Harlo Vetter, 70

Funeral services for Harlo A. Vetter were held Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at First American Lutheran Church in Tripp with Pastor Brad Danielson officiating. Music was furnished by the congregation and the Men’s Choir, and Karen Huether, organist.
Interment was made in the Gracehill Cemetery, Tripp, with Goglin Memorial Chapel, Tripp, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were his nephews, Jerry Fischer, Dennis Fischer, Myron Fischer, Paul Fischer, David Fischer, Mark Fischer and Brian Fischer.
Harlo Albert Vetter was born Sunday, May 14, 1939, in Tripp to Albert and Clara (Pietz) Vetter. He was baptized on July 11, 1939, and was confirmed on June 20, 1954. He was a member of the First American Lutheran Church. He baked kuchens, some of which earned blue ribbons at the Hutchinson County Fair.
He died on Thursday, June 11, at the age of 70 years and 27 days.
He is survived by his twin sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Gebhardt Fischer, Menno; seven nephews, Jerry and wife, Amy, Dennis, Myron and wife, Heidi, Paul, David and wife, Jodi, Mark and wife, Michelle, Brian and wife, Stephanie; and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Vetter; mother, Clara Vetter; and step-mother, Ida Vetter.
Lorraine (Hohn) McHugh, 88
January 26, 1921 - June 8, 2009
Funeral services for Lorraine McHugh were held Friday, June 12, 2009, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Burial was made in the Calvary Cemetery with Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, in charge of arrangements.
Lorraine Hohn, daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Miiller) Hohn, was born January 26, 1921, at Ethan.
She was united in marriage with Edward (Ted) McHugh on November 16, 1942, in Mitchell. The couple made their home in Mitchell. Together they owned and operated SouthSide Garage and Radiator Shop from 1974 to 1996. She moved to Fremont, Neb., in 2007 to be closer to her daughter.
She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell for many years. Later in life she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fremont.
She died Monday, June 8, at Hooper Care Center in Hooper, Neb. She attained the age of 88 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Byron) LaMont, Fremont, Neb.; two grandchildren, Chad LaMont, Fremont, Neb., and Lauri Patterson, Fremont, Neb.; three great-grandchildren, Kali, Mia, and Mason Patterson, all of Fremont, Neb.; sister, Adeline Sprecher, Mitchell; three sisters-in-law, June Hohn, Mitchell, Irene Hohn, Letcher, and Betty McHugh, Minneapolis, Minn.; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted McHugh in 2000; her parents; three brothers, Norman, Delmar and Dick; a brother-in-law, Ewald Sprecher; and a nephew, Doug Sprecher.
Frank Kvasnicka, Jr., 93

A funeral Mass for Frank Peter Kvasnicka Jr. was held Thursday, June 11, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, Scotland, with Fr. Mathew Vazhappilly as celebrant. Music was furnished by the congregation and the St. George Choir, and Georginna Pravecek, organist.
Interment was made in the St. George Catholic Cemetery, Scotland, with Goglin Funeral Home, Scotland, in charge of arrangements. Honorary casketbearers were Dennis Ded, Ken Fousek, Rodney Ozanne, Jim Tucek and Zack Waldner. Casketbearers were David Kvasnicka, John Soukup, Paul Soukup, Ron Wagner, Jason Sedlacek and Joe Sedlacek Jr.
Frank Peter Kvasnicka Jr. was born October 4, 1915, to Frank and Christina (Jezek) Kvasnicka Sr. at McKlusky, N.D. At a very young age, they moved to South Dakota and purchased a farm south of Tripp where he attended rural school District #48.
He married Evelyn A. Wagner at Yankton on June 26, 1939. They lived and raised their family on the family farm. They retired from farming in the early 70’s. Their son, Eugene, helped them through those years so they could remain on the family farm until the fall of 1997. They moved to Lidi Apartments in Tyndall until October 2003 when they moved to the Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
He was a life-long member of St. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church in Vodnany.
He was a Flying Farmer after he became a pilot in the early 1940s. He went to blacksmith school and set up a blacksmith shop on the farm. He rebuilt several Model-A and Model-T vehicles. He built a helicopter and snowmobile along with replicas of a stagecoach and a buckboard. He built a replica of the Vodnany Catholic Church for the 100-year celebration. The replicas are in the Scotland Museum. He played accordion music.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Eugene F. Kvasnicka and Mary Kay Rokusek, Yankton, and Elaine (Patrick) Soukup, Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren, John (Amy) Soukup, Peoria, Ariz., Paul Soukup, Winona, Minn., David Kvasnicka, Pocatello, Ida., Laurie (Beth) Struchen, Chubbic, Idaho; and two great-grandchildren, Tony Kvasnicka and Dayna Kvasnicka, Pocatello, Idaho; sister, Lorraine (Frank) Martz, Wakonda; brother-in-law, Bernie Wagner, Yankton; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charles F. Kvasnicka, August 2001; his parents, Frank and Christina; and an infant sister, Josephine.
Kaydence Dant, 3 months

Funeral services Kaydence Dant were held Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at 10 a.m., at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Huron.
Burial was made in the Draper Cemetery with Welter Funeral Home, Huron, in charge of arrangements.
Kaydence Lei Dant was born on February 17, 2009, to Ricky and Vicki (Fosheim) Dant at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
She died Thursday, June 11, at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. She attained the age of three months.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents, LeAnn (Marshall) and Tory Fosheim, Pierre, Rich (Deb) Dant, Freeman, and Cherri Schoon, Parkston; great-grandparents, Rich and Nina Stirling, Parkston, Nate and Darlis Schillinger, Salem, Jackie Fosheim, Murdo, and Shorty and Dianne Marshall, Draper; great-great-grandmother, Elnora Hulce, Presho; six aunts; and five uncles.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, George Fosheim; and a great-grandmother, Shirley Arens.
Kenneth Wolf, 66

Funeral services for Kenneth Alvin Wolf were held Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.
Burial was in the church cemetery with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Alvin Wolf was born September 3, 1943, to Alvin and Marcella (Kirsh) Wolf in Mitchell.
He was united in marriage to Lois Knigge on August 10, 1961. They lived in White Lake where he worked at the grocery store and later owned and operated White Lake Produce. In 1970, they moved to Parkston where he was employed as a milk truck deliveryman as well as being employed by the Parkston Creamery. In 1976, he began selling seed for Moorman’s Feed. After 31 years, he retired from Moorman’s. He was also a licensed cattle buyer, owned and operated motels and apartments, was a salesman and businessman.
He died Friday, Jan. 22, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. He attained the age of 66 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, Parkston; mother, Marcella Wolf, Howard; 11 children, Roxane (Rodney) Wentz, Armour, Anthony (Jodi) Wolf, Parkston, Louise (Curt) Gillen, White Lake, Sandra (Duane) Vanden Hoek, Corsica, Michael (Julie) Wolf, Parkston, Teresa (James) Mann, Parkston, Karen (Robert) Donelan, Elk Point, Barbara (Charles) McKean, Parkston, John (Cok) Wolf, Sioux Falls, Mary (Adam) Whitehill, New Berlin, Wis., and Daniel (Jessica) Wolf, Parkston; 30 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Rose (Larry) Kieffer, Howard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin; son, Steven Wolf; two grandchildren, Becca and Robyn Wentz; two brothers, Francis and Donald Wolf; and a sister, Louise Wolf.
Walter Heckenlaible, 78
April 4, 1931 - February 23, 2010
Funeral services for Walter L. Heckenlaibel were held Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mitchell, with the Revs. John Hansen and Roger Semmler officiating. Music was furnished by Tom Sperlich. Lola Cranny was organist.
Burial was in the Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery, Mitchell, with military honors. Bittner Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, was in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Bruce Bauer, Tim Semmler, Gerry Semmler, Tom Semmler, Ron Semmler and Wayne Semmler.
Walter was born April 4, 1931, to Emil and Emma (Koerner) Heckenlaible at Menno. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On Nov. 18, 1956, he married Annetta Semmler at the Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. They farmed near Bridgewater until 1983, then moved to Mitchell. While in Mitchell, he worked at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital for over 25 years.
He was charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and was a member of the Bridgewater American Legion. He sang with the Mitchell Barbership Chorus and the Gentleman’s Quartet for many years.
He died Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 78 years.
He is survived by his wife, Annetta; three daughters, Peggy Lou Heckenlaible, Bozeman, Mont., Beverly Louma and husband, Brian, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Dr. Myra Jean Gotto and husband, Kevin, Windom, Minn.; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Caroline Brandsma and husband, Bob, Sioux Falls, Lillian Weiland, Rochester, Minn., and Marilyn Lovett and husband, Jim, Harrisburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Harold Willaredt; and nephew, Mark Willaredt.
Shirley (Calvert) Pettersen, 80

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Pettersen were held Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, Canton.
Burial was in the Castlewood Cemetery, Castlewood, with Anderson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Shirley was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Castlewood to Leon and Shirley (Rounds) Calvert. She grew up and attended school in Castlewood.
She was united in marriage to Paul M. Petterson Sept. 22, 1949, in Bismarck, N.D. They lived in Minneapolis, Minn., and Hot Springs, Ark., before moving to Brookings in 1964. She worked in a dental lab for the Brookings Police Department and various other jobs while in Brookings. They moved to Canton in 1972 and lived in Worthington, Minn., for five years before returning in 1983. Following her husband’s death in 2000, she moved to Parkston to be near her daughter, Paulette.
She died Tuesday, June 14, at Avera Bormann Manor, Parkston. She attained the age of 80 years.
She is survived by her son, Robert, Rock Valley, Iowa; daughter, Paulette Mangold, Parkston; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna Greenfield, Twin Falls, Idaho, and Geraldine (Lloyd) Verley, Canton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Jean and Wilva.
Mary (Richters) Bintliff, 68
March 23, 1943 - November 21, 2011
A memorial service for Mary Bintliff was held Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, Kan., with Dr. Gerry Dupuis officiating.
A private family burial will take place at a later date, with arrangements by Garnand Funeral Home.
She was born March 23, 1943, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Fredrick J. and Lillian (Wormsbecker) Richters.
She grew up and attended schools in Tripp. She lived in Tripp until 2000, when she moved to Scotland. She has lived in Garden City, Kan., since 2006.
She died Monday, Nov. 21, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She attained the age of 68 years.
She is survived by a son, Dan and wife, Misty Richters, Garden City, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Barbara Mahoney and Beverly Richters.
Leona (Friedrich) Sedlezky, 97
January 21, 1914 - January 8, 2012
Funeral services for Leona P. Sedlezky were held Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Menno, with the Rev. David Ellis officiating.
Burial was in the Menno Cemetery with Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Darren Sedlezky, Kevin Sedlezky, Chris Savey, Steven Stern, Neil Fosum and Mike Stern.
Leona was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Tripp to Richard and Lydia (Bietz) Friedrich. She was baptized at the Hoffnugstal Church and confirmed at Klum Church in rural Tripp.
On Jan. 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to Edwin Sedlezky in Kaylor, with the Rev. Briest officiating. They farmed in the Freeman area and lived there until 2001, when her husband of 63 years passed away. She then moved to an apartment in Freeman where she lived for 10 years. In September 2011, she moved to the Salem Mennonite Home.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Menno. She taught Sunday School for many years.
She died Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Freeman Community Hospital. He attained the age of 97 years.
She is survived by her two sons, Edwin Sedlezky Jr., Custer, and Dale (Deb) Sedlezky, Freeman; two daughters, Karen (Loren) Fossum, Sioux Falls, and Donna (Larry) Stern, Freeman; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her parents; one brother, Oscar Friedrich; and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Sedlezky.
