Harold E. Knight
JEROME, Idaho — Harold E. Knight, 86, Jerome, formerly of Custer, died
Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at his home.
Survivors include one daughter, Yvonne Baker, Jerome; two sons, Bud Knight, Ten Sleep, Wyo., and Calvin Knight, Twin Falls, Idaho; two brothers, Delbert Knight, Iowa, and Henry Knight, Wahpeton, N.D.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Isburg-McColley's Chapel in Custer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Isburg-McColley's Chapel, with the Rev. Joel Ziolkowski officiating.
Burial
will be in Custer Cemetery.
Marie E. Corrin
RAPID CITY — Marie E. Corrin, 84, Rapid City, died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, as the result of a traffic accident near Lusk, Wyo.
Corrin is survived by two sons, Kenneth Corrin of Rapid City and Denis Corrin of Bryant Pond, Maine.; by two daughters, Jana Faye of Longmont, Colo., and Kay Larson of Holyoke, Colo.; by one sister, Genevieve Sloan of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Behrens Mortuary.
Emery L. Markwed
SIOUX FALLS — Emery L. Markwed, 79, Sioux Falls, formerly of Kirley, died
on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls.
Services are pending with Feigum Funeral Home of Pierre.
Betty J. Bentley
RAPID CITY — Betty J. Bentley, 72, Rapid City died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, as the result of a traffic accident near Lusk, Wyo.
Bentley is survived by one daughter, Jane Bentley of Phoenix; by three sons, Bert Bentley of Singapore, Todd Bentley of Phoenix, and Chris Bentley of Fremont, Calif.; by one sister, Genevieve Sloan of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and by five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Behrens Mortuary.
Gertrude E. Smith
CUSTER — Funeral services for Gertrude E. Smith, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Worden Chapel in Newcastle, Wyo., with the Rev. Mick Bohn officiating.
Burial
will follow in the Custer Cemetery.
The family prefers that memorial contributions go to Weston County (Wyo.) Home Health Care.
Mrs. Smith died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Gertrude was born
July 26, 1922, at Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas R. and Adelaide (Alberhaskey) Plummer. She received her grade- school education at Old Elk Mountain School in South Dakota and graduated from Newcastle (Wyo.) High School in 1941.
She married
Theodore Mann on Aug. 30, 1940, in Deadwood. To this union three children were born: Vernon Eugene Mann, Julia Kathleen Mann and Thomas Walter Mann.
Theodore died
in 1971.
On Nov. 19, 1973, she married
John Lee Smith. They lived at the edge of Custer. Mr. Smith died
Jan. 12, 1983.
Gertrude continued living in Custer until June 11, 1991, when failing health forced her to move near Dwayne and Julia Stanton.
Gertrude worked at many different things. She worked for C&M Jewelry in Custer for 14 years. She was also a home health-care provider in Newcastle, Wyo., and in Custer during the pioneer days of home health-care. She was also an accomplished ranch woman, helping her husband, Theodore, in all phases of ranch work.
Preceding her in death
wee her parents and both husbands.
Surviving her are daughter and son-in-law Julia and Dwayne Stanton of Newcastle, Wyo., two sons, Vernon Eugene Mann of Anaconda, Mont., and Thomas Walter Mann of Hermiston, Ore. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mildred K. Moen
RAPID CITY — Mildred K. Moen, 84, Rapid City, died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at her home.
Millie, as she was affectionately known, was born
April 17, 1916, in rural Minnehaha County to Sven T. and Britha (Johnson) Kirkeby. She was the youngest of 11 children.
On May 27, 1945, Millie married
Elef Moen in Baltic. The couple lived in Rapid City most of their lives, where Elef barbered and Millie owned her own beauty shop.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Michael Moen, Modesto, Calif., and Stuart Moen, Spring, Texas; one daughter, Beckie Franco, Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, Sigfred Kirkeby, Baltic; eight grandchildren; Melanie, Merileigh, Morgan and Mackenzie Moen, Modesto; Gabriel and Elliott Franco, Tulsa, Okla., Israel Franco and Rey Franco, Jr., Gainesville; and five nieces. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Elef, on Aug. 14, 1988, and eight brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City, with Rev. Don Brendtro officiating.
Burial
will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis.
A procession to the cemetery
will leave the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. Monday.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
John William Whipple
RAPID CITY — John William Whipple, 9, Rapid City, died
Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, as the result of an accident near his home.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Debora and Dean Huffman, Rapid City; his father, William J. Whipple, Highmore; three brothers, Dustin Larive, Michael Whipple and Steven Whipple, all of Rapid City; two stepbrothers, Paul Huffman, Rapid City, and Lance Siver, DeSmet; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Linda Larive, Rapid City; paternal grandparents, James and Adeline Whipple, Highmore; stepgrandparents, Sherman and Sandy Huffman and Micheal and Brenda Knoll, all of Box Elder.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Melvin E. Delzer
SPEARFISH — Melvin E. Delzer, 73, Spearfish, died
Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria, Spearfish; four sons, Roger Delzer, Spearfish, Ross Delzer, Newell, Charles Delzer, Aladdin, Wyo., and Bernard Delzer, New Port Beach, Calif.
Arrangements are pending with Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home in Spearfish.
Emery L. Markwed
SIOUX FALLS — Emery L. Markwed, 79, Sioux Falls, and formerly of Kirley and Fort Pierre, died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Avera McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls.
He was born
Feb. 18, 1921, at Moenville, the 10th child of Arnt O. and Mary Markwed. He attended grade school in Haakon County and was baptized and confirmed at Deep Creek Lutheran Church.
After his father's death
in 1934, he worked on the parental ranch, caring for his mother.
He married
Josephine Smiley on Dec. 31, 1942, in Fort Pierre. The couple continued to live on the home place during the early years of their marriage, later purchasing their own ranch nearby. In 1946, they had their only child, Dianne Jo. In 1979, after 30 years of ranching in Haakon County, they moved to Fort Pierre.
After his retirement, he enjoyed collecting antiques, horse-riding bits, spurs and branding irons. He also was a skilled carpenter, woodworker and furniture refinisher.
He continued to live in Fort Pierre after his wife's death
in 1990.
He enjoyed visiting with nearby friends and family and often socialized at auctions. As a matter of tradition, his daughter and granddaughters, and later their families, traveled to Fort Pierre each Independence Day to attend the local parade and rodeo with him.
He spent most other holidays with his family in Sioux Falls.
In 1999, he moved into Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.
He was a member of Deep Creek Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway.
Survivors include a daughter, Dianne Olander; two granddaughters, Jodi Holley Latza and Jena Holley, and six great-grandchildren, all of Sioux Falls.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 12, at Deep Creek Lutheran Church in Haakon County, with burial
at Deep Creek Cemetery.
Eva Marie Imsland
PIERRE — Eva Marie Imsland, 90, Pierre, and formerly of Rapid City, died
Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Beverly Health Care Center in Pierre.
Eva Marie Mehlberg was born
Jan. 24, 1910, in Quincy, Wash. As a child, she moved with her parents to a farm north of Raymond in 1912. Eva received her education at Ashton Consolidated School and graduated from Ashton High School. She continued her college education at Aberdeen Northern Normal School and Presentation Nursing School.
Eva married
Torjus L. Imsland of Crandall on Oct. 8, 1928. They farmed east of Faith and, in 1929, moved closer to Faith to be closer to his job at Bagley Elevator. They were transferred to Glenham for a year and returned to Faith in 1936 when Torjus was appointed manager of the Bagley Elevator. Eva worked by his side as bookkeeper. In 1951, Torjue accepted a job in Rapid City at First National Bank. Eva worked at a fabric store and also at JC Penney. In 1959, Torjus and Eva built their home in the Black Hills near Sheridan Lake. They lived there until Torjus died. Eva moved from Rapid City to Parkwood Apartments in Pierre in 1996 to be near her family.
Eva was a founding member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid City and a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pierre. Eva also was a former member of Minneluzahan Senior Citizens in Rapid City.

Survivors include one son, Dale H. Imsland, San Mateo, Calif.; two daughters, Carol (Ken) J. Kamppi, Boise, Idaho, and Gloria (Vernon) A. Bump, Pierre; grandchildren, Deborah (John) Hepper and Craig (Melissa) Bump, Pierre; Renee (Greg) Lehr, Canton; Lori and Calvin (Teri) Kamppi, Boise, Idaho; and Jerry Kamppi, Los Angeles; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Scally, Suisun, Calif.; and sisters-in-law, Oasa Sundvold, Clark, Hazel Imsland, Groten, and Inez Imsland and Thelma Sullivan, both of Loveland, Colo.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Torjus Imsland; two sisters, Martha Loomis and Esther Brown; two brothers, Martin Mehlberg and Elmer Mehlberg; and a great-grandson, Tyler Hepper.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. CDT today at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday, Aug. 12, at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre.
Burial
will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Cemetery
in Rapid City.
