Erica Lee Herberger was born
August 17, 1988, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Roger and Margaret (DeNoyer) Herberger. She was raised in Sioux Falls where she began her education at Franklin and Hawthorne Grade Schools. She attended Axtell Middle School and in the fall of 2002, began attending Sioux Falls Lincoln High School. Erica was looking forward to her sophomore year at Lincoln.
She loved being around people and spending time with her family and friends. A very happy person, Erica seemed to always have a smile on her face. She was very loving and was quick to give her relatives a hug and kiss when she saw them. Generous and helpful, she always made herself available to those around her. Her fun-loving and playful spirit will be long remembered and cherished.

Margaret Cooper

Sioux Falls ~ Margaret Jane Cooper, 80, died
July 20, 2003 at home. She was born
in Algona, Iowa; her family moved to Mason City, Iowa, in 1926 where Margaret lived for the next 20 years.
On March 7, 1943, she was married
to Maurice Cooper and moved to Sioux Falls several years later where she raised her family – Janey, Gregory, Mary Beth and Nancy. Margaret was an active of the First Baptist Church and in P.E.O. where she served as chaplain for many years.
Margaret was also a bookkeeper for Maurice in his business at Graphic Arts of South Dakota. Her greatest enjoyments in life were her family, her home and yard, her bridge group, P.E.O. and church.
Surviving relatives include her children: Janey (Tim) Johnson, Sioux Falls; Gregory Cooper, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Mary Beth Cooper, Georgetown, Delaware; Nancy Soccorso, West Palm Beach, Florida; her siblings: her twin sister, Mary Douglass, Hampton, Iowa; sister Beverly McClung, Edina, Minnesota; brother Dr. Paul Zeigler, San Diego, California; brother Dr. Myron Zeigler, Spirit Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Megan (Tom) Reidy, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Ryan Peterson, Sioux Falls; Lara Soccorso, West Palm Beach, Florida; Amy (Adam) Stockberger, Sioux Falls; Stacy Johnson, Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death
by her parents and husband Maurice.

Zalphia Mae Cain
Died: Jul 22, 2003
Zalphia was born
December 14, 1921 to Edward and Ruby (Masterson) Buttemeier in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated from Washington High School in 1941. Zalphia married
James Cain on November 29, 1947. She served with the United States Marine Corps Women’s Reservist during WWII and was employed by Culligan Water Conditioning of Sioux Falls for 22 years, retiring in 1988.
Zalphia was a member of the First United Methodist Church and PEO chapter I.
Zalphia is survived by her two sons, Douglas and his wife, Sheila, of Rapid City, SD and Richard and his wife, Carolyn, of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Amy, Amber and David; five great grandchildren, Kayla, Brady, Isabella, Paul and Kade.
Zalphia was preceded in death
by her husband, James, in 1983, sister, Donna, and brother, Maurice.

Tom Steineke
Died: Jul 27, 2003
Tom Richard Steineke was born
June 8, 1919, to Will and Mae (Wintersteen) Steineke, at Hartford, SD. He was raised in the area, and attended country schools.
Tom was united in marriage to Dorothy Archer on April 13, 1943. He was active in the US military at Okinawa, Japan during World War II, and after his discharge from service, continued farming in the Hartford area. Even after his retirement, he assisted his son, Bill, with his farming operation. Tom had farmed for over 54 years.
Tom had truly loved farming and being outdoors. He cherished his children and generations of grandchildren, and in his free-time, enjoyed playing cards with them and spending time with them. The strong and loving relationship shared between Tom and Dorothy deeply bonded the family and all of their many friends. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hartford, SD, board member of the Hartford Cemetery, and officer of the Crooks elevator. In later years, Tom and Dorothy enjoyed attending Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared his life are his, wife, Dorothy Steineke, Sioux Falls, SD; son, Bill Steineke and his wife, Kathy, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Pat Nytroe and her friend, Bernie Opland, Dell Rapids, SD; grandchildren, Tammy Ketcham, Tom, Todd and Jeff Nytroe, Cindy Hanisch, Ben, Nate and Joseph Steineke; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Howard Steineke and his wife, Dorothy, Canton, SD, and Charles Steineke and his wife, Eleanor, Sioux Falls, SD; and his sister, Betty Hanson, Sioux Falls, SD. Lillian Larson
Died: Jul 24, 2003
Lillian I. Anderson was born
March 7, 1915 to John and Anna (Anderson) Anderson in Brandon, SD. Lillian graduated from Sherman High School in Sherman, SD. Lillian married
Clifford H. Larson on August 12, 1933.
Lillian was a nurse at McKennan and Sioux Valley Hospitals where she worked in the newborn
nursery care area, which was her joy. She excelled at homemaking skills. She loved the Lord and her large family was very dear to her.
Lillian was preceded in death
by her husband, Clifford, in 1989, her parents, two brothers, two sisters and her granddaughter, Pamela.
Survivors include her three sons, Larry (Natalie) of Hobe Sound, FL, Lanny of Omaha, NE, and Lyle (Joanne) of Papillion, NE, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six sisters, one brother and many other relatives.
Memorials may be directed to Good Samaritan Luther Manor 2900 S. Lake Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.

Loyd Pritchard
Died: Jul 28, 2003
Lloyd “Wayne” Pritchard was born
August 17, 1918, in Garrison, IA, to Lloyd and Thura (Granger) Pritchard. Following high school, Wayne attended Iowa State University and the Brown Institute of Minneapolis, MN.
He entered the US Army in 1941 and served in combat during World War II. Following his military discharge in 1945, he lived in Sioux City and Spencer, IA, where he worked in radio.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Flynn in Sioux City, IA, on August 10, 1947. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where he continued in radio. His radio career in Sioux Falls started from ‘living’ and broadcasting from a Shriver’s Department Store window. He began his career with KSOO radio in the early 1950’s. Wayne quickly became a beloved radio personality in town. As the number one radio announcer with KSOO, he began the Wayne Pritchard Show. His morning show continued for over 40 years. Wayne introduced talk-radio to Sioux Falls. With his natural conversational style, Wayne’s wining format placed him right in the middle of the listener’s kitchens. Following his retirement from KSOO in 1993, he worked as a greeter at Lewis Drug Stores.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church; past member of the Lion’s Club and past president of the O’Gorman Booster Club. In addition to being a great friend to many, Wayne was a great father. He cherished attending his children’s activities. His great love for people and his kind spirit will be long treasured.

Brian Tebben
Died: Jul 28, 2003
Brian Keith Tebben, son of Cyril and Phyllis(Poppenga) Tebben, was born
October 23, 1957 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up and received his education in Sioux Falls. Brian served in the United States Marine Corps from 1974 until 1978.
On March 1, 1978 he was united in marriage to Cheryl House. Brian had been previously employed with Friessen Construction and was currently employed by Gil Haugan Construction.
Brian enjoyed spending all of his free time with his wife and son Adam. The family had a very special bond and enjoyed many activities together. Brian was very artistic and enjoyed working with his hands. He had a great love for nature and was always a “kid” at heart.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Cheryl; his son and best friend, Adam; his father, Cyril Tebben and his wife Ruby, Sioux Falls; seven sisters, Gloria Hutson, Linda Sletten, Mary Graves, Deb Hennig and her husband Mark, Patricia Swartz-McCarthy, all of Sioux Falls, Lisa Frisbee and her husband Lance, Harrisburg, SD, Vickie Elliott, Sioux Falls; three brothers, Chuck Tebben, Sioux Falls, Steve Tebben and his wife Mary, Harrisburg, SD, Mike Tebben, Sioux Falls; parents-in-law, Jackie House, Jim House and his wife Ann; brothers in-law, Steve House and his wife Becky, and Don House, all of Sioux Falls; a very special grandmother, Margaret House; 25 nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Harvey

Dorothy Illyne Lorenzen was born
to William and Gertrude Lorenzen on May 25, 1915. She lived most of her life in Sioux Falls. She married
Verne Harvey on May 23, 1934 in Canton, SD.
Always friendly, Dorothy was a person you could easily talk to, and who always had time to listen. As a homemaker and a mother, she devoted herself to her family her entire life.
Grateful for having shared her life are her surviving children and their families, Sherill (Richard) Kinsley, Denis “Bud” (Luisa) Harvey; three grandchildren, Brent C. Kinsley, Richard Allen Harvey and Christopher Brian Harvey; and four great grandchildren, Matthew Scott Kinsley, Alexis Ann Kinsley, Elizabeth Cecelia Harvey and Andrew Julian Heavey.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Verne; two sons, William and Steven; a step brother, Walter Lorenzen; and a grandchild, Richard Scott Kinsley.

Connor Jeffery Waldhalm infant son of Clint and Donna Waldhalm died
shortly after birth of complications of Trisomy 13, on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Leon N. Andersen
Died: Sep 7, 2003
Leon N. Andersen was born
December 13, 1932 at the family farm in Viborg, SD to Harvey and Freda (Hansen) Andersen. Leon grew up and attended school in Viborg. Leon worked on the family farm and neighboring farms. In 1953, Leon joined the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Leon was honorably discharged in 1955. After serving in the Army, Leon returned to South Dakota living in Yankton, SD.
Leon met Marilyn Brunke and they were married
March 15, 1957 in Yankton. In 1965 they moved to Sioux Falls and Leon started working at Morrells where he worked until retiring in 1995.
Leon enjoyed woodworking, fishing and visiting family and friends.
Leon was a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marilyn of Sioux Falls; four sons, Ronald (Shelly) of Sioux Falls, Roger (Lisa) of Pierre, James of Maryville, TN and Scott (Karen) of Sacramento, CA. Two daughters, Robin (Brian) VanderPlaats of Pierre and Cindy (Ron) Meier of Sioux Falls, fourteen grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome of Sioux Falls and Larry of Woodbine, IA and one sister Diane (Lee) Rist of Centerville, SD.
Leon was preceded in death
by his parents, brother, Harlan, sister, Marian Weins and grandchild, Megan Meier.
Thelma A. Unzelman
Died: Sep 4, 2003
Thelma A. Pederson was born
September 14, 1916 to Anton and Helen (Swanson) Pederson in Flandreau, SD. Thelma Grew up and attended school in Flandreau. Thelma met Volney “Bud” Unzelman and they were married
May 10, 1934 in Sioux Falls. They made their home in Sioux Falls where they had three children, Shirley, Joyce and Larry. Thelma and Bud owned and operated the Happy Dog Kennels in Sioux Falls until 1978 when they retired. Bud died
June 12, 1990. After retiring Thelma enjoyed traveling to her daughters homes in Portland and San Diego.
Grateful for having shared her life is her son, Larry D. (Char) Unzelman of Sioux Falls, two daughters, Shirley A. (Carlan)Westre of San Diego, CA and Joyce M. (Roy) Carlberg of Portland, OR, ten grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and sister Evelyn (Albert) Antar of Sanford, FL.
Thelma was preceded in death
by her husband, parents, one brother and two sisters.
Mildred "Marie" E. Johnson
Died: Sep 8, 2003
Sioux Falls, Mildred “Marie” E. Johnson died
on Monday, September 8, 2003 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Marie was born
in Dickinson, ND on March 30, 1907 to Edwin K. and Emma Beatrice (Mentz) Leonard. She attended school in Rapid City, SD, Lawrence, KS and the University of Wyoming at Laramie for two years.
She began working for the Civil Aeronautics Administration (now FAA). She left the FAA and married
Leonard W. Johnson on May 14, 1949 at Stillwater, MN. Mr. Johnson was a railroad engineer for the Soo Line in North Dakota. They lived in Enderlin, ND, until his death
on October 3, 1954.
Following Leonard’s death, Marie returned to Arlington, VA and began her career with the Army in the Pentagon as a secretary in Logistics, Plans & Material. She retired after 26 ½ years. While in Arlington Marie traveled with a retired group of seniors, performing, singing and dancing. She also traveled in the USA and abroad.
Grateful for having shared her life are a cousin, Dale Campbell, Lemmon, SD and a host of other relatives and friends.

Juanita Coffee

Juanita M. Hawkins, daughter of John Oliver and Mary Alice (Confer) Hawkins, was born
May 19, 1911 in Novinger, MO. She grew up and graduated from high school in Millerton, IA.
On November 27, 1929 she was united in marriage to Glen Coffey in Centerville, IA. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD in January of 1930. Juanita’s life centered on her family, church and friends. Glen preceded her in death
on April 10, 1972.
She was a active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and enjoyed sewing and quilting.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Glenna Mae (Robert) Wilson, Sioux Falls, Phyllis Faye (Leon) Siebenahler, Luverne, MN; her daughter in-law, Betty Coffey, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren, Pepper (Fred) Hlebichuk, Curtis (Brenda) Wilson, Mark (Colleen) Wilson, Shelley (Ned) Sandbulte, Debi (Brad) Van Lant, Dave (Terri) Siebenahler, Darcy (Mike) Raddle, Darwin (Kelli) Siebenahler, Kevin (Melanie) Coffey, Crystal Erdmann; 15 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A.R. Mullinix
Died: Sep 8, 2003
A.R. “Buck” Mullinix was born
July 10, 1915, at New Cambre, Missouri, to Jesse and Geraldine (Fitzgerald) Mullinix. The family moved to South Dakota when Buck was a young boy. He attended Lincoln County schools. Buck assisted his father on the family farm. After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he returned to South Dakota where he worked at several businesses in the Canton area. Throughout his career, Buck owned and operated several area businesses. In 1960, he owned and operated the Old Style Bar. Buck retired in 1972.
He enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing with his family and friends. In his free time, he liked motorcycling. He was a proud and active associate member of the Fraternal Order Of Police and was a long-time member of the American Legion. He loved people and enjoyed the many friendships that he had developed over the decades as a businessman.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter from his first marriage, Dorothy Waugh, Sioux Falls, SD; children from his second marriage, Tarzan Mullinix and his wife, Donita, Beresford, SD, Tracy Mullinix and his wife, Lisa, Nashville, TN, Torrey Mullinix and his wife, Virginia, Wakonda, SD, Terri Roan and her husband, Larry, Sioux City, IA; children from his third marriage, Jesse Mullinix and his wife, Pam, Sioux Falls, SD, Georgia Mullinix, Sioux Falls, SD, 31 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; his brother, Arnold "Dutch" Mullinix and his wife, Norma, Twin Falls, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his parents, his third wife, Patricia, three sons, Tyrone and Tam, an infant son, Milton, grandson, Jeremy, granddaughter, Camila, four brothers, and two sisters.
Scott Nelson
Died: Sep 9, 2003
Scott Peter Nelson was born
April 5, 1974 in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Hartford, SD where he attended West Central School. He graduated from high school in 1992. Following high school, Scott entered military service in 1994, and served in the Marine Corp. He received his honorable discharge in 1998. He returned to Sioux Falls where he was employed as a waiter at the Olive Garden Restaurant. He was working there at the time of his death.
Scott loved photography, music, comedy and being with family and friends. He will be remembered most for his laugh, hysterical humor and jokes.

Craig Mitchell
Died: Sep 10, 2003
Craig Mitchell, 45, stepped from this life September 10, 2003. Craig had been a resident at Wyant Woods Care Center in Akron, Ohio for the last several years following a serious car accident in June 1997. At the time, Craig served as District Sales Manager for American Greeting Card Corporation in the Dallas, Texas region. Craig earned a Master of Business Administration from Font Bonne College in Saint Louis. He worked for American Greetings from the time he graduated from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion in August 1982 until his accident.
Craig also attended Iowa State University, where he served as President and Treasurer of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Craig graduated from Washington High School in 1976. At Washington High, Craig served as Senior Class President.
Craig’s survivors include his wife, Jane, his children, Thomas, Allison, and Michael, all of Medina, Ohio; his mother, Carolyn and Robert Kachel, of Sioux Falls; his brother, William and Benidita Mitchell, of Orem, Utah; and his grandfather, Gideon Mettler of Menno, South Dakota. Craig’s father, Clair Mitchell, preceded Craig in death, leaving this life in 1976.
Craig loved life and activity. Keeping family and friends close was a great joy to him. We will miss his exuberance and laughter, his love of life, his vibrant activity and his love of family.

Dorothy I. Herman

Dorothy was born
in Verndale, MN, on August 22, 1907, to Emma Dahl Green and John Herman Green. She had three brothers and one sister, all deceased. Dorothy married
Albert James Herman on June 10, 1936. They had one daughter. Albert died
in 1997.
Dorothy graduated from Canton High School and continued her education at Augustana Academy, Augustana College, and Sioux Falls College. Her first job was teaching in a one-room school near Tea, SD. She also taught in western SD and Worthing. In Sioux Falls she taught at Linwood, Beadle, and Longfellow elementary schools. During the 1940’s and 1950’s, Dorothy and Albert owned and operated South Sioux Grocery on the corner of 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue. After her retirement, Dorothy was an active volunteer for a variety of community organizations including Sioux Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Good Samaritan Village Auxiliary, and for her church, First United Methodist. She was also a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Herman Frey, Roseville, MN; her niece, Denise Green Hinders (Dean), Williamsburg, VA; Denise’s sons, Scott and Mark (Terry); Mark’s children, Max and Dorothy; numerous nephews; her daughter’s step-family; and many good friends.
