PIERRE — Ann Volk, 72, Pierre, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Nicholas of Pierre; three sons, Richard Volk, Elk Point, Nicholas Volk, Black Hawk, and Gene Volk, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Jolenta Neisent, Rapid City; four brothers, Tony Meier, Peter Meier, Sebastian Meier and Joseph Meier; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. scripture and rosary service, today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pierre.
Eleanor Mae Rhodes
SUN CITY, Ariz. — Eleanor Mae Rhodes, 84, Sun City and formerly of Rapid City, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Sun Health Hospice in Peoria, Ariz.
Survivors include two daughters, Delores Waters and Beverly Ramich; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Open Bible Christian Center in Rapid City, with the Rev. Les Potts officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
Alice Thompson
FORT PIERRE — Alice Thompson, 76, Fort Pierre, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at her home.
Survivors include five daughters, Marcia McMullen, Brookings, Karen Humphrey, Custer, Linda Adams and Sandra Davenport, both of Pierre; Debra Norton, Fort Pierre; one sister, Christine McChristy, Volin; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today at Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, with the Rev. Brad
Urbach officiating. Burial will be at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre.
Thelma Kenzy
PIERRE — Thelma Kenzy, 82, Pierre, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Maryhouse Sub-Acute Center in Pierre.
Survivors include three sons, Ernest Shonrock, Erie, Colo., Gary Shonrock, Fort Pierre, and Stephen Kenzy, Onida; one daughter, Linda Thorson, Pierre; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre. Burial will follow at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre.
August C. Bruckner
COLOME — August C. Bruckner, 74, Colome, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Gregory Community Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice, of Colome; three children, Linda Todd, Onida, Harlan Bruckner, Pierre, and Stephen Bruckner, Colome; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today at Mason Funeral Home in Winner. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner. Burial will be at Colome Cemetery.
Marvin M. Dewald
RAPID CITY — Marvin M. Dewald, 80, Rapid City, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Marvin was born July 30, 1920, in Hanson County, S.D., to the Rev. Edward Dewald and Katherine (Blum) Dewald. He graduated from Gregory High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1942 to February 1948. He then went back to college and received a degree at South Dakota State University in 1951.
He worked in the lab at General Mills until 1953, at which time he started working at the South Dakota Cement Plant lab, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1273 and Zion Lutheran Church.
He is survived by two nephews, Norman Dewald of Rapid City and Richard Dewald of Riverdale, N.J.; grandniece Jessica Dewald and grandnephew Nicholas Dewald, both of Rapid City; and sister-in-law, Viola Dewald of Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be one hour before services, which will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with the Rev. Duane M. Duley officiating. Burial wil be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors provided by Sturgis Honor Guard.
Behrens Mortuary of Rapid City is in charge of arrangements.
Elsie M. (Brave) CaDotte
PINE RIDGE — Elsie M. (Brave) CaDotte, 75, Pine Ridge, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Good Horse and Charles Running Hawk, both of Lincoln, and Eugene Comes, Scottsbluff, Neb.; one daughter, Doris Running Hawk, Grand Island, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, at Loneman Rec Center in Oglala, with the Rev. Earl Kurth officiating.
Burial will be at Our Lady of the Sioux Catholic Cemetery in Oglala.
Orval J. Stadheim
REEDER, N.D. — Orval J. Stadheim, 74, Reeder, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Emily; two daughters, Sandra Stadheim, Bismarck, and Patty Hegland, Oberon; three sons, Orval Lynn Stadheim, Reeder, Barney Stadheim, and Larry Stadheim, all of Hettinger; one brother, Howard Stadheim, Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Verna Reagan, Bellevue, Wash., and Louella Holmquist, Seattle; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Walby Chapel of Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, and one hour before services, which will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Reeder, with the Rev. Patricia M.
Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Reeder.
David Tracy
RAPID CITY — David Tracy, 40, Rapid City, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Zaske Tracy, Rapid City; one daughter, Nicolette Tracy, Rapid City; his father, Roy Tracy, Moore, S.C.; grandfather C.W. Brewton, Conroe Texas; one brother, Howard Tracy, Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Wheeler, Charlotte, N.C., and Teresa Burton, Spartanburg, S.C.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Rooks & Kirk Chapel of Light in Rapid City, with the Rev. Steve Rhodes officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Leighton Rich
RAPID CITY — Leighton Rich, 36, Rapid City, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Sioux Falls.
Survivors include six children, Antonia and Robin, both of Minneapolis; Wallace, Cody, Chavez and Justice, all of Rapid City; his father, Arley of Rapid City; three brothers, Wesley of Idaho, Arley and Arlen, both of Rapid City; and two sisters, Arla and Janine, both of California.
Arrangements are pending with Rooks & Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Donald E. Kaiser
SPEARFISH — Donald E. Kaiser, 71, Spearfish, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. CST Monday, March 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Winner. The casket will be open at the church one hour before the service. A second service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Hope Lutheran Church, Spearfish, with visitation at the church one hour before the service. The Reverend Lloyd Lemke will officiate at both services. Burial, with full military honors, provided by the Spearfish honor guard, American Legion Post No. 164, and VFW Post No. 5860, will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery following the Spearfish service.
Mr. Kaiser was born July 27, 1929, to Henry and Ella (Klundt) Kaiser at Herrick, S.D. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Herrick. The family moved to Millboro, S.D., where he attended school. He was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church south of Colome on Aug. 13, 1942. He served in the U.S. Army in 1951-52 during the Korean War. He was discharged in February 1952 and returned to South Dakota and farmed with his father south of Colome. On Dec. 28, 1952, he was married to Lorraine Hartman at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Colome, and they farmed south of Colome for 23 years. Don loved to farm and often did custom work for other farmers. In 1974, they sold the farm and lived in Colome for two years. They moved to Spearfish in 1976, where they owned and operated the Queen's Motel for 18 years. They also owned and operated the Classic Car Museum for five years. They retired from the motel in 1992.
In addition to enjoying his children and grandchildren, he liked to play cards and was known to do a bit of bluffing. This last year, macular degeneration caused him to give up his card playing and driving. He was a member of the Spearfish Chamber of Commerce and the Spearfish Hospitality Association. He was a past commander of Thayer-Waters American Legion Post
No. 146, Colome, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
Don was a faithful husband and loving father and a doting grandfather. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Lorraine; three sons, Dan Kaiser, Dick and Leona Kaiser, and Doug and Faith Kaiser; two daughters, Donnelle and Randy Culver and Donnalee and Doug Smith; and 14 grandchildren, all of Spearfish. Also two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Ted) Kindt and Shirley (Mrs. Verlyn) Parkis, both of Winner; and one brother, Bob and Marcella Kaiser, of Belle Fourche.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Harold.
A memorial has been established for Hope Lutheran Church, Spearfish.
Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish is entrusted with the arrangements.
Don Erickson
PIERRE — Don Erickson, 77, Pierre, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include two sons, David and Scott, both of Pierre; two daughters, Falin of Presho, and Debbie Johnson, Tuttle Okla.; one brother, Kenneth of Pierre; four sisters, Beulah Albrandt, Sturgis, Marion Hurn, Kenmore, Wash., Lorna Albrandt, Grand Junction, Colo., and Audrey Schutte, Moses Lake, Wash.; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.
Janel Rae Reed
FAITH — Janel Rae Reed, 14, rural Faith, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home.
Survivors include her parents, Cheryl A. Reed, Platte, and Jason and Bunny Reed, rural Faith; one sister, Jerylin Reed, rural Faith; grandparents, Ted and Carol Bultsma, Platte, James and Peggy Reed, Sturgis; and great-grandmother Jessie T. Bultsma, Platte.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Faith Area Memorial Chapel, and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, March 19, at Faith United Methodist Church, and for one hour before services at the Faith auditorium. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Faith School auditorium. Burial will be at Faith Cemetery.
Thomas Herbert Tefertiller
SUNDANCE, Wyo. — Thomas Herbert Tefertiller, 72, Sundance, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis, S.D.

NEMO — Jean Pinkerton, 78, Nemo, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.
Survivors include one son, Randy Pinkerton, and one daughter, Kim Sundquist, Nemo.
Arrangements are pending with Rooks-Isburg Chapel in Custer.
Murray Charles Godbe III
KANAB, Utah — Murray Charles Godbe III died in Kanab, Utah, on March 10, 2001. He was born March 13, 1926, to Ruth Elizabeth Fox and Murray Charles Godbe Jr. in Hollywood, California. He was raised and educated in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Utah. He worked as a geologist in many capacities, and was well regarded and respected by his colleagues for his knowledge and expertise.
He married Kathleen Portsche in 1946, and to that union were born Stephen, Susan and Cynthia. In 1976, he married Kathleen Kelley Nichols, and her children, Shannon and Carrie, were added to the Godbe family.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his five children, Stephen (Carol Deckelbaum) Godbe of Brussels, Belgium, Susan (Daniel) Rawson of Rapid City, Cynthia (Bim) Oliver of Salt Lake City, Shannon Godbe of Portland, Oregon, and Carrie Kelley; and his five grandchildren, Matthew Oliver, Rachel and William Godbe, Emily Rawson and Kathryn Nicole Vickers.
Private graveside services were held on what would have been his 75th birthday at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. He would have been happy to know that we were there to "celebrate" his life. Pall bearers were Stephen Godbe, Susan Godbe Rawson, Shannon Godbe, Dan Rawson, Bim Oliver and Carrie Kelley.
