Louis 'Louie' Arguello
RAPID CITY - Louis "Louie" Arguello, 81, Rapid City, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at a local nursing home.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Arguello, Rapid City; four children, Tito Arguello, Eddie, Bea Arguello and Louie Arguello, all of Rapid City; four brothers, Alex Arguello and Al Arguello, both of Washington, and Joe F. Arguello and Joe T. Arguello, both of Rapid City; two sisters, Isabelle Martinez, Idaho, and Mary Martinez, Washington; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Behrens Mortuary in Rapid City, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Rapid City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the church, with the Rev. Pat McCorkell officiating. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1273.

Paul R. Godfroy
WRENTHAM, Mass. - Paul R. Godfroy, 52, Wrentham, Mass., formerly of Rapid City, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, in Attleboro, Mass.
Survivors include his children, Elizabeth and Andrew Godfroy, both of Rapid City; his mother, Lucille Godfroy, Nashua, N.H.; his father, Roger Godfroy, Lowell, Mass.; and three sisters, Dolores Callahan and Suzanne Mimnick, both of Glen Burnie, Md., and Michelle Callahan, Lowell, Mass.
Services were held Wednesday, March 21, in Lowell, Mass.
Laurin Funeral Home of Lowell, Mass., was in charge of arrangements.
Louise Meta Gorman
RAPID CITY - Louise Gorman died at Clarkson Mountain View guest home in Rapid City on March 19, 2001.
Louise was born June 2, 1907, at Napier, Neb., the daughter of Fredericka and Ferdinand Klaudt.
In 1932, Louise married Ed Gorman in Tyndall.
She was a schoolteacher from the 1930s until retirement, with many of those years spent in the Platte area.
In 1945, Ed was awarded the Milwaukee Railroad depot agent position in Platte, and the family moved to Platte.
After retirement and Ed's death, Louise moved to Rapid City, where she lived the rest of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Anderson and her husband, Ed Anderson, Rapid City; her son, Don Gorman and his wife, Marsha Gorman, Hermosa; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Gorman, 13 brothers and sisters, and her parents.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Rapid City.

Mary Bell Wallace
MARTIN - Mary Bell Wallace, 88, Martin, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Valentine, Neb.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin Wallace, Rapid City, Clarence Wallace, Gillette, Wyo., and Edward Wallace, Martin; a daughter, Elsie Wallace, Valentine, Neb.; 41 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at Legion Auditorium in Martin, with the Rev. Terry Olthoff officiating. Burial will be at Merriman Community Cemetery in Merriman, Neb.

Emery Joseph Elk Looks Back
HE DOG - Emery Joseph Elk Looks Back was born Sept. 25, 1933, to John Narcisse Elk Looks Back and Amelia Ella Roubideaux.
He has two brothers, Allan Elk Looks Back (deceased) and Phillip Elk Looks Back (deceased), and two sisters, Marie Elk Looks Back LaBuff (deceased), and Theresa Black Bear of St. Francis.
He met and married Alfreda (Owns The Fire) Elk Looks Back in 1957. They shared one daughter together, Myrna Elk Looks Back. She married Wilbert Howeya of Alcoma, N.M., and to this union were born Wandina Howeya of He Dog and Matthew Elk Looks Back of Sioux Falls. Wandina had a son, Santana Paul Swallow, who was born in Sioux Falls on March 12, 2001, during Emery's hospitalization in Sioux Falls. He got to see his great-grandson before his passing on March 19.
After a time, Myrna met Peter Little Hoop, and to this union were born three sons, Phillip, Samuel and Richard; and two daughters, Elizabeth and Patricia Little Hoop. Patricia has one daughter, Lindsey Little Hoop Boneshirt. Emery was very proud of his two great-grandchildren. After Myrna's death, he raised all of his grandchildren.
Also surviving Emery are his nephew, Sylvan LaBuff of Gordon, Neb.; and two nieces, Stephanie LaBuff of Pierre, and Phyllis Elk Looks Back of He Dog. Also, his uncle, Backus Elk Looks Back; and aunts, Caroline Elk Looks Back, Theresa Elk Looks Back, and Eliza Elk Looks Back.
In February 1952, Emery joined the United States Marine Corps. He completed basic training in San Diego and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif. In 1953, he was sent to Korea and was stationed in the war zone, Camp Rose. He was outside and inside of military combat in the security force and in the weapons company. He earned medals, which included the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Medal in Rifle Firing Range. He participated in combat operations against Communist forces on the central Korean front and western Korean front, and in the defense of United Nations position in Korea. Emery recalls his friend and Marine buddy, Gilbert Bissonette of Pine Ridge, who passed away a year ago due to respiratory problems. Emery believes these respiratory problems he suffered came from the time spent in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a rank of Corporal in Feb. 21, 1955.
Wakes were held at the Elk Looks Back home in He Dog on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, then at St. Agnes Hall in Parmelee on Wednesday, March 21, 2001, and Thursday, March 22, 2001. Funeral services were held at St. Agnes Hall on Friday, March 23, 2001. Officiating were Father Neal Wilkinson and Father Glen Welshons, and Catechists Bill Little Thunder and Violet Crow Good Voice. Emery was laid to rest, with a military burial, at St. Agnes Cemetery in Parmelee, beside his only daughter, Myrna Elk Looks Back. His Indian name was Black Fox "Sungmanitu Sapa." Leland Little Dog sang an honoring song at the gravesite in his memory.
His pallbearers were Samuel Elk Looks Back, Phillip Little Hoop, Francis Richards, Sylvan LaBuff, Leroy Standing Cloud, Nick Elk Looks Back, Harvey Elk Looks Back, Michael Holy Eagle, and Leland Little Dog. Honorary bearers were I.H.S. staff, Father Neal Wilkinson, all veterans, PSI staff (Ben and Carma), Doug Moran, Susan Kary, Backus Elk Looks Back, John Charging Eagle, Peter Plumman, Leonard Crow Dog, Roy Stone and Gilly Running Singers.

HOT SPRINGS - Clifford Welch, 75, Hot Springs, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Welch, Hot Springs.

PORCUPINE - Arlene R. Chief, 36, Porcupine, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Gordon Memorial Hospital in Gordon, Neb.
Survivors include his father, David Chief, Ashland, Ore.; a sister, Dora Young Dog, Kyle; and four brothers, Waverly Chief Sr., Burton Chief Sr., and Robert Young Dog Sr., all of Porcupine, and Vernon Chief, Rapid City.
A two-night wake service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at the Porcupine C.A.P. Center in Porcupine.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Porcupine C.A.P. Center in Porcupine, with the Rev. Ron Fahr officiating. Wilmer Mesteth will perform traditional services. Burial will be at Gospel Mission Cemetery in Porcupine.

ALLEN - Thomas L. Fire Thunder, 54, Allen, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at the Fire Thunder home in Allen.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Fire Thunder, Allen, and Jennifer Fire Thunder, Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Charlene and Barbara Fire Thunder, both of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Kenneth Fire Thunder, Greensboro, N.C., and Rueben Fire Thunder, San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Yellow Bear Camp in Allen, with the Rev. Daniel Makes Good officiating. Eugene Reddest will perform traditional services.
Burial will be at Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Allen.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and one hour before services on Wednesday, March 28, at the church.
A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tueday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

WANBLEE - Stephan Red Elk, 82, Wanblee, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sturgis.
Survivors include five sons, Roger, Ernest, Calvin, Howard and Harlan Red Elk, all of Wanblee; three daughters, Lydia White Feather, Marlene Tules and Rosalie Red Elk, all of Wanblee; 34 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A two-night wake service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Crazy Horse School in Wanblee.

MARTIN - Joseph C. Marshall, 21, Martin, died Friday, March 23, 2001, in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include his father, Joseph Morrison, Lame Deer, Mont.; his mother, Donna Marshall, Martin; three sisters, Jule, Cordelia and Destaney Means, all of Martin; and a brother, Wesley Means Jr., Sandstone, Minn.
