Wendell Warren Erickson
Funeral Services for Wendell Warren Erickson, 77 of Sisseton, SD formerly of Sidney, MT were held on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Peever Lutheran Church, Peever, SD with the Rev. Steve Moberg officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Chilson, John Wilson, Elmer Wren, Neil Weeks, Elroy Madsen, and Kent Nielsen. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Wendell’s Family and Friends. Organist was Mona Greseth and soloist was Adam Rudebusch. Interment was in the Peever Cemetery, Peever, SD with military rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. Visitation was held Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Cahill Funeral Chapel. There was also visitation on Thursday, one hour prior to services at the church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Wendell Warren Erickson was born on March 25, 1930 at Sioux Falls to Erling and Hazel (Quarton) Erickson. Wendell’s mother passed away when he was two years old, and he was raised by his Aunt and Uncle George and Matilda Olsen. Wendell entered the United States Army on September 1951 and served until July 1953 during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was Honorably discharged in 1959 from Army Reserves. Wendell resided in Oregon for a few years before moving to Sidney, MT where he worked for the Holly Sugar Factory until his retirement. In 2004 he moved back to South Dakota where he has been a resident of the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD. Wendell passed away on June 17, 2007 at the Tekakwitha Living Center. Wendell enjoyed dancing, watching TV and visiting with relatives and friends.
Wendell is survived by one half-brother, Mervin and Betty Erickson of Peever, SD; seven half-sisters, Janice (Elmer) Wren of South Wilmington, IL; Gayle Lotzer of Sisseton, SD; Judy (Roger) Crooks of Sisseton, SD; Sandy (Elroy) Madsen of Wilmot, SD; Susie (Neil) Weeks of Browns Valley, MN; Glenda (Randy) Rudebusch of Castlewood, SD; Carol (Kent) Nielsen of Peever, SD; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Erickson of Butte, MT; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Arden Erickson, his aunt and uncle George and Matilda Olsen, stepmother, Lillian Erickson, half-brother, Raymond Erickson, paternal grandparents, Martin and Othelia Erickson, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Quarton.
Clinton D. Isensee
Clint's sudden passing was in his sleep at home in Boise, ID, on Saturday, October 6, 2007. Services were held at Summers Funeral Home in Boise, ID, on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. . A viewing was held Wednesday, October 10, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Summers.
Clint was born in Sisseton, SD, February 16, 1931 to Lena and David Isensee. He was raised and graduated high school in Lake City, SD; following graduation he entered the army during the Korean Conflict. After his term of duty, he returned to South Dakota, attending college at Brookings and Aberdeen, SD. During the summer months he managed the family-owned Clear Lake Resort at Lake City, SD.
He was a respected business man beginning his career managing a Nevada Uranium mine. He moved with his family to Boise, ID in 1955. In Boise, Clint established himself as a successful real estate developer. His first company was Clint, Cooper, & Graham, later becoming Clint & Graham. He built Crystal Beach and Tamarack Bay Condominiums in McCall, ID.
He was a member of several service organizations including Boise Lions Club, Masons, and the original City Club of Boise. He was a member of Crane Creek Country club. Sports always played an important role in Clint's life. He served on the Idaho Boxing Commission for several years. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, hit and miss golf, and a good game of Gin Rummy with friends.
Clint is survived by his loving wife Joyce of Boise, ID; daughters Rondi Isensee and Vicki (Gary) Moyer; grandchildren Grayson, Spencer, and Anna Nicole Moyer; his special daughters Jill Christison and Jeri Lyn (Larry) Aspenson; and grandchildren Cori and Cole (B-Pa's boy). Other survivors include sisters Jackie Parrish (John) and Donna Wilgers; sister-in-law Marlene Isensee; and ex-wife Mary Nell Isensee. His many nieces and nephews were special to Clint. He was always available for his family. His friends were an important part of his life including breakfast gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lucille Isensee, Olive Cooper, and Bertha Avalos; and brothers Duane, Dwight, and Sherman Isensee.
Dorothy Carlson
Dorothy Carolyn Carlson, 81, of Watertown, SD passed away on April 25, 2008 at her home. There will be no services.
Dorothy was born on August 18, 1926 at home on Big Stone Lake to Martin and Anna (Hopp) Madsen. She grew up and attended Lake Township #6 country school. After her education she was married to Fred Carlson on February 3, 1951 in New Kirk, OK. Dorothy lived and worked in California, Kansas, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Illinois. She attended Sioux Falls Barber College, earned her degree and worked as a barber in Watertown, Milbank, and Wilmot. She retired and moved to Las Vegas, NV, in 1989. She returned to South Dakota in 2006. Dorothy loved the outdoors, she liked to fish, boat and camp. She also liked to play guitar and sing, and she liked to help people and visit.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Phillip (Austin) Carlson of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Marvin Madsen of Corona, SD, and Robert (Dean) Madsen of Wilmot, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jack (Shorty) Carlson; her parents; three brothers, Louis (Louie), Carl (Buddy) and Maurice (Muck); and four sisters, Alice Biel, Clara McKercher, Pearl Thorne and Delores Totoris. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD served the family.
Goldie C. Marks-Cloud
Goldie C. Marks-Cloud, 76, of Sisseton, SD passed away on May 1, 2008 at a Watertown hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, in Sisseton, SD. Wake services were held on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Goldie's House. Wake services were also held on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 at 7:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center in Agency Village, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Harriett Margaret Rondell
Funeral Service for Harriett Margaret Rondell, 92, of Sisseton, SD, was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with CLP Fillmore Simon, Rev. Enright Bighorn and Rev. Les Campbell officiating. Organist was Billy Kohl. The Pallbearers were Steve Rondell, Mike and James Genia, Marcus Cloud, Richard Wallenstein, and Mike Goette. Honorary Pallbearers were John Cloud III, Robert Rondell, Ron Campbell Jr., Phyllis Redday-Roberts, Dorthea Wilson, Ione Lufkins, Louella Cloud, Nina Petersen, and Mary Goette. Interment was in the Goodwill Presbyterian Cemetery, Agency Village, SD. There was a wake service on Monday, April 28, 2008 starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Tribal Community Center. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements.
Harriett Margaret Cloud was born on March 1, 1916 at Sisseton, SD, to John and Bessie (Derby) Cloud Sr. She grew up and attended school at the Wahpeton Indian School. After her education she was married to Guy Rondell. The couple lived in Dubuque, IA, where Guy was attending seminary. The couple served in churches in Hot Springs, Pine Ridge, and the Sisseton area. Harriett helped her husband in the churches and with his ministry. She liked to cook, sew, and garden. After Rev. Rondell passed away Harriett continued to live on the farm, until she entered the Tekakwitha Living Center on February 14, 2006. Harriett passed away peacefully on April 26, 2008 at the Tekakwitha Living Center.
Harriett is survived by one son, Ron and wife, Karen Rondell of Watertown, SD; two sisters, Marlene Campbell and Patsy Genia, both of Sisseton, SD; and three grandchildren. Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rev. Guy Rondell; one son, Dominic; and one brother, John Cloud II.
Mabel D. Storlie
Mabel D. Storlie, 92 of Bowman, ND died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
Funeral Services for Mabel were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Bowman Lutheran Church in Bowman, ND. Pastor Galen Strand officiated with burial following in the Bowman Cemetery. Family and Friends Services were held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Krebsbach Funeral Home Chapel.
Mabel D. Storlie was born on February 25, 1916 in Karinen, SD, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Slough) Wilson. She was raised in the Karinen area where she also received her education attending rural country schools in Harding County. As a young lady, she worked at the Fellows Café in Buffalo and herded sheep. On June 19, 1941 Mabel was united in marriage to Norman Storlie in Baker, MT. After their marriage, they worked for various ranchers in the area, and in the fall of 1948 they moved to the Stuber Ranch where they worked for 21+ years. Mabel and Norman then leased the HT Ranch for five years before moving to Sisseton, SD, where they purchased a farm and operated in the farming business for 18 years. They later moved back to Bowman, ND, and retired on a ranch ten miles west of Bowman, where they kept busy raising a few calves, working in the gardens and enjoying the great outdoors.
Mabel was a member of the Lutheran Ladies guilds in both Rhame and Sisseton. She enjoyed many things in life from working in her gardens and flowers, canning, cooking, baking cookies, spending countless hours sewing and quilting, going to rummage sales, and playing a good game of “Whist”; and she didn’t like to lose. Mabel enjoyed many things in life, but most of all, enjoyed spending her time with her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Mabel is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Valerie and LeRoy Grosz of Bowman, ND, and Jean Peterson of Bowman, ND; sons and daughter-in-law, Dean and Gail Storlie of Scranton, ND, and Dale Storlie of Colorado; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Georgia Tessness of Belle Fourche, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary (Slough) Wilson; her husband, Norman; two sons-in-law, Donnie Martian and Jim Peterson; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Martian; brothers, Myron and Eugene Wilson; and sisters, Lydia Colvell, Stelle Vance, and Emily Alverson.
Ralph L. Boyd
Ralph L. Boyd, 84, Rosholt, SD, died February 7, 2008, in a Rosholt care center.
A graveside memorial service will be Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley, MN.

Gregory F. Filipek
Gregory F. Filipek, 30 year employee of Bowe Bell and Howell, died November 13, 2010 as the result of an auto accident. He was 59.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10:30 Friday, November 19, 2010, at St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation began at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, with a Prayer Service starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD. The family was present to greet friends at the funeral home following the prayer service.
Gregory Francis Filipek was born March 14, 1951, in Huron, SD, to Frank and Deonne (Danforth) Filipek. Greg and his family lived in a number of eastern South Dakota communities. As a young boy, he attended Watertown public schools. He graduated from high school in Sisseton, SD in 1969.
On October 11, 2003, Greg was united in marriage to Brenda Baumberger at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. Warmly stated, his sons were his world - his dogs were his passion. Greg was selfless; always thinking of the needs of others before his own.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Brenda Baumberger; sons, Brian, Jason and Greg Filipek; daughter, Kayla Baumberger; two grandchildren; brothers, Daryl (Jenny) Filipek, Doug (Sigrid) Filipek; sisters, Debra (Robert) Jenkins, Barb (Doug) Johnson, Vickie (Jim) Pallensen, Brenda Johnson; his mother and step-father, Deonne Filipek and Dave Jerpseth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; brother, Brian; and both sets of grandparents.
Ralph Hopkins
Funeral Service for Ralph Nelson Hopkins, 70, of Waubay, SD was held on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim, SD with the Rev. Charles Chan, Rev. Les Campbell and Lay Reader Vernon Cloud officiating. Pianist was Billy Kohl. Pallbearers were Jeffery L. Hopkins, Wayne Hopkins, Jeff N. Hopkins, Joel Hopkins, Randy Hopkins, and Rick Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ralph’s Family, Friends and Relatives. Interment was in the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD. Military Rites were provided by the Brady-Monson American Legion Post #129 of Waubay, SD. There was a Wake Service on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Guild Hall, Enemy Swim.
Ralph was born on September 25, 1940 in Sisseton, SD to Nelson and Hazel (Owen) Hopkins. He attended Waubay High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, on October 15, 1957 and served until April 1, 1978. He served in the Special Forces in New Foundland, France, Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He received Bronze Star with V Device with two Oak Leafs, Purple Heart with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with V Device with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with V Device with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal and Overseas Ribbon. Following the service he worked at painting billboard signs. He moved to Vegas, and went to college at UNLV where he received a masters degree in engineering. He was hired by Borden Racing as an engine builder. Ralph was united in marriage to Jane Kirkoff in Feb. 1960. On February 3, 2004 he married Debra Cutshaw in Moapa Valley, NV. He went back to College and got a marine technology degree.
He worked at Echo Bay Resort on Lake Mead until his retirement. Ralph passed away on November 11, 2010 at his home in Waubay, SD.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Debra of Waubay, SD; three children, Rick Hopkins of Waubay, SD, Michelle Byrne of Las Vegas, NV and Jeff Hopkins of Copperas Cove, TX; two step children, Patrick O’Rourke of Cottonwood, AZ and Jessica O’Rourke of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren and three step grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arlan and Ambrose and one sister Bernadine.

Imogene Williams
Funeral Service for Imogene Becky Williams, “Imo” 51 of Pennington, MN was held on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Enemy Swim Cultural Center, Enemy Swim, SD with Rev. Les Campbell, Lay Reader Valerie Rondell and Mikey Peters officiated. Pianist was Billy Kohl and Drum Group was Wahpekute. Pallbearers were Thomas DeCoteau Jr., Rafeal BlueDog, Brandon Shepherd, Jordan Williams, Eugene Bissonette and DaVonte Hislaw. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Imogene’s Friends and Relatives. Interment was in the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD. There was a Wake Service on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. and an all night wake on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Enemy Swim Cultural Center, Enemy Swim, SD.
Imogene Becky Williams was born on March 26, 1959 in Sisseton, SD to Levi and Shirley (Shepherd) Williams. She grew up and attended school at Wahpeton Indian School, and Wilmot High School. She was united in marriage to Jeffrey Redearth.
She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She loved to care for her children and grandchildren. She loved going to Casinos to gamble in her spare time. She liked to cook and to read. She liked to draw and was good at anything she attempted to do. She was undefeated at Pictionary. Imogene passed away at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND on November 12, 2010, with her family at her side after a lengthy illness.
Imogene is survived by seven children, Shannon Williams of Pennington, MN, Cynthia Redearth and Jeremiah Redearth of Flandreau, SD, Kimberly Holstein and Robert Holstein of Cass Lake, MN, Cherish Holstein of Bemidji, MN, and Billie Jo Holstein of Pennington, MN; two brothers, Levi Williams Jr. of Bemidji, MN, and Troy Williams of Pennington, MN; three sisters, Barb Jens of Sisseton, SD, Roberta Smith and Lisa Williams of Pennington, MN; one half sister, Sharon King of Remer, MN and sixteen grandchildren.
Imogene was preceded in death by her father, one son, Robin “Robbie” Jeffrey Redearth Jr., one daughter, Misty Dawn Williams, one grandson, Tyler Holstein and one brother James King.

Phyllis Weinkauf
Phyllis Weinkauf, 88, New Effington, SD, died Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the Rosholt Care Center in Rosholt, SD.
Funeral services were Monday, November 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington, with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiated. Music was provided by organist Debra Bredvik and vocalists Paul and Diane Bartnick.
Burial was in the Walla Cemetery, rural New Effington. Honorary pallbearers were Phyllis’s great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Phyllis Leona Mathilda Weinkauf was born January 23, 1922, to Axel and Signe (Ostlund) Swanson in Hart Township, rural Victor, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church. She attended Hart #4 for two years. Then the family moved just south of New Effington, where she finished her schooling and graduated from New Effington High School in 1940. After finishing school, Phyllis worked for Wall’s Grocery in New Effington and the Bank of New Effington until her marriage.
On April 8, 1944, Phyllis married Oswald Weinkauf at Walla Lutheran Church on her parents’ 23rd wedding anniversary. She became a homemaker and they farmed north of New Effington where they raised their two children, Susanne and Merle.
Phyllis enjoyed raising chickens, having eggs, cats and dogs. She liked to cook and bake and was known for her Swedish Braid Coffeecake. Oswald and Phyllis were known to attend all of the NEHS basketball games and local softball games. They also enjoyed watching the Twins. In 1984, they retired and moved into New Effington.
Phyllis was active in the Walla Ladies Aid serving in local and district offices and quilting in her later years. She was a Cub Scout den mother, member and officer in the New Effington Senior Citizens, Farmer’s Union youth leader, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Lien Sprouts Homemaker’s Club. She was on the planning committee for the 50th Anniversary of the town of New Effington and served on the history book committee for the Diamond Jubilee.
Oswald passed away August 19, 2004. In February of 2005, Phyllis became a resident of Greenleaf Assisted Living in Sisseton, SD, and in 2007 made her home at the Rosholt Care Center.
Phyllis is survived by her two children, Susanne (Franklin) Navratil of New Effington, SD, and Merle Weinkauf of Spokane, WA; seven grandchildren, Jodeen (Neal) Kutter of Hankinson, ND, Wade (Gwen) Navratil of Excelsior, MN, Kirk (Dawn) Navratil of New Effington, SD, Denise Weinkauf of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael Weinkauf of Minneapolis, MN, and Brandi Weinkauf and Jacqueline Weinkauf of Spokane, WA; ten great-grandchildren, Daniel, Brianna, and Tanner Kutter, Adam Spah, Samantha and Zachery Navratil, Kya and Morgan Navratil, and Kylee and Haleigh Weinkauf; two sisters, Eleanor (Bob) Seurynck of Mesa, AZ, and Dolores (Carl) Johnson of Cottonwood, AZ; and a brother, Bruce Swanson of Rochester, MN.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Richard D. Randall Sr.
Chief Petty Officer Richard D. Randall Sr., retired, of Carson City, NV, left us on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the age of 89. He was born in Ortonville, MN, on February 27, 1921 to Malcolm and Catherine Randall.
He joined the Navy as a young man and served his country for over 30 years, during which time he received many medals. He was most proud that he served in one war and two conflicts: WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
He married Lorraine (Suzy) Koski on November 26, 1943 and they had three sons: Richard Jr., Timothy and Bryan (Scott). They lived many years in San Diego, CA, where Richard worked for San Diego Trust and Savings Bank. In 1986 they moved at Carson City, NV. After a long battle with health problems Suzy passed away on December 6, 1988, after 45 years of marriage. In 1992 Richard met Margie Barron and were married in 1993.
He is survived by his wife Margie; sons, Richard Jr., Timothy and Bryan (Kim); three step-children, David, John and Kathryn. He also leaved behind his four loving sisters, Lucille Clark, Marguerite (Burton) Plant, Joyce Randall and Ardeth Simon; and numerous nephews and nieces. Not to be forgotten are his seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. They carry his legacy forward. We all loved him and will miss him forever.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Fitz Henry Chapel of Faith. Interment with military honors followed at the Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Leslie Prescott
Leslie Wayne Prescott, age 67, of the Lower Sioux Community made his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls, MN. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church, Lower Sioux Community. Visitation was Thursday 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continued Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the church hall. Interment was in St. Cornelia’s Cemetery.
Leslie Wayne Prescott was born September 19, 1943 in Pipestone, MN to Albert and Evelyn (Goodthunder) Prescott. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Cornelia’s Episcopal Church. Leslie attended school at Bishop Whipple Mission and later Morton High School. He was united in marriage to Lana Larsen in 1964. Together they had two sons, Todd and Tim Prescott. Leslie had a variety of jobs in the area including working for Redwood County Highway Department and Jackpot Junction. In 1979, he met Brenda Gehrke. They were married July 30, 1999 in South Dakota. Together they had two sons, Robert in 1981 and Randal in 1982. Leslie served as Lower Sioux Tribal Council Member for a number of years. He enjoyed taking care of his horses, tinkering on cars and equipment, mowing his lawn, going for car and 4-wheeler rides, and country music. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandkids. Leslie had a great sense of humor and enjoyed practical jokes.
Leslie is survived by his wife Brenda, sons Robert (Jessica Kosel) Prescott of the Lower Sioux and Randal of Morton, MN; stepsons Chad (Angie) Gehrke and Chris (Michelle) Gehrke, all of Redwood Falls, MN; grandchildren: David, Mary, Dillon, Bailey, Aarik, Tucker, Rozlyn, Evelyn, Adrian, Lucian and Fenton; great grandchildren: David, Lennon, and Isaac “Duza”; siblings: Jerome (Carol) of the Lower Sioux, Gary (Diane) of Redwood Falls, MN, Deb (Fr.
