Robert D. Hamilton
RAPID CITY — Robert D. Hamilton, 78, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Sioux Falls, the son of Robert and Roberta (Stephens) Hamilton.
Robert married Frances (Forbord) Hamilton on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
They were married for 53 years.
He was employed with Xerox Corp. until 1987, at which time he retired as a government account sales representative.
He was consistently recognized as one of the top account executives nationally.
He came out of retirement to work in sales with his good friends at Western Stationers.
He continued to work with them until his health declined.
He served in various organizations throughout his life in the Rapid City area.
They included One Club, Boots and Saddles Riding Club, Toastmasters, Optimist Club, and the Masonic Lodge.
He had special memories of his school years in New Underwood, where he graduated from high school.
There he was active in sports and was the quarterback for the New Underwood Tigers.
He loved horseback riding and was an expert horseman.
Some of his most memorable times were spent ranching in Pedro and Viewfield.
His positive outlook and love of life will be greatly missed.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Hamilton, Rebecca Hamilton-Lyons and her husband Arthur, and Elizabeth Hamilton-Claymore; four grandchildren, Stardust Red Bow, Colin Claymore, Dakota and Robert Lyons, all of Rapid City; and one sister, Grace Jorgensen of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Al Jacobson and the Rev. Donald Brendtro officiating.
A memorial has been established to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Dennis Cooney
PIERRE — Dennis Cooney, 44, Pierre, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Isburg-Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre.
Arthur E. Bond
RAPID CITY — Arthur E. Bond, 68, of Rapid City passed away Monday, March 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Art was born on August 26, 1933, in Edgemont, S.D., to Elza and Lora (Coates) Bond.
He worked at the Black Hills Army Depot from 1951-1953 and 1955-1966.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955.
On October 31, 1959, Art married Venita Hicks in Edgemont, where they lived until moving to Rapid City in 1966 after being transferred to Ellsworth AFB.
He retired in 1985 following 34 years as a civil servant for the United States Government.
Grateful for having shared in Art's life are his wife Venita and their two sons and their families, Curt and his son Kevin of Kent, Wash., and David and wife Becky and their children Bryce and Brianne of Blue Springs, Mo.
Other cherished survivors include three aunts, Jane Coates and Edna Coates, both of Edgemont, and Belle Bond of Marsing, Idaho; his mother-in-law, Lorene Hicks of Rapid City; sister-in-law, Elvera and Doc Willadson of Eutawville S.C.; two brothers-in-law, Rodney Hicks of Wright, Wyo., and Mark Hicks of Rapid City; three nieces; one nephew; and numerous cousins and extended families.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Art loved the company of his family and friends and took great pride in his children and grandchildren.
Art thoroughly enjoyed traveling, gardening, sports, and collecting antiques.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, and one hour before services at the church.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Dove Christian Center (1213 Harmony Heights Lane) in Rapid City, with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis; full military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established to the Electro-Physiology Department at Rapid City Regional Hospital and the American Thoracic Society for research for Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
Rose Auch
PORTAGE, Mich. — Services for Rose Auch, 90, of Portage, Michigan, formerly of Rapid City, will be held on Friday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Behrens Chapel in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Behrens Mortuary.
Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.
She died Tuesday, March 5, surrounded by loved ones at Fountain View Retirement Home of Portage.
She was born in Tripp, South Dakota, July 9, 1911, and then moved to Highmore, South Dakota, at the age of 8 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Dewald, where she grew up.
She married Helmuth Auch November 28, 1942, in Highmore. She was employed at Price Motel from 1960 to 1973 until she retired.
She is survived by her two children, a son and spouse, Darrel and Vicki Auch of Morgantown, West Virginia, and a daughter and spouse, Nancy and Kenneth Herson of Vicksburg, Michigan; five grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Hanson of Rapid City, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband and six sisters.
Behrens Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
John Wayne Plenty Arrows Sr.
ALLEN — John Wayne Plenty Arrows Sr., 48, Allen, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Maretta Plenty Arrows, Allen; three sons, John Plenty Arrows Jr. and Mario Plenty Arrows, both of Martin, and Tyron Marshall, Hot Springs; two sisters, Lena Bear Killer and Priscilla Has No Horse, both of Allen; and six grandchildren.
A two-night wake will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Allen CAP Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the CAP Center, with Paul Bentley and Pedro Sharp Fish officiating.
Burial will be at Body of Christ Cemetery in Yellow Bear Camp.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Ida G. Balm
GREGORY — Ida G. Balm, 90, Gregory and formerly of Colome, died Monday, March 4, 2002, at Gregory Community Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Balm, Gregory; three daughters, Eileen Billings, Black Canyon City, Ariz., Janice Osborne, Colome, and Arlene Stewart, Opelika, Ala.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colome.
Burial will be at Colome Cemetery.
Ollie Elizabeth Kindle
OGLALA — Ollie Elizabeth Kindle, 58, Oglala, died Saturday, March 2, 2002, in Santa Clara, Calif.
Survivors include her mother, Julia Brown Bear, Pine Ridge; one brother, Stanley Kindle, Calico; and one sister, Carolyn Brown Bear, Pine Ridge.
A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Oglala Recreation Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the recreation center, with the Rev. Asa Wilson and Charles McGaa officiating.
Burial will be at Makasan Presbyterian Cemetery in Oglala.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Frederick ‘Fred' McNally
RAPID CITY — Frederick "Fred" McNally, 91, Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at a Rapid City nursing home.
Survivors include his wife, Alma McNally, Rapid City; one son, Dr. Vern McNally, Phoenix; one daughter, Carol McNally Huebbeling; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.
