Janet C. Link, age 80, of Yankton, passed away unexpectedly at her residence early Monday, September, 1, 2008. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Private family burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton. Visitations will be from 6-8 PM, Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Janet Claire Brooke Link was born on September 27, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois to Francis Ambrose Brooke, a Notre Dame Graduate, and to Madeline Davies Brooke, an Illinois socialite. Janet's grandfather, Flavius Lionel Brooke, held the position as the 42nd Justice of the Supreme Court of Michigan from 1908-1921.

Janet was raised most of her life in the Rock Island and Moline, Illinois areas. She attended a private all-girls school, the former Villa de Chantal in Rock Island, and graduated with honors from Moline High School in June 1945. That same year, Janet attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri and graduated with a two-year Associate of Arts degree in June 1947. She was the President of Harmon Residence Hall, Treasurer of the International Relations Club, Treasurer of the Senior Class, and a member of the Young Women's Christian Association.

Janet Brooke and Robert Link were married in April 1947. They lived in both Davenport and West Des Moines, Iowa while Janet stayed at home raising three girls and Bob worked at 1040 WHO.

In 1962 Bob, Janet and family moved to Yankton. Janet worked as a medical records clerk and receptionist at the Yankton Medical Clinic for 29 years.

Janet, also known as Granny, loved to read, laugh at Maxine, watch Jerry Springer, work crossword puzzles, read People and Vanity Fair, enjoy See's Chocolates or anything chocolate, eat Tastees, Charlie's Pizza, and BLT sandwiches. Granny also loved to talk about celebrities as if they were her next-door neighbors.

Granny's colorful personality, contagious laughter, quick wit, entertaining stories, expansive vocabulary, worldly etiquette knowledge, amazing memory, original humor, celebrity gossip, movie memorabilia, monogrammed sheets, Love that Red lipstick, and truly, vivacious spirit will be sadly and greatly missed.

I only hope you were so lucky to have met Granny or my Grand Ma-Ma. She was an icon, role model, and socialite of a generation that used to be, and a generation that is no longer found. She was, without a doubt, a one of a kind lady and definitely a one of a kind show.

Keep laughing, eating bacon, and enjoying your crosswords, Gran. "Oh Stars!" Hopefully now you'll be decent, Granny. However, I'm sure you're still sternly replying back as usual, "I'm never decent child!"---"Good Show! Gran, Good Show!"

Roger Francis Beauleau passed away on July 25th, 2008 at the age of 79. Roger was born to Fredrick and Annie Mae (Barteaux) Beauleau on April 30, 1929 in Greenwich, CT.

Those are the facts, but let me tell you a little about my Dad:

Dad grew up in Greenwich and Stamford, CT. One summer night in 1950 he asked Ann Keeler out on a date. I guess she thought he was a pretty good guy because they were married on July 2, 1951. Every year for the next 57 years he would renew his "contract" and given the opportunity, would have done so for the next 57 as well.

Dad proudly served with the U.S. Air Force in Korea. It was during his time in the Air Force that he fell in love with airplanes. Although he never became a pilot, his colonel taught him how to fly. Those remained some of his best memories for the rest of his life. While Dad was in Korea, Mom gave birth to their first daughter Sharon Ann. Barbara Jean would follow 6 years later.

When Dad came home from Korea he followed his brothers into the trucking business. Dad went on to drive for the next 40 years - logging more than 4 million miles - without so much as a parking ticket. He was the first trucker in his company to receive his doubles license in the State of New York. Tired of spending every winter snowbound in Buffalo, NY he and Mom retired in 1992 and moved to Dudley, North Carolina. They spent the next 12 years there before relocating to Yankton.

Dad had a few real passions...music, airplanes and discussing politics. Dad would pick up his guitar and play at the drop of a hat. He had a voice like velvet and prior to his passing performed at a few local nursing homes with his friend, Gordon Olson. He had a great sense of humor and would often wake himself up laughing due to some silly dream. He liked to sing and dance around the house twirling Mom as she did dishes or just serenading her while she read. He could play just about any instrument you put in front of him. He was a master at corny jokes and puns. He loved working in the yard and was proud of Mom's ability to make the yard come alive with flowers. In his day, he was a great racquetball player and a fierce opponent. He loved getting out and meeting new people and made many friends during his short time in Yankton. He was a member of the Ernest Bowyer VFW and liked volunteering to sell poppies for them. And you didn't want to mention George W. Bush in his presence...unless you had a few hours to kill.

But most of all Dad was a family man. Surrounded by women (even our dogs were female) he always did his best to provide for us and protect us. His favorite moments were when he was surrounded by his "girls".

Dad leaves behind the love of his life, (Lillian) Ann Beauleau of Yankton and his two biggest fans: Sharon Biscardi of Yankton and Barbara (Rick) Stahlecker of Yankton. In the "younger" fan department he leaves his grand-daughters Carol Michalski of Fairfield, Ct.; Shannon Luna of Sioux Falls, and Brande Beach of El Paso, TX. And his youngest fans of all: great-grandson Matthew Michalski, great-granddaughters Kailey Jean Banks and Abigail Lily Luna, both of Sioux Falls. He was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings, Freddie, Harry, Bobby, Richard, Mildred, Ruth, Helen & Eleanor. At Roger's request, there will be no services. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society; 4904 S, Technopolis Dr.; Sioux Falls, SD 57016. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.

We'll miss you Dad. See you soon.
