Ida Goehring
Sioux Falls -- The funeral for Ida Goehring, 79, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Mobridge, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Congregational Church in Mobridge. The Rev. Steve Ziebarth and the Rev. Bryce Hecht will officiate.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Waterford All Saints Care Center in Sioux Falls.
Burial will be Monday in Greenwood cemetery in Mobridge with Larson's Funeral Home of Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Ida Mildred Vogele was born Feb. 20, 1921, to Christ and Rose (Roesch) Vogele near Hoven. She attended Walworth County rural schools until the eighth grade, and graduated from Bowdle High School in 1938. After high school she attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, receiving a two-year teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Walworth County, as well as in schools at Bowdle and Eureka.
She married
Hugo Goehring on June 2, 1946, at her parents' home in Bowdle. They owned and operated a grocery store in Lowry. She returned to teaching and working on her bachelor's degree in education. She graduated from Northern State College in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She continued teaching in Lowry, Selby and Mobridge. She taught for a total of 33 years before retiring. They moved to Mobridge in 1976. He died in 1997. After his death she moved to Waterford All Saints Care Center in Sioux Falls to be closer to her children.
While living in Mobridge she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Cultus Club, the Oahe Teachers Retirement Association, the United Congregational Church, the Women's Fellowship, the United Circle, the Hospital Auxiliary, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Mobridge Senior Citizens. While living in Lowry and in Mobridge she was a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher for many years.
Survivors include one son, Keith Goehring of Sioux Falls; one daughter, Cheryl Stensby of Bellevue, Neb.; one sister, Velda Nelson of Fargo, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.
Casketbearers will be David Goehring, Richard Goehring, Matthew Goehring, Jesse Stensby, Travis Stensby and Lynn Holzwarth.
Roland A. Meyer
Ipswich -- The funeral for Roland A. Meyer, 86, former Ipswich businessman, will be at 2 p.m. today in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Ipswich. The Rev. Thomas Clement will officiate.
Private burial will be in the Ipswich City cemetery with Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich in charge of arrangements.
He died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Ipswich.
Roland A. Meyer was born July 29, 1913, to George and Johanna (Kohler) Meyer in Wales, N.D. He graduated from Wales High School. He then worked on a farm. In 1936, he moved to Ipswich, where he started working at the Gamble Store.
On Nov. 23, 1939, he married
Lucille Fischer in Wales. They made their home in Ipswich. In 1954, he purchased the Gamble Store in Ipswich and ran the store until his retirement in 1978. They continued to live in Ipswich. He became a resident at the Beverly Healthcare Center several weeks ago.
He was active in the Ipswich community. He had been a member of the Ipswich Commercial Club and served as president in 1958. He was also active in the Sportsman Club, and served for many years on the Ipswich Hospital Board.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of Ipswich; one daughter, Kathleen (Vic) Baker of Selby; one son, Mark (Dorothy) Meyer of Golden, Colo.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Adam S. Reiss
Trail City -- Mass of Christian burial for Adam S. Reiss, 79, of Trail City will be at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. The Rev. Peter Kovarik will officiate.
Burial will be in the Trail City cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge in charge of arrangements.
A scriptural wake service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Mobridge. There will also be visitation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, and also for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church in Trail City.
He died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D.
Adam S. Reiss was born July 9, 1920, to Baltsar and Theresa (Mattern) Reiss on the family farm near Trail City. He grew up on the farm and attended rural school. Following his education he worked on the family farm. During the Great Depression years he worked on various Works Progress Administration projects in Dewey County. He also worked for the railroad for a short time.
He married
Frances Schell on May 19, 1941, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Trail City. Following their marriage they made their home with his parents for about one year. They then moved to their home four miles east of Trail City, where they had since resided.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Mobridge Moose Lodge. He was a past member of the Richland Township Board and the Richland Township School Board.
He enjoyed farming.
Survivors include his wife of Trail City; four sons, Ray (Shirley) Reiss of Pollock, Marvin (Joan) Reiss of Wessington Springs, Ralph (JoAnn) Reiss of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Harvey (Gloria) Reiss of Mason City, Iowa; one daughter, Arlene (Tom) Wiggins of Raytown, Mo.; one brother, Conrad Reiss of Trail City; three sisters, Margaret Lenling of Mobridge, Anna Schentzky of Hot Springs, and Helen Bones of Stayton, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, seven sisters and one grandson.
Casketbearers will be Mark Reiss, Michael Reiss, Brian Reiss, Kevin Reiss, Tommy Ray Wiggins and Loren Wald.
Celestine "Kess" A. Kessler
Brookings -- Celestine "Kess" A. Kessler, 76, of Brookings and formerly of Leola and Onida, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Scripps Hospital in LaJolla, Calif.
His Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings. The Rev. Thomas Heck will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in Brookings with Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings in charge of arrangements.
A scripture service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Sister Marlene Minnaert will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Celestine A. Kessler was born Nov. 27, 1923, to John and Magdalena (Stephen) Kessler in Leola. He attended school in Leola and graduated from Leola High School in 1940. He continued his education at South Dakota State College in 1941. He was then employed as county agent in Onida for one year, after which he owned and operated Onida Produce from 1945 until 1950.
He married
Marvelyn Tollgaard on Sept. 25, 1945, in Brookings. In 1951, they moved to Brookings, where he was employed at the Sexauer Company. From 1957 until 1965 they lived in Fargo, N.D. They returned to Brookings, where he became vice president of the Sexauer Company. He continued his employment with the Sexauer Company until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the Brookings Elks Lodge No. 1490, was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Marquette Assembly No.1078 in Sioux Falls and was past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus No. 3640 in Brookings. He also served as past president of the South Dakota Seed Association and the North Dakota Seed Association, was past president of Northern Seedsman and was past president of Field Seed Interstate of North America.
Survivors include his wife of Brookings; four daughters, Pamella Kessler of Porterville, Calif., Susan Bartscher of Brookings, Peggy Kessler of Valley Springs and Beth (Steve) Schwartz of Volga; one sister, Angela Schilling of Leola; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Raymond H. Nelson
Aberdeen -- The funeral for Raymond H. Nelson, 74, of 400 Eighth Ave. N.W., was held on Saturday at Spitzer-Osthus Funeral Home, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E. The Rev. D. Thomas Rawerts officiated.
Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at ManorCare Health Services.
Raymond H. Nelson was born May 11, 1925, to Herman and Myra (Crandall) Nelson at Mobridge. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. On June 28, 1946, he entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, Minn. He was honorably discharged March 12, 1947, at Camp McCoy, Wis.
He married
Olga Marie Oster on March 23, 1947, at Mobridge. They made their home in Mobridge, where he worked for Ritter's Meat Market and Baird's Garage. Later, he went to work for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad, and in 1961 he was transferred to Aberdeen. She died Sept. 24, 1977. He continued to work for the Milwaukee Road and later the Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the Aberdeen Senior Citizens, where he did volunteer work.
Survivors include one son, Raymond (Georgia) Nelson of Aberdeen; two daughters, Linda (Duane) Bobby and Betty Haar, both of Aberdeen; three sisters, Florence Jenson and Irene Schlomer, both of Mobridge, and Geraldine Moser of California; one brother, Alfred Nelson of Phoenix; one half brother, Loren Dale Nelson of Denver; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two granddaughters.
Shirley Ann Weller
Sioux Falls -- The funeral for Shirley Ann Weller, 51, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Eureka and Miller, will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Zion Lutheran Church, Eureka. The Rev. Eldon Thurow will officiate.
Another service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Messiah New Hope Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
Burial will be today in Zion Lutheran Church cemetery in Eureka. Carlsen Funeral Home in Eureka is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She died of natural causes Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at her home.
Shirley Fischer was born Sept. 20, 1948, to Rueben and Ethline (Rau) Fischer in Eureka. She attended country school at Sutley School near Eureka. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1966. She then attended Stewart's School of Hairstyling in Aberdeen from 1966 to 1967.
She married
Ronald Weller on Dec. 6, 1970, in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka, where she started working at the Cal Cal Hotel as a beautician. In 1975, she opened and operated Shirley's Roadside Beauty Salon. In 1981, the family moved to Mobridge, where she and her husband owned and operated Mark Hotel. In 1985, they moved to Highmore, where they owned and operated the Ranch Cafe. In 1986, they moved to Miller, where she was a dietary assistant at Prairie Good Samaritan Center and manager at Ken's Fairway Bakery. In 1994, the family moved to Sioux Falls, where they managed Solar Garden Estates.
She enjoyed painting crafts and spending time with her cats and dogs.
Survivors include her husband of Sioux Falls; three daughters, Stacie (Jay) Ugofsky and Jenny Clapsaddle, both of Sioux Falls, and Tena (Rick) Schulz of Wishek, N.D.; her mother of Eureka; one brother, Donald Fischer of Eureka; one sister, Brenda Funk of Eureka; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, her paternal grandparents and her father.
Casketbearers will be nieces and nephews, Jesse Staebner of Vermillion, MaShay Staebner of Aberdeen, Darrick Funk of Sioux Falls, Trisha Funk and Becky Fischer, both of Fargo, N.D., Tate Fischer of Seal, Texas, and Patrick Fischer of St. Paul, Minn.

Dena I. Grote
Aberdeen -- Dena I. Grote, 95, of Aberdeen died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Bethesda Nursing Home in Aberdeen.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E. The Rev. Allan Schoonover will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Dena Irene Romelfanger was born April 20, 1905, to Frank and Florence (Woodruff) Romelfanger in Rockford, Ill. They later moved into Roscoe, and then to Aberdeen. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School.
She married
Lester Grote on Sept. 7, 1922, in Aberdeen. Following their marriage, they made their home in Aberdeen, and she worked for Taylor Laundry, Standard Clothing, Martin Clothing, Goldbergs and Buttery's stores. She retired in 1958. They continued to reside in Aberdeen following her retirement. He died April 13, 1976. She moved into the Bethesda Home in 1994.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose Lodge.
She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, crocheting, camping, fishing, cooking and baking.
Survivors include three sons, Neil (Beverly) Grote and Percy (Dorothy) Grote, both of Aberdeen, and Harlyn (Joan) Grote of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Louan Overbust and Alecia "Lisa" (Ron) Bean, both of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, one sister, one half sister, one half brother, two stepbrothers and one stepsister.
Casketbearers will be her grandsons: Norman Fjelstad, Tim Fjelstad, Wayne Fjelstad, Terry Grote, Mitch Locken, Andy Locken, Clint Fjelstad and Jim Meyers.
Jeanette Nelson
Sisseton -- The funeral for Jeanette Nelson, 76, of Sisseton will be at 2 p.m. today in the Saron Lutheran Church near Grenville. The Rev. Lynn Wilson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Zoar Lutheran cemetery near Grenville with Cahill Funeral Chapel in Sisseton in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service today at the church.
She died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at Avera St. LukeÕs Hospital in Aberdeen.
Jeanette Hovland was born Aug. 28, 1923, to John T. and Inga (Hyllseth) Hovland on a farm in One Road Township. She grew up and attended country school through the eighth grade at One Road No. 3.
She married
Eugene Nelson on June 21, 1942, in One Road Township.
She was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church and was active in church activities until the church closed. She and her husband later joined Saron Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was president of WomenÕs Missionary Federation.
She enjoyed canning, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her husband of Sisseton; one daughter, Joanne (Donovan) Jensen of Eden; three sisters, Julia Hills and Sophie Lohre, both of Sisseton, and Ardyce Elmquist of Watertown; one brother, Melvin Hovland of Sisseton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Dean Jensen, Wayne Jensen, David Jensen, Sherri Jensen, David Hovland and Stanley Lohre.
