Carolyn Corr
Carolyn Edna (Lien) Corr, age 75, passed away on June 18th, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Miller, SD. Her funeral services will be held on June 25th, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miller with Pastor Mary Ann Sheldon officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest at the Summit cemetery in Summit, SD following these services. There will be no visitation prior to the service and no luncheon following, per Carolyn’s request. Carolyn Edna Lien was born on June 26, 1935, in Monrovia, CA to Edna (Jacobson) and Carl E. Lien. She attended school in Summit and was a cheerleader for the Eagles, graduating in 1953. Following graduation she taught in a country school near Summit for one year. She loved music, played trombone, taught herself to play piano, and sang at many functions, mostly alto and sometimes even tenor. She also loved to read, especially the Bible. Carolyn was a life-long and devoted member of the Methodist church.
Carolyn E. Lien and Odon E. Corr were united in marriage on October 2, 1954. Together they had 4 children, Jodie, Nancy, Greg, and Karie. She graduated with a teaching certificate in 1960 from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD and after the birth of her last child; she continued her schooling and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huron College in 1973. Carolyn taught in Custer, SD for 2 years and then took on the challenge of teaching 2nd grade in Miller for several years. A move to Steele, ND in 1981 brought her the opportunity for a new work experience with the Farmers Home Administration where she was employed for 10 years.
Of all the places Carolyn lived, Miller eventually became her favorite place to call home and she chose to spend her retirement years here surrounded by so many good friends. She also touched many lives during her 2 year employment at Experience Works, ending in 2009. Carolyn enjoyed playing cards, doing crosswords, board games, shooting pool, and doing handiwork for others, especially crochet. She loved to spend time with family and friends and was a wonderful conversationalist.
Carolyn is survived by her 4 children: Jodie (Michael) Dirksen, Mason City, IA; Nancy Froning, Miller, SD; Gregory Corr, Whitehall, MT; and Karie Waters, Wessington Springs, SD. Carolyn had a special place in her heart for each one of her grandchildren: Blake (Rachael), Riley, and Margaret Dirksen; Amber (Kevin) Froning Werdel; Jerrica and Keaton Corr; Shawn (Jesse) Waters Block, Weston and Matt Waters. Carolyn is also survived by her brothers Ronald (Maxine) Lien, Vancouver, WA and Robert (Cheri) Lien, Aberdeen, SD.
She is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Edna Lien and her son-in-law David Froning.
Rembold Funeral Home of St. Lawrence has been entrusted with Carolyn’s arrangements.
Herb Russell
January 9, 1927 - September 1, 2011
Herb Russell, 84, of Miller, died Thursday, September 1 at his home in Miller. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller with Pastor Bob Ohnstad officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service all at Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence. Burial will be at the G.A.R. cemetery in Miller.
Herbert Russell was born January 9, 1927 to Lilburn and Maebell (Chase) Russell at Miller. He grew up in Hand County, attending school until the 8th grade. Herb joined the Navy, serving during World War II on the USS ROI.
On April 12, 1953 Herb married
Eileen Renner. They lived in Jackson, Michigan for a short time where Herb worked at a tire plant. Herb and Eileen then moved back to Miller and Herb worked for Tri-State Insulation and Ree Electric. Herb worked for Ree Electric for 24 years. He was also self employed as an electrician for many years.
Herb was a member of the Miller Fire Department for 19 years, and a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Tri-County Sams Club for 22 years serving as assistant director for 8 years.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Miller; children, Larry (Jane) Russell of Rapid City, Dennis (Bev) Russell of Huron, Bev (Terry) Jenner of Coleman, and Marty Russell of Coleman; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Ken) Tonsager of Hartford, SD; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bev, and brothers, William and Lilburn Jr.
Donna Campbell
March 26, 1938 - July 3, 2011
Donna M. Campbell, 73, of Harrisburg, Oregon, formerly of St. Lawrence, died Sunday, July 3rd at her home in Harrisburg, Oregon. Donnas funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 13 at Rembold Funeral Home with Rev. David Belzer officiating. Burial will be at G.A.R. cemetery.
Donna Nielsen was born to the late George and Margaret Nielsen on March 26, 1938 in Miller, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm and married
the late LeRoy Campbell in 1954. They lived together in the Hand County, South Dakota area for most of their married
years. Donna was a farm wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked outside the home at times but considered her family to be her lifes calling. Donna was a great gardener, planting a huge garden each year on the farm. She loved canning, baking, cooking for her family, and always seemed to have extra guests at her table during her farming years in South Dakota. Her work ethic served as a role model for her children.
Donna moved to Harrisburg, Oregon in 1997 where she resided for the next 14 years in her home next door to her oldest daughter, Sheila. She loved the Willamette Valleys abundance of fruits and vegetables and made wonderful jams and jellies each year. She enjoyed her flower garden and watching the birds outside her window at her bird feeders. She was an avid garage sale enthusiast and her children all have treasures from her garage sale outings to prove it.
Donna is survived by five children: Sheila (Ben) Rediger, Sherry (Jeff) Fanning both of Harrisburg, OR, Sharlene (Lee) Skinner of Halsey, OR, Shawn (Lenny) Searls of Gresham, OR, daughter-in-law Heidi Bailey of Mitchell, SD, and one son Gerald (Becky) Campbell of Harrisburg, OR. She also is survived by nine grandchildren: Derek Fanning, Jack (Crystal) Fanning, Katrina (Rich) Damon, Jered (Myranda) Rediger, Chase (Stephanie) Skinner, and Megan Campbell, Collin Rediger, Mallory Campbell and Max Campbell all of Harrisburg, Lyndsay Skinner of Lincoln City, and six great-grandchildren (Samantha, Alyssa, and Thad Fanning, Travis Fanning, Cole and Ty Damon). Donna is also survived by sisters Doris Landeen of Sioux Falls, SD, Alice (Paul) Engelmann of Miller, SD, Gleva Schlotter of Redfield, SD and brother Marvin (Delores) Nielsen of Custer, SD and sisters-in-law Valores (Larry) Hewitt of Beavercreek, OR, Velma (Gordon) Bennett of Austin, TX, Lorna Campbell of Clarkston, WA, and Sharon Campbell of St. Lawrence, SD, and brothers-in-law Garland (Karen) Campbell of Crestview, FL, Gary (Betty) Campbell of Cottonwood, ID.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Marilyn Perschbacher and Elaine Spicer and two brothers-in-law, Dale Campbell and Spencer Campbell, two sons Delvin and George, two grandchildren Toni Rediger and Terrence Skinner, a great grandson M.J. Rediger.
Robert Walter Roach
December 7, 1920 - September 14, 2011
Robert Walter Roach, 90, of St. Paul, Minnesota, formerly of Rockham, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in the Comfort of Home Assisted Living in St. Paul, Minnesota. Robert’s funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Miller with Fr. Chester Murtha officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the funeral at the church. Burial will follow at G.A.R. cemetery in Miller.
Robert was born on December 7, 1920, to Walter and Margaret Roach of Rockham. He had one brother Stanley. After graduating from high school, he worked on the family farm.
He married
Opal Jean DeGeest on February 21, 1944. They farmed and raised five daughters together south of Rockham. Robert loved farming and felt there was no better way to make a living. Robert and Opal enjoyed 67 years together.
Over the years, they hosted many pheasant hunters and made many lifelong friends. Pheasant hunting was one of the highlights of Robert’s life. He was an avid member of the Wall Lake Hunting Club.
After they retired from the farm they moved to Miller and enjoyed many adventurous trips with special friends. Robert was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Opal of St. Paul, MN; five daughters, Connie (Bob) Haigh of Miller, Cheryle (Steve) O’Connell of Beloit, WI, Bobbie Sargent of New Richmond, WI, Debbie (Mike) Doyle of St. Paul, Susan Carlsten of St. Paul; 12 grandchildren, Tonya Haigh Little, Terri Haigh Nelson, Mandy O’Connell, Brendan O’Connell, Chad Sargent, Troy Sargent, Michelle Doyle Helling, Carrie Doyle, Danielle Doyle Broxey, Jake Carlsten, Jesse Carlsten, Molly Carlsten; 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Gary 'Gabby' Gabriel
May 23, 1941 - June 17, 2011
Gary "Gabby" Gabriel, 70, of Miller, died Friday, June 17 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital. Garys memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Huron.
Gary Ray Gabriel was born May 23, 1941 to Frank R. and Imogene (Holcomb) Gabriel in Redfield, SD.
He spent the first five years of his life in Rockham, SD. From there his family moved to Miller, SD where he spent his childhood. In 1956, he moved with his family to Huron, SD and finished high school there.
After graduation, he took to the road pursuing a career in music. He was a traveling musician for many years with several bands. His efforts paid off and earned him a place in the Midwest Rock N Roll Hall of Fame with the band The Green Men. He truly enjoyed entertaining and continued to play music throughout his life.
He eventually made his way back home to South Dakota where he met and married
Irene Kuper. They were married
on June 18, 1969 in Long Prairie, MN. They moved to Appleton, WI to start their family. Four sons were born from their union. They moved several more times throughout the marriage. One of the happiest times in their lives was living in Layton, Utah in a beautiful home in the mountains. At that time, Gary was a successful businessman. Eventually, the family moved back to South Dakota. Gary was a man of many trades, no matter what he did, he was good at it. During the last 20 years he sold insurance and drove truck for a mail route until he retired.
He is survived by sons Justin of Huron, Michael of Miller, and Mark and his granddaughter Keara Ray of Huron, four sisters Rita Rudloff and Mary Jane (George) Wilson both of Huron, Gloria Clarke, of Ottertail, MN, and Susan Rasmussen of Kaukauna, WI, also his father Frank R Gabriel of Cresbard, SD.
He is preceded in death by his son Darren, his mother Imogene Marsh, his step-father Lloyd Marsh, his brother-in-laws Edward Rudloff, Rodger Clarke and Alan Rasmussen.

Margaret Clement
1945-2013
Margaret Louise Clement, 68, of Raymond, Iowa, formerly of Miller, S.D., died at home on Monday, July 8, 2013.
A memorial mass was held Friday, July 12 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, Iowa. Her body has been cremated and will be interred in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
She was born February 1, 1945, in Alexandria, Ill., daughter of James and Verna Flynn. She married
James Clement, on June 4, 1969, in Rapid City, S.D.
Margaret was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother who spread happiness wherever she went.
She is survived by her husband, James; two sons, Thomas (Lisa Nettleton) Clement of Peshtigo, Wis., and Joseph (Rachel) Clement.
Dolorous ‘Dolly’ Muth
Dolorous Muth, 104, of Sturgis, S.D., and formerly of St. Lawrence, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care in Sturgis.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller with Pastor Scot Tutt officiating. Inurnment will follow at the St. Lawrence cemetery.
Dolorous Dehart was born to Ida and Ora (Ray) Dehart near Sullivan, Ill., on April 8, 1908.
Aileen Gerdes
Aileen Gerdes, 88, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 1, at the First United Methodist Church, Miller with Pastor Mark Johnsen officiating. Burial followed at G.A.R. cemetery, Miller.
Aileen was born April 20, 1925 in Miller to Joe and Meryle (Biddle) Roalstad. When she was four years old, her family moved to a farm 5 ˝ miles west of Miller.
Doris I. Jensen
Doris I. Jensen, 100, of Chamberlain, died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 27, at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview cemetery at Chamberlain.
Doris I. Jensen was born May 4, 1913 to John and Ida (Graeff) Fulton on the farm near Trent, S.D. She was the third youngest of eight children. She attended school at Trent.
Keith L. DeRouchey
1931-2013
Keith L. DeRouchey, age 81 of Elk Point, S.D. died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Prairie Estates Care Center, Elk Point. Cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held locally. Burial of Keith’s cremated remains and military rites will be in the Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. at a later date. Arrangements are pending under the care of the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, S.D.
Albertha Mogle

Albertha Mogle, 88, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller with Pastor Fred Rosin officiating. Burial followed at G.A.R. cemetery, Miller.
Albertha was born on October 6, 1924 in Pollack, S.D., to Adam and Magdalena (Hochhalter) Ketterling. She grew up on a farm in Wishek, N.D., and this is where she met and married
her husband.
Rod Siegling
1949-2013
Rod Siegling, 63, of Redfield, S.D. died Monday, June 3, 2013 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 8, at United Church of Christ in Redfield with the Revs Tim Fugman and Brian Jones officiating. Interment was at Greenlawn cemetery.
He was born December 1, 1949 to Kenneth and Arlene (Roeber) Siegling in Redfield. Rod lived in Burdette, S.D. and attended Burdette Country School.
James Aalbers
1946-2013
James Aalbers, 66, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Ave ra McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Private family services will take place at a later date.
James Roger was born July 27, 1946 on the family farm south of St. Lawrence to Gradus and Florine (Blackburn) Aalbers. He attended school in Pearl Township and later St. Lawrence High School. On October 16, 1967 he married
Linda Reck in McClusky, North Dakota.
