Myron Carl Lindquist
KADOKA - Myron Carl Lindquist, 51, Kadoka, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Udehn; one son, Zane Lindquist, Kadoka; three daughters, Tara Lindquist, Sioux Falls, and Cierra Lindquist and Skye Lindquist, both of Kadoka; one brother, Duane Lindquist, Keldron; and four sisters, Shirley Drieske, Lemmon, Sylvia Engle, Hettinger, N.D., Audrey Kirkpatrick, Rapid Valley, and Beverly Bail, St. Paul, Minn.
He served in the South Dakota National Guard for 18 years.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Kadoka City Auditorium, with the Rev. Paul Bly officiating.
Burial, with military honors by the 109th Engineer Group of Rapid City, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
A memorial has been established.
Rosalie Vedral
WINNER - Rosalie Vedral, 75, Winner, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
Survivors include one son, Cecil Vedral, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Janak, Burley, Idaho, and Joe Janak, Commerce City, Colo.; and one sister, Theresa Snow, Colorado Springs.
Her husband, James Vedral, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner.
Burial will be at Winner Cemetery.
Marlin K. Tobias
CHANDLER, Ariz. - Marlin K. Tobias, known as "Toby" to his friends, passed away February 19, 2002, in Chandler, Arizona.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., 74 years ago. He was stationed at Ellsworth AFB and served as a crew member on the B-29 in the 717th Bomb Squadron. He later flew on the B-36 aircraft while in the 718th Bomb Squadron. After his retirement from the Air Force, he lived in Florida for a time, then returned to Rapid City, where he worked as a data coordinator for the West River Alcoholism Services and ARC. He leaves his wife Betty; three sons, Gary Tobias, Orlando, Fla., Steve Tobias, Whitefish, Mont., Scott Tobias, Chandler, Ariz.; one daughter, Pamela Tobias Zacher; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bernice (Collins) McCorkell
DE PERE, Wis. - On February 26, 2002, Bernice (Collins) McCorkell went to her eternal reward after a long life of dedication and accomplishment. Bernice was born in Superior WI's East End to the late James and Delia (McNamee) Collins. From her earliest years, Bernice valued education. She attended St. Scholastica College in Duluth and graduated from the University of Minnesota. She taught in the Business Department at Superior Central High School and for many years at Indianhead Technical Institute. She earned her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. One of her most treasured honors was being named Mother of the Year in Wisconsin in 1972. After a long and devoted teaching career at Indianhead Technical Institute she retired in 1975. She then devoted her business skills to helping in the parish office at the Cathedral of Christ the King. All of her life, Bernice devoted herself to church and community activities. She was active in the Catholic Daughters of America, serving as Grand Regent. She was a trustee of the Cathedral Parish and a member of the Board of Catholic Charities. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma as well as RSVP. Bernice loved life. She was a woman of generosity, devotion and courage. She had a resolute spirit of optimism, which she shared with her colleagues and students. She encouraged others to develop their talents and gain self-confidence. Her clever wit and sparkling eyes gave testimony to her treasured Irish heritage. Bernice was an avid sports fan. Even when deteriorating health forced her to live life in the heart of Packerland she maintained her Viking loyalty. She died grateful to God for a life filled with the joy of a devoted family and loving friends.
She is survived by her three children: Mary (Pat) Byrnes, Cedarburg, WI, Fr. Patrick McCorkell S.J., Rapid City, SD, and Kate (Tom) Wiers, De Pere; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, and her three brothers, Emmitt, Ray and Gene Collins.
Friends and family may call on Friday, March 1, 2002, from 5 p.m. at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. Fifth Street, Superior, WI, where the Rosary will be recited by the Catholic Daughter's at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior, WI, with her son, Fr. Patrick McCorkell S.J., officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be sent to: Cathedral of Christ the King Building Fund or St. Isaac Jogues Church, P.O. Box 1304, Rapid City, SD, 57709.
Lucille F. Herdman
RAPID CITY - Lucille F. Herdman, of Rapid City, died Sunday, February 24, at Denton Community Hospital in Denton, Texas.
Lucille was born in Westbrook, Minn., to David and Helen (Penner) Falk. She grew up and received schooling in that area, and later married Ansel S. "Andy" Herdman. The couple moved to Rapid City in 1966, where Lucille was an X-ray technician for many years.
Lucille is survived by a niece and her family, Patrice Lyke and her husband Robert and their sons, Penner and Benjamin, all of Denton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andy in 1970, and a sister.
Committal will be at a later date in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.
A memorial has been established to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home.
Donald F. Herman
RAPID CITY - Donald F. Herman, 70, of Rapid City, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2002, at a local nursing home.
He was born July 28, 1931, in Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Art and Della Herman. He served during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.
On April 22, 1957, he was married to Yvonne Schmitz in Merna, Nebraska. The couple lived in Omaha, Nebraska, until moving to Rapid City in 1969. Don worked for Mobil Oil as an auditor for 25 years and later for Gifford Electric.
Don enjoyed Little League baseball and the Black Hills. He was a member of IOF, the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include five sons, Dan Herman and Greg Herman and his wife Raelyn, all of Rapid City, Tom Herman, Denver, Colorado, and Gary Herman and his wife Edith and Jerry Herman, all of Gladstone, Missouri; grandchildren, Jernan Herman, Jesse, Jeffery and Trae Herman and Jaclyn and Madyson Herman; two brothers, Robert Herman, Pisgah, Iowa, and David Herman, Missouri Valley, Iowa; a sister, Jane Mether, Magnolia, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of very good friends and neighbors.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife and dear parents.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Osheim-Catron Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding. Interment will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City.
A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.
Edward Daniel Vercellino
BELLE FOURCHE - Ed Vercellino, 94, Belle Fourche, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at the Kiewell Guardian Angel Home in Belle Fourche, S.D. His body was donated to the School of Medicine in Vermillion, S.D. There will be no services.
Ed was born April 24, 1907, in Trojan, S.D., to John and Marie (Viano) Vercellino. He joined a sister, Elda, and a brother, Ray.
Ed was stricken with polio at the age of two when the family moved to Lead, S.D. Ed was educated in the Lead public school. He quit school upon the death of his father to help support his mother.
Ed's first job was with the Western Union Telegraph, first as a telegraph boy and then as an operator.
In the late 20s he went to work for W.E. Adams, a wholesale grocer, in Deadwood. In the early 40s he went to work at the Black Hills Mercantile, another wholesale grocer in Deadwood.
Ed married Iris Miller on August 18, 1939, in Deadwood. Two children were given to this union. Dan and Karen both were adopted the same year.
The family moved to Belle Fourche in 1952 where Ed and Iris bought and operated "Eddies' 5th Ave. Market." Ed operated the store until his retirement in 1972, and continued to work part-time until the business was dissolved.
Ed was on the board of directors that instituted the John Burns Nursing Home adjacent to the hospital. This later became the Senior Citizens Center.
At the time of his death he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belle Fourche. He was a member of Cedar Lodge
No. 124 AF&AM in Belle Fourche and a KCCH Member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and a member of the Naja Temple in Deadwood. Ed had been a Mason for more than 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother and a sister.
He is survived by Dan (Janet) Vercellino of Eden, N.C.; Karen (Martin) Peterson of Sundance, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Michael and Robert Vercellino, Michelle Summerlin and Tharon, Thad and John Peterson; and three great-grandchildren, Tripp and Kimberley Summerlin and Nicholas Vercellino.
Celeste J. Helgen
RAPID CITY - Celeste J. Helgen, 76, Rapid City, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include one son, James Helgen, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Ralph Cook, Warrenton, Mo., and Harold Cook, Sonoma, Calif.; one sister, Mildred Simon, Warrenton, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid City.
Linda Lou Means
ALLEN - Linda Lou Means, 54, Allen, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Hot Springs Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Maverick Means, Allen; six daughters, Lea Means, Tashina Means, Heather Means, Edna Gutierrez and Mona Gutierrez, all of Allen, and Tamara Ashley, Kyle; three brothers, Cecil Thunder Bull, Kyle, Malcolm Thunder Bull, Rapid City, and Earl Thunder Bull, Allen; seven sisters, Phyllis Campbell, Allen, Rose White Face and Faye Lone Hill, both of Porcupine, Pearl Bird Hat, Phoenix, Bernadine May, Salls, Ariz., and Susan Big Crow and Dorothy Clifford, both of Kyle; and 12 grandchildren.
She served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972.
A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. today at the Allen CAP Center. The second night will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at American Horse School in Allen.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the school, with Capt. Gilford Noisy Hawk officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie G. Peterson
BELLE FOURCHE - Bonnie G. Peterson, 46, rural Belle Fourche, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Peterson, Belle Fourche; her mother and stepfather, Mavis and Joe Upton, Denver; two sons, Tony and Lonnie; two sisters, Trisha and Jackie; and one brother, Michael.
Arrangements are pending with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
John F. Wagner Sr.
RAPID CITY - John F. Wagner Sr., 86, Rapid City, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Black Hills Retirement Center. John was born January 7, 1916, in Watertown, S.D. He married Margaret Chester on November 5, 1937, in Watertown.
They lived in Custer, S.D., where John owned and operated a grocery store, the Fruit Basket. He later worked as a contractor for Kelley and Kelley Construction Company until 1955, when they moved to Rapid City.
John worked for various contractors in the area up until he started Wagner Construction Company. He built several custom and spec homes for many years in the Rapid City area and made furniture, wooden rocking horses and stick horses for children. He ended his career as the maintenance supervisor at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St. Elizabeth Seton School.
John and his wife spent time in California visiting their daughter and grandson. He loved watching the sunset at the Redondo Beach pier. His favorite pastime was trout fishing in the Black Hills with his son and grandsons. John was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, performing many hours of volunteer work.
Survivors include his sister, Helene Freeland; his son, John Wagner Jr. and his wife, Susan, and grandchildren Kevin, Timothy and Elizabeth Wagner, all of Rapid City; and his daughter, Kay Meyer and grandson, Jason, of Torrance, California. His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death in November of 2001.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. today at the
Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. today at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with interment following at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
A memorial has been established to St. Thomas More and St. Elizabeth Seton schools.
