Ron Hannah, 53, of Whitewood, SD died
Friday, September 23, 2011 in Whitewood.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Ziebarth officiating.
Ron was born
in Elgin, ND on January 8, 1958 to Erwin Duane and Donna Rae (Seymour) Hannah. He started working with his family business, Whitewood Sand and Gravel, where he learned to love and run heavy equipment. He worked in the oil field in Wyoming and also worked 20 years for Wharf Resources starting out as a "crusher hound" and moving up to general mine foreman.
Ron loved fishing, camping, bike riding, sail boating and working around the house. He cherished all of the wonderful times with his family. Ron had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a helping hand. He especially loved spoiling his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother Donna Hannah of Whitewood; sons Corey Hannah of Gillette, WY, and Jeremy (Amanda) Hannah of Watford City, ND; daughters Sheena Hannah of Spearfish and Amy (Jake) Mack of Spearfish; brother, Bud (Tina) Hannah of Spearfish; sisters Rhonda Quenzer of Whitewood and Jolene Bouta of Spearfish; grandchildren, Carter, Sidnee, Gavin, Bryce, Natalie and Jayden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was greeted in heaven by his dad Erv Hannah, his sister Corrine (Corky) Rear and his grandparents.
Lois Mary Weston
January 29, 1929 - October 24, 2011
Lois Mary Weston, 82, Reva, and formerly of Nemo, died
Monday, October 24, 2011, at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at the Nemo Community Church in Nemo with Pastor Nick Rombough and Pastor Henry Mohagen officiating. Inurnment will be at the Nemo Cemetery.
Lois was born
January 29, 1929, at Luverne, MN, to Charles and Lillian (Engelking) Leistico. She graduated from high school in 1947 at Worthington, MN. She met Gordon Weston at a drive in movie and the couple was married
at Worthington, MN, on February 22, 1950.
She worked at various jobs but raising her five children was her priority. Her house was always a home. She started the "Lunch with Lois" club which still has active chapters in the Twin Cities and Rapid City.
In 1980, the family moved to Nemo where Lois worked as a Postmaster Reserve for the Nemo Post Office. She also worked as a Collegiate Life Underwriter for Prairie State Life and New England Insurance Company in Rapid City. She was also active as a Toastmistress and the Literacy Council of the Black Hills. She was known for her "Bunkhouse Blues" quilts in Nemo. Gordy and Lois enjoyed taking drives in the Black Hills.
Following Gordy's death
in 2006, she moved to the Hanson Ranch in 2007 where she enjoyed reading, sewing, music, and her computer. She tried to talk the owners of the Reva Store into installing a car wash. Currently there is still no car wash in Reva.
Survivors include her son, Todd (Robin) Weston, Scandia, MN; daughters, Julie (Keith) Hanson, Reva, SD, Darcy Weston, St. Paul, MN, and Nancy (Mike) McKenzie, Hill City, MN; two brothers, Chuck Leistico, and Roger Leistico, both of Chicago, IL.
Survivors also include five grandchildren, Nicole (Bruce) Altenhofen, Jacklyn (Jeremiah) Panning, Todd (Briann) Weston Jr., MaryJo (Andy) Vickers, and Robert Dynda; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, her husband, and one son, Jim Weston.
A memorial has been established the Black Hills Literacy Council or South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
Donald Arthur Haefs

Donald Arthur Haefs, 78, Rapid City, died
Tuesday, 10/25/2011 at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital.
Committal services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis with Pastor Willard Olsen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis prior to leaving for the cemetery.
Donald was born
February 19, 1933 at Piedmont, SD, to Ervin Haefs and Vivian Stolp (Canaday). Don attended country school and grew up in the Black Hills.
Don joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably from 1952 until 1955, including a tour of Korea. Following his discharge he returned home and started working in auto body repair in the Northern Black Hills. He also worked as a siding contractor and was a mechanic.
Don loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his sons Frank (Joyce) Haefs, Rapid City, Jim (Carmen) Haefs, Rapid City; one daughter, Donna Haefs, Lead; two sisters, Judy Wells, Rapid City and Vesta (Tim) Wells Johnson, Rapid City; also 7 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, son, John, brother, Ervin and sister, Florence.
Constance Reay Cox
April 28, 1925 - October 23, 2011
Constance Reay "Connie" Cox, 86, Box Elder, died
Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Westhills Village Health Care Center in Rapid City.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Rev. Kay Jennings officiating. Burial
follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to ones favorite charity.
Connie was born
April 28, 1925 at Middlesbrough, England to Foster and Elsie (Curnow) Reay. She received her education in England and joined the Women's Royal Air Force where she was an instrument repairer. Following her honorable discharge in 1950 she immigrated to Canada.
On January 26, 1952 she married
Calvin Dale Cox at St. Vitelle Winnipeg, Canada. Calvin was serving in the US Air Force. The couple lived in New Mexico, Colorado, Oregon, Germany, Kansas, England, Washington, Indiana and finally settled in Box Elder.
Connie volunteered for Family Services, Ellsworth A.F.B. Library and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed entertaining and playing bingo. She was an avid steel tip dart player and she liked to play the slot machines in Deadwood.
Survivors include her husband Calvin Cox, Box Elder; son James (Christine) Cox, Plantation, FL; daughter, Joy Cox, Box Elder; grandson Jason Cox, Plantation, FL; granddaughter Julia Binkley, Belleville IL.; brothers, Robert Reay, England, Bryan Reay, England, James Reay, Indianapolis, IN, Winston Reay, England; one sister, Carole McKenzie, France.
She was preceded in death
by her son Michael Cox, daughter, Melody Rydgren, granddaughter, Jennifer Williams Defeo.
Lucille A. Hagel

Lucille Hagel, 88 of Presho, SD, and formerly of Sturgis, SD, passed away
October 21, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Lucille A. Schummer was born
April 4, 1923, in Sturgis, SD, the daughter of Domnick and Suzie Schummer. She grew up with three brothers on their farm 18 miles east of Sturgis. She was united in marriage to Buck Johnson; they had one son, Clifford Johnson. They separated in 1946.
Lucille worked in Sturgis at the Fruth Hotel for Jack Sherman until Clifford graduated from high school in 1957. Lucille married
Carl Hagel in 1957. They worked for Rounds Construction Company for several years in Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Carl and Lucille moved to the Presho, SD, area in the 1960's, hauling gravel to several ranchers, farmers, and county roads. Carl had a stroke and Lucille took care of him at home. She figured as long as she was at home she would care for elderly people in her home. It was not long before she had a waiting list.
Survivors include her son, Clifford (Juanita) Johnson; two grandchildren, Donene (Stan) Taylor and Justin Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Roper Taylor; her brother, Robert Schummer and his family members; family members of her deceased brothers, Fred and Vic Schummer; and her stepchildren, Carla (Little Man) Carlson, Lee (Dick) Fritz, Bob (Audrey) Hagel, and Jim (Jo) Hagel; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her deceased husband, Carl.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; brother, Fred Schummer and his wife, Mary Ann; brother, Vic Schummer; husband, Carl Hagel; and stepdaughters, Helen Vanderbeek and Janice Kramer.
Lucille was a good-hearted person willing to help everyone. Mom loved her dogs and always had a dachshund. Her yard was full of beautiful trees and flowers. She was an excellent shot with her 22 rifle and loved to hunt and fish. Her home was always open to everyone. Mom looked forward to hunting season when her yearly hunters would come to stay. They also looked forward to Mom's hospitality. Mom was a great mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and all those that knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Ave., Sturgis, SD, from noon to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011, with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial
will follow at the St. Aloysius Cemetery
in Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a memorial to Stanley Jones Memorial Clinic, 116 N. Main Ave., Presho, SD 57568.
Judy Charlene Finck

Judy Charlene Finck, 71, Newell, died
Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Newell with Pastor Brad Scott officiating.
A memorial has been established.
Judy was born
December 29, 1939 at Murdo, SD, to Charles and Ada (Swan) Brunson. She was the fourth in a family of ten children, raised on a ranch in Mellette County. She attended Prospect Valley Country School and graduated from Belvidere High School in 1959. During the summer months she moved to Pierre and worked at the State Capitol Building.
Judy moved to Mission, SD, and worked at the State Welfare Department. After retiring from a typing position she moved to Omaha, NE for a while. She returned to her parents and worked at the Murdo Hospital.
On January 15, 1968 she married
Kenneth Finck at Rapid City. They returned to Kenny's ranch where they lived until 1975 when they moved to a farm near Nisland, SD. They retired and sold the farm and moved to Newell where they have lived since.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Finck, Newell; two daughters, Kim (Larry) Nelson, Gillette, WY, Koreen (Matt) O'Dea, Vale, SD; three brothers, Darrel Brunson, Rapid City, Jack (Cindy) Brunson, Edgemont, SD, and Jim Brunson; one sister, Sue (Terry) Byrd, Belle Fourche; also 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Martha Elizabeth Kruse
April 5, 1940 - October 21, 2011
Martha Elizabeth Kruse, 71, of Sturgis, died
Friday, October 21, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Rev. Lloyd Lemke officiating.
Martha was born
April 5, 1940, in Boston, MA, to Homer and Katheryn (Devens) Brackett. She grew up and attended school in Benicia, CA. Martha moved to the Black Hills in the early 1960's. She worked as a nurse's assistant at Fort Meade for several years.
Martha loved motorcycling in the Black Hills and was a member of the Retreads, a motorcycle club for cyclists 40 years and older. She and Jim hosted motorcyclists from around the U.S. and Canada in their home and yard each year during the motorcycle rally.
Martha is survived by her husband of nearly 12 years, James Kruse; and one brother, Peter Brackett of Dixon, CA.
She was preceded in death
by both parents; her first husband, John Whities, Jr. in 1982; and a brother, Albert Brackett.
Mona Lenora Fox

Mona Lenora Fox, 88, formerly of the Newell area, died
Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Clarkson Mtn. View Health Care in Rapid City.
Visitation will be Monday from noon to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Believers Fellowship in Sturgis with Pastor John Williamson officiating. Burial
will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery
in Belle Fourche.
Mona was born
March 8, 1923, at Belle Fourche, SD, to George and Antona (Bleha) Jones. She grew up on a farm north of Belle Fourche. She graduated from high school in Nisland.
Mona married
Dale Fox on November 28, 1941. Dale served overseas in the Army during WWII. After he came home, they lived on the Fox ranch northwest of Redig. After a few years, they moved to another Fox ranch east of Redig where they lived until 1979. At this time, they moved to Newell to a small farm. They lived there for about 20 years before moving to Sturgis where they lived for a few years. The last four years, Mona lived in Rapid City in assisted living and finally at a nursing home.
Grateful to have shared her life are her daughters, Diana (Lowell) Smiley, Rapid City, and Sandra (Tom) DeYoe, Newell; son, Michael (Roberta) Fox, Redig; nine beloved grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mona was preceded in death
by her husband, Dale; one son, Kelly; her parents; and sisters and a brother.
She will be greatly missed.
A memorial has been established to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Waldemar F. "Voldey" Dahlquist

Voldey was born
August 7, 1920 at Newell, SD, to Fred Hjolmer and Selma Marie (England) Dahlquist. He grew up on the family homestead and graduated from Newell High School. He attended colledge at South Dakota State in Brookings before moving to California to work at Consolidated Aircraft as a tool and die maker in California. He helped build B-24 bombers.
He married
Rosalie Edwards on December 4, 1942 in San Diego, CA.
Voldey joined the Army Air Corps and served as a crew chief and mechanic. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and moved to Cheyenne, WY, where he was employed as a mechanic for Western Airlines. They moved to San Diego, CA, where he was employed through civil service and painted houses. In 1948 they returned to Newell where they farmed and raised their family. Voldey drove a school bus and worked as a plumber until 1961 when he started working for Ft. Meade. He was in nursing services and later the engineering department. Voldey retired in 1985.
Voldey was an active man, who owned and piloted his own plane. He built stock cars and motorcycle trikes. His shop was always full of projects and people. He helped anyone in need.
Voldey was a lifetime member of the VFW and former commander of the Newell VFW. He was a member of the Sturgis Weselyan Church, Sturgis Senior Center, American Trike Association, Hillbilly's camping club and the Good Sam club.
Survivors include his wife Rosalie Dahlquist, Sturgis; one son Rony (Jackie) Dahlquist, New Underwood; daughters, Marlyn Crowser, Sturgis, Rhea (Robert) Johnson, Spearfish, Lorena (Wade) Derflinger, Faith, Denise (Kelly) Riggins, Kadoka, Jonell (Wendell) Osborn, David City, NE; also two special sons, Art Dakness, Sturgis, John Cram, Tilford; also 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, three sisters, one son, and one son in law, Jack Crowser.
Rozelle Purchase

Rozelle Purchase, 71, Deadwood, passed away
on Saturday, October 15, 2011at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Lead with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Oak Ridge Cemetery
in Deadwood following the service.
Rozelle attended Deadwood Elementary as a child and graduated from Deadwood High School in 1958. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #26 of Deadwood as well as a past member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 5969.
Rozelle is survived by her ex-husband, Don Purchase; a son, Steven Purchase; step-sons, Dennis Purchase and Stephen Purchase; brother Merno "Jr." Stalder; two grandchildren, Matt Bunch, Brian Burleson; four great-grandchildren; and special friends Marita Noeller, Pam Kirby, and Darleen Thacker.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a daughter, Lori Lynn; a step-son, Donald J. Purchase, and a great-granddaughter, Averi Bunch.
A memorial has been established.
John Harold Nelson

John Harold Nelson, 86, Newell, died
Friday, October 14, 2011, at Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care. Following his wishes, his body has been cremated.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Inurnment will follow at Hope Cemetery
in Newell.
Harold was born
April 1, 1925, at Newell, SD, to Albert and Julia (Stolnack) Nelson. He attended school in Newell and graduated from Newell High School.
He married
Alberta Larive on June 29, 1957, at the St. Onge Congregational Church in St. Onge, SD. Harold farmed and ranched his entire life.
Harold was an active board member of the Belle Fourche Irrigation District for many years. He made several trips to Washington, DC, seeking funding for various water projects.
Harold enjoyed bowling and dancing with his wife, Alberta. He also enjoyed predicting the weather and playing cards. He enjoyed working the land, especially one shovel full at a time. He ended the day with one of his kids scratching his back and a bowl of ice cream.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Nelson, Newell; two sons, John Nelson, Lonsdale, MN, and Gary (Lisa) Nelson, Newell; four daughters, Rosalie (Charles) Tennis, Vale, SD, Roselyn Nelson (Wolfgang Manwell), Rapid City, SD, Iona (David) Branscum, Sioux Falls, SD, and Sherry (Jim) Babcock, Wolsey, SD; six grandchildren, Heath and Miranda Nelson, Alex and Tyler Babcock, and Nicholas and Abigail Nelson; and one sister, Mary Prestjohn, McKinney, TX.
He was preceded in death
by his parents and two brothers, Emil and Wesley.
Memorials have been established to the Newell Ambulance and the Newell Fire Department.
