Mary Jo Penticoff
DEADWOOD - Mary Jo Penticoff, 56, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at her residence in Boulder Canyon.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to services on Saturday, July 22, at the church.
A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Gary Oreshoski officiating. Burial
will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Mary Jo was born
Dec. 11, 1943, at Mitchell, to Ray and Clarice (Miller) Kuckleburg. She grew up and attended grade school in Vivian. She graduated from Murdo High School. Mary Jo married
Mick Penticoff on Nov. 30, 1963, at Murdo. They lived in many places throughout their married
life, including Sturgis from 1980 until 1994. They lived the past two years near Deadwood.
Her many friends will remember her laughter and sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, Mick Penticoff, Deadwood; one son, Jason Penticoff, Spearfish; three daughters, Melissa Regan, Sturgis, Amy Huotari and Jody Massie, both of Hillsboro, N.D.; her parents, Ray and Clarice Kuckleburg, Sturgis; two brothers, Dr. Raymond Kuckleburg, Atlanta, and John Kuckleburg, Springfield; one sister, Barbara Varilek, Rapid City; six grandchildren; and very special friends Larry and Lana Mowry, Saratoga, Wyo.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
Mary Lou Heck
EDGEMONT - Mary Lou Heck, 69, died
Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Custer Community Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Herman "Buddy" Heck, Edgemont.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Isburg-VandeBossche Chapel of Edgemont.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at United Church in Edgemont. Burial
will be at Edgemont Cemetery.
Kenneth Ellingson
SPEARFISH - Kenneth Ellingson, 86, died
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Tommy Ellingson, and his son, Jerry Ellingson, both of Spearfish.
Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel.
Volney D. 'Pete' Tidball Jr.
WHITEWOOD - Volney D. "Pete" Tidball Jr., 82, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish, In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated, and no public services will be held.
Survivors include his children, John Craig "Jack" Tidball, Sherwood, Ore.; Linda Klind, McCall, Idaho; Brenda Covert, Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren; and one brother, Keith Tidball, Columbia Falls, Mont.
Arrangements are with Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Home in Sturgis.
Marcia R. Ernster
DENVER - Marcia R. (Lehrkamp) Ernster, 50, formerly of Harrold and Pierre, died
Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital in Denver.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Volk, Parker, Colo.; three daughters, Theresa Ernster, Aurora, Colo., Lora Hermansen, Carrollton, Texas, and Tammy Ernster, Yankton; two grandchildren; mother, Bert Lehrkamp, Pierre; four sisters, Gloria French, Huron, Shirley Keller and Bea Westall, both of Pierre, and Rhonda Krell, Bismarck, N.D.; and two brothers, Leo Lehrkamp, Harrold, and Darrell Lehrkamp, Ariba, Colo.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the church. Burial
will be at Medicine Hill Cemetery
in Harrold.
Donald S. Nugent
SPEARFISH - Donald S. Nugent, 92, died
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Nugent, Spearfish.
Arrangements are pending with Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Lloyd Kenneth Ellingson
SPEARFISH - Funeral services for Lloyd Kenneth Ellingson, 86, Spearfish, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kent Stillson officiating. Burial
will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Fidler Funeral Chapel, Spearfish.
Kenneth died
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home in Spearfish.
Kenneth was born
March 22, 1914, in Rapid City to Michael and Ellen Matillada (Hanrahan) Ellingson. Ken grew up in Milesvile and moved with his family to Spearfish in 1934. Ken married
Thelma (Tommy) Kjos on Nov. 30, 1936, in Spearfish. They lived in the Spearfish area all their lives, with the exception of going to California for two years (1943-45) during World War II, when he worked in the shipyards in Oakland. Ken was a construction worker for a number of years and a water-well driller from 1953 to 1971. In 1961, he built Ken's Trailer Court on Hillsview Drive and managed it until retiring in 1990.
Ken served two terms on the Spearfish City Council. During that time, Ken was instrumental in having the water well on Dahl Road completed. The well is named the Ellingson Well.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and had served on the church council.
Ken is survived by his wife, Tommy; one son, Jerry and his wife, Sharon, Spearfish; three grandchildren, Lori Tennant and her husband, Kevin, Buford, Ga., Teri Ellingson, Aberdeen, and Mike Ellingson and his wife, Corinna, Spearfish; eight great-grandchildren, Shauna Fierro, Spearfish, Brandon, Levi and Jesse Redinger, Aberdeen, Lindsey and Brent Tennant, Buford, and Alison and Kenneth Ellingson, Spearfish; one brother, Clifford, Ripon, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Bernard "Bud"; and two sisters, Marie Manor and Bernice Collins.
Memorials to Banner Health Care Hospice program and Our Savior's Lutheran Church have been established.
Fidler Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Loree H. Volk
DEADWOOD - Loree H. Volk, 63, Deadwood, died
Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Northern Hills General Hospital.
Survivors include one daughter, Geena Maas, Cheyenne, Wyo.; one son, Lane Cox, Brighton, Iowa; two sisters, Lois Wilson, Kent, Wash., and Evelyn Richards, Yakima, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Oakridge Cemetery
in Deadwood.
Minnie 'Minn' Donatino
GREGORY - Minnie "Minn" Donatino, 94, Gregory, died
Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Rosebud Country Care Center.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Roosa, Winner; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 23, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mason Funeral Home in Winner. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Winner. Burial
will follow at Winner Cemetery.
Lora M. Bond
RAPID CITY - Lora M. Bond, 85, Rapid City, formerly of Edgemont, was called home to her Lord to be with her family and loved ones on Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Isburg-VandeBossche Chapel in Edgemont.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, at United Churches in Edgemont, with Edwin Coates officiating. Burial
will follow at Edgemont Cemetery.
Lora was born
Oct. 25, 1914, to George and Louisa (Marsden) Coates in Provo. She grew up and attended country grade school at Provo and graduated from Edgemont High School. She married
Elza Bond on May 13, 1933. They made their home in Edgemont, where she continued to live after Elza's death
in 1981. Due to health problems, in February of this year, she entered Black Hills Nursing Home in Rapid City.
She was a member of Edgemont Methodist (United) Church and a faithful volunteer at Edgemont Senior Citizens Center. She spent many hours in ceramics at the center and produced many beautiful pieces. Lora was committed to her family and loved spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her nieces and nephews and their families were very special to her. She will be remembered as a caring, kind and loving person.
Survivors include one son, Arthur, and his wife, Venita, Rapid City; two grandsons, Curtis, Kent, Wash., and David and his wife, Becky, Blue Springs, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kent, and Bryce and Brianne, both of Blue Springs; three sisters-in-law, Jane Coates and Edna Coates, both of Edgemont, and Alice Dahl, Paradise, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Elza; three brothers, John Coates, G. Leslie Coates and James Coates; and two sisters, Lillian Bond and Margaret Carpenter Hammer.
A memorial has been established to Edgemont Senior Citizens Center.
Elmer Pietz
HOT SPRINGS - Elmer Pietz, 60, Hot Springs, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home.
Survivors include two sons, Chuck Pietz, Billings, Mont. and Steve Pietz, Cody, Wyo; one daughter, Carmen Lura, Billings; one brother, Milton Pietz, Louistown, Mont.; two sisters, Arlene Stratton, Columbia Falls, Mont., and Ruby Thompson, Aberdeen; and three grandchildren.
Military graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis.
Constance Lucille Beaton Glover
RAPID CITY - Constance Lucille Beaton Glover, 75, Rapid City, passed away
on July 14, 2000.
She was born
in Glens Falls, N.Y., on Nov. 28, 1924, to George E. and Jessie Barber Beaton.
She is survived by her son, Mark G. Glover, Rapid City; brothers, Henry Proctor Beaton and John Hudson Beaton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; her husband, Frank G. Glover; and her brother, George E. Beaton Jr.
After living throughout the West, including Alaska and Montana, the Glovers fell in love with the Black Hills and moved here permanently. Connie was an avid outdoors-woman who loved horses, the mountains and travel. She will be missed greatly by her family and her many friends.
Connie requested no formal services, but those wishing to honor her memory can send donations to the American Cancer Society or National Geographic Society.
