Belle Vibert, 100
Anaconda "Belle" R. Vibert, 100, formerly of Anaconda died
Wednesday in Saukville, Wis.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The First Presbyterian Church of Anaconda with Rev. Teresa Peterson conducting. Services are under the care of KT Riddle Funeral Homes, Anaconda Chapel.
Vibert was born
more than a century ago on March 12, 1902, the daughter of Frank & Catherine (Campbell) Welden in Quebec, Canada. During World War I, Belle met her husband to be. His name was Herman Vibert. ``Herm'', as he was known, and Belle married
in 1924. At one time, Herm opened a Studebaker garage in Anaconda. He also worked for the Anaconda Copper Company in the research department. Herm died
in 1985.
She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Ungaretti of Grafton, Wis.; son and daughter-in-law Duane and Phyllis Vibert of Upland, Calif.; grandchildren Marian ``Sally'' Ungaretti Soriano, Becky Vibert Hecock, Nancy Ungaretti Shultz; great-grandchildren Craig and Cory Hecock, Alice and Alan Soriano and Jackie Shultz. Memorials may be given in Belle's name to The First Presbyterian Church of Anaconda, 319 Main, Anaconda 59711, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Teresa Bailey, 96
Graveside services for Teresa Bailey will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Cross Cemetery, where her cremains will be buried next to her husband, Myles C. Bailey.
A reception will follow at 3 p.m. at the Copper King Hotel and Convention Center.
Mrs. Bailey died
Jan. 8 in Butte.
Alexsander Wnuczek, 89
Alexsander Wnuczek died
of natural causes on Saturday in Butte, surrounded by his family.
He was born
in Poland on Dec. 12, 1912. He received his education in Poland and served in the Polish cavalry.
Alexsander brought his family to the United States in 1952 and went to work for the Anaconda Company. He worked for the Anaconda Company from 1952 until his retirement in 1977.
He was preceded in death
by a daughter, Krystyna Wnuczek, in 1951.
Alexsander is survived by his wife of 56 years, Stanislawa Wnuczek; daughters and son-in-law Rosemary and Doug Taylor of Butte, and Irene Sotelo of Great Falls; and granddaughters Kristie Sotelo of Los Angels, Calif., and Jessica Taylor of Butte.
Relatives and friends may call Tuesday after 1:30 p.m. at the chapel of Duggan Dolan Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are requested to Highlands Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
Anita Field, 67
In memoriam
Anita Clare (Borzick) Field died
Sept. 20 at home in Salem, Ore., after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born
-- along with her twin sister, Rita -- on Aug. 6, 1933, in Butte to James and Marie Borzick. They graduated from Anaconda High in 1951.
Anita married
David Field in 1953, and their first home was in Anaconda. They later moved to Anita's beloved Columbia Gardens for many years. They moved in 1972 to Salem, Ore., where she worked as a bookkeeper for the YWCA until her retirement. In retirement, she helped with her grandchildren, whom she adored, excelling in giving them hugs. She and Dave enjoyed camping, traveling, salmon fishing in Alaska and visiting their many friends and relatives.
Survivors include husband, Dave; daughters, Patricia Reed and Rebecca (Ron) Wilson; sons, Ben, Jim (Kathy) and Tom (Deanna) Field; nine grandchildren; sisters, Rita Miner, Ginger Lanning; brothers, William Borzick, Opportunity, and Gene Deakin; aunt, Elizabeth Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Floy (Field) Collins, Butte; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave and their children were tender, loving and attentive through this most difficult time. Their families are proud of them and Anita.

Ornelda Postma, 82
In memoriam
Ornelda A. Gifford Postma died
Tuesday at her home in Hurricane, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. She had battled cancer.
Ornelda was born
Nov. 19, 1917, in Woodville, Idaho, to Lilly May (Chaffin) and Henry Elmer Gifford. She spent her childhood working various family farms. Often it was she and her sisters' responsibility to keep the family's 50 acres cultivated.
After the death
of her mother, Ornelda, at 14, spent the next seven years helping her older siblings care for their growing families.
Ornelda married
Abraham John Postma May 8, 1939, in Osgood, Idaho. They were the proud parents of nine children. While Abrahan worked in the Butte mines, she was busy rearing their children and making a home. In 1965, Ornelda and Abraham moved to Hurricane, where she had lived since. Her husband died
in 1983.
In later years, she took great pride in making certain each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren received one of her handmade quilts and crochet-covered hangers. She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various positions, including ward librarian for over 10 years. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Nedra Taylor, Logan, and Ann Hastie, Walkerville; sons, Nelton (Georgene) Postma, Tim (June) Postma, Butte, Randy Postma, Logandale, Nev., Clyde (Jo) Postma, Bloomington Hills, Utah, Henry (Raelene) Postma, Mark (Kim) Postma of Hurricane; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death
by a son, Roger, sons-in-law, George Hastie and Alan Taylor, and grandson, John Hastie.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday in the Hurricane West LDS Stake Center. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Spilsbury and Beard Mortuary, in Hurricane; and 10 a.m. Friday at the Stake Center. Burial: Hurricane City Cemetery.
Dean Brown
CASCADE (AP) -- Dean Brown, a Montana newspaperman whose 38-year career included work at Belt, Stanford, Whitehall, Boulder and Dillon, has died
at 68.
Brown died
of a heart attack Wednesday at the Cascade housing complex where he worked.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1954, he began a printing apprenticeship in Hettinger, N.D. Brown moved to Dillon in 1961, working first at the Dillon Examiner and later at the Dillon Tribune-Examiner.
He left newspaper and printing work in 1970 to become an insurance agent in Montana and Idaho.
Brown and his family bought the Boulder Monitor in 1972. Subsequent acquisitions included Whitehall's Jefferson Valley News, the Judith Basin Press at Stanford, the Belt Valley Times and the Cascade Courier.
Brown retired from the newspaper business in 1992.
A funeral is planned Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cascade. O'Connor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Janell; daughters Cindy Wooton of Renton, Wash., Cathy Easterling of Stanton, N.D., Sandra Bruce of Ulysses, Kan., and Patricia Haagenson of Great Falls; and sons Mike Brown and Tom Brown of Butte, Rob Brown of Strawberry Plains, Tenn., and Rick Brown of Lewiston, Idaho. A daughter, Mary Lynn ``Dolly'' Okuly, died
in 1995.
Melvin Hamilton, 79
In memoriam
THREE FORKS -- Melvin Andrew Hamilton Sr. of Three Forks died
Thursday at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.
He was born
in Big Timber on Feb. 6, 1921, to Sanford and Dollie Marie Ford Hamilton.
He was the oldest of five children and moved to Belgrade at an early age where he attended school. He worked on area ranches before joining the service.
After discharge, he moved to Three Forks and married
Joyce Reynolds in Bozeman on Aug. 28, 1942. They owned and operated Hamilton Grocery for 24 years. He served as volunteer fire chief and mayor and helped organize the first Three Forks rodeo. They later moved to Helena and Las Vegas before returning to Three Forks.
He was preceded in death
by his wife in 1996.
He is survived by daughters, Sandra Wise of Las Vegas, Deanna Page of Cedar City, Utah, Marcia Thomas of Oxnard, Calif.; son, Melvin Hamilton Jr. of Three Forks; brother, Dennis Hamilton of Three Forks; and sisters, Betty Korber of Billings and Helena Aldrich of Townsend; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday in the K&L Mortuary Chapel in Three Forks. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery
in Three Forks.
Mary Laughlin, 75
In memoriam
ANACONDA -- Mary Katherine Laughlin of 718 E. Park St. in Anaconda died
Thursday afternoon.
She was born
Jan. 1, 1925, in Anaconda to Daniel and Katherine (Kenny) McKavanaugh. She graduated as salutatorian from Anaconda High in 1942. She moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked in the Pentagon as a secretary for Gen. Curtis LeMay in Gen. Hap Arnold's office in the Army Air Corps. After the war she returned to Anaconda and worked for the Anaconda Co. while attending Butte Business College. She and Henry Laughlin were married
on Sept. 2, 1950, in Anaconda after which she stayed home and reared their family.
She belonged to Anaconda Catholic Community, Legion of Mary and Life in the Spirit. When her children were in school she enjoyed attending all their athletic events. She liked swimming, riding bicycle, and picnics and barbecues with her family. She was a volunteer for Head Start for many years and enjoyed singing in choir. She was most proud that all seven of her children graduated from college.
Her parents, husband Henry, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Pat Everett of Eugene, Ore., Abby Laughlin of Portland, Ore., Katy and Michael Derzay of Bozeman; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Siddona Laughlin, Tony and Vicki Laughlin, Dan and Pat Laughlin, all of Anaconda, Fran Laughlin of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Dan, Pat, Bart and Lindsay Laughlin, Brian and Tim Everett, and Darby, Mick and Dana Derzay; sister, Dorothy Hanson of Butte; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call to pay their respects in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home from 4 to 6:15 p.m. Sunday and from 6:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church. The parish vigil service follows at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Church with burial

Norman Stahlecker, 72
In memoriam
Norman Dean Stahlecker died
Thursday morning in a local nursing home.
He was born
in Coffee Creek on Jan. 8, 1928, to Otto and Ella (Grimmert) Stahlecker and was reared in the Harlowton area where he worked on several area ranches.
In 1953 he married
the former Helen Barnes and the couple had five children. In 1966 the family moved to Butte where Norman worked in highway construction. His last job was working as a teacher assistant for the special education department with Butte School District #1. He always said that this was the most enjoyable and best job he ever had.
Norman and Helen divorced
in 1974 and in 1975 he met Helen Segulia. They lived as husband and wife until her death
in 1990.
Mr. Stahlecker is survived by sons, Dumond Stahlecker of Lemitar, N.M., Lance Stahlecker of Grants, N.M., Curtis Stahlecker of Helena and Cole Stahlecker of Coalville, Utah; daughter, Holly Wells of Mosier, Ore.; six grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin and Mary Stahlecker of Milnor, N.D.; sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and Domingo Martirena of Buffalo, Wyo.; good friends, Mike and Tina Butori of Butte.
In accordance with his requests, Mr. Stahlecker's remains have been cremated in Butte and no services are planned at this time.

Thomas Popovich, 79
In memoriam
Thomas M. Popovich died
Monday in a local nursing home.
He was born
in Butte on Feb. 20, 1921, the son of Mitar and Jovanka (Poznanovich) Popovich. He attended the Grant Elementary School and graduated from Butte High.
Following graduation, Tom went to work for Conoco and later served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to Butte and went back to work for Conoco. In 1955, Conoco transferred him to Denver. On April 5, 1958, he married
June Nugent Driscoll in Denver. In 1966, he was transferred to Ponca City, Okla., and retired in 1980. Tom returned to Butte in 2000 to be with his daughter.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge in Ponca City and served as Tiler of the lodge for 25 years. He also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church.
Tom is preceded in death
by his parents; brother, Daniel M. Popovich; sister, Danica Vucasovich; brother-in-law, Voin Vucasovich; sisters-in-law, Hester Popovich and Virginia Weathers; and granddaughter, Christine Marie Dennehy.
Survivors include his wife, June Popovich; daughter, Patricia Miller of Butte; son, Mark Driscoll of Ponca City; grandchildren, Mark and Kim Dennehy of Kalispell, Trisha and Mark Venner of Billings; great-grandchildren, Zack and McKayle Dennehy; brother, Michael Popovich; nieces, Georgiana Gavrilovich and Toni Ueland; nephews, Donald Vucasovich and Michael Popovich; aunt, Merle Poznanovich; cousins, Jerry and Don Poznanovich, Gene and Milt Popovich and Zorka Milanovich; and godchildren, Michael Sorich and Eileen LaBreche.
Relatives and friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church for visitation, followed by prayer services at 7 p.m. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial: Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials: Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church.
Freda Schmitt, 79
In memoriam
THREE FORKS -- Freda Z. Schmitt of Three Forks died
Wednesday in a Helena hospital as the result of an automobile accident.
She was born
Sept. 26, 1921, to the late Herman Earl and Hattie Onno (White) Thompson, at the family ranch in Milligan Canyon. Freda was reared in Milligan Canyon near Cardwell and attended area schools. She married
Floyd Schmitt Oct. 6, 1940, in Livingston; he died
in 1993. Together they owned several ranches and she lived on their ranch near Three Forks until her death.
She belonged to Rebekah Lodge #74. She enjoyed pinochle with her friends and a good morning walk at her ranch and loved to travel.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene (Jim) Bouley, Helena, Madeline (Doug) Engelking, Helena, Irene (Tim) Steffen, Vandalia, Mich.; sons and daughters-in-law, Leo (Pat) of Hudson, Iowa, Dewey (Sandra) of Three Forks, Leonard (Linda), Corvallis, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Raffety, Willow Creek, Velma Knowles, Three Forks.
Her daughter Frances Schmitt, brother Keith Thompson, sisters Tamsy Davis and Eula Hersey also preceded Freda in death.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday in K&L Mortuary in Three Forks with the Revs. Lyle Hamilton and John Cathcart officiating. Interment: Mount Green Cemetery

James Maloney, 84
James P. `` Snub'' Maloney died
Tuesday.
He was born
on Jan. 7, 1916, to William and Anne Maloney. He attended St. Mary's grade school and Boys Central High School. He played football for Central and also for the Independent League in Butte. He served for 38 months in the European Theatre of Operations with the Army.
He worked for the Anaconda Co., Butte City Bus Lines and Mountain Bell Telephone Co.
Snub was an ardent bowler and enjoyed fishing and all sports.
He married
Mary Lasky and later divorced. He married
Katherine Johnson in 1950.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Chuck Larsen of Whitehall; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Peggy Maloney and Pat and Paulette Maloney, Butte; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Mullaney, Butte; brother and sister-in-law, Neil and Helen Maloney, Butte; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ellenor and Dan Vaughan of California; sister-in-law, Lily Artinger of Texas; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his mother and father; brothers, William, Bernard and Christian Brother John; and brother-in-law, Max Artinger; sisters-in-law, Mary and Alma Maloney, Thelma Crnich; brother-in-law, John Johnson.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Church for visitation, followed by Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow the Mass.

Carol Paull, 57
ANACONDA -- Carol B. Paull of Galen Road died
Tuesday morning in Community Hospital.
She was born
Nov. 13, 1942, in Butte, to Melvin and Ruth (Kennedy) Batten. She attended Butte schools, graduating from Butte High. She received licensed practical nurses' training at Montana State Hospital.
She and Fred Lester were married
in 1961. He preceded her in death. She and Donald Paull were married
in 1975. She was a licensed practical nurse at Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
She belonged to the Avon Grange, F.C.E. Woman's Club, Licensed Practical Nurses' Union, and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed ceramics, taking drives, and her dog, Tyrone, and cats, Cougar and Licorice. She was preceded in death
by her parents and her husband, Donald, in 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheri Paull, and her fiance, Chris Crumley of Anaconda; sister, Sharon Batten of Butte; aunt, Dorothy Miller of Butte; and several aunts and uncles in Butte.
No wake or visitation are planned in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with burial
in New Hill Cemetery.
