Carl DeChelley Claymore
Fort Yates, N.D. - Carl DeChelley Claymore, 18, of Fort Yates died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, near Fort Yates from injuries received in an auto accident.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. CDT Tuesday at the BIA Old School Gym in Fort Yates. George Moufort and Medicine Man Pat Janis will officiate.
Burial will be at 4 p.m. CDT Wednesday at the Sid Claymore homestead. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
An all-night wake service will begin at 7 p.m. CDT Monday at the gym.
Ernest Mertz Sr.
Bowdle - Ernest Mertz Sr., 86, of Bowdle died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the Bowdle Nursing Home.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bowdle. The Rev. Mike Schierenbeck will officiate.
Burial will be in Redeemer Lutheran Church cemetery in Bowdle with Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Erwin F. Ellwein
Ipswich - The funeral for Erwin F. Ellwein, 87, of Ipswich will be at 11 a.m. today at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ipswich. The Rev. Raymond Pomplun will officiate.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. today in Morningside cemetery in Roscoe with military rites by Elstad Archer American Legion Post No. 67 of Ipswich. Gramm-Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
He died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Ipswich.
Erwin F. Ellwein was born April 12, 1915, to Gottlieb and Sophia (Hafner) Ellwein near Roscoe. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools. He entered the U.S. Army on March 24, 1941, and served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was honorably discharged Oct. 14, 1945, and returned to the family farm.
He married
Cornelia "Cornie" Mayer on May 12, 1947, in Roscoe. They made their home on the family farm. They farmed there until retiring in 1977, when they moved to Ipswich.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ipswich and was active in church activities. He was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roscoe.
Following retirement from the farm he spent much of his time hunting, fishing and traveling extensively with his wife. He spent many hours doing woodcrafts and building furniture.
Survivors include his wife of Ipswich; two sons, Leon (Sarah) Ellwein of Chevy Chase, Md., and Neil (Mary) Ellwein of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two daughters, Susie (Jon) Elsea of Libertyville, Ill., and Cindy Ellwein of Pierre; one sister, Leah Wilber of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and four great-grand- children.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Casketbearers will be Jake Volk, David Bauer, Jerry Leidholt, Franklin Mayer, Howard Mayer and Raymond Schmaltz.
Roger A. Ganser
Aberdeen - The memorial service for Roger A. Ganser, 64, of Aberdeen will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St. The Rev. Ronald Laue will officiate.
Burial will be in Green Mound cemetery in Leola at a later date.
He died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, of cancer.
Roger Allen Ganser was born March 28, 1938, to Leo Joseph and Eva (Frank) Ganser in McPherson County near Leola. He grew up and attended school in the area. He worked for the City of Aberdeen for 28 years before retiring on March 17, 1995.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 590 of Aberdeen and the Eagles Club Lodge F.O.E.
Survivors include two sons, James (Wendy) Ganser of Rapid City and Jeffrey Ganser of Aberdeen; three daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Kinder of Aberdeen, Bonnie (Ben) Sharten of St. Francis, Minn., and Patty (Darwin) Behinke of Rapid City; one brother, Leroy Ganser of Sunnyside, Wash.; one sister, Marge Heibel of Martinez, Calif.; his mother of Aberdeen; three grandchildren, and special friend, Donna Engel of Aberdeen.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Bernita J. Graves
Aberdeen - Bernita J. Graves, 87, of Aberdeen died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor.
Arrangements are pending with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.
Ruby Mae Hetterley
Sioux Falls - The funeral for Ruby Mae Hetterley, 82, of Sioux Falls and formerly of McLaughlin and Lemmon, will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday at Prairie Hills Church of God in Lemmon. The Rev. T.J. Schockley will officiate.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the McLaughlin cemetery with Evanson Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m.
today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
She died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Covington Heights Care Center in Sioux Falls.
Ruby Mae Golly was born June 25, 1920, to Robert and Mae (Elliot) Golly in the Alta Vista, Iowa, area. Her mother died at childbirth and she was raised by her uncle and aunt, Ervin and Effie Miller. She took the name of Ruby Mae Miller. She attended school in McLaughlin, where she graduated in 1938. She worked for a local doctor until her marriage.
She married
Fred E. Hetterley on July 3, 1940, in McIntosh. They lived on several farm locations in the McLaughlin area. She returned to work at the McLaughlin Hospital until it closed and then worked in the McLaughlin clinic for a time. After retirement they lived in the McLaughlin area. Following his death in 1991, she moved to Lemmon to be near her daughter. She moved to an assisted living facility in Sioux Falls in August 1996 and to Covington Heights in June 1999.
She enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn (Duane) Wohl of Renner; two sons Lyle (Donna) Hetterley of Bailey, Colo., and Arlan Hetterley of Mesquite, Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Donald William Schaeffer
McLaughlin - Mass of Christian burial for Donald William Schaeffer, 71, of rural McLaughlin will be at 11 a.m. CDT Tuesday at the Spirit of Life Church in Mandan, N.D. The Rev. Cyprian Meier will officiate.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. CDT Tuesday in the UCC cemetery in McLaughlin with the Rev. Steve Biegler officiating. Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
A scriptural wake service will be at 7 CDT tonight at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. CDT until the conclusion of the prayer service tonight at the funeral home in Mobridge and for one hour prior to the funeral Tuesday at the church in Mandan.
He died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Indian Health Services Hospital in Fort Yates, N.D.
Donald William Schaeffer was born Dec. 1, 1930, to George and Eva (Engel) Schaeffer in Dickinson, N.D. He farmed and ranched in the Selfridge, N.D., area all his life.
He married
Violet Litzau on June 12, 1950. They made their home on a ranch north of McLaughlin.
He was chairman of the board of the Mor Gran Sou Electric. He served on the Farmers Union Board, Selfridge Rural Fire District, Cedar Soil District and Sioux County Water Board. He received an Outstanding Young Farmer Award, Selfridge Pioneer Award and Cedar Soil Conservation District Farm of the Year.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Robert) Lincoln of Spokane, Wash., and Connie Schaeffer of McLaughlin; five sons, Jeff (Mariann) Schaeffer of Selfridge, Jerry Schaeffer and Clay (Karen) Schaeffer, both of McLaughlin, Steve (Bernadette) Schaeffer of Beulah, N.D., and Scott (Jan) Schaeffer of New Prague, Minn.; two brothers, George Schaeffer of McLaughlin and Tony Schaeffer of Waverly, Neb.; three sisters, Dolores Fiechtner of Lynnwood, Wash., Norma Linder of Mandan and Jeanette Jachetta of Brighton, Colo.; special friend, Gertie Kraft of Mandan; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Schaeffer, Jerry Schaeffer, Clay Schaeffer, Steve Schaeffer, Scott Schaeffer and Robert Lincoln.
Mary Rohrich
Strasburg, N.D. - Mary Rohrich, 98, of Strasburg and formerly of Linton, N.D., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Strasburg Care Center.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. The Rev. Bruce Krebs will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Myers Funeral Home in Linton in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Mary Senger was born Jan. 10, 1904, to Anton A. and Marion (Eisemzimmer) Senger east of Linton. Her family was one of the first five Germans from Russia families to homestead in Emmons County. She attended rural school.
She married
Joseph K. Rohrich on Oct. 6, 1925. They made their home on a farm east of Strasburg. In 1941, they moved to a farm east of Linton. They retired and moved into Linton in 1967. He died in 1988. She entered the Strasburg Care Center Feb. 27, 1991.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton and Christian Mothers.
She enjoyed traveling, crocheting and cooking.
Survivors include six sons, F.C. "Clem" (Shirley) Rohrich of Linton, Claude (Katherine) Rohrich of Zeeland, N.D., Irvin (Delores) Rohrich of Seattle, Roger (Sandy) Rohrich of Woodenville, Wash., Clarence Rohrich of Ashfork, Ariz., and Wilbert (Sandi) Rohrich of Everett, Wash.; three daughters, Irene Penoske of Milwaukee, Lorraine Chies of Minneapolis and Yolanda (Connie) Van Alstine of Waterford, Wis.; one sister, Julia Richter of Lodi, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and four sisters.
Casketbearers will be Ray Senger, Alvin Kelsch, Tony Kelsch, Al Dosch, Leo Roehrich and Willie Ibach.
Albert Raymond Baumgartner
Hague, N.D. - Albert Raymond Baumgartner, 80, of Hague died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hague. The Rev. Leonard Eckroth will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Strasburg, N.D., Veterans of Foreign Wars. Myers Funeral Home of Linton, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Linton.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Hague.
Albert Raymond Baumgartner was born June 10, 1922, to John and Marie (Geil-fus) Baumgartner in Strasburg. He attended rural school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war for nine months. He returned to Strasburg after his honorable discharge in 1946.
He married
Christine Deringer on Jan. 12, 1948, in Krassna, N.D. They farmed in the Strasburg-Hague area until they moved to Bismarck in 1966, where he worked as a welder for Melroe until retiring in 1976. They moved back to Hague in 1982. They spent the last 12 years wintering in Tucson, Ariz.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Hague Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed wintering in Tucson, fishing for northern pike and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of Hague; five sons, Leo (Wilma) Baumgartner of Mercer, N.D., Tom Baumgartner of Eagle, Colo., Jerry (Pat) Baumgartner of Eden Prairie, Minn., Ron (Janice) Baumgartner of Aurora, Colo., and Paul Baumgartner of Commerce City, Colo.; two daughters, Jane (Wally) Borr and Shirley (Joe) Glass, both of Bismarck; three brothers, Pius Baumgartner of Strasburg, Jake Baumgartner of Bismarck and Pete Baumgartner of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, one brother and three sisters.
Casketbearers will be Chris Glass, Robert Borr, Mike Baumgartner, Cory Baumgartner, Terry Baumgartner and Jason Baumgartner.
