She also attended Southern Normal College in Springfield, South Dakota from 1941-1942, from which she received her two year teaching degree. For two years, Jeanette taught grades one through eight and Girls Glee Club in a one-room school near Gayville, South Dakota. When back home in Geddes, she met a handsome young teacher (Bert) who happened to room in her mothers home, and a loving relationship of 60+ years ensued. In the fall of 1942, she traveled by train to the Army- Air Force Base at Victoria, Texas to marry Captain Bert T. Rude, Jr. They were married
in the base chapel on November 1 of that year. To this union, four children were born: Bert Theron, III, Jeannine, Jill and Elizabeth. Jeanette was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed reading, growing plants and flowers, writing poetry and helping others of all ages, especially children. She loved listening to music of many styles and singing alto harmony, all of which provided great enjoyment and comfort to her up until her death. Even after she could no longer speak, she was able to accurately hum the melodies of songs she knew. We will greatly miss her clear alto voice, her brilliant smile, her contagious laughter, her wit and her little dance while enjoying family gatherings.
