Doris Edna Fink
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Doris Edna Fink, 84, of 2222 Third Ave. S.E. will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 502 S. Lincoln St. The Rev. Carol Iwerks will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the mortuary and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
She died Friday, April 20, 2001, at her residence.
Doris Edna Keaton was born Jan. 31, 1917, to Theodore and Clara (Orwal) Keaton in Pingree, N.D. She attended elementary school in Pingree and graduated from Jamestown High School in Jamestown, N.D.
She married
Andrew Larson in 1934 in Jamestown. He died in 1935.
She married
Melvin Winning in 1935 in Jamestown. He died, and she moved to Portland, Ore.
She married
Henry P. Fink in 1941. They lived in Burtrum, Minn., where they started the Hub Supper Club, which they owned and operated for 23 years. They retired and moved to Henry, Neb. In 1985 they moved to Aberdeen.
She enjoyed computer games, cooking and sewing.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeane (Pius) Reis of Aberdeen and Carol (Bud) Brandt of Big Stone City; one sister, Donna Ford of Sun City, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, one great-great-grandson and one brother.
Casketbearers will be grandsons, Dale Brandt, Dave Taylor, Sonny Kaiser, Lyle Moser, Wayne Anderson and Tony Schwan.
Frances Reiss
Trail City -- Mass of Christian burial for Frances Reiss, 79, of Trail City will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT today at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. The Rev. Peter Kovarik will officiate.
Burial will be in the Trial City cemetery. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church in Trail City.
She died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.
Frances Anna Schell was born June 13, 1921, to James and Barbara (Klein) Schell in Hague, N.D. As a child she moved with her family to a farm northwest of Trail City, where she grew up. She attended the Reinbold Rural Grade School and later Trail City High School. Following her education she did housekeeping work in the Trail City area.
She married
Adam Reiss on May 19, 1941, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. They made their home with his parents for about one year before moving to a farm four miles east of Trail City, where they lived, farmed and raised their family. In January 2001 she moved to the Prairie Sunset Village at Mobridge, where she had since resided.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
She enjoyed living on the farm and watching and feeding wildlife.
Survivors include one daughter, Arlene (Tom) Wiggins of Raytown, Mo.; four sons, Raymond (Shirley) Reiss of Pollock, Marvin (Joan) Reiss of Wessington Springs, Ralph (JoAnn) Reiss of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Harvey (Gloria) Reiss of Mason City, Iowa; two brothers, William Schell of Mobridge and Paul Schell of Mandan, N.D.; one sister, Magdalene McLean of Northville, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and one grandson.
Casketbearers will be Brian Reiss, Michael Reiss, Kevin Reiss, Mark Reiss, Greg Gesinger and Tommy Ray Wiggins.
Emil Shaffer
Herreid -- The funeral for Emil Shaffer, 84, of Herreid will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Reformed Church of Eureka. The Rev. Darrell Kingswood will officiate.
Burial will be in the city cemetery at Eureka. Straub's Funeral Home of Eureka is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, all at the funeral home. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
He died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.
Emil Shaffer was born July 11, 1916, to Michael and Karolina (Zeller) Shaffer in rural Campbell County.
He married
Mathilda Heiser on Oct. 19, 1944, in Mound City. They lived on a farm 16 miles west of Eureka since 1944. He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of the Reformed Church of Eureka.
He enjoyed farming and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Herreid; five sons, Roger Shaffer of Eclectic, Ala., Allen Shaffer of Herreid, Lester Shaffer of Sioux Falls, Dan Shaffer of Aberdeen and Randy Shaffer of Wahpeton, N.D.; five daughters, Phyliss (Paul) Erdmann of Wetonka, Linda (David) Huft and Carol (John) Becker, both of Pierre, Margie (Aaron) Rau of Kief, N.D., and Nora Shaffer of Aberdeen; three brothers, Christ Shaeffer of Herreid, Henry Shaffer of Mound City and Albert Shaffer of Eureka; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
Casketbearers will be Myron Mettler, Craig Shaffer, Stanley Shaffer, James Erdmann, Michael Erdmann and Jason Erdmann.
Jason A. Edinger
McIntosh -- The funeral for Jason A. Edinger, 27, of McIntosh will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in McIntosh. The Rev. Steve Biegler and Monsignor William O'Connell will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home of Lemmon is in charge of arrangements.
A rosary service will be at 7 tonight at the church.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home in Lemmon and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church in McIntosh.
He died as the result of an automobile accident east of McIntosh on Saturday, April 21, 2001.
Aaron 'Shorty' Rencountre (Esto Si Wakinya)
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Aaron 'Shorty' Rencountre (Esto Si Wakinya), 72, of 221 S. Greenwood St. will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Thompson. The Rev. Yvon Sheehy will officiate.
Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception cemetery at Stephen. Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., Aber-deen, is in charge of arrangements.
A two-day wake will be at Fort Thompson.
He died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Aaron Lars Rencountre was born Dec. 27, 1928, to Bert and Margaret (Noble) Rencountre at Crow Creek. He grew up and attended school in Fort Thompson. He carved statues out of trees to help make a living for his family and himself. He worked construction on the dams in the Pierre area. For the last 40 years he had lived in Aberdeen. He worked at Presentation College for two years and did construction work.
He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Thompson. He was involved with rodeos and rode on the circuit with Casey Tibbs.
Survivors include one son, Richard Rencountre of Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Maryann Garcia of Mitchell; two brothers, Whitney Rencountre and Jack Rencountre, both of Fort Thompson; one sister, Stella Pretty Sounding Flute of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, four brothers and one grandson.
Casketbearers will be Maurice Rencountre, Jerome Attikai, Dustin Hawk, Allan Rencountre, Derick Crowe and Torin Crowe.
Arnold Bauer
Warner -- The funeral for Arnold Bauer, 68, of Warner will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Warner. The Rev. Joanne Nagele will officiate.
Burial will be in the Warner Township cemetery. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, is in charge of arrangements.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home in Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Aberdeen and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
He died Friday, April 20, 2001, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen.
Arnold Bauer was born Oct. 23, 1932, to Christian and Bertha (Pfeifer) Bauer at Zeeland, N.D. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in Zeeland. After his education he worked on the family farm.
He married
Selma Orth on June 9, 1957, at Eureka. They made their home on the family farm in Zeeland for nine years. They moved to Warner in 1966, and he worked at the Warner public schools as custodian for seven years. He then went to work at Bethesda Home in Aberdeen for eight years. He worked various jobs until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Warner.
He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of Warner; one son, Paul (Jackie) Bauer of Warner; one daughter, Sharon Bauer of Lodi, Calif.; one brother, James Bauer of Jean, Nev.; one sister, Darlene Quaschnick of Mobridge; and one stepgranddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one infant sister.
Casketbearers will be Dennis Christenson, Jeff Neiger, Dennis Kirschenmann, Charles Bauer, Gerald Skramstad and Brian Kolb.
James V. Robinson
Aurora -- James V. Robinson, 61, of Aurora and formerly of Aberdeen, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Aurora.
A private funeral service will be today.
Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery at Brookings. Eidsness Funeral Home of Brookings is in charge of arrangements.
James V. Robinson was born Jan. 11, 1940, to Glenn E. and Margaret E. (Purdy) Robinson at Monmouth, Ill. He moved with his family in 1957 to Brookings, where he graduated from high school in 1958. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961 to 1967. After his discharge he worked as an aircraft mechanic in Sioux Falls, for North Central Harvestore in Aberdeen and for Big Horn Harvestore in Greeley, Colo. He returned to the Brookings area in 1986 and was employed by Marriott and later Aramark food services at South Dakota State University.
He married
Darlene Bomesberger.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He enjoyed bowling, traveling, trains and working in his yard.
Survivors include his wife of Aurora; two daughters, Tamara (Kenneth) Haskett of Wilmington, Del., and Karen Ann (Daniel) Beaner of Aberdeen; two sons, Glenn E. (Wanda) Robinson II of Jacksonville, Fla., and James V. (Amy) Robinson of Brookings; two stepchildren, Margo Bomesberger and Blake Bomesberger, both of Aberdeen; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John Groft
Ashton -- The funeral for John Groft, 80, of Ashton will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Thelen Funeral Home at Redfield. The Rev. J. Edwin Coates will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ashton cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service Thursday, all at the funeral home.
He died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
John Groft was born Jan. 20, 1921, to Roa and Elizabeth (Galvin) Groft at Athol. He grew up and attended school in Athol and farmed with his family.
He married
Alice Beardemphl on Nov. 19, 1940, in Redfield. They farmed near Ashton before moving to a farm near Frankfort. They finished their farming near Ashton, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed horses and farm life. He made models of antique machinery and horse-drawn carriages. He also made full-sized carriages for use in parades.
Survivors include his wife of Ashton; three daughters, Amelia (Glenn) Watson of Mandan, N.D., Sherry (Robert) Baloun of Redfield and Rose (David) Haselhorst of Plymouth, Minn.; and two sons, John (Patricia) Groft of Northville and James (Carol) Groft of Ashton; two sisters, Alice Nash of Aberdeen and Hazel Baseler of Yankton; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five ste pgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and an infant great-granddaughter.
Casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
