Hilda Schiermeister

Hazelton, N.D. -- The funeral for Hilda Schiermeister will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hazelton. The Rev. Eugene Roecker will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Bismarck, N.D. Myers Funeral Home in Linton, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Linton and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Hazelton.

She died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at her home.

Hilda Schmidt was born July 24, 1917, to Peter and Johanna (Wohl) Schmidt on a farm near Temvik, N.D. When she was a child, the family moved to a farm seven miles north of Hazelton. She attended rural schools.

She married Walter Schiermeister on Sept. 16, 1934, in Linton. They made their home on his family farm west of Temvik. In 1937, they bought the Langer Ranch 14 miles northwest of Hazelton. They bought a home in Hazelton in 1947, and he continued to ranch until his death on July 17, 1975.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hazelton, where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was also a member of Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one son, Leo (Dorinda) Schiermeister of Hazelton; three grandchildren; and three great-grand- children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, five brothers and four sisters.

Casketbearers will be Herb Werner, Alan Schmidt, Ervin Schiermeister, Richard Schmidt, John Feller and Kenneth Feller.

Dale L. Hoffman

Hartford -- Dale L. Hoffman, 42, of Hartford and formerly of Leola, died of heart failure Friday, April 20, 2001 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Burial will be in the Hartford cemetery. George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls is in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with family present from 4 to 7 p.m.

Dale L. Hoffman was born June 19, 1958, to Luther and Delores (Feickert) Hoffman in Leola. He attended a country school in Arena Township for three years and then went to Leola Public School, graduating in 1976. He graduated from South Dakota State University at Brookings in 1980. He worked for the Farm Credit Association in Ivanhoe, Minn., and then in Marshall, Minn., from 1985 to 1992.

He married Anita M. Faulds on Aug. 16, 1986, at Ivanhoe. They moved to Hartford in 1992. He worked for Western Bank in Sioux Falls and was currently employed as a loan officer at Home Federal Savings Bank in Hartford.

He enjoyed helping on the family farm where he grew up. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of Hartford; two daughters, Kelsey Jo Hoffman and Robin Marie Hoffman, both of Hartford; his parents of Leola; one brother, Brian Hoffman of Leola; three sisters, Marcia Hoffman-DeVoe of Anchorage, Alaska, Sandra Rueb of Plentywood, Mont., and Jenny Sullivan of Marshall.

Elsie P. Oe

Aberdeen -- Mass of Christian burial for Elsie P. Oe, 87, of 1700 N. U.S. Highway 281 will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 N. Arch St. The Rev. Gregory Tschakert will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A rosary service will be at 6:30 tonight at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, all at the mortuary.

She died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Aberdeen Living Center.

Elsie P. Rogers was born Oct. 18, 1913, to James and Pearl (Neil) Rogers in Isabel, where she attended school.

She married Alfred G. Oe on Feb. 17, 1930, in Woonsocket. They lived in Woonsocket until moving to Aberdeen in 1943. He died in 1972, and she had lived at the Aberdeen Living Center since 1989.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Schaible of Colorado Springs, Colo., JoAnne (John) Eckert of Canton, Margaret Gisi and Theresa (Pat) Kuckelburg, both of Aberdeen, and Janice (Rodney) Johnson of Webster; one son, Edward D. Oe of La Mirada, Calif.; one brother, Robert Rogers of Deadwood; one sister, Dorothy Rogers of Oregon; 21 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, Jim Gisi, Tom Gisi, Joe Gisi, John Eckert, Bill Eckert and Mark Stern.

Irma Smith

Ipswich -- The funeral for Irma Smith, 75, of Ipswich will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 1732 S. Main St. in Aberdeen. The Rev. Dennis Hansen will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Aberdeen. The Hein Funeral Home of Ipswich is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

She died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Irma Glaseman was born Jan. 12, 1926, to John and Mary (Stern) Glaseman in Ashley, N.D. She attended rural school there. She worked on various farms until she moved to Aberdeen. She then worked at Roth's Cafe, The Flame and Aberdeen Country Club.

She married Alvin O. Smith on Oct. 14, 1951, in Aberdeen. She worked at Tiffany's Laundry and then at the Dakota Midland Hospital. In 1987 they moved to Ipswich. He died in 1987. She continued to live in Ipswich.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Wanner of Burnsville, Minn., and Glenda Thorsgaard of Mesa, Ariz.; one son, Lonnie Smith of Aberdeen; three sisters, Ida Feil of Redmond, Ore., Ella Feil of Ipswich and Viola Heinrich of Ashley; two brothers, Edwin Glaseman of Ipswich and Willis Glaseman of Aberdeen; six grand-children; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandsons and one brother.

Casketbearers will be Brandon Wanner of Burnsville, Willis Glaseman of Aberdeen, Rodney Glaseman of New Market, Minn., Steven Glaseman of Bismarck, N.D., Ricky Heinrich of Ashley and Todd Johnson of Duluth, Minn.

Emil Schaffer

Herreid -- The funeral for Emil Schaffer, 84, of Herreid will be at 2 p.m. today at the Reformed Church of Eureka. The Rev. Darrell Kingswood will officiate.

Burial will be in the city cemetery at Eureka. Straub's Funeral Home of Eureka is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.

Emil Schaffer was born July 11, 1916, to Michael and Karolina (Zeller) Schaffer in rural Campbell County.

He married Mathilda Heiser on Oct. 19, 1944, in Mound City. They lived on a farm 16 miles west of Eureka since 1944. He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of the Reformed Church of Eureka.

He enjoyed farming and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of Herreid; five sons, Roger Schaffer of Eclectic, Ala., Allen Schaffer of Herreid, Lester Schaffer of Sioux Falls, Dan Schaffer of Aberdeen and Randy Schaffer of Wahpeton, N.D.; five daughters, Phyliss (Paul) Erdmann of Wetonka, Linda (David) Huft and Carol (John) Becker, both of Pierre, Margie (Aaron) Rau of Kief, N.D., and Nora Schaffer of Aberdeen; three brothers, Christ Schaeffer of Herreid, Henry Schaffer of Mound City and Albert Schaffer of Eureka; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be Myron Mettler, Craig Schaffer, Stanley Schaffer, James Erdmann, Michael Erdmann and Jason Erdmann.

Betty (Frazier) Schwartz

North Hollywood, Calif. -- Betty (Frazier) Schwartz, 75, of North Hollywood and formerly of the Brentford and Mellette area, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, Calif.

Memorial services were April 1.

Betty Frazier was born May 7, 1925, to Vaughn and Grace (Arnold) Frazier in Mellette. After her mother died in 1927, she lived with her grandparents, George and Ada Frazier, in Brentford. She graduated from Brentford High School in 1943. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Los Angeles.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Webb, David Schwartz and Jack Schwartz, all of the Los Angeles area, two half-brothers, Ronald Frazier and Terry Frazier, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; one half-sister, Sherry McManus of Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, her grandparents, her husband, one son and one half-brother.

Carolina Gabriel

Ipswich -- Mass of Christian burial for Carolina Gabriel, 87, of Ipswich will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ipswich. The Rev. Thomas Clement will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich in charge of arrangements.

A prayer and rosary service will be at 5 tonight at the church.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. There will also be visitation from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the church and for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

She died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her home.

Carolina Barbara Meier was born Dec. 9, 1913, to Wendlin and Helena (Schmidt) Meier on a farm southwest of Roscoe. She attended rural school there.

She married Bernard Gabriel on Sept. 14, 1930. They lived in Onaka for more than 50 years, where she helped run Gabriel Produce and Gabriel Gravel Company. In 1989, they moved into Ipswich. He died in 1992. She continued to live in Ipswich.

She was a member of an altar society in Onaka and was a charter member of the Onaka Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Gladys (Melvin) Schumacher of Hoven and Lorraine (Clem) Binfet of Ipswich; two brothers, Paul Meier of Rapid City and Joe Meier of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and five brothers.

Casketbearers will be Gary Meier of Aberdeen, Robert W. Lehman, Travis Miller and Robert B. Lehman, all of Canton, Donald Miller of Ipswich and Bruce Schumacher of Hoven.

Wilma Eleanor Whitmore Allen

Paradise, Calif. -- The funeral for Wilma Eleanor Whitmore Allen, 85, of Paradise and formerly of Aberdeen, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. The Rev. Harold E. Salem will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside cemetery in Aberdeen.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

She died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Cypress Acres Convalescent Hospital in Paradise.

Wilma Eleanor Whitmore was born Oct. 31, 1915, to Frank W. and Hattie E. (Kuni) Whitmore in Huron. She graduated from Simmons School in Aberdeen and Gradwahl School of Laboratory Technicians in St. Louis, where she received a degree as an X-ray and laboratory technician. She moved to Casper, Wyo., to continue her education and complete her residency.

She married Merle K. Allen in Casper. During World War II, she was a guard and linguist for the U.S. Army in San Leandro, Calif. Following the war, she returned to the medical field working for the Alameda County Health Department in Hayward, Calif., and San Francisco General Hospital in that city. She retired from Kaiser Hospitals in Bellflower, Calif., where she lived for 26 years. She was a volunteer with hospice there for more than a decade.

She was a member of the Christian Women's Club in Paradise and was a lifelong Baptist.

While living in San Francisco during the 1960s, she attended art school and became an accomplished artist, showing and selling her paintings in San Francisco and Santa Cruz galleries. She also worked in leather, shells and origami. She and her husband traveled throughout America and visited Rome, Israel, Greece and the Caribbean Islands.

Survivors include her husband of Farina, Ill.; two sons, Bryan K. Allen of Pearl, Miss., and David F. Allen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials are preferred to North Plains Hospice, 305 S. State St., Aberdeen, S.D. 57401.

William Verlin' Giblin

Parkston -- William 'Verlin' Giblin, 75, of Parkston died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.

Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery in Mitchell with military rites. Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell is in charge of arrangements.

A scripture reading will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel in Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel in Mitchell with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

William Giblin was born April 30, 1925, to William and Goldie (Sadler) Giblin in Wagner.

He married Dorothy Sizemore on July 11, 1952, in Wall Lake, Mich. He had Giblin Painting for 45 years.

Survivors include his wife of Parkston; three sons, Dennis (Diane) Giblin of Aberdeen and Michael Giblin and Kevin Giblin, both of Parkston; one brother, Cletus 'Jack' Giblin of Mitchell; one sister, Catherine Smith of Mitchell; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two sisters and one grandson.
