Pamela Collison

Sioux Falls, Pamela Lea Collison, 46 died on Sunday, September 28, 2003. Pamela Lea Hutchinson was born on July 8, 1957 to James R. and Virginia (Varnell) Hutchinson in Kingman, KS. Pam received her grade school education in Augusta, KS, she then moved with her family to Dubuque, IA and graduated from high school in Minneapolis, KS.
Following her high school graduation she attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS graduating in 1979 with a BS degree in Business Administration. In 1980, she was one of the first staff members at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, KS, serving as Activities Director. Pam was united in marriage with Mark Collison in Salina, KS on May 24, 1981. They moved to Hutchinson, KS and worked at Wiley’s Department Store. In 1984 they moved to Kansas City, MO, and she worked as the Sales Manager at Macy’s and Dillard’s Department Stores.
In 1987, Pam and Mark moved to Sioux Falls and Pam stayed at home to raise their three children. She was an active member at Lincoln Hills Bible Church involved in the Christian Education Community, Benevolence, various women’s groups and Children’s Ministries. Pam was a leader in the Children’s AWANA Program for many years. She was active with CEF (Children’s Evangelism Fellowship), BSF (Bible Study Fellowship), and was a volunteer at the Christian Center School, helping with fund raising, in the Library and on school field trips. Pam was also part of MOMS in touch prayer group. Amongst other hobbies, Pam enjoyed working on crafts, including stamping and cross-stitch work.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Mark, Sioux Falls; children, Josh, Missy and Micah, all of Sioux Falls; father, James R. (Cathy) Hutchinson, Rapid City, SD; brothers, Ray Hutchinson, Dubuque, IA, John (Kathy Platoni) Hutchinson, Beaver Creek, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her mother, Virginia, preceded her in death.
Theresa Atwood
Died: Sep 29, 2003
Theresa was born May 15, 1950 in Sioux Falls. She grew up in Sioux Falls where she graduated from O’Gorman High School. Following high school, she was employed at EROS Data Center, the Good Samaritan Society, and as an events coordinator with Hy Vee Food stores. She was a full time grandmother at the time of her death.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Tameria Atwood of Sioux Falls, SD; an honorary daughter, Christine Murphy, of Milwaukee, WI; one granddaughter, Satara Atwood of Sioux Falls; an honorary granddaughter, Lexi Nomikos of Milwaukee, WI; her father, Elver Atwood of Sioux Falls; her mother, Donna Grover and her husband Ken, of Harlingen, TX; two brothers, Rick Atwood of Sioux Falls and Mike Atwood and his wife, Brenda, of Sioux Falls; and her step brother, Ron Grover, of Denver, CO.
She was preceded in death by her step sister, Patty Grover.
Dorothy Weir
Died: Sep 29, 2003
Dorothy Weir was born January 31, 1927, at Sioux City, Iowa, to George and Ella Ann (Groepper) Shreve. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1937, and was a midterm graduate of Washington High School. Dorothy attended Augustana College and then worked for Union Savings Bank for a number of years. She then worked for the City of Sioux Falls as secretary to Mayor Fay Wheeldon.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Dale Weir on May 19, 1956, at Beaver Creek, Minnesota. In 1960, she began working with her husband as office manager at Daniel’s Olsen. Dorothy was a sharp businesswoman and thoroughly enjoyed working. She enjoyed the day-to-day operations of the business as well as visiting with all her customers. A co-owner of the firm, she retired from her position in 2000.
In her free time she enjoyed collecting jewelry. Dorothy had a number of passions in her life including the Sioux Falls Humane Society and helping children through various Shrine organizations. Over a decade ago, Dale and Dorothy purchased a spot of land on Minnesota Avenue for the sole purpose of lighting the tree at Christmastime for all the people of Sioux Falls to enjoy.
A woman of high morals, Dorothy’s dedication and solid work ethic as well as her personal honesty will be forever missed.

Ole Garvick
Died: Nov 4, 2003
Ole Garvick was born September 7, 1915 to Peder Olson Garvick and Raynhild (Hammersness) Garvick at Colton, SD. He grew up in the Colton area, receiving his education in a local country school. He entered military service on December 7, 1941 and served in the Army during World War II. Ole received his honorable discharge on July 19, 1945.
He married Rhoda Husom in Long Prairie, MN. He worked for John Morrell & Co in Sioux Falls before enrolling in the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to learn mechanics.
Ole later married Dorothy Lynch in 1951 in California. A resident of Sioux Falls since 1939, Ole owned and operated Garvicks Garage in Sioux Falls for 25 years. He retired in 1976. His wife, Dorothy preceded him in death on November 11, 1974.
On September 12, 1975, he married Margaret Barnes in Sioux Falls. Ole was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, the Horseless Carriage Club, the VFW and the DAV. For hobbies, Ole enjoyed restoring and repairing antique cars. Margaret preceded him in death on December 11, 1994.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Sandra Dwyer of Sioux Falls; 3 grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, and Kathleen; and 2 great grandchildren, Alexis and Johnessa.

Rose A. Reynolds

Rose Reynolds
Rose Reynolds, 71, of 2704 S. Garfield Avenue, entered
eternal life on Friday, November 7, 2003. She died
peacefully at home after a long struggle to recover
from surgery this past summer.
Rose Angela Caliendo was born on December 14, 1931, in
Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Carmine and Concetta
(Narzisi) Caliendo. She was educated in Omaha and
graduated from Central High School there. On February
20, 1954, she was united in holy matrimony with W.J.
"Bill" Reynolds in Omaha, where the couple made their
home until 1966, when they moved to Sioux Falls, South
Dakota.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Rose in her
younger years enjoyed bowling and needlework; in later
years she played bridge and mah-jongg; she was always
an avid reader. In Omaha she was employed at Ringwalt
Insurance; in Sioux Falls she worked at Larsen Designs
and the U.S. Department of Agriculture National
Agricultural Statistics Service. She was for many
years a Eucharistic Minister at Christ the King
Catholic Church.
Preceding Rose in death were her parents; three
brothers: Anthony Caliendo, Tom Bosco, and Sam Bosco;
and one sister, Tina Perretta. She is survived by her
loving family: her husband, Bill; sons and
daughters-in-law Bill and Peggy, Sioux Falls, and
Michael and Kim, Rapid City; grandchildren Meredith,
Allison, Alex, and Will; brother and sister-in-law
Martin and Josephine Caliendo, Omaha; sister Joan
Caliendo, San Francisco; and several nieces and
nephews.

Libby Rogers
Died: Nov 7, 2003
Mary Elizabeth Stephenson Rogers was born in Salem, Ohio on July 10, 1918 to James Byers and Edna Bush Stephenson. Libby grew up in Pittsburgh, the second of three girls. While a coed at the University of Wisconsin, a certain Dude Rogers spotted and pursued Libby. They were married in 1939. Back to Madison for Dude to finish school, then Army duty in California and Arizona.
They settled in Sioux Falls after the war where they shared a wonderful life. Dude went about the business of dairy with his parents Ester and Ralph Rogers Sr. Libby also flourished. Her tender love and fierce devotion to Dude and daughter Jan was the focus of her generous spirit. Her talents and interests were legion. She had a wonderful artist’s eye and hand. Every challenge was met with grit and grace, from biking against the wind up Minnesota Avenue hill to the most miles ever in the YWCA Pool.
Libby loved to serve and accomplish. She had been a trustee and on the session of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, was YWCA President, Red Cross Board Secretary, Children’s Home Society Board, President of her PEO Chapter, state tennis champion, South Dakota Tennis Hall of Fame member, Mrs. South Dakota in 1958, and national Singer sewing champion.
Libby cultivated and tended both her friendships and her garden with great care. Her winter home on Sanibel was a warm and welcoming haven where she especially enjoyed being Gaby to her dear, darling grandsons, Trueheart and Stephenson. Libby’s sister, Florence, and her family also enjoyed those same warm beaches.
Throughout Libby’s life, the thread of her Christian faith was strong, but in her later years, her devotion and rededication to Christ gave her boundless comfort and purpose.
Libby was a gallant, lovely and sincere woman. She fought to stay with us, but is grateful to be home. A service of thanksgiving for Libby’s life will be Wednesday at 11:30 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2300 South West Avenue. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Please no flowers or black dresses, and only bright ties. Memorials in Libby’s name may be directed to Hospice or the Humane Society.
Ann Wagner
Died: Nov 6, 2003
Ann Adell Wagner was born on April 21, 1935 in Dell Rapids, SD. The first child of Joseph and Evelyn Jacobson, her childhood was also spent in Baltic and Sioux Falls along with her three brothers and two sisters. In October 1955, she married Ronald Wagner and began raising a family of her own. Her life in Sioux Falls was filled with the love of her five children, her three grandchildren, her family members, and her countless hometown friends and neighbors.
Ann was an integral and vital part of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Ann’s vivacity and quick sense of humor made her the immediate center of attention. A wonderful cook, a warm and inviting hostess, a consummate collector, a traveler, and a hard worker, Ann was an incredible force in this world. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all.
Blessed in having shared her life are her husband of 48 years, Ronald, of Sioux Falls; son, Terry, and wife Cyndee, of Sioux Falls; son, Jeff of Sioux Falls; daughter, Jodi Nord, and husband, Tom, of Sioux Falls; daughter, Julie, and partner, Al, of Sioux Falls; daughter, Tonya, and her children, Cierra, Keshaun, and Darrin, of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Ivan and David Jacobson of Sioux Falls; sister Janet (Merwyn) Crist, Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Valorie Jacobson (Ronald) of Sioux Falls; nephews Brad Jacobson of Saint Paul, MN; Matthew Jacobson (Amy) of Sioux Falls; Brett Crist (Mary) of Wichita, KS; and numerous friends.
Ann is preceded in death by her father, Joseph, her mother, Evelyn, her sister, Darlene, and her brother Ronald.

O. Lee Moore
Died: Nov 9, 2003
O. Lee Moore was born to Mildred and Alex Moore in Camp Hill, AL on October 9, 1928. A graduate of Camp Hill High School, he also graduated from Auburn University in 1955.
Lee entered the Air Force in 1948 and was discharged in 1952. On November 26, 1955, Lee married Shirley LaFollette. Lee worked for Weatherwax 34 years and then Hy-Vee since 1989 until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his children, David of Sumner, WA, Jeff of Sioux Falls and Melody of Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Morgan, Brittany and Nathan; twin brother, James O. Moore and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial may be made to First Christian Church.

Allen Tomnitz
Died: Nov 9, 2003
Allen Charles Tomnitz, Al was born on July 22, 1921 in Great Bend, Kansas where he graduated from High School in 1940. In Feb. 1941, Al graduated from Hemphill Diesel Schools in Los Angeles, CA. This was the beginning of a lifetime of being a meticulous craftsman.
Al served in the United States Army as an Instrument Repairman until Nov. of 1945, at which time he received an honorable discharge. He moved to Sioux Falls, farming east of the city. While farming, Al became interested in flying and eventually left the farm to fly for Foss Flying Service, Wilson Trucking, Raven Industries, All American Transport, and Lewis Industries.
Upon retiring, Al turned a part time hobby of trapshooting into a full time endeavor. In 1988, Al was inducted into the S.D. Trapshooting Hall of Fame. In 2002, he was inducted into the National ATA Hall of Fame. Al is scheduled to be inducted into the SD Sportsman’s Hall of Fame in April 2004.
In addition to his flying and trapshooting achievements, Al was active in the Elks, the Shrine and the Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death where his parents, Charles and Elsie Tomnitz, and a sister, Lucille Tomnitz Bacon.
Grateful for having shared his life are a sister, Mable Page of Mesa AZ; two nephews, Perry (Sally Ann) Page of Marina Del Rey, CA, Peter (Sonya) Page of St. Charles, MO; great niece, Catlin; and a great nephew, Derek. Honored to have shared his life are hundreds who are proud to call him their friend and mentor.

Lena G. Van Steenwyk
Died: Nov 9, 2003
Lena Ten Cate was born in Leota, MN November 29, 1900 to Herman and Sarah (Maris) Ten Cate, Dutch immigrants. She grew up on farms near Edgerton, MN with her three sisters and two brothers. Her childhood was cut short when at eleven years of age she lost her mother. She assumed much responsibility for her siblings. As a pre-teen, she learned to sew and drive a car. Lena talked about ordering clothes for the whole family from the Sears catalog.
On June 1, 1923 Lena married William Van Steenwyk. They moved to Sioux Falls. Here their two children, Darwin and Joyce were born. Lena was active in the East Side Presbyterian Church. She was an expert seamstress and made clothes for her family and many other people as well. When her husband Bill died in 1986 she moved to Minneapolis where she lived with her sister, Betty. Her health deteriorated after injuring her hip, she had to use a wheel chair. This necessitated the move to the Nile Health Care Center in 1990 where she lived until her death November 9, 2003.
Lena leaves behind her daughter, Joyce (Dick) Johnson of Mpls, MN, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, Darwin’s wife,Elaine, sister, Betty, and many nieces and nephews.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, Darwin, two brothers, Peter and John, and two sisters, Carrie and Jo.
Lena is remembered fondly for arranging picnics for neighborhood kids to celebrate Darwin and Joyce’s September birthdays, for taking suppers to some elderly neighbors and for lending a helping hand to anyone needing a lift. Also for her hymn singing, she loved to sing in church, but always sang the melody an octave too low.
Lena lived a good life in spite of many bouts with depression. At one time, she felt this coming on and called a cab and checked herself in at McKennan Hospital.
We will miss our visits to her at Providence Place, but are happy she is now at peace with Darwin and Bill.

Richard Getzin
Died: Nov 11, 2003
Richard Lynn Getzin was born in Humboldt, SD on November 8, 1932 to Frank and Grace (Stephens) Getzin. He received his education at Humboldt High School.
Richard served his Country during the Korean Conflict and received an honorable discharge. Following his service, Richard was united in marriage with Lila Perrett on April 12, 1953 in Hartford, SD. They lived in Baltic for 25 years, Hartford for four years and then in Sioux Falls. He started driving truck on July 10, 1958 for Wilson Truck and American Freight. He retired in August of 1988 and had 27 safe driving years logging over three million miles. In 1987, he won the South Dakota State Truck Rodeo Championship. Following his retirement from driving, he worked at Hander Plumbing and then at Haug Steel until 1994.
Richard was a member at Hartford United Methodist Church, the Teamsters, the American Legion in Hartford, and the American Rose Society. He enjoyed having a rose garden and would show his roses and shared them with many. He served on the Baltic Town Board, was Commander at the Hartford Legion Post, County Commander and District Adjacent for the American Legion.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 50 years, Lila Getzin, Sioux Falls; three children, Richard Dean (Lois) Getzin, Vermillion, SD, Charlotte (Terry) Hasvold, Baltic, SD, Alan Getzin, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Arleen Reuter and Rachel (Don) Reents, of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents two brothers, Ward and Lanny, and a sister, Janice Swenson, preceded Richard in death.
