SPEARFISH - Sam Bernard Offerdahl, 85, Spearfish, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Offerdahl, Spearfish; three daughters, Barbara Canterbury, Wallace, Idaho, and Judy Hlousek and Linda Hoffmeyer, both of Belle Fourche; one son, Glen Reese, Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at Black Hills Gospel Assembly Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Harry Giffin officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
A memorial has been established to Black Hills Gospel Assembly Church.
Emma Henrietta Chipman
PIERRE - Emma Henrietta Chipman, 92, Pierre and formerly of Onida, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.
Survivors include one daughter, Marlyce Phelps, Fort Pierre; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters.
Her husband, Boyd L. Chipman, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, with a 6 p.m. prayer and Eastern Star service at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre.
Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Onida Cemetery.
Ruth Aamodt Patch
TRENTON, N.D. - Ruth Aamodt Patch, 79, Trenton, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at her daughter's home in Rapid City.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Beth Ferguson, Oklahoma City, Julie Streich, Minot, N.D., and Heidi McGillivray, Rapid City, and eight grandchildren.
Her husband, Charles Patch, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 11, at Everson Funeral Home in Williston, N.D., and for one hour before services Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Williston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Cliff Nelson officiating.
Burial will be at Trenton Cemetery.
Shaun Eric Garwood
MACKSVILLE, Kan. - Shaun Eric Garwood, 34, Macksville, Kan., died March 30, 2002, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born December 20, 1967, at Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, S.D., to Jay and Dawn Lynn (Miles) Garwood.
He served several years in the Army Reserves.
He enjoyed being a professional truck driver and being able to see many parts of our country. Shaun lived a full life and loved music, reading, history, politics, cooking, and his independence.
Survivors include his mother, Dawn Lynn Bell, Macksville, Kan.; father and his wife, Jay and Rhonda Garwood, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brother and sister, James and Melinda Bell, Macksville, Kan.; paternal grandparents, Bill and Eileen Garwood, Rapid City, S.D.; and aunt, Marty Garwood, Rapid City, S.D. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bob and LaVerne Miles.
Services and interment will be held in Rapid City at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
Gene W. King
RAPID CITY - Gene W. King, 82, longtime Belle Fourche resident died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Rapid City.
He was born on June 13, 1919, in Camp Crook, South Dakota, to Fortez King and Alice (Walker) King. He attended school in Belle Fourche. In July 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in August 1946.
He was married to his loving wife, Lorraine Hantz, for 51 years.
They ranched near Alzada and Belle Fourche. In 1955 they operated the Conoco Gas Station in Belle Fourche until 1965. He drove semi for All American Trucking for several years until retirement.
In December 2000 he moved to Rapid City to live near his family.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Lyle Venhuizen, Rapid City; 3 grandchildren, Brett Venhuizen, Grand Forks, N.D., Carissa Willits and her husband Paul, Rapid City, and their children, Jacob and Caitlin Willits, and Wayne Venhuizen, Rapid City; special niece, Lisa Bears and her husband Mike, Hulett, WY, and other nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Gayle Shalhoob, Hulett, WY.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine, in 1991; two infant daughters; sister, Violet Hardisty; and brothers, Carl and Bud King.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Belle Fourche, with Reverend Brent DeJong officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. Arrangements are under the direction of Kline-Frost Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.
A memorial has been established to the Children's Care Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Mamie Margaret YellowHead
MOBRIDGE - Mamie Margaret YellowHead, 96, Mobridge and formerly of Eagle Butte, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Mobridge.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, April 11, at Harvey V. Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the cultural center, with Daniel LaPlante and Chug Garreau officiating.
Burial will be at Eagle Butte United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Shirley Cramer
HILL CITY — Shirley Cramer, 80, of Hill City, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at her home.
She was born Aug. 25, 1921, at Pagoda, Colo., to Loyd and Gladys (Goddard) Saunders and moved to Arizona as a small child. She married Marion Cramer on Feb. 25, 1939, in Yuma, Ariz. They moved to Hill City in 1950 where she and Marion owned and operated the Corner Market. In 1963 they moved to Newcastle, Wyo., where they owned Cramer's Market. In 1974 they returned to Hill City where she retired for health reasons.
In younger years she enjoyed cooking and fishing. The last several years she enjoyed her grandchildren's visits and truly loved to feed and watch her wild birds.
Survivors include her son, Carl Cramer and wife Nettie of Hill City; her daughter, Scharlie Fitts of Omaha, Neb.; five grandsons, Gregg Fitts of Dallas, Texas, Brad Fitts of Omaha, Neb., Todd Fitts of Atlanta, Ga., Carl Cramer II of Marshfield, Wis., Garrick Cramer of South Korea; one granddaughter, Natasha Grupe of Mitchell; four great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and three sisters, Juanita Webb of San Diego, Calif., Alice "Tam" Good of Escondido, Calif., Dorothy Campbell of Needles, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, in 1999 and by two brothers, Alfred and Calvin.
Services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Kirk Funeral Home's Chapel of Light in Rapid City, with the Rev. Larry Peterson officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home for one hour before services. Burial will be at the Hill City Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to the Hill City Senior Center Meals Program.
Esther Kindsfater
BELLE FOURCHE — Esther Kindsfater, 80, Belle Fourche, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Lewisville, Colo.
Survivors include her children, Robert H. Kindsfater, Denver, Colo., Jearld Kindsfater, Deadwood, Alice Kindsfater, Broomfield, Colo., and Diane Holstein, Westminster, Colo.; two brothers, Reinhold Neisent, Belle Fourche, and Ruben Neisent, Mesa, Ariz.,; two sisters, Helen Hoeye and Rachael Haeger, both of Rapid City; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 8, at St. James Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating. Burial will be at Pine Slope Cemetery.

Kenneth O. Mann
RAPID CITY — Kenneth O. Mann, 76, of Rapid City, died Fri., April 5, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Kenneth was born Sept. 23, 1925, at Rapid City, S.D., to Owen and Myrtle (Foertsch) Mann. He grew up in the Hills area where he attended schools at Custer State Park and Fairburn, S.D. He received his high school diploma from Belle Fourche High School after attending Naval Technical Schools while in the service of his country from December 1943 to April 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre, including Okinawa and Iwo Jima.
He married Marjy A. Matt at Rapid City, S.D., on Dec. 28, 1946. He was employed by Mann Construction and several other companies as well as ranch work until his health failed.
Several of his many hobbies were taxidermy, hunting, fishing and rock hunting. He was a member of the Black Hawk Community Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1273 of Rapid City and the American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marjy Mann of Rapid City; two sons, Guy E. Mann Sr. and Colleen Kellar of Rapid City, Mark Mann and wife Carmen of Box Elder; one sister, Margaret Paulos and her husband Robert of Rapid City; two grandsons, Brant S. Mann and Lori Fraedrich of Rapid City, Guy J. Mann and wife Carol of Rapid City; two great-grandchildren, Guyron and Danica Mann of Rapid City; three step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City on Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then on Tuesday for one hour before services.
Funeral services will be held at Kirk Chapel of Light on Tuesday, April 9, at 9 a.m., with Pastor Allen Bates officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by VFW Post 1273.
A memorial may be given to the Black Hawk Community Church in his name.
G. Wayne Tapio
Wanbli Ksapa — Wise Eagle
PINE RIDGE — Gerald Wayne Tapio, well-known politician of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, passed from this world on April 3, 2002, after a long battle with cancer.
G. Wayne, as everyone knew him, served on the OST Council for more than 20 years. During his career he is remembered most for his strong advocacy for the youth and elderly of the reservation. He believed strongly in education and many young people are grateful for the support he provided to them in obtaining their education. G. Wayne served several terms as mayor of Pine Ridge, which earned him the distinctive nickname of "Mayor." G. Wayne loved his work and worked tirelessly to bring about change to the reservation.
G. Wayne was born to Raymond Tapio and Bertha Janis on Oct. 3, 1935. In 1954, he graduated from Oglala Community School and also married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Shangreau, at this time. G. Wayne and Shirley had five children: Dale Wayne, Lyle Martin, Harlan Louis, Letoy Ray and Robert Dean. G. Wayne earned a degree in Elementary Education from what was then Black Hills State Teacher's College in 1959. After his graduation, he moved his family to the Southwest where he taught in several BIA schools in New Mexico and Arizona. In 1970, he returned to Pine Ridge and took a position as a Home Living Director for the Oglala Community School (now Pine Ridge High School). G. Wayne was eventually drawn to the political arena and was elected to the OST Council as a councilman of the Pine Ridge district. During his terms in office he served as chairman of various committees of the tribal council.
G. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley and son Harlan.
He is survived by his four children; three grandsons, Myron Tapio, Roy Martinez Jr., and Derek Martinez; one granddaughter, Kristie Tapio; two great-grandsons, Mark and Marcel Tapio. He is also survived by his sisters, Catherine Steele, Jean Good Crow, Jackie Mousseau, Patricia Good Voice Flute and Betty Wilson; and one brother, Delbert Tapio. G. Wayne was the patriarch of a very large family including many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and other relatives who remember him with great love. In 1986, G. Wayne was adopted by Louie Boy Winters and family and given the name of Wanbli Ksapa by the late Matthew Two Bulls. He will always be remembered by his family, friends and the Lakota people whom he served with commitment and dedication.
One-night wake begins at 3:30 p.m., with a rosary at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, at Pine Ridge High School Gym in Pine Ridge. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Pine Ridge High School Gym, with Fr. Steve Sanford, S.J., as celebrant. Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Mission Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge.
Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
Lillian P. Zink
OSAGE, Wyo. — Lillian P. Zink, 63, Osage, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Zink, Osage; one daughter, Wanda Zink, Osage; four sons, Guy Zink, Hardin, Mont., Doland Zink, Salt Lake City, Fredrick Zink, Hartford, Conn., and Mark Zink, Orofino, Idaho; four brothers, Alfred Kasper, Belle Fourche, Joseph Kasper, Sebeka, Minn., Jack Kasper, Hewitt, N.J., and Steve Kasparek, St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Adeline Griffith, Sebeka, Alice Hallett, Verndale, Minn., and Mabel Kotek, Long Beach, Wash. ; and 16 grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, S.D.
Patrick J. Krebs
RAPID CITY — Patrick J. Krebs, 48, Rapid City, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, A.J. and Donna Krebs, Rapid City; three sisters, Donna Krebs, Petaluma, Calif., Katherine Krebs and Teresa Wilkins, both of Rapid City; and three brothers, Joseph Krebs, Lewis Krebs and Anthony Krebs, all of Rapid City.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Clifford L. Brown
PHILIP — Clifford L. Brown, 82, Philip, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Brown, Philip; one daughter, Zella Sundquist, Wasta; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and for one hour before services. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at United Church in Philip, with the Rev. Al Brucklacher officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
