John P. Grahm Jr.
DENVER — John P. Grahm Jr., 55, died
Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Denver, as a result of a train accident.
Survivors include his wife, Pier Grahm, Denver; two sons, John Grahm III and Derek Grahm, both of Denver; three daughters, Theresa Grahm and Kimberly Grahm, both of Denver, and Michelle Grahm, Rapid City; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A one-night wake service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the CAP Building in Martin.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at the CAP Building with the Rev. Peter Maupin officiating.
Burial
will be in Knight Cemetery
in Batesland.
Macy Loren Simpson
RAPID CITY — Macy Loren Simpson, 1 month, Rapid City, died
Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Michael and Lori A. Thiel Simpson, Rapid City; one brother, Jake Simpson, Rapid City; grandparents John and Freya Simpson, Winner, and Les and Lee Thiel, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; great grandparents Mel and Margo Anderson, Rapid City, and George and Mary-Margaret Thiel, Montevideo, Minn.; two aunts, Kristina Simpson, Washington, D.C., and Lisa Collins and her husband, Gary, Rapid City; one uncle, Robert Simpson, and his wife, Johanna, Sioux Falls; and great-aunt Marty Jenner, Rapid City.
A viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery
with graveside services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the cemetery
with the Rev. Steven Benn officiating.
Funeral services are under the direction of Campbell, Paula & Quinn Funeral Home in Rapid City.

LEAD — Mildred I. Edlund, 86, Lead, died
Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at David M. Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma Jean Kramlich, Lead; one son, David Edlund, Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis with the Rev. Bill Armagost officiating.

Aloysius Black Tail Deer
MANDERSON — Aloysius Black Tail Deer, 61, Manderson, died
Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, in Rapid City.
Survivors include five sons, Gerald Black Tail Deer, Welch, Minn., Joe Black Tail Deer, Rapid City, Duane Black Tail Deer, Sioux Falls, and Veldon Black Tail Deer and Aloysius Black Tail Deer Jr., both of Red Wing, Minn; one daughter, Vonda Black Tail Deer, Rapid City; and eight grandchildren.
Two-night wake services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Wounded Knee District School in Manderson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Wounded Knee District School with the Rev. Cordelia Red Owl officiating.
Burial
will be at St. Philips Episcopal Cemetery
in Manderson.

Mildred Moen
RAPID CITY — Mildred Moen, 84, Rapid City, died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at her home.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Moen, Modesto, Calif., and Stuart Moen, Spring, Texas; and one daughter, Becki Franco, Gainesville, Fla.
Arrangements are pending with Osheim-Catron Funeral Home in Rapid City.
John Carl Rittberger
HERMOSA — John Carl Rittberger, 89, Hermosa, died
Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his residence near Hermosa.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, and from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hermosa.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hermosa with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating. Burial
will follow at Hermosa Cemetery.
John was born
Sept. 23, 1910, near Hermosa to
Gottlieb and Pauline Rittberger. He attended the rural school in Custer County and Brookings College. He returned to the ranch home and worked with his brother. He spent his life on the ranch in the dairy business and ranching.
He was united in marriage to Helen Guethlein of Quinn, and to this union were born
five children.
He was a member of Battle River Lodge in Hermosa and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He served on the Custer County Planning Committee for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Rittberger, Hermosa; three sons, Fred Rittberger, John L. Rittberger and Robert Rittberger, all of Hermosa; two daughters, Bonnie Miller, Hermosa, and Betty Yost, Wilmore, Kan.; one sister, Lena Hartshorn; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Hills and to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Arthur Philip Peirce
STURGIS — Arthur Philip Peirce, 82, Piedmont, and formerly of Pierre, died
Monday, July 3, 2000, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center near Sturgis.
Survivors include two brothers, Clarence Peirce, Portland, Ore., and Walter Peirce, College, Alaska; three sisters, Harriet Headley, Duluth, Minn., Edna Minger, Tipton, Okla., and Eloise Nafziger, Foresthill, Calif.; and nephews and nieces, including his caretaker, June Nix of Murdo.
Memorial services were held July 31 with his nephew, the Rev. Russell Peirce, officiating. Burial
was at the family plot in Philip.
Joseph C. Black Cat
ALLEN — Joseph C. Black Cat, 74, Allen, died
Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Black Cat, Allen; one son, Les Bear Nose, Allen; three daughters, Keneona Black Cat and Shirley May, both of Allen, and Valerie Shots, Potato Creek; one adopted daughter, Gerri Harris, Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.
Two-night wake services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at American Horse Day School in Allen.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at American Horse Day School with the Rev. Paul Manhart, S.J., officiating.
Burial
will be at Salway Cemetery
in Allen.
Harold William ‘Rick' Ricard
"To know Rick is to love him."
BOZEMAN, Mont. — Harold "Rick" William Ricard, 81, Bozeman, passed away
Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at his residence.
He was born
to Joseph and Charlotte "Hardy" Ricard on April 30, 1919, in Sturgis, S.D. Harold was born
and raised on a farm in rural South Dakota. With great pride, he served in the Army in World War II and fought on the European Front, where he was awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery. He lived and worked all over South Dakota and Montana, finally settling in his dream spot — Bozeman.
Rick worked at Owenhouse Hardware until his retirement and beyond. Those who knew him loved his stories and delighted in the sparkle in his eyes. He will be greatly missed and remembered.
Survivors include his wife, Fern Ricard of Bozeman; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Marge Noonan of Yreka, Calif., and Gary and Kathy Hinckley of Denver; daughter and son-in-law, Rikki Ricard and Adrian Jarreau of Seattle; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Monty Stensland of Spearfish, S.D.; three grandchildren, Shauna, Joshua, and Jessica Hinckley of Denver; two stepgrandchildren, Sandy and Jessica; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death
by his parents.
Memorial services will be today at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel in Bozeman. Interment will follow at a later date in Black Hills National Cemetery

Carter David Lemon
RAPID CITY — Carter David Lemon, Rapid City, was stillborn
on Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his parents, Michael and Gina Lemon, and his twin brother, Zachary Lemon, Rapid City; maternal grandparents, Don and Dorothy Kistler, Colby, Kan., and paternal grandparents, Bruce and Marlene Lemon, Sioux Falls.

George R. Bieberdorf
COLUMBUS, Neb. — George R. Bieberdorf, 85, Columbus, died
Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Columbus Manor nursing home.
George was born
July 7, 1915, in Alberta, Canada, to Fred and Bertha (Hein) Bieberdorf. He graduated from high school in Rapid City. While working in Rapid City, he met and married
Elsie Hein in 1936. During the Depression years, they moved where they could find work. George was a welder at Pettibone and Mullikan in Chicago. A move was made to Julesburg, Colo., where he and a brother-in-law had a Coast to Coast store.
After leaving Colorado, George moved his family to Columbus, Neb., where he was employed at Dale Electronics Inc. In the 1970s, George and his family moved to Creston, Neb. George worked as a machinist at Creston Manufacturing Co., and after they quit, he went to Lindsay and worked there as a machinist. George then went to work for the city of Creston as a maintenance engineer and was a jack-of-all-trades for fixing things in the community. He was also past mayor of Creston.
George was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Bieberdorf, Columbus; one son, Alan (Nancy) Bieberdorf, New Mexico; three sisters, Elsie (Larry) Ermish, Tempe, Ariz., Agnes Schamber, Rapid City, and Leona Ferguson, Hot Springs, S.D.; one brother, Donald (Evelyn) Bieberdorf, Portland, Ore; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Creston, with services following at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Rockswold officiating.
Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery
in Creston.
