Clement Tucker
January 16, 1923 - September 24, 2012
Clement was born Jan. 16, 1923 in the church parsonage located in Lynd Township, Lyon County, Mn. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. Clement worked at Sioux Tire & Battery for a few years the then enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He served as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class in the Coast Guard during WWII.
Clement married Ruth Feldman Nov. 19, 1950 in Luverne, Mn. He worked for Iseman Homes for a number of years as a deliver driver. He then owned and operated Standard Gas stations in Sioux Falls. When he sold the gas stations, Clement work with his brother and sister-in-law at Sioux Falls Towel and Linen. In the later years, he was a computer analyst for Volunteers of America.
He enjoyed reading, camping and fishing. He was very interested in computers and built his own PC long before they became readily available in the consumer market.
Survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Betty (Glen) Vant, Canton, SD, son-in-law, Todd Schmidt (Maggie); three grandchildren, Eva Schmidt, Jasmin Vant and Tom Vant. He is preceded in death by his parents, four children, Dawn, Valerie, Tom and an infant son; and four siblings, Paul, Mike, Billy and Velma.
Lester Verley
October 22, 1914 - October 6, 2012
Lester Ephron Verley passed away October 6, 2012 at the Avera McKennan Hospital after suffering a stroke. He would have been 98 years old on October 22.
Lester was born October 22, 1914 at Hooker, South Dakota, one of six children born to Myron and Katie (Lodde) Verley. The family moved to Hurley where Lester graduated from high school in 1933. He married Antoinette M. Bruflat of Centerville in 1938 and they had three children, Marguerite, Gerald and Darryl.
Lester held various jobs during the Depression including working for the WPA where he was paid $300 a year.
In 1941, he was recruited for a special course at SDSU where learned math skills that were necessary for fine calibration of machinery used in aircraft wing manufacturing. Lester was detailed to work at the GoodYear Aircraft Company in Akron, OH and classified as a skilled person necessary for the war effort.
At the end of 1945, the family moved back to South Dakota. The Bank of Hurley kindly lent Lester the money to buy drilling equipment and set up Verley Well Drilling at Centerville. He and Toni raised their family in Centerville and were active members of the community and Mother of Mercey/Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Lester served as Mayor of Centerville for six years, a volunteer fireman, Treasurer of the Centerville Baseball Team, President and Treasurer of the Turkey Creek Gun Club, and President of the Swan Lake Improvement Assoc. He was a Grand Knight of the Knight of Columbus and a member of the Odd Fellows prior to moving to Sioux Falls in 1996. He filled his time volunteering at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. He considered this his last career and loved being helpful as a part of the Avera community. He accumulated over 9000 hours of volunteer work and achieved several awards. He said he met so many interesting South Dakotans from all over the state.
Lester is survived by his children, Marguerite “Peg” Bailey and Darryl (Jeanne) Verley; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Toni, in 1984, his son, Dr. Gerald M. Verley in 1996, and four siblings, Alfred, Clarence, Gladys Kroger and Florence Buskohl.
Cathy Barck
October 31, 1956 - October 12, 2012
Cathy was born with Down Syndrome to Alvin and Corice (Hovland) Barck on October 31, 1956.
She attended Hope School in Sioux Falls in 1965. She was admitted to Redfield State Hospital from 1966- 1980. In November of 1980, she enrolled at Sioux Vocational Services.
In her early years, Cathy liked to go shopping, out to eat and camping. She was good at making latch hook rugs and gave many to family and friends. She enjoyed going for rides and going over to Dallas and Linda’s house for holidays and family gatherings. She loved her nieces and nephews and the great nieces and nephews, too! She especially liked her birthday (Halloween) which meant a pizza party and brown (chocolate) cake.
The family is so appreciative of Achieve for taking such great care of Cathy for all of these years. She was happy and comfortable.
She is survived by her sister, Bea (Mike) Baumberger, her brother, Dallas (Linda) and her twin brother, Carl; nieces, nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. Her parents preceded her in death.
Pauline Summy
May 3, 1927 - October 21, 2012
Pauline was born May 3, 1927, in Spencer, South Dakota, to Maurice and Ella McManus. She passed away Sunday at her daughter’s home in Lennox after a short battle with cancer. Shortly after graduating from Spencer High School in 1946, she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked for Manchester Biscuit Company. She met her husband, Dale Summy, at a dance at the Arkota Ballroom. Pauline and Dale were married on October 21, 1950. She passed away on what would have been their 62nd anniversary. In 1954 they moved to Red Bluff, California, before permanently settling in Sioux Falls in 1956. She began working at Sioux Valley Hospital in 1964 and retired as a Food Service Supervisor after 29 years. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, bowling, playing cards, stock car racing, and bingo. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She always looked forward to her lunches with the Red Hat Ladies and riding with her friends to the casino on Sunset Shuttle. She and her husband also enjoyed seeing the country while visiting their daughter’s family at their many stations in the Coast Guard.
Her family and friends successfully surprised Pauline with an 85th birthday party in May 2012. She was very happy to have all of the people most important in her life to be with her that day.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Pam (Dave) Van Middendorp, of Lennox, SD, her three grandchildren, Casey (Jon) Gesling of Lennox, John Van Middendorp of Sioux Falls, Jesse (Aaron) Christensen of Lennox, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale W. Summy, her parents, one sister, and two brothers.
Cyril Tebben
October 20, 1922 - October 25, 2012
Cyril was born October 20, 1922 near Alvord, Iowa, the son of August and Anna (Mackel) Tebben. His family moved to a farm in Springdale Township in 1930. Cyril attended Simmons Country School. He married Phyllis Poppenga on December 11, 1945 in Sioux Falls. They farmed in the Harrisburg, Tea and Lennox areas for many years. Cyril married Ruby Niewald on August 25, 1978.
Cyril worked with his brother, Francis, operating Tebben Spray Service. He later worked at Messenger Tire Company and Edwards Brake and Alignment before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching Western movies. In retirement, he wintered in Florida for several years. Cyril was always happy to help Duane and Lynn Johnson with field work.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; five children, Gloria Hutson, Sioux Falls, Charles Tebben, Sioux Falls, Steve (Mary) Tebben, Whitewood, SD, Mary (Roger) Bly, Sioux Falls, Michael Tebben, Sioux Falls; 19 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Francis Tebben, Harrisburg. He is preceded in death by his parents; three children, Linda, Brian and Larry; and siblings, Roy, Isadore, Sylvester and Florence.
Richard Rice
February 29, 1956 - December 2, 2012
Having blessed the earth with his presence, Richard Gordon Rice, 56, of rural Lennox, born February 29, 1956, from the union of Verlyn and Betty Rice, died Sunday December 2, 2012 at his home. An Air Force veteran, Rich was proud of his country and his current service working for the Internal Revenue Service.
Rich is survived by his wife of 30 years, Fran, and his son, Ross; his mother, Betty, Rapid City; sisters, Janet (Gerald) Sorenson, Canton; Cindy Thum and special friend, Bill Porter, Arizona; brother, Ralph Rice, Rapid City; special cousin, David (Sharyl) Rice, Harrisburg; special friends, Sharla (Larry) Janssen, Tom (Katie) Lukes, Don, Jim K., Bill, Jim D., Gary &Ginger; Uncles Wayne (Marianne)Rice; Dwayne (Sylvia) Olson; Ron Olson; Craig Olson and Aunt Virginia; several nieces, nephews, and cousins and numerous friends from high school, college and his fraternity brotherhood, SDSU’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Verlyn Rice, and many other relatives and dear friends.
Rich graduated in 1974 from Harrisburg High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. His service to our country at Offutt Air Force Base was significant to his life. After completing his tour of duty, he attended South Dakota State University and graduated in 1982 from Augustana College. He married Frances Rice in 1982 and began his career. In 1992, his son, Ross, was born and gave him such joy to watch grow into a young man and be with.
Rich had many passions including being a 20 year member of the DTGCA. Rich cherished hunting with his son and his buddies from all over the state. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at South Dakota State University and enjoyed Saturday’s Jacks game with the clients at the Volunteers of America, Dakotas Third Street location. Rich was a giving, caring man, who loved his time with his extended family, the clients at the Volunteers of America, Dakota Sioux Falls especially the locations of Silver Valley and Third Street.
Rich worked for many years with Specialized Card Services before they became Household Credit. Since staying with his position would have moved him from his home of South Dakota, he pursued other jobs in computer science, customer service and the pawn industry. At the time of his death, Rich was employed by the U.S. Department of Treasury at the Sioux Falls Internal Revenue Service office offering helpful assistance to stressed tax payers and truck licensees. A job he truly loved.
To complete their honor of Rich’s life, his family will have a private ceremony at a future date at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Dale Wooledge
October 31, 1924 - December 12, 2012
Dale was born on October 31, 1924 at Bijou Hills, South Dakota to Desmond Denver and Amy Olive (Burger) Wooledge. At the age of six they moved to a ranch near Gann Valley, South Dakota. There he grew up attending school and working with his father.
He enlisted in the Army in July of 1944. Following basic training he was sent to Germany where he served in the 2nd Armored Division and 82nd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion-Company D driving a light tank. He attained the rank of Sargeant. He was among the first occupation troops in Berlin after the WW2 ended. He was discharged in June of 1946. During his service he received a Bronze Star for Combat Infantry.
With the help of the GI bill Dale attended South Dakota State College graduating in 1950 with a BS in Journalism. He became a reporter for the Gregory Times Advocate and later for the DeSmet News. Both are well known weekly newspapers in South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Avis Elaine Kor in 1949.
Dale began his teaching career at Gann Valley High School in 1954. He received a degree of Masters in Education from Northern State College in 1961. He and his family moved to Bowdle, South Dakota where he served as the high school principal for six years. They then moved to Inwood, Iowa where he served as the high school guidance counselor at West Lyon School.
During his career in education he co-authored a Conservation Handbook for secondary science teachers in South Dakota and wrote a number of articles which were printed in professional journals. He was a member of S.D Education Assn., Iowa State Education Assn., West Lyon Education Assn., National Education Assn., Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa, National Personnel and Guidance Assn., N.W. Iowa Personnel and Guidance Assn. and Iowa Association of College Admissions Counselors.
He was a faithful member of the Sioux Falls Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as an elder for thirty years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Avis, sons: Warren (Ann) and Bryce (Susan) Wooledge, daughters: Lesli (Robert) Brauer, Marcy (John) Nickless, Nyla (Stan) Shireman, Tracy Scranton and twenty grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Myrna Elaine Wooledge and his parents.
Donald Reents
November 13, 1922 - December 13, 2012
Don Reents was born November 13, 1922 at Clara City, Mn, the son of John and Hazel Reents. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. Don served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War.
Don married Arlene Nelson in 1948 and they had three children. Don worked at John Morrell Company for over 30 years. Don married Rachel Warren in 1969. He enjoyed working in his garage on metal and wood projects. He was a member of the VFW Post in Sioux Falls. Don was a resident at Covington Heights Nursing Home when he passed away Thursday.
He is survived by his children, Douglas Reents, David Reents and Donna Gillette, all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two siblings, Dennis Reents and Stella Cooksley.
Eunice Crittensen
March 24, 1927 - December 26, 2012
Eunice “Eunie” Crittenden passed away at Sanford Hospital on December 26, 2012 at the age of 85.
She was born Eunice Rena Kroeger in Hartford, SD March 24, 1927 and lived on the family farm until June 1, 1948 when she married Floyd “Bud” Crittenden. Eunie loved children, crocheting and dancing. She did daycare from the early 1970’s until around the year 2000.
Eunie is survived by her two sons, Larry and Gary (Libby); 3 grandchildren, Katie (Justin) Zacharias, Cassi Crittenden, and Cole (Leilani) Crittenden; and 4 great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Logan Zacharias and Braedon and Owenn Crittenden. She is also survived by a sister, Gladys Rehder and two brothers, Marvin and Ernest Kroeger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Bud” Crittenden, siblings Edna Shumaker, Eldon Kroeger, Art Kroeger, Lawrence Kroeger, Clara Hoeck and a son Ronald.
Victor Mortenson
August 23, 1929 - January 6, 2013
Victor was born August 23, 1929 to Victor and Edith (Nelson) Mortenson at Estherville, Iowa. He graduated from Estherville High in 1948.
He joined the National Guard in 1951 and served until 1953. He served in Bat. C 194th Field Artillery during the Korean Conflict. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College and graduated in 1957. Victor began his work with the IRS in South Dakota in 1957. Victor married Ann Marlene Hove on February 14, 1959 and they resided in Pierre until 1965 when they moved to Sioux Falls. Victor worked as a revenue officer until his retirement in 1985.
Victor was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening, walking outside and visiting friends in the hospital.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Ann; son, Mark; a grandson , Ashley Mortenson (Samantha Parker) , Ottumwa, IA; great granddaughter, Avenley; a sister, Dorothy Bringle, Sacramento, CA; daughter- in- law, Pam Mortenson; and nieces, Laurie Ward, Karen Wills, Rainy Bassano, Robbyn Bringle-West, and Bunny Palligrini.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wayne; sisters, Alvera and Lorraine; brothers, Kenneth and Kermit; brother- in-law, Raymond Bringle; nephew, Erik Mortenson and great nephew, James Wills.
LeMoyne Martell
January 10, 1932 - January 19, 2013
LeMoyne Lloyd Martell was born January 10, 1932 in Yankton SD to parents Alexander Paul Martell and Anna (Kruger) Martell. He lived in Menno, SD until 4th grade then Parker, SD. He graduated from Parker High School in 1950.
LeMoyne married Marcene Vietor August 20, 1950. They raised 3 children Leno, Monte, and Jeannie. Marcene died in 1987. LeMoyne married Judy Wellnitz May 25, 1988. They have lived in Big Stone City since 1995.
LeMoyne worked at John Morrell and Company for 35 years until his retirement in 1985.
LeMoyne was an avid fisherman and hunter until health problems prevented him. He also enjoyed gardening, watching sports and his little dog Maddie.
LeMoyne is survived by his wife, Judy; son Monte (Shirley); daughter, Jeannie (Greg) Ammon; step daughters Cathy Pond and Konni Tunney; brother Lewis, 11 grand children and a host of relatives and friends.
LeMoyne was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marcene, his son, Leno, 3 sisters, Ramona, Agnes, and Ellen, and his grandson Wyatt Ammon.
Gary Dean Loos
June 24, 1942 - January 20, 2013
Gary Dean Loos was born June 24, 1942 to Joseph and Margaret (Huck) Loos at Buffalo Center, Iowa. Gary graduated from high school.
He loved to laugh and was a very happy and giving person. He collected coins and was interested in gold and silver pricing. His passion was doing sweepstakes, which he won a lot and walking up to 8 miles a day.
Gary worked 37 years with the airlines, 17 years in Sioux Falls and the last 20 years in Florida. He worked for North Central, Republic and Northwest Airlines.
Gary was 70 when he passed away on January 20, 2013 at Canton, South Dakota

Arnold Anderson
June 9, 1930 - February 25, 2013
Arnold Marvin Anderson was born June 9, 1930 to August L. Anderson and Olga M. (Styke) Anderson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Andy lived in Rowena, South Dakota during his younger years, a farm near Canton, South Dakota and eventually moved with his parents to Sioux Falls. He had many fond memories of time spent with his Grandpa Styke on the family homestead in Inwood, Iowa. He and Iona McConniel were joined in matrimony for 47 years after which they remained bonded by an unexplainable love and caring for each other.
Andy’s early career was spent working for Gamble Robinson, Schoeneman’s Lumber Company and the Sioux Falls Stockyards to support his growing family. In 1973 he transitioned to the Sioux Falls School District where he worked as a custodian at Washington High School for twenty years. He treasured his years at Washington High School doing all he could to help the students and staff whenever he could.
Much of his retirement was spent enjoying the lifelong hobbies he was well known for – tinkering around the house, fixing lawnmowers and repairing cars. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix when he put his mind to it. Throughout the years he made numerous trips to Texas to visit five of his children and their families who lived there. Always willing to help, he assisted in many renovation and building projects, including the construction of a three-car garage for one of his daughters.
He is survived by five children, Iola Murray and husband Jon of Maypearl, Texas, Danny Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Virgil Anderson and wife Jane of Italy, Texas, Kevin Anderson and wife Elley of Midlothian, Texas, Lynnette Gutierrez and husband “Pete” Rudd of Midlothian, Texas, 17 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, numerous step Grandchildren and step Great Grand Children; his lifelong playmate and cousin, Duane Gustafson with his treasured wife, Dixie. He was preceded in death by his parents, August Anderson and Olga (Styke) Anderson both of Sioux Falls and a daughter, Lorrie Hanson of Midlothian, Texas.
Iona Anderson
December 19, 1930 - February 26, 2013
Iona May (McConniel) Anderson was born December 19, 1930 to Owen McConniel and Esther (Kanne) McConniel. She was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up in rural communities in and around Canton, South Dakota until she left school moving to Sioux Falls to work and help support her family. She met and married Arnold Anderson and they were joined in matrimony for 47 years after which they remained bonded by an unexplainable love and attachment to each other.
She devoted much of her life to caring for her family--constantly on the lookout for bargains so she could share with her children. Often times making trips to Texas in order to deliver these goods to whomever needed them most. Coming from humble beginnings, her sights were always set on making sure she saved for the leaner times, from baking bread to growing her own vegetables and canning them to use during the winter months. Her work at home was to make sure everyone had clean clothes, nutritious meals and guidance whenever they needed it—both spiritual and civic. With constant toil and unwavering spirit, she made her house a home for everyone she loved.
If she could lend a hand to someone in need, she’d gladly do it without hesitation and never expect anything in return. She had a very caring spiritual family and enjoyed treating them as her extended family, always willing to give of herself in any way she could. Aside from her duties at home, she worked as a cook at the airport in her early years and she also provided cleaning services to help make ends meet. Taking care of others in one way or another was something she did up until the very end of her life.
She is survived by five children, Iola Murray and husband Jon of Maypearl, Texas, Danny Anderson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Virgil Anderson and wife Jane of Italy, Texas, Kevin Anderson and wife Elley of Midlothian, Texas, Lynnette Gutierrez and husband “Pete” Rudd of Midlothian, Texas, 17 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren, numerous step Grandchildren and step Great Grand Children; her sister Bonnie Cornelius and husband Kenneth of Texarkana, Texas and a sister-in-law Karen McConniel of Taneyville, Missouri, an Aunt as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen McConniel and Esther (Kanne) McConniel both of Sioux Falls; a brother, Orin McConniel of Taneyville, Missouri and a daughter, Lorrie Hanson of Midlothian.
Delila Goodroad
October 14, 1927 - February 5, 2013
Delila Goodroad passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home on North Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, on Feb. 5, 2013
Delila Maxine Boettcher, daughter of Mary (Dixon) Boettcher and George Boettcher, was born October 14, 1927 in Lyman, South Dakota. She attended country grade school there until 1941. Then moved with her family to Bruce, South Dakota. Where she finished grade school and graduated from Bruce High School in 1946.
She married Duane Goodroad on December 3, 1946. They lived for a short time in Brookings, SD. Then moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1951, where she worked as a bookkeeper for several years. She also enjoyed working on ceramics and crafts. She was a loving grandmother
She was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church and VFW Post No. 628 Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Jerry and his wife, Cathy, from New River, AZ, and her daughter, Sherry, and her husband, Marlin Beers, from Lake Wilson, MN, three grandchildren Shannan, Jennifer and Jeffrey, six great-grandchildren, Brittani, Tommee Sue, and Cole, Ellie, Anna, Adriana, and also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Goodroad, her parents, George and Mary Boettcher, two sisters, Mary Jane Moke and June Albers; and four brothers, Lloyd, Gaylord, Arnold, and Donald Boettcher.
Gertrude Rosenquist
April 13, 1929 - April 13, 2013
Gertrude was born April 13, 1929 in Canistota, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Amelia (Harms) Borman. She grew up in Canistota and graduated from high school.
Gertrude married Paul Rosenquist on September 26, 1948 in Canistota. They farmed for five years before moving to Sioux Falls in 1953. Along with raising her family, Gertrude worked as a cook at McKennan Hospital for over ten years.
Gertrude and her husband, Paul were members of Faith Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed Yahtzee, Canasta ,puzzles, cross stitching and baking in her free time.
Grateful for sharing in her life are her children, Robert Rosenquist Sr. and his wife, Damaris, Lee Rosenquist and Jeanine May; 11 grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Michael, Jodi, Melissa, Guy, Joshua, Troy, Jacob, Bradley, Angela and Carla; 17 great grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashlyn, Angelica, Devin, Cameron, Daniel, Kamryn, Gavin, Grace, Jacob Jr., Ryley , Parker, Morgan, Isaac, Jocelyn , Alexander and Sylvia.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a granddaughter, Jessica Rosenquist; an infant sibling; two brothers, Bill and Fred; three sisters, Bertha Arends, Emma Engel and Edna Shelter; and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Rosenquist.
Rodney Christensen
April 30, 1955 - April 14, 2013
Rodney Wayne Christensen died April 14th from a year- long battle with cancer.
Rodney was born April 30, 1955.
Rodney worked for several concrete companies throughout his life. Rod was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper. He loved the outdoors.
Rod was preceded in death by his brother, Guy and his father, Chris (Norman). He will be truly missed by many.
Grateful to have shared his life is his mother, Dorothy; four sisters, Linda Christensen, Cindy (Sid) Warwick, Peggy (Jon) Kruckenberg and Susie (Jay) West; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
Dennis Carlson
November 22, 1926 - April 20, 2013
Dennis C. Carlson 86, of Sioux Falls died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center .
Dennis was born November 22, 1926 to Ingrid (Anderson) and Jonas Carlson. He lived in Sioux Falls and as a child attended the Hollister School. He was a member of East Side Lutheran Church.
He worked with his brother as a painter and assisted in carpentry work until his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
LaVerne "Lefty" Aulner
September 23, 1926 - April 24, 2013
LaVerne Charles Aulner was born Sept 23, 1926 in Farmer, South Dakota. He moved to White, SD when he was around six years old. He played football and baseball. LaVerne also joined the boxing team, earning not only his Golden Gloves, but his nick name "Lefty". He was in band, Glee and the art director of his class year book and voted most handsome in his class. He graduated and joined the Air Force at age 17 serving in the South Pacific Theatre. He served honorably as a Flight Engineer until the end of WWll.
After his discharge from the Air Force, LaVerne worked on the construction of steel grain dryers. He then started his own construction company.
He met Violet Ann Weintjes in Sioux Falls, SD and they were married in a simple ceremony. “Lefty”, as he was known, went back into the service as a Flight Engineer in the Air National Guard in Sioux Falls SD. Soon three girls were born, Candis, Sandra and Pamela. The family moved to a new house on West 41st and was joined by a son, named Timothy. They lived there until the kids moved out and started their own lives.
Lefty and Carney then sold the house and moved to Renner SD. In 1984, the Lord took his brown eyed beauty from his life. He continued to live in Renner until he married his second love, Beatrice. They traveled to Wasillia, Alaska and fell in love with the state. They returned to South Dakota, sold the house and moved to Wasillia. The couple enjoyed each other’s company and the Alaskan life until Beatrice was taken from him. Lefty continued to enjoy Alaska until his health had deteriorated and he passed away on April 24, 2013.
Lefty had enjoyed a full life of happiness, love, his love of the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, fixing things, working with his hands. His love of family lives on and he will be missed.
He is survived by three daughters, Candi Patch of Wasilla AK, Sandra Mamey of Lake Havasu, AZ, Pamela Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD and one son, Timothy Aulner Bellevue NE; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister, Betty Weber. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives, and four siblings.
Charles Collins
June 24, 1935 - May 4, 2013
Charles was born June 24, 1935 at Egan, SD, the son of Ira and Clista (Calhoun) Collins.
He served in the Army from 1952-1955. Charles was a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and had over 300 jumps.
He married Patricia Collins in 1956. She died in 1994. Charles was a truck driver for many years.
He is survived by his cousin, Paula Haight of Sioux Falls. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Ed.
Private services were held with interment at Hillside Cemetery at Egan, SD
