PEKIN, Ill. — Ruth M. Troutman, 82, Pekin, formerly of Rapid City, died
Monday, July 17, 2000, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, William Troutman, Pekin; one son, John, Peoria, Ill.; one daughter, Marjie Haning, Springfield, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Krista Brockman officiating.
Abts Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Russell Goodsell
HILL CITY — Russell Goodsell, 79, Hill City, died
Monday, July 17, 2000, at his home.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Goodsell Jr., Gillette, Wyo., and Randall Goodsell, Hayden, Idaho; three daughters, Arnette Nash and Kristy Goodsell, both of Hill City, Bonita Goodsell, Gillette; one brother, Carrol Goodsell, Hot Springs; one sister, Grace Fischer, Wall; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Isburg-McColley's Chapels in Custer.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hill City. Burial
will be at Hill City Cemetery.
Lucille Olander
PIERRE — Lucille Olander, 88, Pierre, died
Monday, July 17, 2000, at Highmore Healthcare Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Barnes, White Bear Lake, Minn.; two sons, Ken Olander and Bill Olander, both of Pierre; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hofmeister Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at First United Methodist Church in Pierre with the Rev. Howard Grinager officiating. Burial
will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Alyce M. Himmelwright
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Alyce M. Himmelwright, 78, Bloomington, formerly of Hot Springs, S.D., died
Monday, July 17, 2000, in Bloomington.
Survivors include her husband, Theo Himmelwright, Bloomington; two daughters, Lorilee Peterson and Jeanne Jung, both of Waukesha, Wis.; one son, William Himmelwright, Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton, Wis., with burial
following at Albion Prairie Stone Church Cemetery.
John H. Starling
STURGIS — Memorial services for John H. Starling, who died
June 15, 2000, at Puget Sound Veterans Hospital in Seattle, Wash., will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis.
Harvey Harold Sander
SPEARFISH — Harvey Harold Sander, 85, died
Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Lookout Memorial Hospital.
He was born
March 25, 1915, at Detroit Lakes, Minn., to Henry and Louise Sander.
He grew up on a farm near Fairfax, Minn., and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1933.
He graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, in 1944, and Iliff School of Theology, Denver, in 1947. Dakota Wesleyan University awarded him an honorary doctor of divinity degree in 1960.
Harvey was joined in marriage to Carol Ruth Bemmels on June 14, 1944, at Fairfax.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Sander, Spearfish; three children, Dale and wife, Carol, of Spearfish, Laura Goodwin of Rifle, Colo., and Ruth and husband, Eric Grinager, of Watertown. Other survivors include a sister, Florence Grosklags, and a brother, Alfred Sander, both of Fairfax; seven granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by one daughter, Wanda; one great-grandson, Gabriel; his parents; and two brothers.
The Rev. Sander was a United Methodist minister. His appointments in SouthDakota included Tulare/ Crandon Settlement, Groton/ Andover/Bath, Western District Superintendent and Pierre First Church.
He was a Mason of the 32nd degree, received the Hixon Award for outstanding service in Kiwanis and served in numerous church and civic organizations.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Spearfish United Methodist Church, under the direction of Carlsen-Jolley Funeral Homes. The Rev. Peary Wilson will officiate.
Memorial contributions will go to the Spearfish United Methodist Church building fund.
Dorothy M. Sorenson
SPEARFISH — Dorothy M. Sorenson, 85, Spearfish, formerly of Belle Fourche, died
Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Lookout Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, LaMoine Sorenson, Deaver, Wyo., Warren Sorenson and Lowell Sorenson, both of Big River, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills and one hour before services, which will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Hans Sacrison officiating.
Burial
will be at noon at Pine Lawn Cemetery
in Rapid City.
Darlene Dee Sheldon
BLACK HAWK — Darlene Dee Sheldon, 45, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Sheldon, Black Hawk; two sons, Jason Mellon, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.; and Cody Sheldon, Black Hawk; two daughters, Dava Mellon, Rapid City, and Jayme Sheldon, Black Hawk; her mother, Janet Smith, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; her father, Lonnie Reiber, Oxford, Neb; three brothers, Alan Reiber, Jefferson, Texas, Steven Reiber, Wantoga, Okla., and Mark Reiber, Farmington, N.M.; one sister, Vickie Reiber, Truth or Consequences; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Mt. View Cemetery, with the Rev. Roy A. VanBerkum officiating.
Verna Marie McVey
SPEARFISH — Verna Marie McVey, 69, died
Monday, July 17, 2000, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born
April 25, 1931, in Ogilvie, Minn., to Philip and Emma (Peterson) Richardson. She grew up and graduated from high school at Mora, Minn., and worked at Mora Bank. In 1949, she moved to Deadwood and worked at First National Bank.
On June 17, 1956, she married
Elmer Hoff in Ogilvie, and they lived in Spearfish, where Verna worked with Dave Richards in real estate. Mr. Hoff died
June 1964.
On Sept. 3, 1967, she married
Walter William McVey, and they made their home in Spearfish. She worked in the insurance division of First National Bank, then became office manager of the insurance division of Norwest Bank in both Spearfish and Belle Fourche. She continued to make her home in Spearfish after the death
of her husband in October 1994.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Verna enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and was an excellent cook. Her cooking was enjoyed at many family gatherings.
Survivors include two sons, David McVey and his wife, Stephanie, Spearfish, and John McVey and his wife, Lynne, Pierre; one sister Voni (Mrs. Frank) Curnow, Spearfish; and two granddaughters, Marie and Caroline.
She was preceded in death
by two husbands; her parents; brother, Gene Richardson; and sister, Lorna Connell.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Fidler Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Randy Fett officiating. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery
under the direction of Fidler Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.
A memorial has been established for Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Rick V. Martin
OMAHA, Neb. — Rick V. Martin, 57, Omaha, died
Thursday, July 13, 2000, in Omaha.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Martin, Omaha; two sons, Bryan Martin, Greeley, Colo., and Robert Martin, Omaha; one daughter, Karen Martin, Fairborn, Ohio; his mother, Emma Fry, Rapid City; one granddaughter; two brothers, Todd Martin, Prescott, Ariz., and Jeff Martin, Edmond, Okla.; one sister, Judy King, Indian River, Mich.; and two stepsons, Mike Ray and Matt Ray, both of Omaha.
Services were held July 17, at Lutheran Church of the Master in Omaha.
Burial
was at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Dennis D. McCarthy
RAPID CITY — Dennis D. McCarthy, 69, Rapid City, died
Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Dennis was born
Oct. 30, 1930, in International Falls, Minn., to Edward E. ‘Mac' and Genevive ‘Jean' (Duma) McCarthy. He came to Rapid City in 1937 and was a graduate of Rapid City High School in 1949. He was married
to Catherine Mayer on Oct. 14, 1950. Dennis enlisted in the National Guard in 1951 and retired at the rank of Sergeant Major in 1990. He will be remembered for his love of model airplanes and motorcycling.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine McCarthy, Rapid City; two daughters, Debbie Dahl, Rapid City, and Lori Bickford, Alliance, Neb.; two sisters; Joanne Marquardt and Kathy McCarthy, both of Rapid City; a brother, Jack McCarthy, Scottsbluff, Neb.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim-Catron Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding. Burial
will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills.
Brian Paul Snyder Jr.
BAMBERG, Germany — Brian Paul Snyder Jr., newborn
infant, died
Wednesday, July 5, 2000, in Erlangen, Germany.
Survivors include his parents, Brian Paul Snyder and Joy Noel Reede Snyder of Bamberg; maternal grandparents, Johnny and Teresa Reede of Rapid City; and paternal grandmother, Julie Snyder of Rapid City.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 22 at Mt. View Cemetery
in Rapid City, with the Rev. Keith McCraw officiating. A procession will leave Osheim-Catron Funeral Home at 12:45 p.m.
