Helen M. Dobberpuhl
The funeral for Helen M. Dobberpuhl, 76, of Arcadia, Ind., and formerly of Groton, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the First Presbyterian Church, Groton. The Rev. Gerald Rife will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homer cemetery, Pierpont, with Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel in Groton in charge of arrangements.
She died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Ind.
Helen Marion Knight was born May 12, 1921, to D. Dudley and Lillian (Shadley) Knight in Pierpont. She grew up in the Pierpont area and attended school there. She graduated from Pierpont High School in 1939. She also graduated from the Aberdeen Business College. She lived in the Black Hills area from 1951 until 1963, when she moved to Groton. She worked as the head cook at the Groton School from 1963 until 1970.
She married
Floyd Dobberpuhl on November 4, 1974, in Huron. They made their home in Groton. She worked at Control Data in Aberdeen from 1970 until 1980, when she retired.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Groton, the Presbyterian Women and the Marifu Club.
She made and sold ceramic dolls as a hobby.
Survivors include three sons, David (Gail) Quaschnick of San Diego, Bruce Olson of Lead, and George (Lisa) Olson of Arcadia; two daughters, JoAnn (Eric) Crawford of Merced, Calif., and Marilyn (Doug) Jacob of Dayton, Minn.; one sister Janice Buchele of North Glen, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and one brother.
Casketbearers will be Todd Buchele, Lenny Knight, John Knight, Troy Dawson, Doug Jacob and Duane Dobberpuhl.
Lois Maxine (Bigelow) Erickson
Lois Erickson, 72 from Howard Lake, Minnesota died October 13, 1998. Lois was born in Pierpont, S.D., June 18th, 1926. A wake and prayer service was held at the Swanson - Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake, Minn. on October 15, 1998 and Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly Minn., on October 16th, 1998. Internment was at the Howard Lake cemetery.
Survivors include husband Raydon D. Erickson of Howard Lake, Minn., and two sisters Doris (Bigelow) Stevens of Knights Landing, Calif.; and Viola (Bigelow) Wertman of Woodland, Calif.; nine children: Duane R. Erickson, wife Jerrilyn (Klammer), Richard A. Erickson, wife Cynthia, Echo R. (Erickson) Barth, husband James, Rodney M. Erickson, Lester E. Erickson, wife Nancy (Carlson), Dawn M. (Erickson) Ward, husband Douglas, Marsha J. (Erickson), Kutz, husband Thomas. LuAnn E. Erickson, Jeffrey L. Erickson, and loving daughter Michele Miller, husband Roger Miller.
Twenty-one grandchildren: David Erickson, Bryan Erickson, wife Megan, Corey Erickson, Mickal Erickson wife Andrea, Theresa Erickson, Amy (Erickson) Werth, husband Lance, Cynthia Barnes, Summer Barnes, Matthew Barth, wife Kimberly, Melissa Barth, Cody Erickson, Aaron Eggersgluss, Joelle Miller, Jeremy Miller, Shauna Erickson, Paul Paradis III, Lisa Ward, Rachel Kutz, Crystal Kutz, Noel Kutz, Jieles Erickson, Vanus Erickson.
Six great grandchildren: Zoe Erickson, Alyssa Hill, Mikalya Erickson, Gage Grady, Izaak Erickson, Sebastian Barth.

Charles Lapham
Charles Lapham, formerly of Andover, died May 13, 1998 at Wesley Medical Center, Petal, Miss. The funeral was held Saturday, May 16, at the Jones Funeral Chapel in Richton, Miss. Burial was in Edwards cemetery, Richton.
Charles Albert Lapham was born to Homer and Ella (Schroeder) Lapham, December 28, 1930, at Andover. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Andover, and attended school in Andover, graduating in 1949.
After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and retired at Jacksonville, Ark., after 20 years of service. While in the Air Force he was stationed in England, Germany, Guam, Washington and Little Rock, Ark. While living in Jacksonville, he was a postal mail carrier for 15 years.
He married
Patricia Willoughby in England on January 2, 1953. A daughter, Carol Ann, was born to this union. He married
Ruth Easterling-Walley in 1990 in Arkansas. They made their home in Jacksonville for several and recently moved to Petal, Miss.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Carol Allen, Conconully, Washington and Margot Griffin, Purvis, Miss.; a son, Mike Walley, Indialantic, Fla.; one brother, Arthur (Maxine) Lapham, LaMoure, N.D.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and a nephew.
Mrs. Earl (Hilda) Larsen
Mrs. Earl (Hilda) Larsen, 90, of Groton, died June 1, 1998 at Colonial Manor of Groton. The funeral will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Groton at 2 p.m., on Thursday, June 4, with the Rev. Craig Grams officiating. Burial will be in the Groton Union cemetery.
Hilda Lenling was born December 14, 1907 on a farm home in West Hanson Township, rural Groton. Her parents were John Frederick and Ida (Larson) Lenling. She grew up and attended school in West Hanson Township. As a young woman she was employed as a housekeeper and caretaker for several families in the surrounding area. In January of 1940 she began working for and lived with the Maxine and Milton Sippel family for 14 years. She kept house and cared for Barbara, Connie and Jack Sippel. She married
Earl Larsen at Webster on December 21, 1954. They made their home on a farm and he worked for Lawrence Rohwer and Arden Rix. In 1970 they retired and bought a home in Groton. As a couple they worked together raising a large garden and gave produce generously to their family and friends and to the Salvation Army in Aberdeen. They were in a car accident in 1997 and since that time she has been in several care facilities and most recently at Colonial Manor in Groton.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Groton and she enjoyed gardening and canning.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, of Groton and one sister, Connie Lenling, of Groton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
Casketbearers will be David Dohman, Les Dohman, Jack Mahan, Tom Mahan, Mike McNamara and LeeRoy Weisenberger.
Elvera Neuman will be the organist.
Bernard L. Larson
Bernard L. Larson 79, former Brown County Treasurer, died March 26, 1998 at St. Luke’s Midland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 2, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 215 4th Ave. S.E., in Aberdeen, with the Rev. Gerold Sevig officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with arrangements by Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Bernard L. Larson was born on March 28, 1918 at Warner to Lloyd and Hilda (Dahl) Larson. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Warner High School with the class of 1936. He then attended the Aberdeen Business College. He married
Genevieve Stenstrom at Aberdeen on October 15, 1939. They made their home in Warner and later moved to a farm near Bath where he farmed and worked for Super Value Store in Aberdeen. They moved to Aberdeen in 1960 where he was Brown County Treasurer until 1981 when he retired. They moved to Mina in 1982 where they have lived since.
He belonged to the Moose Lodge and was a former member of the Elks Lodge and the Gem Township Board. He was baptized and confirmed at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church. He belonged to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a past council member.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of Mina; one son, Richard (Becky) Larson, Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Shirley (Masa) Iwama, Des Moines, Wash, and Glorene Hanson, Port Angeles, Wash.; one sister, Berniece (Robert) Van House, Dayton, Ohio; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
Honorary casketbearers will be all his grandchildren: Doug Smith, David Larson, Debi Stroud, Karla Olson, Brett Hanson, Chad Hanson, Tiffany Cobb, Denise Larson, Darrin Larson and Kevin Hanson.
Active casketbearers will be Art Heupel, Richard Heier, Walter Smith, James Hundstad, Ervin Marzolf and Kevin Braun.
Arliss Alberts will be the organist and Masa Iwama will be the soloist.

Margaret Laurilla
Services for Margaret W. Laurilla, 67, of Frederick, were held on February 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jeff Martinson officiated.
Burial was in Savo Lutheran cemetery near Frederick.
She died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at St. Luke’s Midland Regional Medical Center.
Margaret W. White was born June 27, 1930 to Anderson and Matilda (Hunter) White in Carrollton, Ga. She received her education in Georgia. Following her education she worked for General Electric in Atlanta in the public relations department for a number of years. She also worked for the National Bank of Georgia.
She married
Everett Laurilla on October 3, 1968 in Orlando, Fla. They made their home in Orlando, where they operated the Three-Point Bowling Center. They moved to Frederick in 1995.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Frederick.
She enjoyed writing children’s articles, some of which appeared in Redbook magazine.
Survivors include her husband of Frederick; two sons, Dr. Micheal (Jan) Sineway of Atlanta, and David (Denise) Sineway of Gainesville, Fla.; three sisters, Annie L. White and Alene Jones, both of Orlando, and Betty Parr of San Antonio; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
Casketbearers were Gerald Marttila, Lou Nelson, Merrill Payne, David Swanson, Kenneth Swanson, and Wesley Swanson.
Ted Leidholt
Ted Leidholt, 85, Bowdle, died Monday, October 19, 1998 at the Bowdle Hospital. His funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 22, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bowdle with Pastor Mike Schierenbeck officiating. Burial will follow at the Redeemer Lutheran Church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, is in charge of arrangements.
Ted Leidholt, son of Anna (Herrwald) and Henry Leidholt, was born July 28, 1913 at Bowdle. He attended some country school and attended Bowdle High School, graduating with the class of 1934. Following his schooling, he farmed with his parents. He married
Irma Buechler at the Neugluckstahl Lutheran Church northwest of Bowdle on June 29, 1941. The newlyweds settled on a farm two miles west and one mile south of Bowdle. They lived and farmed there until 1968 when they moved to Bowdle. He then went to work for the Edmunds County Highway Department as a bladesman until his retirement.
He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Bowdle. While on the farm he served on the Board of Directors for the Bowdle Farmers Union Oil Company and the Bowdle Equity Farmers Elevator. He also served on the Bowdle Township School Board and was on the Board of Directors of the Swan Creek Telephone Cooperative. Among Ted’s hobbies were golfing, fishing, hunting, playing pool, working with wood and operating remote control airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Leidholt of Bowdle; one son, Larry (Gloria) Leidholt, Groton; two daughters, Carol (Dave) Gurath, Fond du Lac, Wis., and Janell Leidholt, Sherwood, Ark.; two brothers, Jerry (Corrine) Leidholt, Pierre, and Bert (Virginia) Leidholt, Minot; four sisters, Bernice (Norman) Lindbloom, Pierre, Mabel Schumacher, Pierre, Lucille Schaible, Minneapolis, and Janice (Danny) Bergeson, Ft. Pierre; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Vivian Schumacher and Shirley David), a brother (Rueben) and one granddaughter in infancy.
Casketbearers will be James Leidholt and Bob Leidholt, Groton; Mark Gurath, Matthew Gurath and Michael Gurath, Eu Claire, Wis., and Dennis Lindbloom, Pierre.
Delores Walz will be the organist and there will be congregational singing. Norwin Walz and Dick Giedt will be the ushers.
Kathryn Lenz
Mass of Christian burial for Kathryn Lenz, 95, of Conde, was held March 7 at St. John’s Catholic Church at Conde, with the Rev. Matthew Vazhappily officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Catholic cemetery at Conde. Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton, was in charge of arrangements.
She died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at Elim Nursing Home in Fargo.
Kathryn Mary Norton was born September 23, 1902 to Martin and Mary Ann (Hearnen) Norton at Marietta, Minn. As a young girl she moved to Conde with her family. She graduated from Conde High School in 1919. She then attended Northern Normal and Industrial School in Aberdeen, and taught at a rural school in Beotia Township in Spink County for many years. She married
Bert Lenz on November 18, 1925. They lived in Conde, where they operated an International Harvester dealership. He died October 30, 1975.
She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Conde, and the Altar Society and held various offices. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Junior Catholic Daughters of America and served as a state officer. She was past president of the Conde School Board and was active in the Conde Civic Development Association, a charter member of the Conde American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Conde Senior Citizens.
Survivors include one son, Allen Lenz, Reston, Va.; three daughters, Mary Ann (Tom) Mahan, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bonnie (Lee) Corrigan, Fargo, and Bernadine (Clarence) Beauvais, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one sister, Margaret Grater, Camarillo, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
Brittney Mae Kelley Lone
Brittney Mae Kelley died Monday, October 12, 1998, at her home in Pierpont. She died of brainstem glioma. The funeral was held Wednesday, October 14, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont with the Rev. Lyla Siebrecht officiating. Burial was in Homer cemetery in Pierpont.
Brittney Mae Kelley was born January 14, 1992 at Oskaloosa, Iowa. Her parents were Mark Alan and Renee (Erdmann) Kelley. She moved to Bristol in 1994 and in 1995 she moved to Pierpont. She was a member of the first grade class at the Langford school. She attended the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont. Since the age of two, she showed a great interest in learning and playing school. During the last year of her life the support of the community and friends in the Pierpont area gave her many happy times. Among them were a helicopter ride given to her by Arnie Johnson of Aberdeen, a computer from the Make a Wish Foundation and a Barbie Jeep that was large enough for her and her dog, Buckwheat, to ride in from Toys ‘R Us.
She is survived by her father, Mark Alan Kelley, Oskaloosa Iowa; her mother and step father, Renee and Tom Lone, Pierpont; one brother, Mark Alan Kelley, Jr., Pierpont; two step sisters, Nicole Lone and Stephanie Lone, both of Britton; her maternal grandfather, Douglas Erdmann, Aberdeen; and her maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Ardella and Jay Galvin, Roslyn; her paternal grandmother, Pauline (Boots) Kelley, Oskaloosa, Iowa; her step grandparents, Arnie Sr. and Alice Lone, Bristol; her maternal great grandmothers, Tilla Sittner and Dorothy Erdmann, both of Aberdeen; step grandmother, Velma (Price) Pushor, Aberdeen, and her step great grandparents, Cecil and Betty Galvin, Knoxville, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two grandfathers and two great grandfathers.
The active pallbearers were Justin Cleveland, Dean Haaland, Tim Ronshaugen, and Mark Wika.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Lutz, Jason Severson, and Josh Bartos.
The pianist and soloist was Deb Olson.
The ushers were Steve Breske and Mark Anderson.
