Francis 'Frank' Lull LaVerne Lull

Frank A. Lull, 88, was born January 29, 1916, in Vermilion, South Dakota. He died October 5, 2004, at his home in Apple Valley, CA with his wife and daughters at his side. During W.W.II, Frank was in the Army and served in Europe. After the war he and his wife, LaVerne, made their home in Downey, CA for 32 years. After retiring from Tyre Brothers Glass Co. in 1978, he and LaVerne traveled between Arizona and Colorado finally settling in Apple Valley, CA in 1985.
LaVerne H. Muckey Lull, 83, was born November 2, 1921, in Yankton, South Dakota. She died January 5, 2005, in Fountain Valley, CA with her daughters at her side. LaVerne worked in Washington, DC during W.W.II. After the war LaVerne and Frank were married November 19, 1946. LaVerne was a homemaker and worked for North American and Duracell Batteries. While living in Apple Valley, she was active in Apple Valley Seniors Club and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Frank and LaVerne are survived by their daughters, Sharon Windhorst and her husband Gerrit of Huntington Beach, CA and Betty Lane and her husband Jon of Cypress, CA. They have two granddaughters, Lauren Windhorst and Hope Lane.

Frank and LaVerne were loving parents and grandparents. They went so quickly and are missed so much.

Charles H. Craig

Charles H. "Charlie" Craig, 75, of Yankton, SD, passed away on December 13, 2004, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton.
Charlie grew up in Tea, South Dakota, and then moved to Minnesota, where he began a career in real estate. His real love, however, was ranching and the great outdoors. He and his wife, Virginia, settled in Delano, Minnesota, where they lived for over 30 years and raised a family of seven children. After retirement, Charlie moved to Mexico, where he volunteered at an orphanage for several years. Charlie also traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Central America and enjoyed getting to know the Mexican people and learning about their culture.

A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2004, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Tea, SD, with Rev. David Stevens officiating.

Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials preferred to the Charlie Craig Memorial Fund to continue his work with orphaned children in Mexico; 191 Sleepy Hollow Drive, Yankton, SD 57078.

John Wiltz

WAGNER -- John Wiltz, 93, of Wagner died Friday, December 31, 2004, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Betsy Wiltz, Wagner, of cancer.
There will be a memorial service at the Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered at a later date.

John was born on Oct. 19, 1911, in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, to Leo and Annette (Fischer) Wiltz. He attended schools in Chicago, IL, and graduated from Tilden Technical High School in 1928.

On Thanksgiving Day, 1937, he married Lucille Ireta Olson in Chicago where they spent their working lives. Lucille died in 1969.

John lost his father in a Chicago grain elevator explosion when he was ten years old. At the time, his mother was pregnant with his youngest sister, Rita. He began supplementing the family income by repairing small appliances and then moving on to automobiles. In 1933-34, he worked at the Chicago World's Fair as a maintenance man in the eight Swift & Co. restaurants. He was employed by Oldsmobile from 1935-1939 where he had some input into the development of the automatic transmission. He then went to Chrysler Corp., where he remained until the end of W.W. II working on rotary bomber engines, including the B-29. Most of that time was spent working 16-hour shifts seven days a week. His jobs were many, but he spent his last 19 years working for the Harper-Wyman Co. He was a master machinist, tool & die maker, and model maker. He retired in 1975.

John was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved sports; home building projects; playing hearts, cribbage and pool; and hunting and fishing in his later years. He made his last wilderness fishing trip at the age of 88.

He is survived by his daughter: Janet Krejci and her husband Bill of Mokena, IL; his sons: Roger and wife Betsy of Wagner; and Michael and wife Susan of Chicago; and daughter-in-law Barbara Wiltz Knox of Grand Marias, MN; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his sisters, Rita and Helen; and his son, John.

Memorials should be directed to his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Betsy Wiltz of Wagner. They have chosen Sacred Heart Hospice and Friends of Wagner Lake as benefactors.

LaMont 'Monty' Williams

MISSION, Kan. -- LaMont Joseph "Monty" Williams, 44, passed away at his residence in Mission, Kan.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ (Congregational), Vermillion, with Gene Thin Elk and Steve Miller officiating. Burial is in the St. Anthony Cemetery, Fairfax, at approximately 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and will continue until service time at the church with a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday.

The Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.

James M. Hayward

TYNDALL -- James M. Hayward, age 82, of Tyndall, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at St. Michael's Hospital in Tyndall.
Visitation is from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Goglin-Kelley Funeral Chapel, Tyndall, South Dakota, resuming at noon on Friday until time of services at the church.

Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2005, at United Methodist Church, Tyndall, South Dakota, with the Rev. Phil Lint officiating.

Honorary Casketbearers are The Tyndall Accordion Club.

Casketbearers are John Radack, Drew Hayward, Greg Pudwill, Kenny Hayward, Doug Nelson and Fred Koupal.

Interment is in the Tyndall Cemetery, Tyndall, South Dakota.

James Mark Hayward was born on June 3, 1922, in Avon, South Dakota to Harold and Maude (McLane) Hayward. He graduated from Avon High School in 1941. Following high school, James worked on a mink ranch in Rapid City. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California prior to joining the Air Force in 1942. James served during WWII from 1942 until 1945, and was awarded two Purple Heart citations for injuries received during battle. He later returned to the Avon area and worked for Schroeder Implement. James owned and operated the Avalon Theater in Avon. He went to work for Hento Brothers in Avon as a mechanic and for the Cargill Elevator in Avon. He married Marjorie (Riedinger) Mennis in 1973 in Tyndall, and she passed away in 1983. He worked for the Freeman Company in Yankton and for Chicago Rawhide in Springfield, retiring in 1984.

James loved flowers, going fishing and music. He had a danceband called Jimmy and the Sidekicks and was the business manager for the Tyndall Accordion Club.

James' memory will be cherished by two brothers: Dennis (Mary) Hayward of Rapid City and Arron (Marie) Hayward of Colorado Springs, Colorado; six sisters: Bettie Pudwill of Avon; Mary (Harold) Grimme of Springfield; Shirley (Brice) Miller of Menno; Patsy (Albert) Neu of Date Palm, California; Peggy (Edward) Lesie of America Falls, Idaho; and Charlene (Richard) Nelson of Sioux Falls; three stepsons: Clayton Mennis, Richard Mennis and Mark Mennis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents, Harold and Maude; his brothers, Don Hayward and Clarence Hayward; and his sisters, June Hancock, Opal Radack and Elva Jones.

Denelda Suing

ST. HELENA, Neb. -- Denelda Clara Suing, age 82 of St. Helena, Nebraska, died on Monday, January 17, 2005, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, SD.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church in St. Helena, NE with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Helena, NE.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 19th from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 2:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. all at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, NE. Visitation resumes Thursday morning one hour prior to service at the Church in St. Helena.

Honorary Pallbearers are Delelda's Grandchildren.

Denelda Clara Suing was born on December 28, 1922, in St. Helena, NE to Frank and Veronica (Bader) Bender. She grew up in the St. Helena area. She married Erwin L. Suing on June 14, 1949, in St. Helena, NE. She and Erwin farmed southwest of St. Helena. Erwin died on May 22, 2001, at the age of 85.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Helena, the Altar Society and Christian Mothers.

Denelda is survived by five children and spouses: Carlin and Brian Yonke, Liberty, MO; Terry and Ann Suing, Yuma, AZ; Janet and Marcel Arens, Hartington, NE; Kelly and Coleen Suing, St. Helena, NE; and Lea and Tom Marsh, Hartington, NE; 11 grandchildren; three brothers and wives: Leonard "Sam" Bender, Newcastle, NE; Tom and Mariam Bender, St. Charles, MO; and Eldred "Ben" Bender, Boise, Idaho; and one sister: Grace Bonertz, Yankton, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers: Jule and George Bender; three sisters: Josie Veach, Lucina Bender and Frances Hausman.

Gilbert Kapfenstein

LESTERVILLE -- Gilbert W. Kapfenstein, age 64, of Lesterville, South Dakota, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Avera Yankton Care Center, Yankton.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2005, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton with the Reverend Dean Schroeder officiating. Inurnment will be at Trondhjem Lutheran Cemetery in rural Volin, South Dakota.

Gilbert was born April 11, 1940, at Delmont, South Dakota to Edwin and Addie (Powers) Kapfenstein. He grew up on a farm in rural Delmont and graduated from Wagner High School in 1958. After school, he served in the United States National Guard for six years. After his service with the Guard, he moved to Yankton where he worked at the Human Services Center for 35 years until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one son, Doug Kapfenstein of Brookings, South Dakota; one daughter, Pam Nordquist of Wagner, South Dakota; four grandchildren; his mother, Addie Kapfenstein of Lesterville; three sisters and their husbands: Darlene and Cliff Gullikson of Yankton, Gloria and Larry Schurman of Yankton and Marilyn and Jim Lynch of Burlington, Vermont; one brother and his wife, Donald and Bernie Kapfenstein of Freeport, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin and his wife, Joyce.

Margaret K. Wuebben

HARTINGTON, Neb. -- Margaret K. Wuebben, age 91 of Hartington, Nebraska, died on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Beverly Health Care in Hartington, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 24, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fordyce with Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Fordyce.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a rosary at 2:00 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington. There will be a vigil service Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Pallbearers are Lonnie Folkers, Doug Svacina, Todd Hilfiker, Jeff Hilfiker, Brian Hilfiker, Brad Hilfiker, Craig Wuebben, Cody Bonertz.

Honorary pallbearers are the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Margaret was born on August 3, 1913, at Constance to Frank and Katherine (Guenther) Schieffer. She grew up in the Constance area and attended grade school in Constance where she boarded with the nuns during many of her school years. She married Steve B. Wuebben April 22, 1941, at Constance. He died on September 24, 1978. After her marriage they spent one year on a farm near Menominee and then moved to a farm just west of Fordyce. She lived there until moving to the Beverly Square Assisted Living on December 11, 2003.

The joys of her life were her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She crocheted hundreds of afghans and doilies, and gave them all away. She milked cows and raised and butchered chickens for many years. She loved to sew, bake, play cards, visit and help anywhere she could.

She was very active in St. John the Baptist Church and was a member of the Altar Society, Ministry of Praise, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America and the Solitaires.

Margaret is survived by 5 children and their spouses: Darlene and Dale Svacina, Lesterville, SD; Francis and Pat Wuebben, Yankton; Del Rae and Phil Hilfiker, Fordyce; Robert and Linda Wuebben, Fordyce; Marcella and Gerald Bonertz, Swanton, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Pauline and Ferd Spenner, Hartington; Florence Jepsen, Kearney; 3 sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kralicek, Yankton; Helen Schieffer, Yankton; Lorraine Schieffer, Hartington; one brother-in-law, Edgar (Teddy) Wuebben, Wynot; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 6 brothers: Conrad, Victor, Lawrence, Norbert, Alphonse and Edwin Schieffer; one sister, Marcella Spenner; and 2 grandchildren.

Fred Peschl

DE SMET -- Fred Peschl, 85, of De Smet and formerly of Yankton, died Jan. 10, 2005.
Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, De Smet, with the Rev. Cathal Gallagher officiating. Burial was in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Cemetery, De Smet.

Dorothy Andersh

WAGNER -- Dorothy B. Andersh, 91, of Wagner died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2005) at her home in Wagner.
Funeral services are pending with Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home, Wagner.

James Chase

HUFFMAN, Texas -- James Henry Chase, 64 of Huffman, Texas, died Thursday (Jan. 20, 2005) at Memorial City Hospital, Houston.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Irene.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Hansen Funeral Home, Irene.

Harriet Cody

Harriet Cody, 85, of Yankton, died Thursday (February 3, 2005). She was lovingly cared for by the staff of Sister James Nursing Home and will be deeply missed by them and her family.
Harriet graduated from Mount Marty College and always felt closer to God in the presence of the sisters at the Mount. Hence, it is with deep gratitude that we celebrate Harriet's life and death with the Sister's she so loved. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 7, 2005, at the Bishop Marty Chapel at Mount Marty, 7:00 a.m. We hope that her many friends can join her children and grandchildren in prayer.

Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton is in charge of the arrangements.

Harriet was the 2nd daughter of Clifford and Loretta Alden and was born November 27, 1919. She and her sister, Priscilla were direct descendents of John and Priscilla Alden who traveled to America on the Mayflower. We happily celebrated many "Thanksgiving" birthdays with Mom. Harriet was married to John "Jack" Cody who preceded her in death in 1998.

Survivors include their children: Rita, Jim, Tom, Julie, Mike, Pat and Nick; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Harriet especially loved her wonderful caring daughters-in-law: Judy, Mary Dell, Stella and Denise and her sons-in-law: John and Jerry.

We hope she knows how much she was loved and will be missed.
