Funeral services for Janice Arlene Thomas were held Friday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in Parkston.
Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston were in charge of arrangements.
Janice Arlene Thomas was born Oct. 7, 1938, to Merle and Arley Renli in Sioux Falls. She graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1956.
She was united in marriage to Leo Thomas April 2, 1956. Immediately following their marriage, the couple moved to California. She was involved in many of her children’s activities, including serving as a cub scout and Girl Scout leader, church activities, PTA, Band Booster Club and the children’s sports teams. They moved to Parkston in 1998.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, was involved in many of the women’s activities and served on many of the boards. She delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband.
She died Tuesday, June 19, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. She attained the age of 73 years.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Leo, Parkston; her children, Steven (Cristine) Thomas, Sioux Falls, Mike (Cheryl) Thomas, Parkston, Sheryl (Greg) Plamp, Mitchell, and Keith Thomas, Parkston; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Arley Renli; grandparents; special aunt Phyllis Keating; niece; sister-in-law; and brother-in-law.
Karl Blaufuss, 71
April 27, 1940 - April 1, 2012
Karl Theophil Blaufuss was born April 27, 1940. He was a member of the Shrine, the American Legion and the Elks.
He owned and operated Blaufuss Consulting out of his home in Lake Elsinore, Calif. For the last 15 years, he investigated construction material defects.
He died April 1, 2012, of a heart attack.
He is survived by five children, Erik and wife, Scott and wife, Ken, Diana and husband, and Garry, and 12 grandchildren.
Leone (Thalmann) Haar, 96
April 21, 1916 - June 18, 2012
Funeral services for Leone Onie Haar were held Saturday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman.

Leone “Onie” Haar was born April 21, 1916, to Fred and Margaret (Wick) Thalmann on the family farm near Ottertail, Minn. She attended parochial school through the eighth grade.
She was united in marriage to Roland Haar Dec. 16, 1936, at Freeman. The couple lived in Freeman, where she worked for a short time in the local restaurant, but mostly was an at-home mother and housewife.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Freeman, where she sang in the church choir and held offices in the Ladies Aid and LWML.
She died Monday, June 18, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. She attained the age of 96 years.
She is survived by her daughter, June (Ken) Roth, Bridgewater; 12 grandchildren, Shelly (Keith) Brown, Lamars, Iowa, Shannon (Debra) Haar, Parkway, Wyo., Cody (Brittany) Haar, Sheridan, Wyo., Brett Jorgensen, Sioux Falls, Nicki Dvorak, Sioux Falls, Bryan (Pam) Roth, Salem, Craig (Heidi) Roth, Freeman, Suzette (Mike) Oolman, Avondale, Ariz., Michelle (Scott) Rooney, Omaha, Neb., Jacob (Paula) Haar, Lennox, Joshua Haar, Sioux Falls, and Jared (Katie) Haar, Sioux Falls; 20 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy (Curt) Matzen, Sioux Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; and two sons, Ralph and Dale.
Sylvia (Herman) Kirschenman, 87
April 8, 1925 - June 18, 2012
Funeral Mass for Sylvia Kirschenman was held Monday, June 25, at St. Benedictine Catholic Church in Yankton.
Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Yankton, with Hansen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sylvia Herman was born April 8, 1925, in Hutchinson County to Joseph and Genevieve (Wieger) Herman. She attended Parochial School in Parkston and Country School in Hutchinson County and received her GED later in life.
She married Leo Kirschenman Feb. 26, 1946, in Parkston. They lived together for 30 years in the house that her family and husband built on the farm east of Menno, before moving to Yankton.
She worked as an office manager for the K-Mart Company for 13 years, and after her retirement, she continued to do bookkeeping for various companies in the Yankton area.
She died Monday, June 18, at the Avera Yankton Care Center in Yankton. She attained the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her husband, Leo, Yankton; daughter, Lisa (Daniel) Ven Osdel, Gayville; sister, Margaret Carlson, Sioux Falls; brother, Gerald (Nori) Herman, Parkston; four grandchildren, Carrie (Dan) Mart, Jacob, Joseph and Casey Ven Osdel; two great-grandchildren, Carter Mart and Penny Ven Osdel; and fuzzy child, Fritzi.
Dwight Lockwood, 89
July 23, 1922 - June 12, 2012
Funeral services for Dwight Albert Lockwood were held Friday, June 15, at Bethel United Church of Christ, Nebraska City, Neb., with the Rev. Rodger Good officiating. Music was furnished by the congregation and Judy Herzog, organist.
Interment was in the St. John’s (McWilliams) Cemetery, Talmage, Neb., with Marshall Funeral Chapels, Nebraska City, in charge of arrangements.
Dwight Albert Lockwood was born July 23, 1922, in Golden Valley, N.D., the son of Jay A. and Gertrude L. (Peabody) Lockwood.
He married Nelda Bader Aug. 1, 1957. Nelda died June 6, 2010.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a former school teacher and administrator. He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City and A.A.R.P. He lived in several communities in North Dakota, Falls City, Neb., Talmage, Neb., and Nebraska City, Neb., before moving to Lincoln, Neb., two years ago.
He died Tuesday, June 12, at Bryan LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln, Neb., at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 19 days.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Amy) Lockwood, Paul Lockwood and James Lockwood, all of Lincoln; step-grandchildren, Emery and Edward; brother-in-law, the Rev. Theodore (Vernetta) Bader, Parkston; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother-in-law, Alvin Bader; sister-in-law, Leona Bader Knaus and husband, Albert.
Lester Huey, 78

Lester John Huey died June 16 at home, surrounded by his family.
A service will be held Saturday, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the Salem United Church of Christ, Parkston. Graveside services will follow at the Dakota City Cemetery.
A gathering will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Parkston.
Todd Radel, 51

Funeral services for Todd L. Radel were held July 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea.
The George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, was in charge of arrangements.
Todd Len Radel, son of Gilbert and Belva (Snyder) Radel, was born March 22, 1961, in Parkston. As an infant, he lived with his family for a short time in Gregory before they moved to Sioux Falls. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1979.
While still in high school, he worked for a short time for the Sioux Falls Police Department. He then worked for many years in the reconditioning department at Vern Eide Motorcars. In 2000, he became manager and co-owner of the 10th Street AutaWash. He continued work there up to the time of his death.
He was united in marriage with Susan Walsh Sept. 21, 2002, in Sioux Falls.
He died Thursday, July 5, at Sanford USD Medical Center. He attained the age of 51 years.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Vincent, at home; parents, Gilbert and Belva Radel, Sioux Falls; brother, Chad (Angela) Radel, Sioux Falls; two nephews, Gustaf and Jack Radel; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Robert Jaeger, 72

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” William Jaeger were held July 6 at 10 a.m. at the Bethesda Mennonite Church, rural Marion.
Burial was in the St. Ann Cemetery, Geddes, with Hofmesiter-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion, in charge of arrangements.
Robert “Bob” William Jaeger was born March 22, 1940, in Wagner to Anthony and Teresa (Temme) Jaeger.
He grew up on a farm near Bovee and went to country school there, graduating from Geddes High School in 1958.
He married Cheryl Pavlis Nov. 26, 1966, in Elkhart, Ind. Cheryl died Feb. 18, 2006.
He worked on missile sites after high school and was in the National Guard for 10 years. He moved to Elkhart, Ind., in 1965 and worked for National Trailer Convoy, delivering trailer houses around the country. In 1968, they moved to Dolton, where he continued to live the rest of his life. In 1969 and 1970, he ran a tower crane for Henry Carlson Co., until he bought his first backhoe in 1970. He owned and operated Jaeger Digging and raised hogs for 20 years. He was a rural mail carrier for the Dolton and Bridgewater post offices until his health no longer permitted him to work full-time. Bob and Cheryl worked together for Jack’s Campers in Mitchell, delivering campers around the country, which he continued to do after Cheryl’s death. He was a Vigortone Feed dealer for 39 years. He had a heart transplant July 24, 1994.
He died Sunday, July 1, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 72 years.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise (Dave) Ehlers, Newcastle, Wyo., Gloria (Pete) Horvath, Dolton, and Lori (Glen) Dewald, Tripp; seven grandchildren, Dillon and Rachel Ehlers, Austin, Ashley and Aaron Horvath, and Emily and Leah Dewald; three sisters, Sr. Mary Jaeger, Sioux Falls, Madeline (Jim) Stoltz, LeSueur, Minn., and JoAnn (Dennis) DeBoer, Huron; 10 brothers, Jerome Jaeger, St. Peter, Minn., Richard Jaeger, Aurora, Colo., George (Eileen) Jaeger, Tyndall, Don (Lila) Jaeger, Bridgewater, Tom (Elaine) Jaeger, Platte, Lawrence (Colleen) Jaeger, Geddes, Kenneth (Cindy) Jaeger, Herrold, Gene (Peggy) Jaeger, Rapid City, Roger (Cindy) Jaeger, Aurora, Colo., and Raymond (Kim) Jaeger, Rapid City; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl; his parents; and a sister-in-law, Martha Jaeger.
Adela (Weber) Hohn, 90

Funeral services for Adela M. Hohn were held July 16 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Dimock, with burial at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Will Funeral, Mitchell, was in charge of the arrangements.
Adela Weber, the daughter of Peter L. and Anna (Kurtenbach) Weber, was born April 25, 1922, on the family farm near Parkston. She received her education in Parkston and Dimock parochial grade schools.
She was united in marriage with Alvin Hohn Jan. 10, 1944, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. The couple farmed west of Dimock, raised three sons, retired and moved to Dimock in 1981. They both were active in the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Adela was a member of the Altar Society and taught religion classes for many years. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting in the winter and gardening and canning during the summer.
She died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. She attained the age of 90.
Adela is survived by three sons, Tom (Sharon) Hohn, Sterling, Va., John (Kathy) Hohn, Mt. Carmel, Ill., Paul Hohn, San Ramon, Calif.; special friend, Sheri Ellerbeck; seven grandchildren, John N., Matthew, Ryan, David, Rachel Hohn, Amanda (Hohn) McCoy, and Brett Cayer; seven great-grandchildren, Kerrick and Keagan Hohn, Austin, Brianna and Samuel McCoy, Holden and Jonah Cayer; one sister, Mary Ann Puetz; and two brothers, Pat Weber and Dale Weber.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin, Dec. 18, 2004; her parents; three brothers, Victor, Willard and Marlyn Weber; two sisters, Lillian Jenks and Donna Puetz; and a daughter-in-law, Lynne (Friday) Hohn.
Gerald Thill, 79

Gerald “Jerry” H. Thill died July 14 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. A funeral Mass will be Wednesday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ethan. Arrangements are by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston.
Gerald H. Thill was born March 21, 1933, to Joseph and Josephine (Hohn) Thill. After his schooling years, he began farming in the Ethan area and eventually worked for Blasius Trucking and Weber Sanitation. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ethan. He died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston. He attained the age of 79.
He is survived by several cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Regina Delzer; and a brother in infancy.
