Armine R. Kuhlman

LEAD — Armine R. Kuhlman, 90, Lead, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish.

Survivors include his wife, Della Kuhlman, Lead; two sons, Myron Kuhlman, Houston, and Armine Kuhlman, San Diego; a stepson, Fred Anschutz, Tonto Verde, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Nancy Robinson, Marion, Ill.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Violet Joiner, Lakin, Kan.; and a brother, Elton Kuhlman, Great Bend, Kan.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Monday, March 12, until service time at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Lead.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating.

Burial will be at Lydia Cemetery near Lakin, Kan.

Chaput Memorial Chapel in Lead is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Erickson

LEAD — Stanley Erickson, 82, longtime resident of Lead, died March 8, 2001, at Northern Hills General Hospital, Deadwood.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lead.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with Rev. Lloyd Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Bison Cemetery.

He was born September 1, 1918, in Gettysburg, S.D., to Henry Randolph and Martha (Severson) Erickson. The family moved to a farm outside Bison, S.D., when he was two years old. He attended a country school for nine years, then quit school to work on the family farm. He worked on different farms in the Bison area for several years. He worked in the apple industry in Washington state, then returned to South Dakota and drove trucks in 1947 and 1948. On September 22, 1949, he married Anna Mae Brocsamle in Belle Fourche, S.D. From 1949 to 1953, he worked for the county highway department. In 1953, they moved to Lead, S.D., where he worked for the forest service for four months. He went to work for Homestake Mine in Lead and worked there for 16 years. After leaving the mine, he worked as a carpenter for a brief time. In January of 1970, he returned to work for Homestake Forest Products in Spearfish, where he took early retirement in 1980 after fire destroyed the sawmill. He remained active in the community of Lead in both the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Survivors include four daughters, Gerry Cass, Flowery Branch, Ga., Noel Erickson, Lead, Susan (and Bill) Heinke, Sioux City, Iowa, and Rebecca Erickson, Hill City; two sons, Stanley Erickson Jr. and Robert Erickson, both of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Marcella Verstegen and Bernice Featherly, both of Omak, Wash.; one brother, R.G. Bill (and Phyllis) Erickson, Kulm, N.D.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae; three brothers, Pat Erickson, Carl Erickson and Marvin Erickson; and one sister, Vera Meagher; and one daughter, Marcella, in infancy.

Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Fidler Funeral Chapel, Lead, has been entrusted with arrangements.

Helen D. Johnson

PIERRE — Helen D. Johnson, 79, Pierre, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Maryhouse Sub Acute Center in Pierre.

Survivors include her husband, Juell Johnson, Pierre; two daughters, Linda Batholomew, Faulkton, and Cynthia Foreman, Brighton, Colo.; three sons, James Johnson, Hastings, Neb., John Johnson, Gothenburg, Neb., and Laurence Johnson, Pierre; two sisters, Barbara Gossman, Lemmon, and Lorraine Wade, San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Leonard Kirchoff, Sweet Home, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre is in charge of arrangements.

Lester D. Shoulders

PINE RIDGE — Lester D. Shoulders, 49, Pine Ridge, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Pine Ridge Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Lester Shoulders Jr., Minneapolis; a daughter, Lisa Shoulders, Minneapolis; four brothers, Renay Shoulders, Pierre, and Tim Shoulders, William Shoulders and Orlan Shoulders, all of Manderson; three sisters, Charlene Featherman, Cora Shoulders and Rose Shoulders, all of Manderson; and four grandchildren.

A two-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Hall in Manderson, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Manderson, with the Rev. Jim Ryan, S.J., officiating. Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Manderson.

Madonna R. (Blue Horse) Beard

RAPID CITY — Madonna R. (Blue Horse) Beard, 60, Rapid City, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, Homer Beard, Puerta Vallarta, N.M.; a son, John Beard, Hermosa; a daughter, Rebecca Conca, Hermosa; and six grandchildren.

One-night wake will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, March 12, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City, with a rosary service at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Pat McCorkle officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Mission Cemetery in Pine Ridge.

Edward Morris Bruce

BLACK HAWK — Edward Morris Bruce, 89, Black Hawk, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at a local nursing home.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Bruce, Black Hawk; four sons, Ronnie Bruce, Dexter, Mich., and Wayne Bruce, Doug Bruce and Barry Bruce, all of Black Hawk; and eight grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City.

Anna E. Sachan

HOT SPRINGS — Anna E. Sachan, 95, Hot Springs, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Becker, Hot Springs; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, with the Rev. Dana Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

David F. Sieler

STURGIS — David F. Sieler, 65, Sturgis and formerly of Rapid City, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Sturgis Long Term Care Center.

Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 9 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A private family interment service will be held Monday at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.

A memorial service will be Monday, March 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Rapid City, with Father David Cameron officiating.

Dave was born Jan. 4, 1936, at Rapid City, to Julius and Linda (Cetto) Sieler. He grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School. He attended the University of Colorado from 1954 to 1957 and attended South Dakota University Law School at Vermillion from 1957 until 1960, when he was awarded the bachelor of law degree.

Dave married Maxine Hardy at Sturgis on Dec. 1, 1962. They continued to live in Rapid City, where he was a junior partner in his father's law firm. He served as the Pennington County State's Attorney from 1963 until 1967. Dave was involved in an auto accident on June 17, 1976, that forced him to stop practicing law due to injuries sustained in the accident.

Dave was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and served on the vestry. He was a member of the Naja Temple, the Masonic Lodge, had been a member of the legal staff of the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C., and had been business manager and a member of the editorial board of the South Dakota Law Review. He was a member of the Pennington County Bar Association, the South Dakota Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity, Elks Lodge No. 1187, the Rapid City Junior Chamber of Commerce and the South Dakota Young Republicans. While fulfilling his military obligation in the United States Army, he was employed in the office of the Inspector General at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Sieler, Rapid City; his mother, Linda Sieler, Rapid City; one son, Jay Sieler, Minneapolis; one daughter and her husband, Julie and Todd Brink, Rapid City; one brother and his wife, Philip and Delores Sieler, Pierre, two sisters-in-law, Patricia Shank, Rapid City, and Shirley Walters, Tucson, Ariz.; an aunt, Erna Sieler, Rapid City; a special nephew, Justin Sieler, Sioux Falls; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; an aunt and uncle, Albert and Eleanor Cetto, Fort Worth, Texas; and three grandchildren, Ian, Calvin and Brennan Brink.

A memorial has been established to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Helene Pedersen

HOT SPRINGS — Helene Pedersen, 94, Hot Springs, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Greany, Hot Springs; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Immaculate Conception Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Valentine Young officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Mildred Chamberlain

PLATTE — Mildred Chamberlain, 83, Platte, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Ries, Corsica, and Loretta Brill,

Jonestown, Texas; a son, Clifford Johnson Jr., Gillette, Wyo.; two brothers, Fred Smit, Platte, and Theodore Smit, Why, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte. Burial will be at West Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Darrell Cooper

NEMO — Darrell Cooper, 91, Nemo, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, Wash.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Cooper, Nemo; two sons, Darris Cooper, Michigan City, Ind., and Maurice Cooper, Newton, Iowa; two daughters, Alene Handley, Spokane, Wash., and Merrilee Robertson, Smyrna Mills, Maine; three sisters, Evelyn Lushbough, Spearfish, Kathleen Lushbough, Jackson, Calif., and Doris Swindler, Medford, Ore.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home of Rapid City.

Marian Carol Porter McIlravy

PIERRE — Marian Carol Porter McIlravy, 82, Pierre, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Maryhouse Nursing Home in Pierre.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Van Roekel, Pierre, three grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Doren, Cascade, Colo., and Patricia Blankenburg, Madison, Wis.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at Maryhouse Chapel in Pierre.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at First Baptist Church in Pierre.

Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Anderson

RAPID CITY — Mary Elizabeth Anderson, 80, Rapid City and formerly of Piedmont, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at West Hills Village in Rapid City.

Visitation will be Monday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel and Tuesday one hour before services at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Dan Freed officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Mary was born Jan. 6, 1921, at Piedmont to Frank and Mabel (Beatty) Cooper. She grew up and attended school in Piedmont. She received her teaching certificate from Spearfish Normal. Mary taught at a rural Meade County school for one year. Mary married Adolph "Coob" Anderson in Rapid City on May 17, 1941. They lived in Rapid City until 1954, when they moved to Piedmont.

Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Piedmont, the DOES, served on the board of Job's Daughters and was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was active in bowling and held offices in the WIBA. Mary also loved her card playing.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Phil and Kim Anderson, Piedmont; four daughters, Sue Anderson, Rapid City, Mary Ellen and her husband, Duane Hoover, Newbury Park, Calif., Pat and her husband, Grant Dierks, Emmett, Idaho, and Barbara Shepardson, Sturgis; four sisters, Geraldine Grams, Sturgis, Alta McVay, Piedmont, Leona Norris, Los Angeles, Calif., and Martha Patterson, Sturgis; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her parents; her husband, Coob, in 1999; two sons, Howard and Richard; and two brothers, Clayton and Dale, preceded her in death.

A memorial has been established to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund.
