one son, Richard Boyles, Rapid City; her father, Fred Barrett, Eagan, Minn.; five brothers, Frederick
Barrett Jr., Tahuya, Wash., Jon Barrett, Duluth, Minn., Robert Barrett, Minneapolis, Patrick Barrett, Olympia, Wash., and James Barrett, Reno, Nev.; one sister, Peg Miller, Apple Valley, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Linda Susan Adams
DENVER - On Monday, December 17, Linda Susan (Brewer) Adams, 51, was accepted into the Spirit World after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer at her home in Denver, Colo.
She was born to Arthur Brewer and Lula (Mills) in Rapid City on February 23, 1950. She grew up in Rapid City, attended St. John's Catholic School, and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School (Crow Creek), Stephan, S.D., in 1968, then attended the National College of Business in 1970. She worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Denver prior to her illness.
Her survivors are her husband, Mike, and her son, Douglas Grudniewski, both of Denver, Colo.; her brothers, Arthur Brewer Jr., Lemmon, S.D., Donald Brewer, Phoenix, Ariz., Walter Brewer, Denver, Colo., Larry Brewer, Phoenix, Ariz., Darrell Brewer, Denver, Colo., John Brewer, Holy Rosary Mission, S.D., and Randolph Brewer, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and sisters, Patricia Twiss, Manderson, S.D., and Donna Chavez, Fort Washakie, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Brewer; her sister, Geraldine Hagerman; her brother, Douglas Brewer; and her mother, Lula Brewer.
Her kindness and compassion for others will always be remembered by everyone whose lives were touched by her wit and sense of humor.
Wake services will begin at 4 p.m., with a rosary starting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec 20, 2001, at Mother Butler Center in Rapid City. A Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec 21, 2001, at Mother Butler Center, with Fr. Pat McCorkell, S.J., officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National cemetery near Sturgis at noon.

Richard Calvin 'Dick' Mathews
HOUSTON - Richard Calvin "Dick" Mathews, Houston, Texas, born August 27, 1924, passed away Friday, December 14, 2001. He is survived by daughter Kim Mathews-Thrun and husband Roger Thrun; granddaughters Greer Feagin, Whitney Feagin, Tyler Feagin; son Rick Mathews and wife Karen Mathews; granddaughter Marissa Mathews; and mother of his children, Imy Abbenhaus Mathews. He was a proud WWII veteran. Dick graduated from South Dakota School of Mines in 1948. He had lived in Houston and worked for Davison Chemical, a division of W.R. Grace, since 1956. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and many friends.
Gladys Pattinson Landers
GILLETTE, Wyo. - Gladys Pattinson Landers, 79, Gillette, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, as a result of injuries from a one-vehicle accident.
Survivors include her husband, Leland Landers, Gillette; her stepfather, Jesse Janes, Spearfish, S.D.; and two sisters, Opal Smith, Black Hawk, S.D., and Juanita Erdman, Spearfish.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Gillette Christian Center, with the Rev. Clint Pickrel officiating.
Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah cemetery in Gillette.

BELLE FOURCHE - Nora Jeremiason, 100, Belle Fourche, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Belle Fourche Long Term Health Care Center.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Jeff Dilks officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Slope cemetery in Belle Fourche.
Nellie Horner
WAGNER - Nellie Horner, 88, Wagner, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Wagner.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Denker and Jane Kostel, both of Wagner; three sons, Arnold Horner, Wagner, Melvin Horner, New Underwood, and Ralph Horner,
Russellville, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Inez Horner, Wagner; and one brother, Frank Weichmann, Wagner.
Her husband, William Ray Horner, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from noon to 5:30 p.m. today at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Wagner. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, Dec. 20, at the church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial will be at Z.C.B.J. cemetery in rural Wagner.
Evelyn K. Lee
RAPID CITY - Evelyn K. Lee, 87, a lifelong resident of Rapid City, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at a local nursing home.
She was born Sept. 14, 1914, at Red Owl, S.D., the daughter of William Lee and Gertrude (Spaniol) Kiley. As a child, Evelyn moved to Rapid City with her family. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Church and confirmed in the Catholic faith by Bishop John Lawler on April 11, 1926. Evelyn attended the Cathedral grade school and Rapid City High School, graduating in 1932. On August 20, 1950, she married
Archie Lee at Deadwood.
Surviving are her husband, Archie Lee, Rapid City; one daughter, Catherine Sullivan and her husband, Emmet, Rapid City; one sister, Dorothy Ziter, Brattleboro, Vermont; three grandchildren, Patrick Sullivan, Rapid City, Lee Anne Lindholm, Rapid City, and Kerry Sullivan, Waterloo, Iowa; one nephew, Michael Ziter, Brattleboro, Vt.; and a special friend, Pat McKinstry, Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and a great-grandson.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. A Christian wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at St. Therese the Little Flower Church, with Rev. Bryan Sorensen presiding. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Roy M. Lathem
PIERRE - Longtime Stanley County rancher Roy M. Lathem, 80, passed away December 8, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be held Thursday, December 13, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Pierre with the Rev. Theodora Boolin officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place at the National cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Roy M. Lathem was born November 2, 1921, in Floyd County, Texas, to Marion and Clara (Sluder) Lathem, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1940. He worked at the W.M. Massy Ranch in Floydada, Texas, until Pearl Harbor, following which he joined the United States Air Force. Roy spent almost four years stationed in England, France, Belgium and Germany, serving as an airplane electrical mechanic.
During his European tour of duty, Roy played as an offensive and defensive guard on the Air Force football team and had the privilege of playing on the European Operations Theatre Championship team when Air Force upset General Eisenhower's Army Headquarters team.
Roy returned to the United States in November 1945, working for several years in ranching, logging and trucking. Roy married
Loreta (Reta) Stringer on July 20, 1947, in Sandhill, Texas. Following their wedding, Roy returned to ranching, working for G.L. Taylor Cattle Co. at Stratford, Texas, and later, LaVeta, Colorado. While in Colorado he received an associate's degree in agriculture from Trinidad Junior College.
In 1952, the Lathems returned to Olton, Texas, where Roy worked with the Olton Butane Co. until 1956, when he was asked to move to Stanley County, South Dakota, to work at the Billy Barrick Cattle ranches. Roy subsequently became the manager of three of the Barrick ranches until their sale in 1984. In 1978, Roy was recognized by the state of South Dakota for his work in soil conservation.
Upon their retirement, they moved to Fort Pierre, where Roy became more active in activities of the First Baptist Church, YMCA and Gideons and developed an extensive reputation for his skills in baking bread.
Those grateful for having shared his zest for life include his wife, Reta; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and John Porter of Yankton; three grandchildren, Valerie (Porter) and Russ Hanson of Pierre, Jerime and Cynthia of Rapid City and Zachary of Yankton; and one great-granddaughter, Kylee Quinn Hanson, with whom he loved to share Coke and ice cream; a brother, W.G. Lathem of Bee Branch, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Bruce Baumann of Perryton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Sylba Williams of Flint, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ray Lathem; and a sister, Nell Baumann.
